    Good news, my 2022 Outland had no loose rear hatch molding. I fixed the hood flutter by adjusting the left and right hood rests in the front of the hood. I just turned the rests to point the arrow on them to the windshield, about half a turn.

    • @millerhighlights8465
      @millerhighlights8465  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Glad to hear it, Russell... I would suspect though, the hood latch adjustment would be the correct fix - you could easily tell by looking at the hood gap from the side. If the gap in the front is more than the rear of the hood, then the hood latch is out of adjustment. If the gap is consistent from front to rear, then adjusting the hood stops would be the correct fix...

  • @millerhighlights8465
    @millerhighlights8465  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I took my Outlander to the dealer to address the hood flutter - basically a hood adjustment. No improvement in the condition. Second level fix for this issue is a replaced and redesigned hood - note that this is not a recall or campaign, this would be under the category of a "field fix." Meaning, if the customer complains, they will go through two phases to address it - hood adjustment, or hood replacement if the adjustment does not fix it. I could see this becoming a campaign if there become any accidents due to this condition (If reported through NHTSA), and I'm sure there will be a production change to address the hood flutter in the future - it would make sense due to the excessive cost for hood replacements for current models. My next step is to have he hood replaced, then I'll report back with a video and evaluation of the fix. Also, through my personal further investigation, it appears it could possibly be the hood latch location being too far back on this model design, causing the hood to dip and flutter at the front of the hood - thus causing the entire hood to flutter. What appears to be a latch at the front of the hood is actually a safety hood catch, the actual latch is several inches behind the safety catch. Normally hood latches and the safety catch are both at the very front of the hood, but this design has them separated...

    Great review. We have the exact same color SE model without the tech package and we love it! Let me share a few thoughts about what we don’t like about it. First, I think you were generous with your hood rating. There were three different TSBs. It amounted to adjustments to the latch, then a weather strip on the front under the hood and lastly weather strips on both sides under the hood. It’s finally about 75% better. I can live with it now assuming that the flutter that’s left doesn’t impact the integrity of the hood over time. Next, the drive mode always defaults back to normal. We switch it to eco every time we start the car. I wish it would stay in eco. Along that same line, when you turn on the or off the cruise system, it changes the screen on the gauges away from the mpg screen that we like and you have to scroll through the screens to find the one we want every time. Again, stop changing things and leave them where we want them. Next, we feel like the cup holders for the front are in weird spots being so far back and below the center console lid. Cups are harder to reach. Lastly, we were told it has remote start and a garage door opener. While these are both true, they must be accessed through a phone app or app on the infotainment screen. You sign up with a free trial to access these features, when once the trial period ends, you have to pay to monthly to be able to use your cars features. I wish there were old school easy buttons on the mirror for the garage and the key fob for the remote start. None of these would have kept us from buying it, just little oddities that I wished were different. Oh, you’re right about the fake leather, and it is a fabric insert on the seats and not suede. We like the upholstery really well, but we do wonder about it’s longevity and how it will fold up.

    • @millerhighlights8465

      Nice feedback. Some of the concerns you mention would not be in a technical evaluation because they are subjective to each driver - yet that feedback is important for design purposes. A technical evaluation would generally be based on currently designed characteristics in terms of quality, durability, and operation. Subjective concerns would be customer feedback and considered in future design phases. So your points are valid for consideration for design change recommendations. I do agree with you about the remote start and garage door opener app - I also feel they should have been incorporated into the vehicles design, as well as on the app - the app has some good features too. Thanks for your comments and should provide your comments to Mitsubishi Motors - they do hear you, even if you think they don't...

      Losing all the settings the way I like them is so annoying on the previous generation Outlander PHEV that we have. I was hoping that would be corrected for this generation. Now it’s even worse because the old model has physical garage door buttons to use for free. Hate to hear it’s on the digital screen and with a subscription!

