Rest in Peace Ray Stevenson.
The fact that he is not around to bask in all the acclaim he is receiving is just heartbreaking.
yeah thats very sad i see so many people giving him praise and i personally would have loved to see Baylan in much much more
Indeed
How did he pass 😮
@@DavidCastillo-ql1ln There's been no news released on it.
He can see it he may not be here but he can see it
I love how genuinely enraged Baylan seems to be when Shin is hurt by Ahsoka. Shows that he at least cares about his apprentice.
The scene shows how much they both care about their apprentices. Ahsoka chucks her with the force because she thinks Shin killed Sabine, then Baylin breaks down Ahsoka’s defense and gives her nowhere to go.
She tapped a little into the dark side I reckon with that choke and throw …
If there was a TV series for Baylan and Shin backstory, I would watch it
@@luthenrael4523maybe we could get a tales of the Jedi episode about them in season 2
@@calebf864One set of episodes for Baylan and another set for Cin Drallig and the Temple Guards
I love how Ahsoka's confidence disappears after the fight starts. She spent years obliterating everyone, so to finally face someone this powerful after Vader must have been a surprise.
Yep. I think that was the correct call too. Every duelist/Jedi will eventually meet someone who can either keep up with them or outright beat them.
Like in the clone wars, you see Anakin struggling but gaining more ground over count Dooku every time they fought until his eventual death in episode three
@@corpyhogan4433*Aunt May*
@@corpyhogan4433to be fair though, in the novelization I believe, Palpatine tells Dooku to let Anakin win. You are right though he does get better and better against Dooku everytime they fight.
@@corpyhogan4433 keep in mind Ahsoka only started losing after she burnt her hand. She was going toe to toe with Baylan using only one saber when we all know she prefers to dual wield in all her serious fights (like vs Vader)
Dude she got DESTROYED. It's amazing seeing one of these "boss girls" finally be put in her place.
I haven’t seen someone do lightsaber strikes this powerful and impactful since OT Vader.
Baylan is impressive.
Absolutely, he is very strong
Well it’s almost like he is using his lightsaber as a long sword
@@tariq-_-2882nah he's just using Form V and Form VII both predominantly aggressive forms that rely on strength and heavy strikes
Still not a patch on Vader! Vader was doing those powerful strikes one handed.
@@MR.ICE. Well yeah vader is vader
I like how Baylan's fighting style is reminiscent of both Vader (bulky fighter relying on raw strength for swinging and defense) and a bit of Maul (acrobatic and aggressive), 2 of Ahsoka's most competent opponents so far
I'm in love with how he knows he's so much bigger and physically stronger than most people so he incorporates it into his fighting style. He's still incredibly agile for his size too!
Thus is better suited as a cartoon. The seriousness and drama , sense of danger doesn't translate.
I never once felt any jeopardy for her at all.
Her whole look doesn't translate to a real flesh and blood character. It looks cosplay.
Dave Filoni is a massive Arthurian Legend fan, and Japanese film fan. It’s amazing to see Ashoka use almost every Samurai stance to try and beat him, and Baylan fighting like a knight with a claymore. It’s so well done.
@@kev30631
Look. I love Clone Wars and Rebels, but I've never really cared for their saber fights visually. They always had this weird janky look due to how much they moved around when they attacked.. All except Ahsoka vs. Maul. I like Ahsoka in animation more, but her show is fine in live action.
Looks kinda like Desann in master stance, from the Jedi outcast game lol
i doubt we will ever get knights of the old republic in live action, but lord baylon is as close as we will get
his apprentice heavily reminds me of Lana Beniko from SWTOR as well.

@@cykrypt1049facts 💯
I think its cool that Baylon also seems to read their minds/pick up on certain cues. When Ahsoka tells Sabine to destroy the map, it looks as though he understands that Ahsoka is worried she won't go through with it, so he presses his attack. And then his manipulation of Sabine is just incredible. Awesome villain.
Yeah. Note that he deactivates his lightsaber and talks Sabine down. This is very much the way that a Jedi is expected to negotiate.
@@MCSPARTAN501 do you think he's trying to restore the Order by using Thrawn? thats the feeling i get

