I love your videos, and general information. I first found you about a year ago when I first discovered obsidian. And over the last year, I've been changing my obisidian vaults more times than I'd like to count, and frankly have too many individual vaults.
Definitively the best tool, that made me give up Notion, Apple Notes and all the others. Thank you very much Zsolt for that great work! The possibility to link excalidraw drawing that all markdown notes, the flexibility of that tool and its incredible features are really powerful and efficient, if you have patience to learn and master them ! None of the paid tools offer even part of what Obsidian-Excalidraw can do.

You can use different modifier key combinations. Go to plugin settings, click "Excalidraw appearance and behavior", then scroll down and select "Link Click and Drag&Drop Modifier Keys", then select "Link click behavior", and under "Open in current window" configure the key combination. I could write a long note about why the current setting is the way it is... long story short, for the modifier key to work in Excalidraw when clicking an element, it must include the CTRL key... Happy experimentation!
Hello Zsolt! Thank you for all your helpful content. I'm crossing my fingers that I'll be able to afford your next workshop. I have a quick question in the meantime. Do you have any troubleshooting pointers for the following situation? In my Obsidian, my excalidraw drawing save to an SVG file every so often unprompted -- I detect it immediately when I open a different excalidraw drawing. The one I was just working on becomes saved additionally as an SVG. I hope I described that clearly enough. I looked unsuccessfully for a switch to toggle it off in settings. In plugin settings go to "Embedding Excalidraw into your Notes and Exporting", then select "Export Settings", then click "Auto-export Settings" and turn off "Auto-export SVG". If this is turned off, and the event is still happening, then check your drawing's document properties. Do you by any chance have the "excalidraw-autoexport: svg" fronmatter property? if yes, remove it. If these don't help, then please open an issue on GitHub and share screenshots of your document properties and the mentioned settings section so I can take a look. github.com/zsviczian/obsidian-excalidraw-plugin/issues
I can't see any mention of Taskbone or OCR under "Miscellaneous Features" in the Excalidraw settings? Is this feature not available anymore or am I just tired and can't find where to enable it..? Hello Zsolt, thank you so much for your beautiful work! Regarding the auto-save function (on desktop) i wanted to say that every time my drawing is saved (for example every 15 seconds) the text that i write with a stylus is interrupted while the saving process takes place (Windows 11, ASUS ROG Flow x16, microsoft pen). So every 15 seconds one would have to erase a crippled line/letter and write it again. Sorry for bad english, just wanted to mention this, maybe there's a solution. Anyways a fantastic plugin that helps me so much with studying :)
That sounds links a bug as autosave should wait until you are idle and save then. I'll try to replicate and solve... However, under save settings in plugin settings you can set a less frequent autosave. That might help a little
Not covered in the video, but there are command palette actions that let you create and immediately embed a drawing into your note. Type "Create embed" in the command palette search (CTRL+P).

I do not have the "copy markdown link" option in the context menu. I do have the ability to set a hotkey for it, but I'd like to have it show up in the menu possible!

In my current configuration of the Scalidraw Plugin I do not find these functionalities available, do I have to make a subscription payment to download and activate them?

I recommend starting with the very basics and building from there. Hi, I’ve just discovered this channel. To be honnest, i did not realized the potential of Obsidian when i tried it a few month ago and keep using TheBrain. I see now how powerfull it is. One question however: I’m stuck trying to reproduce what is shown on this video because I do not have the icons on the right (the pizza for example) in the excaliraw windows in Obsidian. In short: no. You can export it as an image and share that. Or you can copy/paste your drawing to excalidraw.com and save the drawing to a link (but the free Excalidraw service will only support drawings smaller than 1MB including all embeds). When exporting to an images you can select to embed the scene, this means people can drop the image to Excalidraw and it will convert into an editable drawing. Is it possible to add another Excalidraw file inside Excalidraw? As far as I know, you can only import with "As Image", and I would like to import as "as embedded" so that I can make changes to this other Excalidraw file
Correct. You cannot edit in place... But you can always open it in another tab, make changes, and the changes are going to take effect everywhere where the file has been added.
Ayt, thank you... Just happened to place note cards and mind maps ahead before in Canvas, as I was not versed yet in Excalidraw. Now, I felt like I have to re-do it again. I just wondered if it's possible... 😅

local video or video from the web? for local, use the Insert Any File option or use the Web Embed tool from the more tools dropdown (More tools is the menu that has the AI badge) if it is a youtube video, then simply copy the embed link to the clipboard and paste it to Excalidraw.
There isn't. Most features should work on Mobile, apart from those that access Obsidian features not available on mobile: - drag and drop - access to the file structure outside of the Vault - popout windows ... the rest should work.

