    Cheers for a cracking write up on the Pixel Fold...
    My main phone will always be my iPhone due to being so deep into the Apple ecosystem and having an AWU etc...
    But I need a new daily driver for work to replace a crappy Samsung A series mobile but want 5G for the days when Virgin Media decide to be crap and constantly drop broadband 🤨 (yup, even with 1TB fibre they can be absolutely crap at times)...!
    My spare phone is a Pixel 4XL, owned since new and still like new (still a bloody good camera too) but it is a bit slow and showing its age...
    The fold capability really appeals to me for when I want to read magazines or Kindle etc.
    I don't have an iPad any more as I work off my M2 Macbook Air 15" and an iPad was just gathering dust...
    But a smaller yet capable device like the Pixel Fold ticks a lot of boxes as if I decide to want to run Android as my daily driver, I'll be moving from one flagship (14 Pro Max) to another (Pixel Fold)
    Plus I've shovel like hands and the narrowness of the Z Fold really puts me off...
    Have a great Christmas
    Slainte 🥃

    I could have dealt with most of the faults of the Pixel fold, but I could not get over how glossy and reflective the inner display was. I'm someone who uses the inner screen of foldables very often- in almost all lighting scenarios except a pitch black room, the Pixel fold had annoying reflections that kept from enjoying the experience. My ZFold4 was bearable, but now that I have the OnePlus Open, it's a whole new world. No reflections, virtually no crease and the screen gets super bright outdoors. I hope other manufactures take a major note from Oppo's/Oneplus's inner display.

    • @BoringExtremes
      @BoringExtremes 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I agree, it's really crazy that they put a screen protector over the screen that is that reflective. OnePlus did a great job with their version. The screen protector seems like a small detail but it makes a big difference.

    I've just picked one up on ebay in perfect condition for half the list price. At that price I agree that it's an amazing phone. From all the reviews I've seen the price seems to be the main gripe. The form factor is perfect, software is solid although possibly not as good as one UI 6 on the fold 5. Multitasking is great, as I don't really have the need for more than 2 apps at oncea,and ive had no issues with perfomance of the G2 chip or battery life, despite heavy use over the last few days.
    Last phone was a flip 4, and was about to upgrade to a flip 5, but had some issues getting it the flip 4 repaired due to dead pixels (4 weeks with Samsung care) I did try an iPhone 15pro for a week during the excessive repair period, but couldn't live with iOS so went for this instead.

      Yep I also found the best deals on eBay. Soo many. Was going to get a used one at a great deal, but instead bought brand new, 512mb unit on eBay with no box. I haven't seen many of those.
      Them Samsung flip models are prone to screen issues because of their narrow fold crease.

    I'm not a massive fan of cex due to some past experiences but whenever ive bought A grade it has been mint condition as new. You can get a pixel fold for 1100 A grade and if your wanting instant credit you can trade in towards this. A good way to go in the UK. A lot of phone for £1100. I was close to going over to the z fold 5 before the aspect ratio fix for apps In landscape on the in er screen, thankfully this was added through the beta software update. There are thing I prefer about the z fold especially with the inner display but the benefits of the form factor, camera and the outside screen give the pixel fold the win for my usage case.

Cameras are on point. The battery life has shockingly improved since the update. Temperature is more controlled. Dictation is second to none. Runs buttery smooth as of now. The wording is misleading in regards to app optimisation. Google are not optimising the app, to be clear. Apps like instagram/facebook are not optimised for ANY foldable - what you're talking about here is 'full screen' features - where the app is effectivlely blown up to fill the entire screen. That is not the same as proper app optimisation. Yes an addition to Pixel that wasn't there and was needed quite frankly, but its only fair to say this isn't Google's fault entirely.

    • @AverageDadOfficial
      @AverageDadOfficial  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      and you are wrong but thanks for taking the time to comment. more apps now have menus on the left side and more functionality in full screen mode... that is calle optimisation! i am not only talking about stretching the screen size.

      @@AverageDadOfficial What are you talking about? You literally said in the video that Instagram and Facebook were not optimised and now they are. YOU ARE WRONG! THEY STILL ARE NOT OPTIMISED. You're talking past him. He says apps are now actually optimised with new menus etc on the left screen (not just stretched out or aspect ratio changed), you say they're not actually optimised.

