They become classics by time. There's no possible way to make a car a classic by design.
That's probably going to be 10X harder but I'd also like to see a couple of 'retroed' modern cars. Don't think I've seen that before!

One think with all your redesigns is that they all look like they were built a decade ago and then modernised by adding LEDs and bigger wheels

Well yeah, he has specifically stated multiple times on his videos that the way he modernize cars is by keeping their original shape while bringing some modern elements and changing some minor proportions to make it look more modern compared to its stock appearance. He didn't specifically stated on what era the car would have been built. I wouldn’t have gotten rid of the rear air intake at the back of the side quarter window. That intake is one thing that differentiated the F40’s greenhouse design from the 308/328. It’s also an important intake for the engine.
Should have removed the "lines" on the grille, i think it'd look better

The lines on the grille reminds me of how Ferrari's looked in the early to mid 2000s, like the 599 or something.
vertical grille lines are an outdated looking graphic in modern performance cars, mesh grilles are the way to go
Overall pretty dissapointed with the front bumper and how lazily it was integrated

Those industrial vents you mentioned are called NACA Ducts. They are used in aircraft and race car applications. Nice work though.
If the F40 was tough for you, try updating a Lamborghini Muira.

It looks like it was made in the mid 2000s. If you gave it more modern headlight with LEDS and daytime running lights it would look more like a late 2010s car

Out of all of this, I'm glad you changed the headlights. They always looked so depressed as they drooped off to the sides like they'd melted.

It’s always so striking to me when the before and after are shown just how much the often subtle changes stack to make an enormous difference to the end result. Also you 100% hit your goal to make a design that Ferrari could have made. Even being a car guy (with an F40 poster on my wall since I was a kid) if I just saw this without context I would go check google for news about an F40 tribute.
I really like the redesign but I feel the new details further accentuate the slightly broken look of everything past the front windshield, the car looks kinda bent to me. That's really just the nature of the f40 due to the fact that the surrounding black trim line isn't straight. Taking a look at an f50 will show a nicely straight line, I think the redesign would do well to have the crooked line corrected :)
I've asked plenty times, but please redesign the 1991-93 Mitsubishi 3000GT! Even though they were released at the same time, probably even designed at the same time in the 80s too, the 3000GT is slightly similar to the f40, the design elements like the nose and side air inlets look alike. Both cars were no holds barred extreme as well, the f40 was an extreme thrill, and the VR4 was extremely comfortable and full of tech. I love my 93 VR4!

I know what you mean, since they're usually closed, but they look really nice opened up, I still really like the smooth look of the frunk without the pop ups.

The Front of the modernized F40 reminds me of Ferrari Maranello.
The F40 is one of the most surprising designs for me as I was never a fan of it until I saw one in person. I always thought it was too boxy and plain from photos. However, the front is a work of art when seen in the flesh, so to speak. Subtly curved and beautifully proportioned with a very charming “face” that belies it’s raw power and uncompromising engineering.
In contrast the 360 Modena looks wonderful in photos, yet the nose line is too high from the ground in person, making the front look too bulky.
Can you do a 73-86 chevy squarebody to modern, looking at buying one and thought it would be awesome

An F40 with just removing pop-ups looks like if a person doesnt have eyebrows, i like how you got rid of the pop-ups and stil made a phenomenal job. Great Work!

You can’t remove the NACA ducts so easily. They’re too much a distinctive aspect for this car.

I loved the rear view redesign, and honestly didn't know if it would translate well to redo the front end of such a classic, well recognized vehicle. Sketch Monkey comes in clutch! Amazing job!

the headlights on the redesign almost look like Acura NSX headlights
Shame about the removed air intake in the rear quarter window. Definitely an important f40 feature which you ended up removing. It would have played so well together with the intake in the side panel.

