I saw this feller in a small club in cologne 2 times..! He appears to me like he is the most normal person ever.. but I knew.. this is the holy grail of my musical dreams.. sitting a few meters away! Man.. I still dream of these moments for the rest of my life!! He's the real influencer.. ladies and gents! God bless.. Mr. Wilder!!
the worst thing that happened to depeche mode was alan's departure and in my opinion martin destroyed the claw that the band with alan had and that everyone worked hard for together
agreed, only exception being "ultra", which still sounds liek an album they could have done together (maybe they started when he was still in) after thtat just a mess of noises
In 2011 Alan mixed "In Chains" and turned the band from "Demo Mode" to Depeche Mode again. Thank you Mr. Wilder for so many years of hapiness. You were a key part in dM´s best years
When I see Alan, I measure how much he missed to dM. Though the band has kept on doing some good albums, I deeply think its soul and style disappeared after SOFAD. As a keyboard player and drummer, his contribution to the sound of dM would have been incredible. A French listener since 87 ;-)
Oh my gosh such a nice guy. Watching interviews with Alan he is only really animated when talking about or playing music. A true musician...one who it seems was unappreciated by the rest of the band. How could they have let him go? SMFH.
Anyone who tells you that about DM might not quite “get it”. It’s ok to relive and hope as long we’re all still here…I miss this music, too. And you’re right: we were lucky😊
DM Mode’s most creative period was due to Martin Gore’s songwriting, Dave Gahan’s vocals, and from 1982-1995 with Alan Wilder’s skills as a musician, arranger and producer. Alan deserves credit for all his contributions during period, but without Gore and Gahan no one would know who Alan was.
yes, we know... Recoil - not a big fan. I love(d) Alan, I'd still love to see him back in the band. However, I know that DM could not exist without Martin's music and Dave's frontman act, while it DID/DOES live without Alan and, now, Fletch.
You do know they got the industrial side from a previous einsturzende neubauten session that had the sounds still loaded , the neubauten sounds were all over some great reward .
Still to this day I totally miss Alan in DM. Because he was classically trained he bought more to the 'Mode, in particular BC. MFTM, V and SOFAD. We miss you Alan. PS. And I have all his Recoil stuff. An absolute fkn genius.
What Alan did with I Want You Now is yet another example of how much of an influence he had on all of their best music. Him leaving was like taking all the bacon out of a cheeseburger. The Devotional Tour version of Everything Counts is still the hardest track in that whole set 🔥🔥
As we can see he's the real master of all the unforgettable sounds which help a lot to make this music so special and which we love to hear in these first 10+ years of Depeche Mode to this day.
I reckon he probably did quite well in those yearly Smash Hits polls for 'heartthrob of the year' most likely 4th behind John Taylor, Morten Harket and Mark Shaw😂...and that's simply an observation from a straight guy🤔
When I was a teenager I used to go to the music store and try the Emax over and over again to play DM songs. This is the best video I've seen in TH-cam, period. Thank you !!!
It is priceless to see you Alan playing the emulator. I come to this video over and over with the time to enjoy seeing you remembering your riffs... "If you want", by the way, the best of your songs, and the best of DM too. Thanks for your work at DM Alan. Since you lest nothing was the same.
I was one of the last concerts with you in Berlin on June 16, 1993. Great performance and the end of DM withoiut you. You are The best. Regards. Your In Chains mix is the best. And swomebody in london.Beautiful.
+Cristina his other project he was working on, Recoil, he went with his instinct going to recoil. they were both coming up at the same time, he had to make a choice he couldn't be in 2 bands at the same time. Hope that answers your question.
He didn't think he was appreciated after all the work he did for the devotional tour and felt he wasn't getting any deserved recognition working in the studio producing and playing as a member of the band. Recoil didn't really have any bearing on his decision to leave DM.
If you watch the making of the album from 1985, the boys are all in the studio, then suddenly Martin and Dave decide to go on holiday, leaving Alan to finish the rest of the album on his own. Plus Fletch and him got into physical fights backstage, according to Dave. It's no wonder he left, really.
great video and demonstration. What a treat it would be to have that keyboard at your house. I would spend hours playing it. I whole heartedly agree with many of the comments here, that Alan has such a great ear for how songs should be structured, melodies, and excellent rhythm and all combined that make the songs more impactful. I grew up listening to Depeche Mode since 1986 and after Alan left...the music just didnt have the same impact.
Как здорово, что есть возможность увидеть и услышать такие видео, прикоснуться к истории, в детстве можно было только мечтать о таком видео! Спасибо огромное за видео!
He was the genius behind their hits. They were never the same afterwards and there’s some diehard fans that love them like it or not, but he made them amazing and then and there’s some diehard fans that he left. I think he was pushed out a talented, talented man stupid absolutely stupid of them to lose him.
Heavens... I feel them! Danke Alan. Thanks Alan, you have delivered more than your best for your final work for dM, especially with IYR, including the video for the single, I also think that Anton has slowly "goodbye", too... with his own, personal, masterpiece!!
I love him (Alan, the gorgeous and talented musician), but I couldn't kneel on a wooden floor like that, or any surface, my knees are rickety and I am 10 years younger than him!! He must be healthy to be able to do that!! (And what on earth is Martin Gore wearing in that clip?). Please come back to the music industry, Alan.
It’s so cool to see that I’m not the only one who doesn’t know in what key I wrote a certain song 😂I tend to know covers a hell of a lot better than my own stuff. This man was the hard of the sound of DM!
Alan Wizard Wilder. Manos mágicas. Le dió majestuosidad a las creaciones de G♡RE. Fué la época de oro de la banda. Se fué.No lo lloren .Crezcan.Soltar..!
These videos make me so sad. DM without Alan feels like a totally different band, and not in a good way. They should have fought to keep him, but that was never going to happen with Martin and Fletch calling the shots. I'm glad that the Hall of Fame used a picture from 1989 that included Alan. Predictably, the band used a modern image on their own Facebook, but I'm happy that the official Hall of Fame picture is of the four of them - including Alan.
I am not worthy but what I wouldn’t give to hang out with Alan and learn! And I’m not gonna lie, I would love to have THAT Emax II with all those sounds!!
This is heartbreaking to watch. WIlder, cut out of DM and they languish without his technical wizzardry. The clip at 7.40 explaining his trip hop version of 'I want you now' using a pitched-down riff from 'Walking in my shoes' - fans can now witness the problem with Depeche since he left in 1994.

