A device that's part of a unique category of products for Google is a great subject for videos, particularly if its about their evolution with time.

I’ve been an Apple fan boy since the iPhone 3 all the way to the iPhone 13pro, a week ago I bought the pixel fold and let me tell you the Apple has already gone back in part exchange. The pixel is simply phenomenal in every single way, it’s light years ahead of the Apple. The Apple for ease of use is better but I think that’s only because I haven’t fully mastered the pixel. If you are on the fence, trust me and make the switch….this thing is a game changer.
One point, I had my IT company do the switch over in terms of contacts, music, WhatsApp etc and I’d suggest if you do switch to have a company do it for you as there’s no way I could’ve done it.

Pixel is not even competing. Not even the best software.
I had to install MS Launcher to make it usable.
The Software is a disaster, the hardware is even worse.
I also have Samsung Fold 5, much superior in a aspects.
I also used Xiaomi Mixfold 2 and 3.
The device is weird, in a bad way.
The font is weirdly sized, when set smaller it makes you doubt your vision - thanks to the inferior screen quality, and this is the cover screen.
The white color is weird, making the text hard to read, even when night protection is off. The inside screen is inferior to all types I used.
The hing not being flat is highly annoying even though you think that you will overlook it with time.
Shuffling between the two devices (Samsung Fold5 and Pixel Fold) really highlighted the inferiority of Pixel fold).
I do not believe the next generation will be good enough given how bad the current version is.

@@MrAlbusa3idi I have the pixel fold after leaving iPhone after over a decade. Yes the phone has its faults but it has little things, like the camera that are far superior in every way to the Apple. The Face ID and the auto text on the iPhone are way way better though and it annoys me on the pixel why it cannot fathom the words I’m typing like the iPhone did.
Regarding ease of use, again the iPhone was better but I put that down to me just not having used an android phone previously. Once you open that middle screen up though, the pixel fold comes into its own, also the ratio is far superior on the pixel to the Samsung which I tested yet decided not to buy. Overall I love my pixel fold, I’d be interested in potentially moving back to Apple once they have a fold phone that can compete

I honestly LOVE the aspect ratio of the Galaxy fold's front screen. Its perfect for one handed use, and the OS works in a way that you DONT have to reach the tippity top of the phone for just about ANYTHING. The narrow aspect ratio allows the to quicky reply to a text, or navigate my phone's apps WITH ONE HAND quite easily. Yeah the aspect ratio is weird and takes some time to get used to, but just like going from regular flip phones made of plastic to smartphones took time, this does too

I feel like the way the Fold 4 opens into portrait solves many of the criticisms of the Pixel Fold. I bought a Fold 4 specifically to unfold it as much as possible as opposed to using the outer screen 90% of the time. Two different perspectives I suppose. The market is better with both options out there.

    • @Ronnet
      @Ronnet ปีที่แล้ว +3

What criticism? I look at it as the Pixel Fold having the optimal design for a phone screen as well as the optimal design for a tablet screen. The last part is more debatable as some prefer portrait mode for tablets but I see tablets as consumption devices primarily, so you want landscape to watch videos and play games. Whereas the outside screen is for more smartphone specific activities from answer messages to finding the quickest route to a place nearby. In my opinion the Galaxy fold is not designed for either. It's only optimal in the sense that it opens apps designed for phones really well its tablet screen. Which seems like a weird priority since those apps don't benefit as much from the extra screen since they're designed with phone screens in mind as well.

I’m amazed that INSTAGRAM finally has a large screen redesign and it came to Android first, that’s crazy. The app’s nav bar is now on the left side. I think you missed the point. I don't think a foldable is meant to use 50/50 for inner/outer screen. I personally don't think the inner screen is supposed to be used the majority of the time. It's there to use when needed such as watching videos, viewing photos, multi-tasking when you need 2 or more apps open at the same time, etc. Majority of the time you only open 1 app at a time so why do you need to open the phone for that? Like I'm not folding open the phone to view twitter for example. I'd rather use the front screen for that. Again, this is just my personal opinion/preference. There is always a few times a day where I'm just thinking it would be nice to open my phone to use a larger screen to multi-task. But by no means would I constantly be opening and using the inner screen. The premium is worth it to be able to open your phone a few times a day to do the task the way you want to. It's like a folding laptop, nobody constantly uses their laptop in tablet mode, but for those few times it's worth it. Right now I would never get an Android based phone due to the app quality, but once Apple announces a foldable I would highly consider it.

I moved from the Surface Duo 2 to the Pixel Fold. It seemed like the best fit, as I am used to a similar aspect ratio. There are a few things the Fold takes and implements a little better than the Duo 2 but, multitasking is still something to be desired. If Google is going to make a device that multi-tasks only two apps at a time, they need to greatly improve how it's done. That was one of the main appeals for me. I can agree with the usage pattern of 90% outside screen to 10% inside screen, that's how mine's been used. But after a bit, why buy a folding phone with a big screen for 10% of the time? $1800 to occasionally look at photos is kind of ridiculous.... Yes, the Samsung Fold has a odd front screen, but the utility the software provides, and how it invites you to use the larger screen makes more sense for more of a "power user"
Google has made a phone that more "standard" users can jump into and not feel overwhelmed, and maybe that is a good approach to bring users in, then increase the feature set as the product matures. However, the people buying foldables today want more utility out of their device, and its a big reason I am going back to the Fold 5.

