Been looking forward to this. It is looking gorgeous. Shame to hide it under a bonnet. It would make a great motorcycle engine. Hey, I like slow motorcycles... Many thanks.
I’ve just bought a 1954 ripple bonnet with a 375cc engine Mark. There’s oil leaking from the rear of the Dynamo preventing charging(and making a mess) I’ll need to change the front crank seal, so need to get the Dynamo off. Is that Honda 754 removal tool 20 x 1.5 or 18 x 1.5. I did a search but it seems to bring up 2 different measurements depending on which site I look at. Good to see you got the crank play reduced. Some people have removed the 375cc engines and fitted your engine to lift the horse power a bit.
Hi Conor, the tool was M20 x 1.5 if I remember correctly. The only drawback with it is that is shorter than the original Citroen type so you may have to use a drift to tap it if the engine is in the car with front cowl on but that is not too awkward. 2cvXpert had a ripple on the front cover with this engine in a couple of yers ago, so probably a popular upgrade in France too. The crank play is a bodge but it worked so I was happy. Have fun with the Ripple !
Thank You for the crossover reference of the Dynamo removal tool, that is quite the savings. On the crank, I agree that with as little wear was seen a slight tap to adjust the end play was worth the try, does it not have sludge ports to check and clean? Thank You for sharing.
Another very informative video, thank you. I’m impressed with how clean you get the casings etc, what solution do you use? Also if I may, what’s the name of the liquid gasket you use and is it available in the UK? Many thanks, John
I use Comma Hyper Clean John and lots of elbow grease, I have found it to be the best degreaser by far. The liquid gasket is Gasgacinch, not widely available as it is American but pops up on Ebay from time to time, but if you are tempted ask the seller what the sell by date is on the tin before you part with your cash.
I usually get stuck in, then check for any stubborn bits, they are usually in the edges of the casings, scratch them out, then redo. If things are really dirty I will leave them to soak for a few hours. Cheap castings ( not 2cv ) can change colour if left in contact too long with some degreasers.

Slow indeed, 21horses and heavy but with decent torque so maybe Enfield 350 speed ?

Cheers Mark. It will be slow fun! 9bhp is not going to cause any neck jerking issues anyway🤣

Yeah I thought it worth a go Max. There are no sludge traps on the crank, Citroen wanted them swapped whole when they wore out.

@@oldnutsgarage ..thanks for the info. Do you leave the casings to soak overnight or just get stuck in with the brush?
