Cool story on a cool bug… it’ll be a sweet project.
Love the friendly banter back and forth, sounds like my wife and I 😂

58-59 beetles are amazing cars-36hp motor, oval era steering wheel, unique paint options (metallic and non-metallic), 2-year bespoke interiors. It’s worth the effort to restore. As for front signals they were not stock from the factory on euro cars-front fenders were bare. Very cool car. FYI CIP1 / BBT Silverweld front fenders match the originals in every way. Sit down though when you look at the price! 😂

I know right? I wanted a 59 the most, but I ended up with a 62 which I am committed to. I just finished it after 3 years, and it's a driver!

I wonder if the birth certificate would show more information on this bug. Too bad the certificates are expensive, and take a long time to get.

Just seeing this now and it's one of the best yet! I want to become a Volkswagen Archeologist. And what a labor of love. You guys are great together. Thanks for this. I learned a lot and as a history geek, well, I bow to your collective knowledge base. Astounding!!

@@wickedwerks Perfect!! Buried in bondo, I never would have imagined. And the Swiss connection. It's as if the little car had to disguise itself like a Cold War spy to get into the United States. Rachel has a great style for unfolding the story. Long live semaphores!!

Contribution: The history of Volkswagen Brazil began on March 23, 1953, in a warehouse on Rua do Manifesto, in the Ipiranga neighborhood of São Paulo. From there, the first Beetle units came out, assembled with parts imported from Germany and only 12 employees.
Production with national (Brazilian parts) began on September 2, 1957, when the first model of the brand manufactured in the country left the assembly line at the factory (The company's largest factory outside of Wolfsburg DE) in São Bernardo do Campo (SP): it was the Kombi, which had 50% of its parts and components made in the country .
In general numbers, Volkswagen do Brasil has already had 33 different product lines, more than 24 million units produced and over 12.5 million engines built in national soil.

Guten Tag from Germany. Love to see you working on this nice car! Keep up the good work. I had a 59 bug myself, restored it from 1991 to 1994 and drove it for almost 5 years. If you need some translation work, I offer you to do so. Gerold

I’d assume the car wasn’t grey market and was brought in by a service member, given the 64 lights it probably didn’t come over until after that. Also the bondo over the semaphores would have been done by a previous owner before a paint job not when coming into the port. Color could be Kalahari beige instead of mignonette but tough to tell over this video. Cool car though definitely worth ordering a birth certificate for it.

I'm working on a 59 Deluxe myself same year as I was born...no semaphore turn signals are on my car however and was surprised to find transmission was not the early style with all the bolts down the middle of the non syncro style... building a off road toy with quick release everything possible as well as access panels for maintenance purpose.. many people think that's a crime..but I don't follow rules anyway and it's mine.. will be liquidating many stock items... when I'm done... keeping snowflakes but will LED Them..

get Free ALL from O' Reily's and disperse it like holy water., it will help you unbolt/unscrew, take it apart wtih minimal fastener damage..... I have a 59 same owner 59, the front fenders still have the conduit tubes...and BTW, I am just down the turnpike, same state...hope to meet you in 2023.