The price is by far and away from the V60s, which if you include the BOGO T mobile offered is basically $450. It's the biggest argument going against it tbh. That's the proper shape for your kind of users. People who like the wider aspect ratio should stop disregarding the other side (the ones that prefer the ZFold form factor), which, if sales are anything to go by, are the majority.
It's okay that you like the Pixel Fold, Oppo Find N w.e. better. I for one, who has actually daily a Fold for the past 2 years, prefer this form factor, because I want to see EVERYTHING in the big screen. So I'm 98% of the time using the big screen, and that's what I paid 2k for. Stop trying to force Samsung to also go that route. We don't want it and I like the fact that there's options out there.

The split launcher design of thr Pixel makes it perfect to have a Microsoft Duo like multitasking experience. With that phone you can swipe any app to one screen and see the launcher on the other screen. Which allows you to easily open a second app next to it, as well as close one app and use the launcher to find a third app with the first app still open. I hope Google brings this functionality to their Fold because it's such a natural experience and behavior that once you do it once it just clicks and works for you.

So the open Z Fold 4 is in a holder above my computer and you can copy and paste from computer to cell phone. Also the slim design of the Z Fold just fits better in my pocket. You, I and many Fold users want a pocketable tablet which also can be used as a phone. The Z Fold's form factor is perfect for us because it is very pocket-friendly, and IMHO also very elegant when folded. The gentlemen in this round prefer a slab phone and not a tablet for the majority of use-cases. Therefore, a foldable just does not make sense to them, and they won't be able to judge how good a foldable is as long as they are not aware of the relevant aspects they have to look at: they always look at Folds as phones and not as tablets.

I think it comes down to what they said, Samsung Fold has a horrible outer screen (size/aspect ratio) that nobody wants to use, so they use the inside screen. Google Fold has a great outer screen (size/aspect ratio) so you only need to use the inner screen when you want to view something larger or multi-task. Personally I would never get the Samsung Fold due to the aspect ratio but I would get the Google Fold because the outer and inner screen are the perfect size, and I would probably mostly use the outer screen because it's actually usable and would use the inner screen for video or multi-tasking.

I wouldnt want to carry a thick foldable phone 100% of the time and just use the tablet mode 10-20%. I use the fold’s large screen 80% of the time, and when i’m outside and need to quickly reply or take a call, the front screen is very useful for one handed use. In a way it solves two scenarios for me - folded it is a basic phone that’s easy to use one handed and unfolded i have a tablet with me.

Though I love the design on the Pixel Fold, I think Samsung has done a better job optimizing apps for the inner display. I think that these two form factors will drive two different behaviors.
Pixel Fold's passport form seems to be more for people that are smartphone 1st with the option to use the inner display for content consumption.
Galaxy Z Fold seems to be for tablet 1st users with the convenience of folding down into a smartphone. I think the Fold makes more sense for productivity users. Heavy multitasking, messaging, email and document management.
I start my day playing live news from TH-cam, read the news from Google News and respond to text in Google Messages. Throughout the day, I use Chat, Messages and IG. I like to leave open Calendar, Gmail and Messages. With 2 sets of 3 apps split screen, I'm getting 5-6 hours of SOT when using the inner as my primary. When moving around socially, I use the cover display and get up to 8 hours of SOT.

I switched from iPhone to Samsung Fold 3 two years ago. In summary, I love the phone. As a long time iPhone user, the first week I had mixed emotions of missing iOS but loving the Fold's huge screen until I was "weaned" off iOS. Why did I switch? Because I got tired of Apple just giving me a better camera and new phone colors. They were supposed to be the brand of innovation, but seeing the same rectangular phone every year and making the main thing for this year a titanium frame is borderline insulting. Thus, I rewarded Samsung for taking a risk, for designing something completely different, for providing options (you can still get their flagship S23 Ultra).
I find myself using the inside screen at least 90% of the time just because it is such a joy to use. Watching TH-cam, Netflix, Max, etc is great! Pictures is same thing, just awesome!
At the same time, there are simple things you can do in the outside screen which is so nice to do and hold with just one hand. I am getting ready to upgrade to Fold 5.

I love both screens on my z fold 5 personally. They both have their perfect uses.

Crazy Taxi looks good on the inside screen. It's the only game I have on my phone. Also, you can set the keyboard on the inside screen to be a normal keyboard instead of a split one.

That would make keyboard too big. Split Gboard to large. Samsung's one is better, less travel for my thumbs.

It's funny, when I use my Z Fold 4, I use the inner screen 90 percent time for daily use. Having a foldable and not making use of the foldable feels kinda pointless.

It's genuinely amusing how these phellaz love the outside 5.8 inch screen and apparently it's good enough for 90% of cases... this was the default screen size/factor for phones up until 2015ish. Then we got the useless tall/narrow form factor. Hopefully this will bring back what we lost 8 years ago, same as how we're getting back the 16/10 aspect ratios after 10 years of being told that 16/9 is better because that's what movies use nonsense.

Marvel Snap plays really well on the inside screen if you rotate it. Full fills and it's pretty fun!

4:00 as a biased Surface Duo user, being able to access two app at the same time is awfully valuable.

I LOVE my Pixel Fold, more than 7 users got their hands on it! Even with the early adoption glitches, it's my favorite phone to date!!