    We have a 2022 and have put 55,xxx miles on it. No problems at all. Only money spent was to replace tires at 49,000 and I probably could have gotten another 5,000 out of those. Mitsubishi has addressed the hood issue by replacing it with a heavier hood. If you are taking a long trip and set the cruise at around 77 mph you’ll average 37/38 mpg. Driving it around town and taking the kids to school we average 28/29 mpg. I never thought I would consider a Mitsubishi but my wife really liked it and it has a very small third row, that was a selling point to her for the few times we would need it. Very satisfied and would recommend to anyone. One of the best warranties in the industry

    I think the Acceleration is plenty to me it feels like it has has a 6 cylinder in it I just picked one up yesterday it's got 20 miles on it The only thing I don't like about it is the third row seat but If I wanted to haul 7 people around I would just buy myself A expedition But look at the price deference I think mitsubishi did a amazing job on this vehicle It's amazing how they get all of that tech inside the vehicle at the price they're listing them at

    • @millerhighlights8465
      @millerhighlights8465  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From a dead stop, the acceleration is a little lacking. However, it's kind of like driving a two-stroke motorcycle, once you get off the line and it starts breathing - it has plenty of power. This is also partially to the well tuned ECT that utilizes the engine power band perfectly. I've gone up steep grades with four passengers, and it went up it no problem passing other cars at 70 plus MPH speeds... I think everyone can agree though, the 3rd seat is about useless - unless it's 2 adults up front, 4 small kids in the back and the middle seats pulled forward to allow foot room for the 3rd seat... I never have, and probably never will have a reason to use it, so I just keep it down for the extra space. If you think of it as a 5 seat vehicle, it's an awesome vehicle.

    @warcrabcyber9908 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Good overall evaluation, the outlander is a great looking vehicle inside and out. There is a phev outlander coming soon and is already being tested in Japan. It should address all the acceleration concerns. This outlander more than likely needs a simpe ecu tune.
    Mitsubishi don't tune their ecu as good as mazda and toyota. But the potential is there. Mitsubishi engines are well built as well as Nissan.

    • @millerhighlights8465
      @millerhighlights8465  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yep, all new vehicles require fine tuning after the first release in production. I think they can resolve their off-start engine performance with a simple ecu/tcm tuning. I know a lot of consumers are looking for turbo charging (or etc.), but the power band and torque curve may not be suited for this class of vehicle with turbo. Personally, I have no issues with this engine or programming, it is more than sufficient for my needs and the class of this vehicle.

    thanks for your video, i am waiting the phev this spring in Canada to test it. big thanks for your comment about power, i mean everyday drive its more than enough and to cruise smoothly, i don't get why everybody focus on power even when its not needed in that type of car. About powertrain, i know Nissan had cvt issues, but i heard they improved them a lot in the new generation, a lot of people keep talking about cvt without the facts and stick to it, same as the people who still think Hyundai and Kiai have their 2000's quality issues lol. Something i really liked about your comments, i have a young family, you talked about safety and braking, most of the car reviews dont mention this when they compare the outlander with another brand, its super important for families when they want to buy a new car, i want my family to be in the safest car which make a huge difference when shopping for one and specially to convince my wife hahaha.

    • @millerhighlights8465
      @millerhighlights8465  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's a good option if you are "not" doing true off-roading. It can handle any situation on the road, snow, mud, rain, etc. But when ground clearance and the need for independent suspension is needed, this vehicle would be lacking. Additionally, it has "Mag" wheels, which are not designed for true off road. But for normal driving on roads, or maintained dirt roads, it's an awesome vehicle...

      This class of vehicle is more for luxury and not performance - and it meets this expectation very well. Negative reviews are not realistic in their comparison. If I was reviewing this vehicle as a sports car model class, then my review would have been different - but that's not this class of vehicle and it's an awesome vehicle in its model class and price range. I've had not complaints with this vehicle - except that I cannot purchase a repair manual for this vehicle to do my own repairs and diagnosis, but that's an industry trend that is now followed by all manufacturers and is as wrong as the rest of the crazy stuff going on in politics and business around the world...

