Thank u for explaining this process...it was really helpful👍 Can you elaborate more about the process a vendor goes through? I would really appreciate it ❤
Heyy Christina didi, an fellow fashion aspirant on this end, If you don't mind can you make videos - 1. On how a fashion designer in the industry goes via his/her research, the process, the sites where you get analytics.. how one decides colours of range? do they do it based on their gut feeling and trend or is it mostly relied on trends? so that we will develop the right process and mindset from our college days :)) 2. The difference between working as a fashion designer start-up owner vs a fashion designer working in brands like Myntra etc vs freelancing as fashion designer and what is it actually like ? Also, can you recommend any certified Excel courses for fashion designers? And one more doubt, that if so much is done, then do companies ensure work-life balance of the employees? Or is it just work, work, work?
Hey Swarangi! Great suggestions, I’ll add them to my list. Thank you! On 1, have you watched this video yet? th-cam.com/video/rmogEquRQwY/w-d-xo.html I cover a few of your questions here. On 2, unfortunately I’ve mostly worked corporate jobs, (I freelanced for a very short amount of time but I personally found it to be dull/unsuccessful with too unsteady a paycheck and too many unprofessional clients) so I probably am not the best person to make a video on this. On the last bit, Microsoft has official excel certificate courses that you can take. I’ve done them myself and found them very useful! And on work life balance, fashion design is no easy career to be sure, that’s especially so in India. Only the top companies try to ensure that workloads don’t go over the top and that you work Monday to Friday (and even then it can get to be too much), but a lot of the smaller companies require you to work Saturday too, giving you zero work life balance. My advice would be to just aim for the big companies like Myntra. I can only comment on corporate life and it’s as stressful/hectic as any other corporate job to be honest. Hoping that answers your questions!
Hi Christina, just found your channel while struggling to find a channel which recommends some GOOD tips if you don’t get into NIFT. So far, yours is the gem. So,first of THANK YOU for being a ray of sunshine because GOD have I been on edge since my Nift result came out and I didn’t get in. But, and I know you might not know this but still it’s worth a shot so, I gotta ask, I have blocked my seat in UID , NCR campus. So far, I’ve only heard good reviews and while I did get into Pearl, South Delhi campus I just wanna say ki absolutely everyone I’ve come in contact with have only told someone bad about it. So I left it. Now, what I wanna ask is, if I do absolutely great in UID, are there chances that I could get into colleges like FIT, New York for masters. And that too just after my graduation. It would be wonderful if you’d reply.
Hello Christina! Thank you so much for such an informative video))) I have a question, do fashion designers have to go to the office every day and for every meeting with colleagues, vendors, and etc? What do you think about how much a fashion designer job can be done online from anywhere in the world through a laptop?
Hello! You’re very welcome! So in my experience with corporate companies across countries, what I have seen is that we cannot work completely online. We need to be in the office at least 3 days a week. Our job involves too many collaborative, in person tasks like fit sessions, supplier meetings, picking and feeling out fabrics and colors and prints and trims, concept and range presentations too often involve handing out physical references to the team, etc. Most of our job is actually done in the office and due to too many tactile tasks involved, I unfortunately do not see us working completely from home. Hope that answers your question!
Hello Christina! Writing from Bangladesh, I want to pursue my further studies on Fashion Designing, maybe Master's or PG Diploma. Your videos are so helpful. So,I've some queries, and I want to contact with you separately. How may I go for it?
Hii Christina, you are doing great job, your vedios are really very helpful for designers. Can you please make a detailed vedio on this practically step by step.
Hiii... A really great video ❤ Also, can you tell that the range board you show to the company includes outfits on croquis or do you only show the flat sketches
So glad you like it! 💕 On your query, it depends on the company really. Some companies need the croquis, others just the flat sketches. Hope that helps!
Hi christina!!!! I totally admire youuuu! You’re a source of inspiration! 💗 also I’ve to ask one thing that I’m a recent graduate student and I’ve been working as a merchandiser in an apparel industry. Is it a good start in a fashion design career?
Hey Christina! I have some doubts, would be great if u clarify.... The whole process that you talked about, is solely carried out by you or there are fellow fashion designers like you, who accompanies you, in various stages like design explorations, fit sessions etc.? IT would be great if u cud show a concept ppt that u created perhaps from a previous season to have a better idea since 10 to 20 pages feels a lot for a concept, as a student Or fairly a new employee, I've never creted such a lengthy concept.
Hey Neha! You have designers helping along the way in some areas. The more senior you are, the more you handle alone. Regarding the concept length, for confidentiality reasons, sharing a previous concept won’t be possible. But let’s put it this way, if you’re designing for a category that requires about 100 design options, the concept needs to be detailed enough to describe the multiple ideas you’re gonna put into your range. If you’re designing about 25 options your concept can be like 5 pages. Keep in mind, different companies work differently though but this is the usual case.
Hi Aditi! There isn't a set minimum requirement as such. Different companies have different design requirements. Also it greatly depends on your position in the company as well i.e. senior designers design more than the junior designers. Hoping that helps!
