Building a Medieval Viking House | 10 Day Bushcraft Shelter Build

- We build a Viking House in this 10 day Bushcraft shelter build. We use simple hand tools and traditional techniques to build a Viking shelter in the forest. The timber frame is built out of cedar, as is the bark roof. The fire pit is about 5ft long and 1ft deep. We made raised beds and cooked many feasts over the Viking longpit! Safety suggestion: When two people are carrying a heavy load such as the log you were sharing in the beginning of the video, ALWAYS carry it on the same shoulder as the person in front! That way, if one of you trips or stumbles and has to lose the load either tossing it or dropping it the other person isn't trapped with the object crossing their chest and can easily toss it off. That little trick has saved my bacon several times over the years!

im glad safety is alive & well in 3852 bc..dont go outside,,its not safe..
That is a moot suggestion if there are only 2 guys and they have opposing shoulder injuries. in which case they should keep that in mind and excursive more caution. in my heyday I'd carry one on each shoulder by myself while working alone which was most of the time. However, Your suggestion is feasible.

Why do you burn the ends of some of the wood? Does it prevent rot when in contact with the ground?
Yeah I wanted to ask that too. I guess that prevents it from rotting but it seems like it is weakening the structure
It prevents rot by sealing and sterilising the wood, when it's in the ground it's harder for bugs to eat through it. It will rot eventually though