@@avay8726 a chaos so great the new Republic might WANT a Jedi order maybe?
I love this too. It's pretty awesome to finally see a Jedi that was super attuned to persuasion powers and reading minds. I feel like Baylon was the master of such abilities back during the Republic days, and Kylo Ren might be the successor to the art.
I love whenever inquisitors do the spinny lightsaber move they always get merked
They'll never learn
Truly I don't know why they bother.
@@Darth_Xionn Because they're mainly trained to hunt weaker Jedi. Palps and Vader purposefully keep them weak and in constant competition with each other (to keep them in check). They also have those spinning sabers to intimidate and compensate for their poor/mediocre skill
I love how Baylan uses his physical strength to enhance his dueling skill. Most Jedi are more lean and acrobatic, but he's this naturally huge guy, so when he hits, he hits hard. Every blade connection must have rattled through Ahsoka's arms. And also, this is probably the first real opponent she's faced since Darth Vader. Most of the Inquisitors were half trained padawans or wash outs from the Order. But Baylan was probably a seasoned Jedi Knight, maybe even a Master.
We have seen so little of bim, but I already love him!

Can we appreciate how you can see the lightsaber forms here? And the power behind each blow, not just some showy spinny choreography. Well calculated, like a game of chess. Amazing fight.

Even as an ex-Jedi, Baylan puts the “knight” in Jedi Knight with every aspect of his character and design better than any other character I’ve seen in live action.
Agree
He duels like he's swinging a broadsword.
@@TheSecondAdam Form V
@@TheSecondAdamikr? It’s pretty awesome, his lightsaber looks like it’s longer than what we’re used to seeing so I think it’s pretty accurate.
I LOVE Baylan's fighting style. He's so fluid between offense and defense. He isn't particularly fast, but his timing is perfect. You can tell he's got a vast amount of experience. He's easily being made out to be one of Ahsoka's toughest foes. Behind only Maul and Vader.
Behind them? She curbed Maul and would've split Vader's skull if not for his mask. Meanwhile all she did to Baylan was dropkick him, which did nothing and is something he got up from immediately like Obi-Wan did when Anakin dropkicked him. And all of that isn't even keeping in mind that the Ahsoka we see here is far more experienced than the one that beat Maul and even the one that stalemated Vader. So all things considered, Baylan appears far more impressive than Vader and especially Maul.
Perfectly said about his style, he is not fast but accurate and has impeccable timing.
This great timing a bc swift footwork are characteristics of form II Makashi, which he seems to combine with the more physical form V Djem So and the aggressive form VII Juyo. He is like a combination of Dooku and Vader with some of Mauls aggressiveness
@@TheStraightestWhitest you really think she can beat vader your hilarious 😂
@@Humble421 Feats show she absolutely can. Ahsoka the White would low-mid diff Vader.
"It didn't need to come to this. But you know no other way." For some reason I freaking love that line!