That remix is the best produced thing they’ve released since Alan’s departure and truly elevated that song.
@@iamcarlosfiveApart from the fact it was a million times better than the original

Alan - the "missing piece" of dm
Alan Wilder, the sound of Depeche Mode during 13 years ! As a fan of DM, I miss him a lot !
Don't we all 😂
Me too bro 😢 Depeche mode its not the same without him
His dark atmosphere and sounds are greatly missed
He was the sound of Depeche Mode
Can we please have more of this?? You’ll never know how much your music has shaped our hearts!
I'm not crying, i just have Alan Wilder in my eyes
Alan was the coolest member of the band brilliant with synths
Yes.
Second coolest. Dave Gahan is a Rock God.
Taking for granted by the others and no wonder he left. Their loss

Finally someone's who's being very realistic about Wilder's role in the band and not treating him like some sort of demigod. Respect to you, sir.

Dear Alan, YOU and Depeche Mode are amazing! It was sad, that you leave the band. Thank you for the music!
I could watch this over and over again. Such a great musician and lovely person.
The musical genius behind DM's hit songs.
Quite literally the sounds of my youth, at his fingertips. Phenomenal...♥️🌹♥️
what a sound bloke! no ego, just seems really happy to share his stories and knowledge from the past!
This is the equivalent of synth pop’s “Jimi Hendrix” breaking down his guitar parts and gear. Love it
true
I swear to god, after all these years, he’s still got it!
Oh, Uncle Alan, history will never forget you. You have created the greatest
still miss you Alan

The actual architectI of the industrial sound of Depeche in the early álbums of the band; mágic and powerful; GREAT!
You do know they got the industrial side from a previous einsturzende neubauten session that had the sounds still loaded , the neubauten sounds were all over some great reward .
I would love so much a tour with Alan on the keyboards, and no drummer, just the synths, and Martin's Guitar riffs.
Still to this day I totally miss Alan in DM. Because he was classically trained he bought more to the 'Mode, in particular BC. MFTM, V and SOFAD. We miss you Alan. PS. And I have all his Recoil stuff. An absolute fkn genius.