    Love the review, I consider myself a car guy and we decided to replace my wife’s car with a 2022 Outlander SE AWD in cosmic blue. The color is absolutely fantastic and the interior blew me away. Mitsubishi had been laughed at for a while now; but this vehicle in its class, with the price point, features and warranty shocked me.
    My buddy has a top of the line RAV4 and although it is really nice we found the Outlander to be a much better vehicle. The Mits felt more solid, rode better, much nicer interior and a lot more features. The Outlander was also a ton nicer than the CRV and the drivability of that to me was crap. I am a fan of the CVT, I think it’s nice and no complaints and pairs well with the engine. My grandfather has driven a Nissan Murano since the early 2000s and he has never had an issue with his. I agree with people complaining about the acceleration is ridiculous. This isn’t a sports car and when you drive it around town it’s more than adequate and we have no complaints.
    The hood flutter is an issue but I think it will be fixed. It’s the largest in its size and we are averaging about 32-33 mpg with AWD which is very impressive. I think the biggest issue people and car reviewers have is that they are afraid to say, “dang Mitsubishi actually makes a better CUV than Toyota, Honda, GM, Kia/Hyundai and Ford”. They’ve been not good for so long it’s hard to say that but when you compare how it’s loaded with features, best in the industry warranty, fit and finish, beautiful interior and how it drives and has the quiteness of a luxury vehicle $20k more than what it costs, it’s easy to say that this was a car Mitsubishi absolutely knocked out of the park. This car is very comfortable and I love the seats, I’m about 6’5” 225 and I do wish the seats were a little wider, but it’s also not a Tahoe and overall I know seats aren’t built for folks like me. I still find it to be very comfortable and my wife is 6’ and she loves the seats but absolutely LOVES the car.
    I hope long term it holds up and is reliable because it’s a very nice car and the amount of tech and features it comes with for $32k is phenomenal. I hope Mitsubishi is back and time will tell with this car but my initial impressions are extremely good. Well done Mitsubishi and this car needs more attention because it is seriously top in its class.

    We have a 2002 Mitsubishi Montero Limited 4x4 that my parents purchased brand new back in 2002 and we still have it today, looks new with 232,000. Everything except sunroof works. Abs system went out around 150,000 miles but I bought one from eBay. Mitsu makes great products! The new 2022 Outlander was a lease possibility back in feb 2022 for me however, the closest Mitsu dealer is 50miles outside of LA which is not practical for service needs if things were to go bad, the hood issue was around since I’m a car guy I made sure I knew everything about it. It’s not nice when a manufacturer makes a beautiful product with an issue like the hood, I know Mitsu tests these cars..how man so many outlanders be effected by it and they never noticed it with there test car? I don’t like how it takes a long time for a remedy with auto manufacturers. The outlander drive was great, awd was a must along with tons of space and tech for me, the main reason why I leased a 22 Mazda CX-5 signature was because the outlander was too slow for me, it’s a big body but underpowered, #2 hood issue TSB and #3 dealer was 50miles away and #4 ILL NEVER OWN A CVT TRANS..NEVER! I hope the 2023 outlander is improved because I see the phev model coming out soon.

      I have a new hood ordered for my vehicle, which will have to be sent out to be painted. The hood is "not" under a recall, but a field fix and production change has been made to address the concern. Hood replacement is the second level repair is the hood adjustment has no effect. My hood was adjusted at the dealer and no change in the condition. A new hood was ordered for my vehicle, and will take about 3 days at the body shop to replace and paint to match the vehicle. I will report with a video update after the repair is performed - could take 3 - 4 months to get the hood.

Acceleration is not a big deal for me, and the acceleration is great for this class of vehicle anyhow... As far as the hood, it's now a big deal for me, but I'm going to have the dealer replace the hood - which is the 2nd level of repair or this condition. I’m on the fence about buying the phev when it comes available…. Overall what I’ve seen and read impresses. I’m assuming that the phev will resolve any issues about lack of acceleration. The one thing that’s bugging me despite the quality of the fit and finish is the buckling/ puckering of the (p)leather lateral seat supports. I’ve always had leather seats and have never seen this effect?

