3D printed boomerangs are making a come back! This one will be using 3x drone motors with insane power to rotate the boomerang and generate lift by the angled wings. The fast rotation of the boomerang keeps it airborne while slowly, in a large ellipse, making its way back to the original point of take off.

A boomerang that never comes back is just a stick
but this is a very well engineered stick
Nah, it's a boomerang thrown by me.
A boomerang that never comes back has many names: stick, Dad, gone, sanity, social skills, the list goes on
😂😂😂
Actually I have a stick when thrown it always come back die to my dog
The final product feels like something that would’ve been a dangerous recalled kids toy in the early 2000s
Heck yea more spinny drones! This one is extra terrifying lol
I love yours.
was about to tell him about yours
Artur Pekosz also made a monocopter
your's better
About time you get your checkmark from YT.
4-in-1 escs typically have a built in 5v bec for powering a flight controller, you might be able to replace the rx battery with a second servo plug coming off the esc.
maybe it fried too
do they?allmost all of my escs feed vbat to the the bec of the FC...
You can pull power from the balance lead of the 4-cell lipo for the receiver eliminating the other battery. We used to do that with our FPV drones before the video transmitters were high voltage. It works great. You pull from the connector where 6v comes out for the receiver.
the slow camera sliding in some of these shots is 🔥 adds a lot of depth. great video!
It's hard to change the direction of the axis of an rotating mass (gyroscopic effect), in this boomerang design, the motors rotational axis are changed when the boomerang it's self rotates, so the boomerang is continuously fighting against the gyroscopic effect. So maybe that's why the small one didn't work and it took so much motor power to make it work
If you put a bearing in the center with a tube and attached a second one on the "bottom" going the opposite way, you might be able to make it hover. And if you slow down the top or bottom motors, it might make it turn left or right. Basically a way over complicated drone "boomerang" but would be cool to see 😁
Hmm very interesting, but sounds pretty plausible to me. And yeah he'd be able to control it then. Idk how the programming and tuning will go though 😅😅
Two things this video has taught me, the countryside in Sweden is beautiful and that making my own RC flying Gamera is no longer just a dream
gamera is really neat! he is filled with turtle meat! we've been eating gaaameeeeraaaaaaa
When did that happen? In the not too distant future? Next Sunday A.D.? Were Joe or Mike there?@@herzogsbuick

The FS-i6 will bind to any flysky receiver which uses AFHDS or AFHDS 2A there is a setting in the menu to switch between the two. I have also bound mine to some HobbyKing recievers.
What a catch ! Great project, well done !
Love it, never felt more suspense or more fear about boomerang. Fortunately cool heads prevailed and no one lost their head
Your channel is just evolving into actual chaos and im all for it 😂
Awesome video as always! BTW, Google translated "Så jälva klockrent" to "so danm clean"... I get the point!!! Keep it going! 😁
It would have been so wonderful if google returned “Clean as a clock!” 😂
I'm glad someone finally stepped up to the plate to make the electric boomerang we've always needed.
Really liked this video. It feels better than some of the last ones for some reason!? I always like them all, but this one feels a tiny bit more special
Plenty of free flight model helicopters back in the day worked like that. Love the energy, well done.
Excellent work. Great video as always❤
He built my dad?
Your dad is a boomerang?
@@sombody578his dad never came back
@@88conway88 oh
It’s not getting milk either
You threw your dad?
Of course a flysky controller won’t bind with a spectrum receiver. They are completely different protocols
And a very clear indication of his being super cheap.
You're a different protocol.
@@thatguycarlosI don’t understand why he can’t just use elrs, it’s cheaper than spektrum and it’s WAYYY better range
@@aqua_sakura5021hell yeah! elrs is the future
Of course, I think we were all thinking this. Amiright fellas?
I love when you post bro!!! Keep it going.