That move is so simple, yet so cool
It's very Anakin!
Даже Асока охренела от силы удара
@@ccroftyep, its Form V
@@ReckArdo88I would say it’s a mixture of Form I and V because Baylan has some simple but also skillful attacks
I love how they are showing more of ahsokas acrobatic side in this episode. It’s what always made her saber style so fascinating to me! My fav series by far in Star Wars 😍
What y'all didn't notice is Baylon switched to djem so to defeat Ashoka and with her hand burnt she couldn't match the strength of Baylon swings
Ahsoka was able to defeat Maul, who was much more powerful and better skilled with a Saber. I honestly think Ahsoka let her emotions get the best of her.
Yeah you can literally see him beating her into submission with the Djem So falling avalanche technique. I thought that was cool. He fights how I imagine Darth Bane or Darth Malgus would fight in live action
@@paulg6527
Ahsoka was doing well until she burned her hand. It wasn't about emotions. It was about how she was focused more on stopping the retrieval of Thrawn over defeating Baylan.
@@Teknanam Ahsoka's focus was clouded by emotions. You see Baylan teasing her about her past, bringing up Anakin, scorning their "legacy of death and destruction". Baylan is the one with focused mind and purpose. Ahsoka was unbalanced.
@@Intreductor Yeah it mirrors what she said to Sabine during her training in episode 3, about how anger and frustration leads to power but unbalances you.
These fights actually looked like they were trying to kill each other, which was a nice change from some of the dance choreography fights we get.
And as they say in the martial arts world, styles make fights. Ahsoka's samurai style vs. Baylan's medieval knight, her agility vs. his strength made for one of the better SW fights.
True
Ahsoka wins thru skill and technique. She's not that strong. That's why inquisitors couldn't win because they try to outduel her. That's not going to happen. But she is vulnerable to very aggressive, stronger duelists with a lot of power that can batter her down and press into her.
@@TheSecondAdamBaylan its tier higher than Inquisitor. Since it seem he on a master level.
I love how little Baylen needs to move to dodge. It's a perfect compliment to how much power he puts into his blade, Saving energy where he needs to.
I love that Baylon fights like an old knight or samurai with stiff, precise blows. No movement wasted on flashy attacks, the man is a mountain with years of experience. Also I love the look he gives her when ashoka sees that Sabine is ok. Shows his realization that she isn't how he always imagined her to be.
This is what we need more of in Star Wars live action. Less skinny people doing acrobatics and flips and being flashy, more tanky folks with heavy swings who are large and imposing.
Don't get me wrong, I love Darth Maul and his acrobatic style, but when SO MANY combatants fight in a similar way, THIS style of fighting is such a breath of fresh air.
Baylan's strikes have so much power behind them. I love that Ahsoka kept switching fighting styles because he was so fierce.
Well said! I think that the "thing" with that style is that for many years you would associate it with Vader so maybe they tried other things with the rest of characters
I think you're correct on that. Dooku is the other exception. He's less acrobatic, but his fencing style CAN still be flashy.
But yeah, we absolutely need more heavy-hitting saber duelists. If he wasn't dead, I'd love to see more of Pong Krell fighting.
Don't worry. I'm sure they will have some high BMI land whale as a Jedi or Sith soon. You can already be stabbed with lightsabers multiple times and bounce right back. So why not a lumbering lump of lard who would get winded getting out of a chair irl?
I highly doubt Disney plans to canonize Beldorion the Hutt any time soon.
I love how Baylan fights like this swinging a zweihander or something, it's just so meaty in all his hits.
Baylan Skoll is such a powerful character, his aggressiveness is perfect, he doesn't let it get the better of him, and he still keeps such a calm and collected attitude in his fights with Ahsoka
I didn’t realize how big Baylon is. Pretty intimidating strikes
0:40 the moment Baylan goes full force pushing into his attack and the music ramps is actually insanely cool
Agreed. In my opinion this is where he is taking over the fight bit by bit.
The sound the sabers make as he forces hers into the ground. And the look in his eye. That says "I'm more powerful you, and your going to find out just how screwed you really are."
This fight was incredibly interesting! It was like watching a duel between a katana(Ahsoka) and a broadsword(Baylon) in lightsaber form.
I love how Baylon knows Ahsoka can't survive, but genuinely regrets that outcome having to come at his hands. It possibly shows that even a fallen Jedi can still be redeemed, and that even someone who has fallen can still respect others. Brilliant writing for his character. and RIP Ray....one hell of a final gift you gave us.
Amen indeed 🙌🏼 Godspeed Ray Stevenson, you packed the Star Wars mythos foe all eternity with your mind blowing lyrics brilliant performance.

Baylan fights like the late Lord Vader. Powerful swings, battering away at his opponent. And I love it. Sure, I love the more acrobatic fights, too, but this style has definitely been missed.
Once Ahsoka burned her hand and dueling with one hand she was done against Baylan. His attacks are way too strong.
Jedi who fought and survive the clone wars are just build differently. That's why Ahsoka's usual high confidence went away the moment they clash.
0:47 That spin swing is crazy.
Perfect Cinematography
This is the single greatest visualization of Djem So (Form V variant) we have seen in live action. Baylan is *clearly* as master of Djem So. His strikes are so powerful!
It will be hard to replace Ray he's just fit for this.
he most likely will be killed by ahsoka in a later episode.

