I think you should stack two peltiers. The maximum temperature difference between the two sides is limited: heat will start leaking from hot to cool side. Two stacked peltiers should get you to at least minus twenty Celsius.
Oh yes. This is as good as Applied Science's rubber band refrigerator. It's all about exposing people to things they don't know. Yes, many tech folks are familiar with cooling devices, but it's putting them together in an entertaining way that makes it. And it's Simon doing it in winter in Sweden where it is cold enough to freeze whatever you want. It never makes rational sense but it is a thing of beauty! Well done good man.
Many people would suggest that you stack several Peltier elements to increase thermal difference on both sides of the stack, but this doesn't work for many reasons. There is a way though to stack 3 elements in a special configuration and by doing so and using 4-5 such stacks you can easily achieve temperatures below -50 degree Celsius. Still not the most effective configuration but definitely a great and cheap way to have extremely low temps at home.
First, you should pour the juice as cold as possible before freezing. Second: you should use a aluminum square tube with the same size of peltier modules. Third, you should try to setting up the coolers in a cross section but at the same level. And four, if you have a AC in your room, put it on the minimum temperature for at least 2 hours before the essay. Wait in the room until the temperature gets down. Try it.
Its a bit sad it had such a low performance, but I liked it because you are using a natural Straw to Protect Nature, but on the other side use 600W to power this small tube. :)
Juice Icecream ? No need for a portmanteau- it's a sorbet, albeit a metallic orange sorbet. Thanks for investigating this for us so we don't have to. :-)
@Believer yes, but you need an external power source thoose thermoelectric couples consumes alot, a motherboard might not provide enough current. And youll need a heatsink on the hot side
@Believer yes u can do it in that way. but in overall cost of all this parts and energy for use it is not worth. u must count how many peltiers u need to cool down hi-end cpu + how many watts peltier take to work and in the end how many watts u need to your peltier cooling system. its not worth. Much better solution is: "IceGiant" - use google.
Peltier modules are not good for cooling much. They draw way to much power and need to much cooling. You would just be better with a radiator and fans.
I'm so grateful for such videos! I often have similar stupid ideas and now I don't have to make them, since you have proven them not working! You save me so much money and time!
Super cool! Your videos are really inspirational and are one of the biggest things that got me to start my own channel. Now that I know how much work it takes your videos are even more awesome.
Tin won't hurt you unless a large lump fell on you, but the lead in solder is a different matter. If there's a next time then make the container out of copper sheets - you can open up 22mm copper pipe then flatten it and solder together using tin solder.
Linus Tech Tips already did that if you want to watch that. But it doesn't take much thinking to realize that if you're using computer heat sinks and fans to cool a thermoelectric cooler to in turn cool a computer you'd be better off removing the middle man (the thermoelectric cooler).
I really like your channel , you inspire people all around the globe . I got an interesting idea for you - A 3D printed waterfall fountain , make it look as mind-blowind as you wish. you can add there nice led lights and a little monitor with water-level to know when to add water and you can also include the temp & humidity level of the room
Make a food safe silicon sleeve mold that slips into the metal tube so that you're not ingesting those poisonous metals . Also insulate the exposed parts on the outside of the tube and flip those fans so that they're pushing the hot air up instead of down . Then you should have a not so useless frozen water maker .
looked really like gallium corrosion, especially with the little metallic drops on the cooler. maybe the solder he used has traces of it, or he used the cooler once with a liquid metal thermal component once. once is enough^^
I was going to test this by making an aluminum disk 13mm thick and 80mm diameter to keep my favorite beverage cold . Mounting it through a counter to it the test are good .
I think you should just boy more and scale it up, this could still be entertaining with double or triple the modules! Maybe even liquid cool a computer with chilled water supplied from a resevoir cooled by a whole bunch of modules...basically the most innificient and expensive way to liquid cool a pc but it would be awesome
Thank you for confirming why my DIY water chiller used on my CO2 laser just didn’t work. Crappy CN power supply. Nice job editing out all the cursing. It would have been funnier with it.
Water stores much more energy with its temperature compared to most other compounds and elements. Like ten times more than iron (per gram). So heating it up takes much more energy than for instance soil. When pouring the water into the cup it really fast absorbs the cold from the iron, without cooling down much itself. If you used ice as a cold "battery", it will absorb more of the heat from the juice without heating up much. Maybe. It was a long time since I studied physics.
If you were to rotate your heatsinks 90° you could get them all lined up at the same level. If you used liquid cooling blocks with coolant for hot environments you'd have far better cooling for the Pelletier devices and be able to use many more Pelletier devices
If you want to instantly solidify water you need a lot of power: let's say that you have 4x4x10cm = 0,16 lt, the amount of calories you need to drop it from 20°C to 0°C is 0,16x20 = 3,2 kCal. If you want to do that in 1 hour you need an amount of power of 3,2 kCal/h, if you want to do that in a second you need 3,2*3600 (seconds in an hour) = 11520 kCal/h. Translated in Watt it is 13398 Watts, that is around the power you need to cool two apartments!
You should line the cylinder with plastic wrap or wax paper beforehand to protect the orange juice from contamination. Ever stuffing a ziploc bag in there would have gone a long way.

Stack two modules and run them at lower power to increase the efficiency. 2 stage system.
Great Channel. Man try to do a Stirling Engine, it would be nice. And maybe use it to power a rc boat. Idont know it that can be done.
Sterling engines have like zero torque I imagine the prop drag in the water would stall it straight away but would be interesting to try I guess