Reminds me of Nicholas Rehm‘s spinning drone. Fun project!❤
Simon, I also had a problem with my DX6i going full throttle even when I recalibrated the sticks. I upgraded a X9D plus to hall gimbals and used the old gimbals in my DX6i. Worked like a charm and now I have a spare controller.
This is the most terrifying drone I've ever seen. Awesome!
sick fpv!!! SICK FPV!!!
That turned out awesome
“ I think I have all the information I need” hilarious.
Dude this was an awesome project and worked really well! Glad to see you getting to a win without a ton of headache lmao. Always love whenever you post!!
Great to see you back miss seeing youre videos always inspirating ideas
Love it! Great project, great video!
Looks great i love the blue props
4:50 PA: That’s a Flysky FS-i6, don’t cheap out. I am not surprised it doesn’t work… Just get an actually good transmitter, basically anything that runs EdgeTX is ok. I recommend the Radiomaster Boxer, or the TX16S. Also, ELRS for the transmitter and receiver. With Radiomaster, they have an option for a built-in ELRS transmitter.
Edit: The FS-i6 is literally the cheapest radio on getfpv right now. For just 11$ more you could’ve gotten a Radiomaster Pocket which is IMHO the waaaay better deal.
dude is stuck in 2003 drone tech. doesn't know what a BEC is either, it's wild.
The price différence for these thing in Europe are quite different.
Absolutely do this! The mixing and configurabiltiy of edgetx would probably also be helpful with some of these projects. Switching protocols can be annoying, but with elrs you won't have these dropout anymore.
The reason that he can't bind them is because they use different communication protocols, not because Flysky is cheap. There's nothing wrong with the TX.
Try moving the motors from the wing tips towards the center of the boomerang. In that way the wing tips can have a higher speed, more lift and its get easier to throw. Ha det bra. =)
I had the same thoughts as well as make the wings longer. The motors being near the center will turn the boomerang and the longer wings will act more like a helicopter rotor.
@@xxmortikaixx4975 Great minds think alike. 🥰
Nice video as always Simon :)
It's also pretty cool that it really came back!
The moving camera during the building timelapse was realllyyy gooddd.
i think the best way to understand what harm can be done by technology is to have access to it. for instance, trying to build things often harms my ego. but seriously, well put at the end there man
Simon love your videos been watching for many years and there always fun to watch
Finally another vid from this awesome channel 🎉
Great work!
The sound it makes love it
Imagine that with lights 4x the size middle of the night all the ufo reports you would cause....
Great Video!
Some possible ideas for future revisions;
- Design it as a 2 part Sandwich to "internalize' wiring and components
- Split the battery load onto the 3 arms evenly (ie 3 battery packs)
- Modify the wing design to include the pitch angle for more consistent/uniform pitch angles
Not sure how feasible, but if you cold program the motors individually you could potentially have full maneuverability and fly it like a "normal" drone
Thats awesome man.. 🎉
I'm an FPV pilot and RC aircraft maker since +5 years. Never seen a guy with the balls to launch a prototype that rotate multiple times every seconds from a stick, 50cm from its face.
You could just have no more jaw in half a sec lmao.
Look up the nitro version from the 1960's
I think it was from the company Cox.
freaking incredible, you're so smart man, well done. Wanna see more these, let's work
GREAT VIDEO AGAIN - keep up the great work
dude's a professional in making things that could absolutely kill a guy. Love it
Boomerang are for hunting and killing so he got it right then
Probably the coolest thing you've made yet!
Nice! Does your setup allow you to reverse the motors? Maybe just before trying to catch it, a quick reversal might make it easier. Also, if it's about to hit something, maybe there would be less damage if it wasn't spinning as much.
amazing success
Your crazy, love it! Keep it up.
I will come back like your boomerang and watch more of your videos!
I really like the type of humor in this channel :)
that thing sounds crazy
LOVE the way you think and wish we were neighbors.
This is wonderful
Well done on the catch near the end.