The way they kept switching up forms while feeling each other out.... that was cool.
0:47 oof, when someone like Baylan gets mobile you know that's bad news.
That entire sequence of the fight was so dope
Amazing fight. It’s so refreshing to see a formidable villain for once. First, he shrew Ahsoka of balance with words and then capitalized on her injury to win a fight with overwhelming fighting style.
I feel that deciding factor in the next Asoka vs Baylon fight will be her “state of mind”.
Yooo truly love that medieval longsword combat style of baylan
Rest in peace Ray, youve done a greath performance
Bro his form 5 is impressive. Using his powerful strikes to his advantage n covering his blind spots with his foot work.
I loved how much like a samurai duel this battle was. It was more conservative in some ways than the choreography from the prequels, but when they did flourish their blades, it wasn't over-the-top; it helped build momentum into their swings. I loved the more heavy-handed dueling styles, too. Again, just like samurai, and it made me feel like I was watching Ghost of Tsushima meeting Star Wars.
The way Ahsoka halved that boulder Baylan threw at her was pure CINEMA 😍
I love how Baylan seems to be a form 5 practitioner like Anakin/Vader
Does Baylon remind anyone else of Dooku kind of? His philosophy about the conflict and the way he talks about Ahsoka, it almost reminds me of the way Dooku speaks to Obi-wan in their meeting in Attack of the Clones.
I love Baylan's fighting style. He really uses the lightsaber like a WEAPON, not a light baton, and you can tell he's putting real force into his blows.
Baylan was using form 5 which was strength based and about counter attacks
She doesn't even try to use her Shoto. She realizes this is no dance, it's a serious fight.
And Vader fight was a dance in rebels then?)
She's stronger with the shoto. Don't really understand why she didn't use it... but I guess she needed to lose the fight for storytelling
@@ccroft You saw how she couldnt defend against Baylan's attacks with just one hand on her saber. if she had sabers in both hands, he would just steamroll through her defense. Plus she was focused on on stealing the map rather than finishing the fight, since she dodges him to grab it. can't grab the map if both your hands are occupied.
I'm sure the next time they meet and fight, you'll see that she uses both sabers.
@@thegoose1005 Eh, I don't think it's about defense, she used her 2 sabers against Vader who assumably puts way more of a punch behind his swings. It's probably a mix of the map thing + losing to have a "learning/strengthening" arc. Can't wait for their next encounter, though! Love how they didn't show any of it in the trailers.
This scene made me so happy. It was so great seeing ahsoka FAIL MISSERABLY for once. I got so tired that she easily beat everyone she fought with. But to finally witness her confidence abandoning her, call me a madman but I enjoyed it completely. Plus Baylan is a master of the force and ahsoka have not even finished training yet it wouldn’t make sense for her to win.
she has lost so many times before. she lost to vader and other times. in this fight she literally would’ve won if she didn’t burn her hand
This weird narrative has to end. We have seen her fail plenty of times. It took one win over Maul for dudes like you to get your panties in a twist
Samurai vs Medieval Knight
perfection...
Now I'm really curious about Baylan's backstory. How did he survive Order 66, the Inquisitors, and the Galactic Civil War? Where was he the entire time?
I'm convinced at this point that nobody truly died in Order 66 with all the so called survivors Disney keeps making up.
@@DerrickRG91
There were 10,000 Jedi KNIGHTS before Order 66. That's a number that doesn't include Padawan. We are still in the double digits when it comes to known survivors and I think we are still under 50. There could be 100 survivors and Order 66 would still have a 99% extermination rate against Jedi if that 10,000 number was Jedi society as a whole instead of just Jedi Knights. But we're not even at 100 survivors and we know there way more than 10,000 Jedi when you include the non-knights.
I get that the effect of Order 66 would feel stronger if the survivors were just Obi-wan and Yoda. But it shouldn't be surprising that quite a few Jedi slipped through the cracks.
@@DerrickRG91 yet even Lucas said at one point that hundreds of Jedi would’ve survived, they just lost their centralised command and such. Order 66 did what it needed; got rid of the Jedi who would’ve been a threat to the new Empire. None of the survivors would be able to challenge Palpatine and none of them could group into a larger force without being noticed as a group of Jedi.
exactly. Even with Palpatine and the Empire's great reach and resources, they just wouldn't have been able to account for every single Jedi. It's pretty clear their plan was kill the figure heads + Council, obliterate the temple and then hunt for Jedi on other systems. It's likely that a lot of highly talented Padawans and some very powerful Knights were able to slip through the cracks, or found enough time to devise an escape plan and change identity/go back into society.
@@DerrickRG91Most did. The Empire and Vader continued to hunt survivors for years until there was no more information coming in about any. Surely a few survivors had completely integrated into societies somewhere to the point no one could know who they are anymore.
Lord Baylon is the best character in the show by far. I sure hope whoever replaces him in Season 2 will be able to live up to the standard that Ray Stevenson set.
This is the best lightsaber fight of all time imo, they look like they were actually aiming for the other person’s body instead of solely aiming at the lightsabers. 0:35 was a great example of that.
Exactly, a lot of prequel fights while cool, look pretty ridiculous especially duel of the fates
Like Samurai vs Medieval Knight , Awesome!
1:24 The aesthetic ahsoka using leg just so she can withstand Lord baylan raw strenght is astonishing to watched.
1:02 Ahsoka cutting the force throw rock in half was beautiful form

