  • Based on the sporty YZF-R3, the Yamaha MT03 naked machine is the smallest of the 'Massive Torque' range from Yamaha, and it's a bargain package of quality, rideability and style.

    Seems like such a good bike but the headlight is butt ugly

      I know right? Z300 headlight is way better. Too bad it's slightly under powered compared to the MT-03. Still prefer the Z300 though

      It looks weird on the blue/silver version - when you look at the black/silver one, it looks much more natural...

    That choking seagull in the background rendered the thing unwatchable. Well, unlistenable. May try again with subtitles, always good for a laugh.

    If you change the exhaust wouldn't the bike loose its LAMS status ? And in the case of a learner or provisional rider that would that make the bike illegal, and also mean their insurance would no longer cover them or the bike in an accident?

    • @cycletorquedotcom
      @cycletorquedotcom  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not necessarily. It doesn't change the engine's capacity, but it might affect the power to weight ratio. A pipe would only save a few kg so it's highly unlikely. Whether it's too loud or not is another question.
      It depends on the contract you sign with your insurance company.

      Do you think that a Slip on exhaust would change the power to weight ratio? I'm thinking of purchasing a slip on for a MT03. Do slip ons make as much of an impact (or any?) as a full exhaust system do?

    • @cycletorquedotcom
      @cycletorquedotcom  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Technically, yes the bike would weigh less with a carbon slip-on, even more with a full system, but realistically it wouldn't make much difference at all.
      A full system, high performance air filter and ECU mod like a Power Commander will make a difference.

      There is no substitute for cubic inches. Trying to extract horsepower out of these types of engines is simply too expensive. And even then most of what you gets going to be in the least used part of the rev range anyway. Torque figures are far more important than raw horsepower numbers for a street bike. Racing where you are ringing the bikes neck constantly is the only case for top end horsepower.
      The smart decision would be to either be happy with it in standard form or get a bigger capacity bike.

      Cycle Torque some NsW Police will take the view that any modification to the engine disentitles it as LAMS and hence non-compliant for L and P plate riders. Might be difficult to defend. For that reason I kept my SV650 completely stock, from an engine perspective. Better to avoid the issue while on restricted licence.
