Baylan beat Ahsoka in the first and matched her in the second and may have won if he wasn't taken aback by the ships. A real good character and villain. RIP Ray, we remember you❤.
ahsoka only lost in the first fight because of burning her hand. she had the upper hand before then. the second fight she was just trying to get past him. we never really got a real to the death duel between them
Hey takes me as a Djem so practitioner, brute force, and heavy power attacks. While Ahsoka's Shien style of Form V is just a bit faster and more acrobatic but not as strong
I do like how they incorporated more of a story in the first battle. The slow calculating moments of the opening fight, trying to see if there are any kinks in the other’s movement, sizing each other up. Always looking for an opening and maintaining distance so they can regain their timing.
I know people are complaining about how slow the lightsaber fights are, but I don’t mind that Baylan is slow because every strike is thought out with no move being wasted, take the strike at 1:26, missing the heavy overhead follows the momentum through to bring in an even stronger blow
A detail I really like is the way they change their stances before the fight starts. It's a simple but cool detail, it's something you could see real swordsmen doing, especially with how star wars' lightsaber combat is broken into forms with signature stances.
Baylan's saber is much brighter in the actual show compared to how it looked in the trailer. This makes it appear more red than orange. Not sure why they made this change, but in my opinion, it removed a little bit of the uniqueness of his and Shin's sabers.
It’s still very different from a typical sith saber. Watch the scene where Ashoka kills the inquisitor again, and when it switches to shin you can tell a distinct difference.
My guess is possibly time constraints. Maybe they had a deadline to hit with the teaser trailer and then kept working on it between that and official launch
“Your legacy, like your masters, is one of death and destruction.” Gah, what a satisfyingly dichotomous character. Really made for a compelling villain. And Ray’s performance really sold Baylan’s almost indignant commitment to his purpose. I hope if they decide to recast the new actor will be able to bring half the gravitas to the performance Ray did, some sizable shoes to fill most definitely.
Ray Steveson's Form V Shien was near perfect. Very aggressive heavy hitting attacks using his lightsaber like a Broadsword in the same Style as Vader since he is such a big guy. Idk wtf they got Dawson doing
So these are the fights that so many people claimed were so bad? They are good. Especially when you consider that neither actor was a trained swordfighter, In fact, reall sword fights in history usually ended after a few strikes. Those two would have killed several opponents in our world.
The reason Baylan beat Ahsoka the first time is because Baylan was using his physical power to his advantage against Ahsoka topped with his loads of experience. When Ahsoka burned her hand, she was unable to handle the physical power of Baylan's attacks and that's how she lost.
I like the dystopian future, because we can criticize the real world as if it were a bossa. Not a very distant galaxy where things happened, ruins that happened here, intolerance towards people and culture tore apart people's understanding, dictatorship driven by the dark side that was based on political power and military coup. This is Star Wars with Jedi and revolutionaries like Casian Andor.
Once again, these fights are portrayed where the fighters spin in circles and show their backs to their enemies. Baylan could have killed her easily at 1:36 when she fully turns her back to him. Please, just give me one fight where the fighters don't act like complete morons.
Nope, me too. In fact, I believe that back in the 80’s before the prequels most people imagined that this is what Vader looked liked before he got burnt (but younger looking lol)
no offense to ashoka's actress, but it's very clear especially in that first fight that she is not able to keep up the pace these fights need so the other actors need to slow down or stop and let her catch up. Maybe it comes down to the costume, maybe it's her. But it's very clear she can not keep pace
@kylepeters8690 yeah. Honestly I think it’s just because Ahsoka’s actress is unfit. She put on a lot of weight between The Mandalorian and Ahsoka, and had to wear a corset to keep her belly in which probably worsened her flexibility
@@TonyStark-zt5fe I don't pay much attention to actors in their lives, so if that is the case I could see that. I brought up the costume as due to disney slashing the budget it could be that her lekku aren't as fastened to her head as they used to be or anything. but I do find it very ironic that I've seen damn near nothing but praise for the ashoka saber battles. Yet to me they all just look bad. Slow and poorly choreographed. This one Baylen is doing a good job but the Morgan fight just seemed so badly done to me.
@kylepeters8690 yeah to be fair, I think the lekku could’ve been an issue as they extended them to make them more accurate to the animated shows. Maybe they could’ve just cgi’d them in for fight scenes? I definitely do think that Rosario was a big issue as well though because she doesn’t really have the required athletic background and basically did as many duels as possible which made them all look clunky because she kind of sucks at doing anything fitness oriented (lol). Baylan, Anakin, Marrok - heck even Morgan all duel better than Ahsoka because they’ve all had significant prior experience with duelling and being fit in general
@@TonyStark-zt5fe I could see that as well. It feels like they also wanted to work in the acrobatics with ashoka specifically, but did it in a very poor way so the characters just have to stand by and wait for her to do her spins and flips. I like spins, jumps and flips in fights, but if it slows the fight down that much and the opponent is clearly waiting for their turn. Don't bother.
Не нравится мне стиль у Байлана грубый, топорный, движения резкие хоть и действенный, но не красивый. У того же Энакина более плавый и гармоничный в последствии когда станет Вейдером тоже притерпит изменения, но там из-за костюма.
@@bjrnhalfhand2258 True. But still they really need to rehire the people that did the choreography from the prequels or the obiwan v maul scene in rebels/clone wars.
The first fight was perhaps the only thing I enjoyed about teh entire season. It was decently choreographed, staged, and shot. Baylan feels like an overwhelming threat, and force of nature that can't be stopped. He embodies a power and wisdom that seem ancient, refined, and unattainable by someone younger of a more modern generation.
This is definitely an improvement from some of the more mid duels in recent star wars but I do wish they got the person who did the fight with maul in clone wars as a stunt double

Baylan is so awesome. Rest in peace Ray Stevenson, your legacy will live on.
If you play it at 1.25x speed, it feels more like prequel speed
Kind of.
It is really impressive how well he is able to dodge and block Ahsoka's attacks with his strength/heavy attack based fighting style.
I love how they pace the first fight. Like a Samurai duel
We need a third fight
the move at 1:26 is so cool
I love these fights but the ones from the Acolyte definitely top this

Baylan definitely beat Ahsoka in the first match up but I wonder if the outcome would be different if her hand wasn't injured.
He was loosing it and in the second one she could kill him like 2-3 times. Im sure in the current timeline she is second only to Luke.
@@Zekzt hardly say he was losing because she kicked him over. The second fight they were fairly evenly matched.
