@@pressureworks Number 45 on the billboard dance club song charts is not even the top 40 chart. I wouldn't consider this to be a "hit". The radio stations won't even play this song unless you're on a New Wave station.
Great hearing the Peel sessions on bands I never knew did them or missed them on the radio. I still get a sting of sadness at hearing John Peels voice and miss his presence and people like him who were part of my music culture and growing up period who championed groups and gave them a chance and who cared about music.
Saw them at the ICA brilliant gig got it on video, like you I was gutted when they got destroyed by there label, oh we love your music and look but we need to change your look and music mad
Saw them at the Golden Bear in Huntington Beach, CA in the early 80's. One of the most memorable shows I've ever seen. So many saying sad they went Pop. We never called them Pop, we called them New Wave. New Wave was alternative to Pop. Debbie Gibson was Pop. New Wave is what made them so popular. They are the epitome of New Wave and 80's music which is why I love them so much.
All of them wearing just the one T-shirt? No? Which one then? I bet it wasn't Mark E Smith, not really his thing I would have thought. - Oh no, wait, you were the one wearing the T-shirt. Okay, not so newsworthy, but it's just as well Mr Grumpy didn't see it.
"What does terrific mean, does it mean anything?" Not my words but those of the late, forever great Mr John Peel.R.I.P good sir *edit, accidental extra E in peel
I first saw altered images. Video see those eyes when I saw that video offline who in the heck is this but I admired Her Style full of bubbly happiness just like the dude said Sadly underrated band if they would have stayed. Together no telling how far they would have went. I tell you what they was number one in my book. Rock on altered images
Wow, I’d forgotten just how good that first Peel Session was and so nice to hear Uncle John introducing the tracks. Dead Pop Stars is such a thrilling track, Claire’s voice is amazing. I am suddenly 16 again, to quote the Buzzcocks.
this is fookin brilliant, im now a fan wot a pity clare won't do this at butlins. she should go back to her roots an drop the pop stuff. I d pay to hear this music. Common Clare get it together.....Love an respect.....
Used to go and see many bands in the eighties, can remember catching them at the end the ica supporting spizz energy, one song amazing, just a shame they got ruined by there label
I've eventually realised that creating really good, simple pop music is very difficult to do. Thing I've always liked about AA is there is always a lot going on musically in their poppy songs - don't talk to me about love a great example.
Agreed, their poppy stuff was brilliant too. They might have been seen as "Sellouts" at the time but listening to it back now, it beats the shite out of the stuff in the charts today. I love their more commercial stuff but in a completely different way to their punky/post punk stuff.
Clare was every teenage boy's dream. I would have just turned 11 when they did this and didn't realise till now how feminine she was.. Punk music was never going to be a part of the 80's scene. Sorry but it was absolutely awful sound. But punks, going into pop, heavy metal and new romantics made the early eighties what is was. Great time for new music.
stick the headphones on and they get better - claires voice is mesmeric
A sadly under-rated group who produced some excellent work, a brilliant find.
Check my channel I've posted 3 albums with bonus tracks
How is a group that sold millions of records and still in demand possibly underrated ????
@@pressureworks They barely made the billboard hot 100. Pretty much only known in Europe.
@@nick16279 very very incorrect. Maybe read Wikipedia next time. Then you Could Be Happy.

Brilliant session, I was gutted when they went pop. Saw Altered Images at the ICA in 1981 and Siouxsie was in the audience:)
I was there too at the ICA

Wow - they were fabulous in 1980 weren't they? They were pretty great as a pop band too, but these early punk songs are brill...
Post punk
It is impossible to look at Clare and not feel like you are 16 again and head over heels in love.
Yep
Loved this period of their work. Great JP session
heck yeah...so 80s! so RAD! so good!
You said it! Spot on!😊
Excellent stuff. I had no idea they had such a chunky sound before the chart hits. Really interesting, thick, layered guitar.
omfg I actually remember listening to this back in 1980 in my room in Bath YMCA - Peelie was our salvation - jesus i was 18!
Recorded this myself at the time. Long lost tapes of never forgotten times. Ever cool I went to see Gregory's Girl with my big sister!
Gosh, i remember listening to and taping this. They played in my old school .
Opening track! Pre PIXIES PEOPLE!!!🙌
Totally and years before.
Yes!
She was my poster on my wall! 😍
And mine. I couldn't stop staring at her
Saw them play at Lancaster and they were brilliant. Thanks for finding this one for us.
I saw The Fall wearing a Altered Images T-shirt I made.not that it matters.but it was amazing anyway.Xo

BRILHANTE ESSE SOM
This was a group of innately musical people who quite simply cohered.

what butlins does she play at?
Do you think Justine Frischmann from the band Elastica listed to this first tune?
Most definitely :)
Yes. I hear the Pixies, as others have already said. In the first track, of course. Good songs.
Used to go and see many bands in the eighties, can remember catching them at the end the ica supporting spizz energy, one song amazing, just a shame they got ruined by there label
A days wait ...
Where the Pixies got their sound ....
Have to admit I hadn't thought that before. I heard this peel session ages ago but listening back to it I can see how they might have influenced them.
Far- fetched: impropable, implausible
They definitely did, into the white.i even asked Kim deal
@@DorianDuVerger you can hear the influence
Also hearing the sounds of the time; early Cure, U2 Joy Division...
have the first 2 releases on vinyl
Get the 3rd and also get the half speed master vinyls also
were not altered images a great band before the went pop.......

If only Dave ever actually had a chance to live with Krissy, in Fiji. They could & would be happy.
Red Dwarf
sounds like they were the exact predecessors of what became the pixies
Same year as Boy album! Just as good if not better ... .
Give your head a wobble...not in the same league.
First saw them supporting Siouxsie and the banshees followed from then on, awesome band a bit spoilt by pop stardom
HOW MACHE DVD?
Think we all needed a cold shower JP. 😍😍
My four tissue fantasy
