Thank you for doing these tutorials. I can read a manual front to back to wind up scratching my head “what did i just read?”. Hearing and “being there with you” is my “plug” in to learning. Just ordered one of these and I’m using it to restore my 2000 Lincoln LS S 3.9L. Thank you again!
Thanks for such a nice comment. I am kinda the same when it comes to manuals. I definitely prefer hands on or a more visual approach. Have fun with your Lincoln, sounds like a nice ride! I bet that v8 is fun!
"First off, thanks for putting together this video and highlighting some of the shortcomings of these OBD2 scanners. While these scanners are marketed to DIY consumers, their limitations leave users with a lot of guesswork. They list impressive-sounding capabilities on the box, but when it comes to troubleshooting and analyzing data, they often fall short. Basic functionality might be there, but trying to print out a readable report or perform in-depth data analysis can be tedious and restrictive. As they say, ‘you get what you pay for,’ but at $400, I expected more. With 30 years in computers, I find the data output confounding and surprisingly basic given today’s complex vehicles. Without proper training, DIY users can easily misinterpret the data, leading to frustration.”
That was super useful to know what it is and the normal range. Like reading my blood test results, no clue what that does but good to know whether it is normal or not 😊
Thanks for the comment! That's a great analogy. I agree it is almost like bloodwork telling you how things are going. I need a service manual for my body to compare numbers 🤣.
My fuel system 1 , 2 ,& 3 all say... not available ? Koeo 2013 silverado 4x4 3/4 ton 6.0 ...55lbs at the rail fitting , w/ fuel pressure gauge , it twitches when i throttle it , runs terrible , changed the front pipe new convertors and 02 sensors , dump gas tank put in fresh gas , no inline fuel filter , no codes , fuses all good trying to smoke test it with a homemade tester , no leaks found yet , tester needs more work ..im running in circles i think ..they drove it with convertors bypassed to my place , it kept shutting down , long term fuel trim 1&2 -30.01 ....ouch ..compresion test was a little wavy , 168 lowest , most were 180 to 200 , one was 210 ?? Wierd ? Wondering if it will ever run ?
Thanks again for the comment. I started this channel a bit ago and had kinda stopped looking at it after only getting 12 views in the first month. Then looked today and was shocked. I had over 1,000 views, some super nice comments, and even some subscribers. It made my day! I am going to start editing part 2 today. Thanks again for posting!
Thanks for doing these videos. Was wondering is there a booklet or sheets available that would explain what you just talked about here? I would really like to learn what these data stream measures mean and what the ranges should be on a car to attempt a diagnostic and not just jumping on codes and changing out parts. Again, thanks so much for your channel.
Thanks for the very informative tutorial. One question-can you access all live data points while a car is running in idle or do some data points like transmission temp and coolant temp have to be taken while the car is being driven in gear to get accurate reads. Please let me know. Thanks.
A few can be seen with key on engine off, but most need the car to be running. I usually check with the car already warmed up and idling. But if looking at something like the ECT I might check it first with the engine cold and watch it as it changes and warms up. Just to verify a low and high reading.
Thank you! I really appreciate your comment and it totally made my day. As mentioned below on the first comment I only had like 12 views in the first month, so had kinda stopped paying attention as I thought it was just not that good of a video. I got busy on the weekends and wasn't paying attention to it until now. Then I see your nice comment and that I actually got some subscribers and views. I will finish the second part of the video soon and try to make more videos that might be useful. Thank you for the encouragement and for taking time to post!
Helpful video and gives a lot to be looking for. I recently got one of these tools, so sorry for the ignorance but I thought you were only supposed to use when engine is off? I think I must have missed something.
Thanks for the first comment! And for the encouragement to make more videos. I got sidetracked as the video only had 12 views in the first month and I thought people probably didn't like it. Then I came back today and saw I had comments and even some subscribers. It made my day! I really appreciate you taking the time to post it. I will work on part 2 and make some more videos for sure! Thanks again!
@@obdnerdz you deserve more, man. For some reason, information on reading and interpreting Live OBD2 data isn't available here on TH-cam. Some of us want to get a bit nerdy and see how our cars are performing; something we hardly truly get from Mechanics. I'm glad that you'll create some more videos.
I see you have your vehicle in "on" position. My instructions on my amtifo do not say to turn the vehicle on. Just to plug it into the obd inlet. My engine light went on and I'm about to use this obdII meter they gave me for the first time.
Hello, great video! I was wondering the correct procedure for getting the live data. I have a Motopower mp69033 scanner. My understanding is, insert it to dlc, then turn car on to read dtc codes then while still connected, turn the engine on and running to stream the live data while car is warmed up. I’m worried about damaging anything while starting the engine with the scanner connected, thank you!
I wish i could answer this with a definitive answer, but different manufacturers can have it on different sides. I usually verify for that specific vehicle in a shop manual or online.
Where do you find the ranges for PIDs? I have a 2013 Chevy Cruze 1.4 and I am having trouble finding my vehicle's specific ranges. Any help in the right direction would be much appreciated.
I usually look for a factory service manual to see if it has what I need. But they can get kinda expensive. Sometimes you can pick them up cheap used on ebay. You may want to try a site like cruzetalk.com and just leave a message to see if someone has one that can share the range your looking for. I also see a few people posted some 2014 Cruze 1.4 live data logs on pidfusion.net (just found this website this morning and haven't used it before), not sure if that might give you something to compare thats helpful. Good luck.
Thanks! I really appreciate you taking the time to comment and the encouragement! I will definitely be making more. (I had stopped looking at the channel for a bit as I only had 12 views after the first month. I was surprised to come back and see comments on it. I really appreciate it.
Personally that spark advance did not look normal at idle. It should stay close to 8 or 10 and hold that number. Not bounce around from -6 to 24. In my humble opinion. lol
Agree, hard to tell what all they can read by the advertising on them. I wish they included a list with each one that showed every PID it can read and what they can graph.
Try not to over explain things it confuses people. For example bank 1 and bank 2 example bank 1 on a v8 driver side four cylinder passenger side the other 4 cylinders boom done.