@@khanhhuyen8630 You may want to try the "convert selected text elements to sticky notes" script. This script also comes with settings, you can set the background color and the border color of the sticky note to transparent and thus wrap text without the look & feel of a sticky note.
Whenever I click a text element, and then right-click and choose the 'convert to file...' function, the resulting text of the element becomes tiny and blurry. How can I retain the look and feel of a text element even AFTER having converted it to a file please? Thanks.
I tried it just now. It seems to work as expected on my side. Please open an issue here and include a few screenshots so I understand what you are seeing. github.com/zsviczian/obsidian-excalidraw-plugin/issues When you convert a text element to a file, the look and feel will inevitably change. The text element will become a markdown embed. The sizing of the embedded element is the standard size, because 1) typically text elements are smaller, thus having the embed resized to that size would render the embed unusable, and 2) because I make the assumption that the reason you are converting it to a file is to edit it and add markdown content to it.
@@VisualPKM But when you drag an existing note to an Excalidraw map, the resulting element IS to my expectations. But if you convert a text element (that does NOT exist as a note yet) to a note, the resuling element is different to how an existing note would appear! I will open open an issue in GitHub. I looked through the modifiers and did not see one to override this. But found I can use two fingers for right click on Mac instead. Would be good if I could override the ctrl click in the future but not critical.
Please fix the pen interface, the screen cursor is invisible when using a pen tablet, (Wacom). Every other tool displays a cursor, but not the pen. Mouse shows the cursor, but not when using a pen.
What virus scanner are you using? Could it be that your ISP (or corporate IT) depending on where you are trying to access the site from is applying a blanket blocking for .online websites. You can try this link, though this will redirect to the .online address as well. publish.obsidian.md/excalidraw Not much I can do, you can try accessing the site from a different ISP (e.g. from your phone).

I spent the longest time trying to find these features in Excalidraw on the web only to realize this isn't Excalidraw on the web.

In short: no.
You can export it as an image and share that. Or you can copy/paste your drawing to excalidraw.com and save the drawing to a link (but the free Excalidraw service will only support drawings smaller than 1MB including all embeds). When exporting to an images you can select to embed the scene, this means people can drop the image to Excalidraw and it will convert into an editable drawing.

Is it possible to add another Excalidraw file inside Excalidraw? As far as I know, you can only import with "As Image", and I would like to import as "as embedded" so that I can make changes to this other Excalidraw file
Correct. You cannot edit in place... But you can always open it in another tab, make changes, and the changes are going to take effect everywhere where the file has been added.

Export import is theoretically possible, but not implemented. This could be done as an Exvalidraw script.
Ayt, thank you... Just happened to place note cards and mind maps ahead before in Canvas, as I was not versed yet in Excalidraw. Now, I felt like I have to re-do it again. I just wondered if it's possible... 😅

i have problems when i try to put a video in my drawing. It doesn´t appear the video, just a link. I tried with ctrl, shift and alt but it doesn't work.
local video or video from the web?
for local, use the Insert Any File option or use the Web Embed tool from the more tools dropdown (More tools is the menu that has the AI badge)
if it is a youtube video, then simply copy the embed link to the clipboard and paste it to Excalidraw.
Pls, is there a compilation for what features are not available for mobile obsidian users?
There isn't. Most features should work on Mobile, apart from those that access Obsidian features not available on mobile:
- drag and drop
- access to the file structure outside of the Vault
- popout windows
... the rest should work.
In Obsidian, the Link works... but it open a new tab and jump to the linked element, is it possible to make it move to the linked element on the same drawing tab?

@@VisualPKM I added my language to spell check and it is partly solved. But I have another problem, I can't scale text paragraph as I do in One Note or Powerpoint, I have to add new line manually to change text block width.

@@khanhhuyen8630 You may want to try the "convert selected text elements to sticky notes" script. This script also comes with settings, you can set the background color and the border color of the sticky note to transparent and thus wrap text without the look & feel of a sticky note.
Whenever I click a text element, and then right-click and choose the 'convert to file...' function, the resulting text of the element becomes tiny and blurry. How can I retain the look and feel of a text element even AFTER having converted it to a file please? Thanks.

When you convert a text element to a file, the look and feel will inevitably change. The text element will become a markdown embed. The sizing of the embedded element is the standard size, because 1) typically text elements are smaller, thus having the embed resized to that size would render the embed unusable, and 2) because I make the assumption that the reason you are converting it to a file is to edit it and add markdown content to it.
@@VisualPKM But when you drag an existing note to an Excalidraw map, the resulting element IS to my expectations. But if you convert a text element (that does NOT exist as a note yet) to a note, the resuling element is different to how an existing note would appear! I will open open an issue in GitHub. @@VisualPKM Thanks Zsolt! Yes, in view mode on Obsidian Excalidraw. I saw another video of yours where you mention it is supposed to do that. I looked through the modifiers and did not see one to override this. But found I can use two fingers for right click on Mac instead. Would be good if I could override the ctrl click in the future but not critical.

Please fix the pen interface, the screen cursor is invisible when using a pen tablet, (Wacom). Every other tool displays a cursor, but not the pen. Mouse shows the cursor, but not when using a pen.
go to settings "Excalidraw Appearance and Behavior" and enable "Show (+) crosshair in pen mode.

Could it be that your ISP (or corporate IT) depending on where you are trying to access the site from is applying a blanket blocking for .online websites. You can try this link, though this will redirect to the .online address as well. publish.obsidian.md/excalidraw
