    I had a 2005 Impala with the 3.8 and the trans went bad at 131,000 miles....Solenoids went bad causing harsh shifts and then one day, heard what sounded like marbles circulating around inside the trans and then after that started happening, the trans would only work when car was cold...As soon as it warmed up, it would not move.
    Trans shop said that the clutch material on the lockup torque converter had broken down and circulated into the trans, clogging the filter and passageways.
    They installed a rebuilt transmission and I drove the car another 120,000 miles, finally retiring the car this month due to other issues at 251,000 miles.
    These 4T65E transmissions seem to run hot.....I changed the fluid on the 2nd transmission with 40,000 miles after installation (171,000 miles on car by then) and the fluid had already gone from a light pink color to a dark dark red....almost black....so there were issues with the design of that transmission.
    GM switched over to a 6 speed automatic on later model Impalas which hopefully is a better transmission.....I bought a used 2017 Impala a few weeks ago with the 6 speed and 32,000 miles.

      I had two Impalas. One a 2003 Impala LS with the 3.8 V-6, and the other a 2005 with the 3.4 V-6. Both had transmission problems with the clutch. It's not the solonoid. The transmission shops, and GM dealer's service department said they all do it. The GM dealer also said the same transmission appeared in the Buick Century, Skylark, and Le Sabre. The problem is the engines have torque the transmission cannot handle. Even with the fluid changes, and new filter every 25,000 miles, I still had transmission problems. The transmission fails between 65,000, and 70,000 miles. The shops say they all do it, and they find clutch material inside the transmission upon teardown. The cost was about $3,500.00 each time I had to replace. After replacing the tranny's, the top end gaskets failed on both cars, and that was another $2,500. each time to repair. The heads on the engine had to be removed, and sent to a machine shop. After the same problem on both cars, I said I was done with the Impala.

    Yeah, the forward band likes to break on them. The pin is too short and it slams into the band and eventually breaks it. Sonnax sells a longer pin that I'm about to install in my replacement Trans. That cover down by the dipstick hole is where it is.

      @@a.6115. Oil change every 5k miles. Exhaustive maintenance at 100k and 200k that includes all fluids, filters, etc, etc. These typically will cost around a grand which sounds like a lot but cheaper than paying 600 a month for a car payment. And when anything requires maintenance take care of it asap so that you don’t have issues accumulating and one bad thing causing a series of domino effects. I’m not sure what your second question means. “New payers”?

    My 2009 Impala with 150,000 has had the transmission rebuilt 3X! The solenoids are NOT the problem. They have several poor quality parts in them that bend and fall apart. Once you put in good quality parts you should be okay for a while. I paid to have mine rebuilt or it wouldn’t have had to be done but once! They refuse to recall them. I’m now a Ford guy.

  • @bossblck6399
    @bossblck6399 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Chevy mechanics told me it’s the solenoids. It’s cheaper to drop the tranny and replace the solenoid pack rather than buying a rebuilt one for over $2k. The dealerships just got tired of replacing the solenoids because it happened so often that they just started telling people they need a new transmission. The Buicks and Caddy CTS’s have the same issues as well as the Impalas from 2006-2013 🤦‍♂️ GM is pathetic!

    Lol. Mine makes that same sound in The dash. Lol. Thought it was mice at first. I noticed the sou d happens every single time you close the door and the dome light times out. Right before it times out the sound happens. Open Open door and close it and wait. On time everytime. I've been having a major issue with stalling after driving 20 minutes. Or it can be parked and once fully warmed up about 15 to 20 minutes in it stalls. No engine light on. Got a c0561 code. Traction Control. Abs is messed up on driver side. But when it stalls after its all warmed up if you are driving you can Rev it back to life and it will backfire and run rough but stay alive. I've you are stopped you can catch it but it happens fast and without notice. Unless its during a Rev or acceleration. Then you can catch it. Backfire back to life and the tachometer stops working. Let it sit for a bit and cool down and it will run until it gets all warmed up again. When it starts after a full stall the tachometer will work again. But if you catch it and Rev it the tachometer go out.

    • @jtheexistentialist1221
      @jtheexistentialist1221 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stalling was the crank sensor and the harness was trash so we rebuild the harness from three separate pigtails. A three pin, a two pin, and a 5 pin connector spliced together worked amazingly. No more stalling. Chevy wanted 3200, to do the sensor and pull a head to change a broken bolt. Got it all done at my super Pakistani mechanic for 1200. I paid separately for parts.

    my 07' impala has 240k. the transmission started stalling only from the stopped position at like 70k. am the 2nd owner, 1st guy said something about a soloenoid. But anyways it didnt get worse intil about 220k and now at 240k one day taking off from a stop sign it was trying to catch in 1st to go and it snapped. sounded like a link broke or something. it works in low 1 and low 2 and reverse, just not low 3 or drive. it also has has some metal shavings in the fluid for quite a while. so is he transmission shot u think? and is it repairable? I love this car. it would only have problems in 1st once in a while and then once it warmed up it shifted nicely. so i feel like other then the metal shavings u could barely see it went from minor problems to now its toast??it lasted 240 tho. but maybe its not done yet

    Those actuators under the dash on the Impalas do that and it's very annoying! I'm on my 3rd set. Luckily it's an easy fix taking out the glove compartment thankfully. I have an original transmission with 212,000 miles on it and I'm having the exact same issue with my transmission now.

    What is the sign of a bad transmission? For a long time when I would shift to reverse it sounded like a harsh shift change, almost like it had to slide into whatever it hooks onto when shifting to reverse (I am not a car guy)
    Also sometimes when turning too sharp it sounds like something is scraping under my car yet there’s nothing hanging down
    Check engine light just came on so I’m assuming it’s the transmission based off those things. Engine seems to be running fine

    2011 Impala 3500 V6. Sometimes when I come to a stop light the engine revs up but the car moves very slow. If I hold the gas peddle down I'll feel "something" kick hard & the car will jolt forward like normal. I've gotten to where I accelerate very slow from a stop, so if I feel the car reving up but not really moving I back off the gas pedal. After it starts slowly moving forward it will accelerate normally. This is a sometimes thing, but I think it's happening more often. Would anyone think it's the transmission??

    The SS's (V8 Models) are almost a guarantee to have the transmission go bad. The stock trans is an HD, and it still isn't enough.
    It's a FWD car with a fair amount of heat giving into the trans. Googling Ls4, will help you.
    The car has It's own following and manufacturers of aftermarket parts and rebuilds.
    To help save your transmission, a tru-cool 40k trans cooler is great for them.
    A tune will also extend the life of the transmission.
    I own an '09, it's getting its 2nd replacement transmission put in.
    Great cars otherwise.

    The transmission routinely gets too hot because stupid GM made some cars with the radiator end caps on the sides instead of the top and bottom. Therefore they have to put the transmission cooler in the side oriented vertically instead of in the bottom horizontally. The radiator is 30 degrees hotter in the top than the bottom--about 215 versus 185. The upper part of the transmission cooler is always too hot. Transmissions need to stay below 200. An auxiliary cooler will prevent 90% of the problems if installed soon enough before too much damage is done. Dumb ass GM engineers.