    • @millerhighlights8465
      @millerhighlights8465  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had not seen that on my vehicle, but it doesn't mean it doesn't exist on other vehicles. In a port evaluation we would have looked at and tested many vehicles and then would have rated the severity of the concern over the sample evaluated. I would say that if you pick a vehicle with good stitching, you are not going to have any further concerns with it. Yes, acceleration is always going to be better on an EV or Hybrid - but I'm not a big fan of the EV trend due to lack of infrastructure to support the program, and the long-term carbon footprint of hazards from waste disposal of the batteries. I think we will see hydrogen technology trends in the near future which is much cleaner and much less carbon footprint on the environment. Saying that, I felt the acceleration of the gas engine (Naturally Aspirated for you word geeks out there...), is more than sufficient for this class of vehicle - it's intended as a family model, not a sports model...

      keep in mind the Highlander is a family sized SUV while the Outlander is a Compact SUV with a 3rd row; two different class of vehicles. Better to compare the RAV4 against the Outlander than the Highlander. Another note, although Toyota has a solid reliability history, their powertrain warranty is industry standard 6 yrs while Mitsubishi is 10 yrs (make what you will of it). Last thing; JATCO CVT is on it's 3rd gen and Nissan has made improvements on the transmission; but I'm skeptic about how long these will last (according to Consumer Report's Nissan in the Top 10 for most reliable auto company so they may be already better now than 6 or 7 years ago and we're still stuck to that brand from yesteryear).

    I'd give that tool chest a 4.0 (since that's the highest numeral in this man's rating system parameters) with how well it endured setting up sites. There's only a few shelf faces that breached and collected a bit of lead inside.
    Given how tough his ratings are, I'd say 2.5 on the fluttering hood was generous. Waaay generous.
    I wonder if that hood is aluminum?
    I noticed some brands are actually now using a pair of left and right hood catches. Forget which brand I just saw this on. Makes sense if using aluminum hoods.

    • @jackmiller8227

      Yes, 2.5 was generous, but in the manufacturing world, that's what it would have rated as. If the latch was coming loose, it would have been a 1 or 2 which would have been a "stop sale" in production, but it didn't so it was a 2.5... The problem, which they have since fixed in production, was the location of the hood latch assembly was too far back from the front of the hood and when hitting bumps or choppy surfaces it would bounce the front of the hood causing the entire hood to flutter. With the new hood installed and painted to match, the concern has diminished 100%. With the production change to the hood assembly (added reinforcement), I have not heard of any complaints on this concern. You are going to always have minor issues no matter what brand or model you choose. Their support is great, they always take care of my needs, and the vehicle has been trouble free with the exception of the hood flutter - but they are stepping up and replacing the hood assembly. I think it's a great vehicle - but don't get it because of a 3rd seat use, other vehicles are probably more useful for 3rd seat. Personally, I never have a need for the 3rd seat and just keep it down for extra trunk space - not an issue for me. But it is a great vehicle with a great warranty, great support, and a great price point by comparison. Hope that helps. I use to work for one of the popular car brands (National HQ) that everyone seems to think is trouble free. Although they are a great company and produce a great product, their product is not really that much more trouble free than any other - some companies are just quicker and identifying and fixing product concerns and that makes them appear more reliable than other brands. In reality, behind that scene, there are usually a mountain of customer vehicle concerns they are addressing to resolve before the public sees it on their end...

We ended up spending about 12k for all the issues. A mechanic told me the engine was too small for it. Ours was first year with automatic. Isuzu ended up leaving the US market. If they had of stepped up we would of stayed with them. Instead they gave.us the middle finger. I would concerned with the small engine holding up. They should of gone with the six. The steer lane assist is super annoying as it beeps everytime it locks onto the lines and gives a green wheel. So when you turn on your turn signal to go over a lane it will disengage and then lock on in the next lane and ding. Then disengage and then lock on and ding again when switching back to the right lane. Coming from a Hyundai vehicle that you could engage the steer lane assist at any time without cruise control with no dinging, it's a HUGE downgrade and regret buying the car because of it.

Safety hazard if you ask me. Click the button? No use the side button? Drive, no don’t use the side button. Click up no click down, no click down twice no use the side button again. If I were in the market the test drive would have had me turning to the salesman to say “it’s a no from me, dog”.

    • @millerhighlights8465
      @millerhighlights8465  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This more of a touring class of vehicle and not really made for off-road as a true SUV would - so you are comparing apples to oranges. The CVT is more than adequate and reliable for this class of vehicle - which is highway/road driving with potential hazardous conditions. Since Outlanders have Mag Wheels, you would not take a mag wheel off road - you would destroy it. So if you require a True SUV, then yes a CVT is not appropriate for the off road SUV class - but that's not what the Outlander is.
