In the beginning, we get to see Mando being very protective of the child when it's threatened; the frog lady is also willing to go to any length for her eggs, and the spider freaks out when the child eats her offspring. And, as a kind of mirror - as threatening and vile as those bounty hunters and spiders appear to the viewer, we get to see that to the spiders and the eggs, Baby Yoda is THE big threat predator.

Those ice spiders are called Krykna and are, in fact, a bit of a mistake on Mandalorian part as it messes up with the established lore. Those spiders live on warm arid planet Atollon, they are out of their setting on an ice world, and they are highly resistant to blaster fire, even from starfighters let alone hand held blasters. I was actually very surprised that they added them on this Hoth-like setting and make them very squishy - because in the previous episode Krayt Dragon was quite faithfully represented.

It was a great episode but I was frustrated with The Child for consistently eating the eggs lol. Even after everything with the spiders and seeing the frog lady clearly treating the eggs like her children... he still eats one at the end lol.
Although that really does cement that the child is just a kid with no true concept of right vs wrong yet. So props to them on emphasizing that in this episode. Did not expect the Alien/horror vibe from it. It really started getting nerve wracking once they boarded the ship. Great episode but I do think Chapter 9 is better

Because it became a moto with Resistance, later New Republic fighters. He did not have to know anything about Jedi or Force, just to hear them greet each other that way. For example, imagine yourself, never heard about or seen a Nazi. And at one point, you hear some people greet each other with "Sieg Heil". You don't know what it really means, but, that is how they great each other, you just repeat to blend in, not attract attention and gtfo. Same with him - in his travels he might have heard "May the Force be with you" been used by the Republic fighters and he just used it when meeting with them.

Tales of the Jedi who beat the Emperor and destroyed the first Death Star would have been huge among the Rebellion. You could be right, but I think its an oversight personally. I don't believe that he wouldn't have heard of Jedi in the first place. A) he was literally orphaned during the Clone Wars B) the Jedi were only wiped out less than 30 years ago (and a major event), that's like someone today not knowing anything about 9/11 or the Moon landings. This IS some weird recurring theme about the... idk cannibalization/consumption of the Young. Like in season 1, we start off the theme with the Mudhorn egg (well I mean we start it off by seeing the lizard monkey getting spit-roasted) but with the Jawas and the mudhorn, and how everyone who saw The Child would ask a variation of 2-3 questions which is "Is that a pet?," "is that your kid? or _"Is that exotic food/livestock?"_ like The Mandalorian was just carrying around a freaking *chicken or lobster!* _A LOT of people asked if Baby Yoda was food._
I figured that maybe it has to do with themes that this side of the galaxy, the dark and gritty underbelly, that whether you're "good" or "bad," the reality is that it's a Dog-Eat-Dog existence and everyone knows it. Children aren't safe, like old folktales like you said; Baba Yaga. Be careful in the woods, or you're gonna be eaten.

The Mandalorian is like an open world RPG when you ignore the main campaign and just do side quests. You get our fetch quest, your kill quests. You help random folk, you get loot, you kill giant spiders. It also means the story crawls to a halt.
We're in season 2 and it still like a loosely connected series of side stories with an over reliance on easter eggs to keep things going. It was fine for the first season, but now it's a little old.
We got to know Mando throughout season 1, we got to love Baby Yoda from the first second we laid eyes on that cute little creature, so it's more than time for the story to focus on them. You know, an actual story! We already got the introduction, now let's see some development.

To start off a brand new season we've now had two, "Do this thing and you'll find a mandalorian" episodes with core plots that amount to "Help this person do x, they'll give you what you want. Here's a big problem mando has to solve while helping. Ok, problem solved. Still no second mandalorian though. End of episode." Just feels like filler more than anything and with the characters they plan on introducing and the connection mando and the child will be having to the galaxy at large, it feels like they're wasting a lot of time that could've been spent with Ahsoka or Boba.

Theory: Baby Yoda ate the eggs to protect them since he could sense the incubator was going to eventually die. Then in the next episode the incubator will somehow get destroyed, but Baby Yoda will regurgitate the ones he swallowed, saving the species :)

@@saturncrush Why else would they make Baby Yoda out of character so suddenly? A baby-eating demon? That wouldn’t fit his brand. I think they’re trying to subvert expectations by making us think he’s eating them, and next episode we find out it was just in fact an instinct to save them. Then everybody would think he’s cute again, which is on brand. He’s been shown to be self-aware in situations and empathetic towards other life forms before. Why wouldn’t he be now? It’s either that or just off writing, which I doubt

@@LeGoldenWaffle I certainly hope that is the case. It would not make sense for them not to do it....but for some reason Faloni’s pacing and story structure has not translated fully into live action. I don’t know if it is interference in anyway by the higher ups, but something seems off. I have enjoyed the Show being a breathe of fresh air from the lack of quality control the IP has gotten with the films as they did not feel like Star Wars. This show does....it appears that the powers that be are running toward this little show throwing the kitchen sink at it instead of it not being an organic process. I could be wrong. We will see.

No he is showing that the species is naturally force sensitive and also "savage." Baby Yoda is simply responding to instinctual drives, there is very little "parenting" occuring. Also, most the characters, so far, respond to BY like he is an animal/pet, they do not see if as humanoid.