watching this video trying to figure out what’s wrong with my 2004 Lincoln ls 😂😂
I'm a visual learner too. People say, just read the manual. No sir, it doesn't work like that for me.
MAN!!!! thank you so much, not sure why its such a challenge to find a tutorial on all the acronyms and codes..Thank you!!!!!
Yeah - reading the code accompanyment throws things off
This is the video I was looking for and you are good at teaching.
Thanks so much! That really means a lot, and I appreciate you taking time to comment. Have a great rest of the holiday!

Very Helpful. I just got my first OBDII scanner with live data, so I know very little.
Excellent video for beginner, please keep on making these videos.
Definitely learned a lot, thank you!
Thanks! Have a great night!
Watched the whole the entire video. Good content.
Only watched a minute are so I can. Already say love how you describe everything thank you
Excellent tutorial! Its helping me to understand Live Data.. Thank you
Thanks!
thx, I'm learning a lot, but not enough yet to fix my 97 camaro from stalling and no code returned. Knowledge is power

Great video. The info was clear and well covered. Much appreciated
Very informative video for me wanting to learn about obd2 scanners.
Thanks! So much to learn and so much information you can get from OBD2 scanners. Hope you have fun!

I'm from Ghana too🥳🥳
Is there a way to find out what these numbers should be per your specific vehicle to compare the readings?
Also, I’m looking for standard number

why so worried about time length of video? Kinda getting in the way of learning about this device.
Thank you your information is very helpful.
Loved it!!! Want more!

?what does this mean?
Long Trim stays at Zero, dont move,
Short Trim run up around 10,
think its bad CAT or fuel pump?
What if you see FuelSYS1 Cl and FuelSYS2__ like two blanks. Is that good. I've a V8
Im wondering if the ETC you mention is Transmission Temp?
very educative. Thank you regards
Thank you!
Love it .! Thanx.
Excellent 👌
Thanks a lot 😊
Keep em coming
Thanks!
Thanks mate very informative
Thanks for the nice comment!
Ok...But which side is bank one and which is bank two. Your diagram doesn't not decifer front or rear of engine.
I wish i could answer this with a definitive answer, but different manufacturers can have it on different sides. I usually verify for that specific vehicle in a shop manual or online.
@@obdnerdz It appears to me, after extensive research, the bank containing the #1 piston will be bank 1.
