I have actually got a magnetic pick up tool and sometimes use it to magnetise the end of the pick I use to get the collets out but sometimes when things are tight they just stick to the surrounding bits. Just a fiddly and frustrating job at times !
There's a stash of those rings somewhere. The hardest part of any restoration is locating the bits. Or there's a Japanese bike engine out there with just the right size... Google time...
When lapping the valves did you start with a coarse compound and then switch over to a fine compound? Also, it was nice to see the lapping stick stay in place on the valves. On so many of the motorcycle engines I work on that are equipped with smaller and dome shaped valve heads it's difficult to keep the suction cup in place. Good video!
Hi Ron, I totally agree about the motorcycle valves, the 2cv ones are dead easy compared to bike stuff. I used fine as the seats were pretty good and it all cleaned up quickly which was surprising.
Enjoyable as always. I’ll be rebuilding my Dyane 602 engine over winter so I find your videos invaluable..thank you.
Good luck with the rebuild John, I am sure you will find it all good fun !
@@oldnutsgarage ..Thank you, looking forward to it!
One of those telescopic tools with a magnet on is good for picking out the collets. Lots of other uses too.

Hi Bill, I was worried about getting the rIngs, but it turned out to be easy in the end.