Started out thinking this was going to be easily your worst redesign yet, then towards the end I realized this is actually possibly your best redesign yet. Looks fantastic. So much better than what you did with the rear. Only nit picks are the rear side outlet vents should've been redone since that style vent is very outdated, and the headlights definitely need more than one bulb in the headlight unit, should have a highand low beam and turn signals.
Headlights remind me of a catfish Camaro, not a bad thing, great redesign!
That looks so much worse it's shocking. It looks like a Japanese tuner car where they've bolted on pieces that were never in the original design. You've made it taller and thinner (as opposed to low and wide like a real sportscar.)
You've tightened up the fillets (in an attempt to modernize the car) but completely lost sight of the fact that it made the car more blocky, tall, lanky and ungainly.
You increased the rim size because everyone else does and lost sight of the fact that that too makes the car seem taller and thinner. You made the rear wing blocky, like an aftermarket piece instead of being organic. How on Earth could you make the rear wing so detached in terms of congruence to the rest of the car and ugly at the same time without realizing what you were doing? Even the Ancient Greeks knew how to deal with vertical lines in orders.
For some reason you gave the hypercar a GT type front grill (to show it's a luxury tourer?) and with chrome slits while there is no chrome anywhere else on the car. You also continued to destroy the front by (again) making the car look taller (a big nono for a sportscar) by the triangles pointing up.
The 2 inlets on the door are also contra balanced which again raises the perceived height of the car. Again you try to make a hypercar taller and narrower for some reason.
It's like you took each design element in the original and figured out how you could change it without taking into account how they relate to each other.
I'd seriously look up the term golden ratio in an encyclopedia. This design is about everything you can do wrong in terms of car design. You have absolutely no idea what you are doing.
Besides the grille I think it looks great. I'm more of a 288 GTO guy but surely a nice redesign. As a teenager I loved making foto's of sportscars and when I shot a nice Ferrari in Monaco (on holiday of course) the owner invited me into his garage where more than 10 Ferrari's where stored, among them a 288 GTO. I'll never forget that day!

insta-sub! A friend follows you and shared this vid with me cause I started a channel in March and he's helping me develop. Cars have never been my thing. I appreciate them and that's all. Art, on the contrary, it's where my soul is. And your suggestion of not overthink and just start is pretty damn powerful. I loved your editing; by the time you put music I was already deep into the redesign and wanting to see the end of it, but still, received a lot of info about the car and your thought process. Really helpful and relatable to what I'm doing. I loved the end result, it definitely does justice (in my not knowledgeable opinion lol) to both the classic looks and what I, as a consumer and someone who enjoys looking at cars from time to time, would expect of a modern car. Bravo Marouane, job well done! Great line flow, modern but simple enough that the original F40 shines through, looks great! And I really agree with your decision to remove the pop-ups but keep the same wheels. Only thing I would have done is remove the (now secondary) badge on the hood.

The pop up headlights on the F40 are something a lot of people have never seen. There’s not a lot of pictures or videos that show the F40 with it’s headlights up and on. The same can be said for the Lamborghini Countach and early Diablo.

Hey sketch, I've just watched both of the F40 videos and I've decided to drop my 2 cents... not because the designs were bad (far from it!) but because I think some important F40 traits weren't used.
1) the taillights. you've put 2 red circles there. The original is one red, one ambar. I would make the outer one ambar too, to keep the reference
2) the exhaust. It's a very iconic triple exhaust tip, right in the middle... it could be used in a new language, with 2 smaller tips and one bigger,all in the middle of the rear diffuser.
3) the wheels: I think they are perfect for it too, so I would keep them, but make them concave (specially the rear one), and a bit shallower. I would say also make the 5 point "star" in the middle a little bit thinner
loved that you kept the wing boxy and the fenders on the side, but I think just a bit of roundness on the "hips" there might make the rear talk with the front without losing identity.
As you said you're not that happy with the rear, when/if you try again, I would love to see you give these suggestions a try.
anyway, congratulations on the channel, it's absolutely awesome
I love the new design but I wish you lifted the headlights higher on the hood so it filled the space and lifted the bumper a little, it would help modernize the wedge shape from the 80’s

Absolutely stunning, although I think you could've made it a tiny bit less slab-sided. Perhaps made the bodylines curve in towards the black line in the middle?
But definitely stunning, beyond my abilities and far more bold than any redesign I'd make even if I did have your skills.
I'm going to make my regular request, though: please either do the mkII Saab 900 or 9000, or better yet: the 2002 Chevrolet Camaro. I just want to imagine a modern take on those sleek, aerodynamic looking designs of the 90's.