Baylan's fighting style reminds me of Cal's style with a cross blade saber
R.I.P. Ray. You were the best villain star wars has scene in years
I love the samurai aesthetic of the choreography.
And Anakin is more of a Roman Centurion
Man....Baylan hits like a MACK TRUCK! Gave me Mike Tyson vibes with his agility and brute power! Ahsoka is definitely conflicted but peak level here. She Anakin'd herself here with conflicted thoughts. This happens to top tier warriors and when they get checked, they "wake up" and i bet the next duel is going to be crazy Baylan vs Ahsoka II! Thats when youll see Ahsoka at true peak power with a clear mind with someone that matches her power.
Baylan whaaat a fking beast, the perfect balance between brute force and agility. It’s like see a darth Vader again.
I love how hard hitting these strikes are. Reminds me of Empire, not the gentle poetic fights of the prequels, but sledgehammer blows meant to kill
the score when Baylan started to talk about Anakin during the fight is epic
Best fight of the series so far. Two things I love about are: Ray Stevenson's face at 0:42 and the music at 1:08.
He’s one of the best villains we’ve seen in a long time
Always getting chills of that surge of Baylan's power at 0:41
She only lost the fight because she injured/burned her left hand holding the map. She uses both hands on the hilt of her lightsaber and was forced to hold on with her right hand only. Baylan was smart to take advantage.
Which is great writing because when she eventually beats him it’s not gonna be “well why didn’t she before”.
Baylan also clearly uses his size and strength as leverage, since Ahsoka's predisposition towards using dual blades at all time mean that she can be fairly sloppy and weak when relying on a single blade, especially when a Form 5 user is factored in
@@quakethedoombringerShe wasn't sloppy or weak using a single blade here though. In the past, while she was still training, she had difficulty switching from dual to single blade which wasn't the case here. She really only began to lose when she was injured.

Baylon was slapping her about as hard as Vader and he didn’t have a nexus helping him out
What a unit
He didn’t slap her anywhere near as hard as Vader. She was going all out against Vader and was on the back foot for the entire fight, while Vader wasn’t even trying. In this fight she was only using one saber for some reason, and was matching him just fine until she burned her hand.
@@darthgrievous8055
"some reason". Need an open hand to grab that map. She clearly thought that more important than beating Baylon. After all, she could win and Baylon's allies could still end up getting the coordinates and heading off to the next galaxy. Though she clearly didn't expect that burn.
@@Teknanam fair point. Still, that only supports my point.
@@darthgrievous8055 What do you mean Vader wasn't trying? Vader not trying would be him holding his lightsaber with one hand like in Rouge One or Fallen Order. He was even fighting Luke one handed on Bespin for a while before switching to two hand. If anything, he was extra motivated or even desprate to kill Ahsoka because she is the last piece of connection to Anakin that Vader need to destroy. Not to mention, he was standing on top a Sith temple filled with dark side energy.
Just because Baylan beat Ahsoka doesn’t mean he’s stronger, what? She was fighting with one saber and only lost after she burned her hand. I thought the scene made it very obvious. No idea where you got the sense that Baylan owned her like Vader did
Baylan has some parts of Vader with his raw strenght, some parts of Maul with his acrobatics and dynamism and some parts of Dokho even with some of its elegance.
This guy is probably about 80% of Obi Wan's Level
Total Beast
The fact that this guy was a punisher and he passed away. Just breaks my heart
I love how the Leitmotif of Baylan which is usually played by a piano get's turned into a heavy hitting orchestral, first at 1:50 then at 2:16 even stronger as he get's more angry (bc Ahsoka yeeted shin). Usually the Piano just underlines how in control he is of the situation, such a soft tune compared to the usual star wars music (e.g. when he somewhat calmy grabs ahsokas hand in the second fight) but here he rly is pissed and not calm anymore, showing more of his dark side
2:15 bruh wtf ashoka no mercy
For all she knew Sabine was dead the reaction was expected tbh
Hati go night night
Better than any of the fights in the recent trilogy
Baylan is like Darth Vader and Count Dooku mixed together.
12/10 would watch again. Many times.
She used one because using two would be unwise against someone with great physical strength. He rag-dolled her...she kicked him. If this fight continued...he'd have beaten her.
He'd have beaten her only if her focus didn't change to the map. She clearly realises she needs to up her speed and when she does in the middle of the fight, she massively takes the initiative.
RIP Ray Stevenson. Our Gar Saxon.
He would be proud of his work here. I know I am because his power is beyond here and bearly second to Anakin's in this series.
Its like a samurai with all his years of training figthing an medieval knigth who is been like: lol, I am stronger and my sword IS bigger.