    • @milpatel83
      @milpatel83 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@aliasgharkhoyee9501 No, I said specific apps he mentioned like Facebook/Instagram are not optimised in the sense that the developers have not suddenly made it compatible with foldables. I also said the wording is misleading as he used ‘App Optimisation’ and ‘full screen’ interchangeably - yes I know, ridiculously pedantic on my part but we need to get the facts straight here. Yes, there are third party apps with menus on the left, and dev are updating apps as we speak, but this was never a negative for this device, that’s all I was trying to say.

  • @Maxx134a
    @Maxx134a 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Wow great video. I noticed at least 3 other Oneplus reviewers also doing same. While claiming or admitting the OnePlus is the best, they still keeping the Pixel Fold as their daily driver.
    Fun facts I noticed in my decision for the Pixel Fold:
    **Pixel Fold's inner screen is exact size of the zFold 3/4/5 screen 😅, yet with a less severe sharp narrow crease, which Samsung should have fixed by now, but didn't.
    **It also has same OUTER dimensions as the "OnePlus Open" unit rotated it 90°, but a bit smaller "inside", with those bezels.
    I placed some cool looking carbon fiber vynl cover on my bezels, so now my Pixel Fold looks way nicer and more personalized!
    ** Since 90° rotation on OnePlus makes it so close to the Pixel, I realized they "could have" made their unit fold same way as the Pixel, to gain more usable width for outer screen(!), and still have their same inner screen they currently have!. Yet they chose the taller route 🫤
    **The Pixel Fold actually has the "NORMAL" sized phone width, and it's shorter height (than others)means you can reach the top menu bar in one handed use. 🙂
    **Pixel Fold You can see a larger outer screen image, when in "tent mode", due to being a wider size.
    ** Infinite "folding" and "opening" positions. It doesn't loose tension when going past opening 90°, while some other China foldables like OnePlus will want to snap full open past 90°.
    **Pixel Fold Cameras retain Superiority in quick shot, image color, & software processing.
    ** Pixel Fold cameras are more optimally placed arcoss top of unit, which makes them totally out of the way. In comparison, Samsung cameras are verticaly placed down the side, were your hand grip the area = more fingerprints.
    The issue is worse on the OnePlus Open. It's huge glass covering of cameras causes users hand to cover it, so have to wipe lenses free of finger prints before taking pics.😅 Also the outer glass seems vulnerable to get scratched, since aftermarket cases not protect it.
    **Some other videos also showed light interference from OnePlus Open's camera's huge glass cover (lighter images in sun, soft lens flare).
    **PixelFold (finally acknowledged here 👍) has the more advanced AI... Like faster google keyboard speech to text, more complex "hey google" verbal commands, call screening, voice messages having text transcript(!), & more😮
    **Pixel Fold always gets latest Android OS, but I like the beta program, because of features that came out earlier, like 5 row icons on display, full screen apps, dual display images for cover & main screen, and more.
    **Pixel Fold having Wireless charging is always a plus, but this device it needs it! So good to have 😅
    **The Pixel Fold is More pocketable than all other taller Foldables(!)
    How? Try sitting or squatting with a tall narrow phone in front pocket. It will pop out(!), because of the narrowness makes it loose in pocket! Then the taller length of the unit pushes it out(!) usually when squatting or bending forward, in comparison to the Pixel Fold which won't.
    **This also makes the Pixel Fold more "holdable" than ALL taller Foldables, since it's compact it becomes more "centered" in the hand. While it's true other foldables can feel lighter, their height will still feel more awkward, in comparison to the Pixel Fold, which translates to the bottom line, how the unit works and it feels in your hand, thruout the day. The Pixel Fold retains this advantage 🥲

    For me the pixel fold was probably the most anticipated device of 2023 and also the biggest disappointment of 2023. What a let down.

    • @Maxx134a
      @Maxx134a 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't remember of Google offered any trade in deals in beginning but the initial Pixel Fold price made me vomit 🤑 Or I would have bought it earlier.
      Sold off Samsung 3&4 and Suffering with a broken Surface Duo, while planning and waiting for OnePlus to arrive, only to stab me in back(!😮) by copying Samsung format, which I have built a great animosity towards Samsung. I didn't want a better Samsung. I wanted a better Oppo. It probably doesn't make sense, but to me I saw OnePlus's form factor to be a "better" copy of Samsung.
      So went to Ebay for great deals on Pixel Fold, and I am now I very happy with my decision 🎉
      One last point on Samsung, they haven't (substantially) changed their hinge design at all, in 5 generations. This is a huge problem, because Samsung retains the sharpest center crease, which makes their screens most vulnerable at the hinge area to crack.
      I state this, because I am seeing heavy complaints with their "Flip" phones in the review sections of "refurb" units.
      At least the google crease is wider and gentler.