I live in Australia and I can say there’s heaps of good sports boomerangs you can buy. The are heaps of fun to get your head around. You can throw them so far and so high, with the right wind.
🇦🇺🤜🏼🤛🏼😎🍀☮️☮️☮️
Am amazed that it works
6:33, my heart. Longest startup I have ever seen
Actually EPIC. As someone when i lived in Australia got to have authentic ones made an taught how to use them its really an art/science. Keep enjoying yourself cause i will keep watching :)
But authentic boomerangs weren't meant to come back, they were hunting weapons. Not having any knowledge of aerofoils, or the tools to check perfect balance, aboriginals would use trial and error to make ones that flew in a relatively straight and predictable manner. A returning boomerang would be a novelty and fun, but useless as a weapon.
8:34 Holly, that's a nice transition
Just brilliant!
This is a proper Simon Stålenhag level creation!
I absolutely love hearing you speak Swedish when testing!
u r very inspirational! thx for exploding boomberang idea
That was pretty awesome !
Please, give this man a medal 🏅🏅🏅
Sweet project! I wonder if it can be controlled. Perhaps a servo controlling an aileron to tilt it at the correct rotation angle intervals during flight. Love the spinning transition BTW 👍
that was pretty cool. congrats
I am stunned that that worked
This channel is amazing 👏 😂😊
Wow nice work looks sick! 👏👏👏👏😊👍
Bro this is pretty awesome.look at the first version and now the last version! Continue to critique this idea you might actually have something here! I would like to see a final version that you can throw and will actually come back while controlling with a transmitter. That would be freaking epic. Good luck and thanks.
Wow😂 That Video was awesome!!❤
Nice now I need a propeller driven propeller
You could do it with 1 single big motor in the middle spinning a disc, the torque of the motor would make it spin and the disc would help with stability.
That was very cool!
That was awesome. Made me think, I bet a dual rotor head boomerang would work better than props on boomerang. Like a dual rotor head helicopter.
That was impressive
Everyone's talking about the receiver and not the fact that he made an awesome device that I thought would kill him by the end of it, lol!
it's rediculous that you really managed to catch that boomerang after two turns XD
you can use the balance port to get the right voltage for the receiver next time
Congratulations on the Dishwasher!
Nice one. I would try with longer arms (wings), but the motors closer to the center of the wings (eg. mid-mount). That way the tip speed of the wings will be more than the speed at which the motors will travel.
Love it! Great job. Definite UFO vibes. 🎉
the sound at 11:00 😲 great video 2x👍
they make a very small voltage regulator to keep from needing the two separate batteries on RC devices regarding the receiver and motor that would possibly help with the weight. I am from the US but the person i seen use it is Kevin Talbot from the UK on TH-cam, he has a lot of good information if you continue developing this he may be a good point of contact.
the thing with a boomerang is that it was trailing edge stall (like a helicopter's rotors).. where one side is travelling slower than the other cause its going in the opposite direction the boomerang is travelling.. thats what makes a boomerang tilt to one side... The challenge is finding a way to control the motor speed when its either exactly on the leading edge or the trailing edge... that would give you tilt (and hopefully directional) control
Love your camera skills and transition and missing drone helicopter sound 😂🎉
So cool. Always great videos.
Neighbor kid: "Can you come outside and play"
RCLifeOn: "Sorry I cant I have to charge my boomerang..."
This is such a cool concept, id love to see a V2 with more controls added!
Check out another Swede: "amazing diy projects" only he makes it full size !
underrated video
I cant think of boomerangs without thinking of the scene in Mad Max 2...this thing seems just as terrifying lol
Nice helicopter concept
I really enjoyed your video brother
Awesome idea....👍👍👍
I had an RC boomerang about 15 years ago when i was a kid. And it had 6 axis of flight if i remember correctly
Would love to see a studio tour!
This is a great idea if you had a controllable and movable weight for steering it would be able to come back, i bet it would make a really cool drone helicopter hybrid
Great Idea !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
