i know everyone wants Alan to return to Depeche Mode but if you watched the 1993 SOFD Album making documentary, you understand why Alan left and why he's never coming back. For him to say "Something broke in me" during the studio sessions, it's a tiny glimpse into how horrible and disassociated the band were from each other. I didn't grow up knowing the band as individuals, plus I was born in 1998 and my introduction to Depeche was through the radio and my parents, but after becoming more and more curious about their history and delving deeper into their music catalogue-deeper than my parents had, I'm relieved Alan prioritized his health. But again that's just my opinion :)
He should have stuck it out. Martin and Dave recovered. Sucks that he couldn't "not sweat it". Big mistake for leaving DM it cost him money and his fans music. I hope he comes back. But very doubtful. What would be do? They're doing fine without him. Plus if he comes back he would have to learn all their new songs. It'll be very different and cause lots of trouble for all the others involved. If he does come back they may want to pay him as a hired musician not as a full blooded member. For Alan to see Andrew Fletcher making more money than he he wouldn't like it. Also in touring Alan working and sweating on stage while Andrew Fletcher just hitting one or two key on a basic keyboard would not be cool. I'm trying to start something up, aren't I? :)
Try working/living with a druggie, alcoholic & manic depressive...now extract a masterpiece album out of them. The toxic environment or you can put it as a form of f***ing hell (back in the SOFAD days) broke him. Even Flood was in tears. The shit he went through while staying true to his craft then having to f***ing tour with them for ages, I’d go mental. Jesus, money or not, the guy’s been punished enough. He made the right decision to save his sanity. When he appeared for “Somebody” you can tell he missed the DM fanfare. Would be nice to see him on stage for a special reunion with Fletch & him far, far apart. Just hope he managed to get financially stable with this auction. He will ALWAYS be my favourite DM member.

@@Rondo2ooo That's a valid point, and more generally, while Alan's departure was caused in part by poor working conditions and friction, there was no lingering personal animosity between any of the members. Depeche Mode have always been a group of nice guys (including Vince--maybe he needed a couple of years to mellow out, but he's a really nice, good person, like the others). They tended to get on each other's nerves while working, but still liked each other as people. It happens. For example, I get along great with my mom, but I can't work with her on anything--we end up arguing over how to do everything and taking longer than if we had done it by ourselves. In contrast, I argue with my sister too much (not frequently, but still too much, as we have very different perspectives) about petty things (we both contribute to that), but when we work together on a project, even a difficult one, it always gets done quickly and smoothly, because we each know what the other is better at, and we trust the other to do a good job. Depeche Mode are like my mom and me--they like each other as people, but working together is like a living hell! 😄 With many other bands, sadly there is some real personal hatred and deep disrespect involved, and that's something different entirely. Look at Roger Waters and David Gilmour of Pink Floyd. Yeesh! Imagine if Martin, whose role most closely matches that of Waters, were to say what Waters has said about Gilmour and the others: that only the songwriter really matters, and everyone else is pretty much interchangeable and contributes nothing of value. Maybe Martin didn't show enough appreciation for or care enough about what Alan did for the band, which hurt Alan, but for his part, at least Martin let Alan do what he would with Martin's songs, and he never and would never diss Alan (or anyone else) like Waters has done. Imagine if Martin were to say to Dave: "Anyone can sing. I can sing. My songs are what made Depeche Mode, and I don't need you or anyone else!" Admittedly, shortly after Alan's departure, the band got a bit defensive in response to Alan's public criticism, and kind of minimized his contributions, but that was a natural thing to do when people, including fans, were questioning whether the band were finished. They were still sore from Alan's departure (kind of felt abandoned like when Vince left), and had to convince the public that they were still Depeche Mode (I personally think the band was permanently diminished, though, for what it's worth). At least they would walk that kind of talk back later and admit that they missed Alan's contributions. After all, they really are nice guys--only humans, but likable ones.

He hadn't used those tools for years by then, anyway, which is equally sad. He didn't even know if they still worked, so they were all in storage. And what's more, he sold nearly everything in this one auction. I'm not even sure what he has left! Alan sold all of his hardware samplers, and nearly all of his synths and other keyboard instruments, like his Wurlitzer electric piano. He had owned some of these since before he joined Depeche Mode, including the Wurlitzer, the Minimoog, and the Wasp, so it feels as though he has given up on music altogether, not just letting go of Depeche Mode stuff (I didn't say he did, it just feels like he did). The only synth that Alan has left, that I know of, is his EMS VCS 3 Synthi. He also still has his Bösendorfer grand piano after selling his Steinway. Aside from any software plugins (virtual instruments), are those the only two instruments he has left? At least he kept something. Now compare what he has to Martin's home studio or Vince's. No one needs that many synths, but what a contrast!

Folks we need to move on. But I hope something changes and they can reconcile now that Fletcher is in the afterlife.
te extrañamos en DM!
Damn, I wish Alan would get back with dm. Its clear to me just how much is missing from them.
Аллан ты самый лучший, без тебе не было бы DM!
Алексей МАНВАЛ А из-за чего он ушёл, и кто организатор ДМ?
Depeche Mode : Master and servant
Alan Wilder : Master of Genius...
I still prey that Alan will produce and engineer the next DM Album 🤞
Eres el mejor!!!! Te extraño mucho ojala algun dia pueda verte
Alan Wilder reminds me a bit of Danny Elfman.
Both are great in their areas. I love them ❤
Class! Alan Wilder(RECOIL)!
Awesome! Omg...
EL ALMA DE DEPECHE MODE SIN DUDA !!
allan, im brazilian and i d like to see you so good. i dont have oportunities to see you any my favorite band depeche moode but who knos one day
Genious simply Genious.!!!
Depeche Mode without Alan Wilder is like a man walking on crutches. Sure the person can walk… but not very good and everyone can see it. Without Alan it is just half a band… And that can be heard too… I just wish the early 90s would have been kinder to the Bandmembers… I wonder where they would be now?
probably made more money from the DM reunion than from the auction ... it seems a shame.
(i wanted some of those "keyboards" =)
Once you’re gone you’re gone. Unless you’re Nigel Tufnell, then you can come back.
O, Allan... you're looking at Martin again, or at the audience, or smiling at the camera. And you play. I noticed this in the video a long time ago. I was shocked. No matter how hard I tried, I didn’t learn how to do it. Or Martin wasn't near the synthesizer.😂😂 No, you're just a genius.🎹🎼🫶
Alan I need you,I want you in DM.WHY?I LOVE YOU.
Emulator is easy to use if you are a musical genius like Alan Wilder
This is about the time when inthe is buffalo NY were I live I was 10yrs old listening to music and movies and really in starting getting into things being 10 I believe David is the only one alive in this video I am watching r.i.p boys
30 years old Violator ..no way!😮
I know. Time flies. Look 9 months passed since your post.
alan and martin were a perfect couple for DM, but...
I think he was scared of so much success
I think Alan left the band not for scared of success, he did it for lack of acknowlegdment. He was tired of the others at the end.
I love vinyl. That’s what I would buy.
Alan was a goth all along! :)
Very cool vids, I'd be interested to see how much all this went for.
Vuelve a la banda Alan!!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Una grande persona
Amazing man. thanks for sharing.
Mi Alan siempre serás de depeche aunque ya no estés en el grupo
solo alan is awesome!
Alan, why did you have to leave DM....? It was the biggest with you (and Andy)....
Este cara sem dúvida é genial parabéns

Алан вывел звучание DM на 30 лет вперёд!
