I just started a new position 3 weeks ago and received another job offer today. The salary is $5k more yearly, I want to stay in my current new role that I started 3 weeks ago. What do you recommend I do? Can I use this to get more money?
My advice on this is view your options cautiously as you don't want to hurt a relationship with your new employer if they perceive you as being greedy or a flight risk to another organization. If you really want to stay in the current role there is a reason for it (i.e. type of work, great employer, work/life balance, benefits etc.). Although $5000 is a lot of money, it may not have as much weight when you consider what you are gaining in totality from your current employer. If $5000 is a deal breaker for you, then make sure approach it professionally with your ask to renegotiate your salary. The old saying "you never know unless you ask" is very relevant here. Some employers may say yes while others the answer will be "no." If you want make the ask, simply approach your manager/HR and say "I've just received another offer. I'm really enjoying my role in this organization and want to stay. The difference in salary is $5000. Are you able to match this offer?" If the answer is yes, hooray!!! You are now $5000 richer. 😀 If the answer is no, then you will have to think about if you want to stay or go. But remember, keep it polite and professional. You may not get what you want so be prepared for that! Please let me know what you decide. All the best.
I have two job offers in hand and the salary difference is just 5k per year, One job is fully remote and other one is onsite (i need to travel 120 km on daily basis approx. 2 and half hour in total). The remote one is paying 5K less than the onsite role both roles are Senior Software Engineer . How can negotiate the remote one to increase amount to make them equal in terms of payment also i am bit confuse between which one to choose. FYI i am also expecting 3rd job offer soon which is paying me 15K more yearly but that's a kind of Service provider company to their client so once their client project is done i am worried about job security in this role so even if they offer i will reject them. For me Job Security is the most important thing currently as i was effected by mass layoff in my previous company. Please suggest me what should i need to do in this case ?
Thank you for the comment, you have some great questions, so I will address each one. Yes you can negotiate with the lower offer. Simply, ask if there is room to negotiate and have a salary in mind. Make sure your ask is based on reasonable market research in terms of similar salaries offered. Also make sure you attached it to the skills and experience you bring to the role. There is no harm in asking as the worse they are going to say is "no room to negotiate." The offer that is $5k more in my mind is not worth the commute. Traveling 120 km daily will cost you in gas and car maintenance which could eclipse $5k. Also you have to ask what is your time worth? 2+ hour of commuting is a huge commitment for an additional $5k. My advice would be to explore increasing the offer from the remote job. If they say no increase then you can decide what is more important to you. Please let me know what you decide! 😀
@@clarkglassford9200 Thank you for great advice ! i will try this right away to bring low ball offer to at least reach to an equal level. You're right i can spend that 2 hours to some productive work rather than just wasting time in traffic. it's also adds up gas , maintenance and insurance cost. which is not worth just for 5K of raise. I will let you know about the update soon
this was great in helping me make my decision
Thank you so much for commenting and I am glad it helped you! 😀
@@clarkglassford9200 I would like to email or message just for a little more insight is that ok?
