I don't mind binding but time is an issue. I also use 2 layers and the shiny side does go to the outer fabric because that's the side to reflect out the heat. If you are making a cozy for a cold drink bottle, put the shiny side to the outside so the cold stays colder with the fleece, (fleece absorbs) between and the shiny side reflects the cold to stay inside, insulated. Only one layer needed there. A potholder needs 2 layers so either side works to reflect the heat, even away from the table source as a hot pad or trivet or hands. As soon as it hits the shiny surface it reflects back, keeping the hot source like a pot or dish hot and not the table top or counter. Hope this makes sense. Amazing job on your bindless potholders. You can also fold one layer, would be an extra red layer with yours, to put a pocket for the hand on the back. One layer to your Christmas fabric and one in the folded half so the oven racks don't burn if you're pan is on the second shelf. Just some ideas... Thanks again, you've blessed my friends, family and volunteers too with this video. I've been making potholders as thank you gifts with binding... You've just saved me alot of time. Thanks for that idea! I think I’ll try making a heavy card stock template to ironing up all the sides and corners! That would be so much quicker than sewing the guide stitch and then folding by hand! :)
Thank you for such a great video and not “wasting our time” having to watch you stitch and iron every step of the way! You included just enough details for us to follow your process! :)
I think I’d make a thin cardboard (think comic book boards) to make a template for my front feature fabric. You would put it down on the wrong side of the fabric and then press your edges over it. Take the cardboard out and give your fabric a final press and any clipping of the corners.
I love this design! Thanks for the video and the great idea. I hate sewing on binding. Still have an unfinished quilt that was supposed to be for my baby granddaughter (who is now 14) because I couldn't do the binding! 😢 This is a lifesaver. I'm going to make some of these for Christmas gifts. ❤🧵🪡
Hello SLC, I'm not a fan of putting binding on such a small project and your technique is genius. t'hanks for the detailed video/tutorial because your verbal and visual instruction is a a good pace and well detailed. Nice job.
What a good idea for a framed potholder without the wonky binding. Such a more polished look. Yes, it takes one more srap of fabric , but the results are worth it. Thanks for teaching this old seamstress a new stitch!
I love it!! Looks so good and professional!! I needed this yesterday.😂 I put binding on several homemade hot pads. 😩 I’m now going to only do it this way now! I would love to see more videos from you❤
Nice video. I always enjoy seeing others ideas on how to solve a problem and come up with a new way of doing something. I thought you explained it all very well.
I'm soooo glad I watched your tutorial today!!❤ I'm going to make a lot of these potholes and put them together with some kitchen tools or goodies for Christmas gifts. THANK YOU !😍
Thank you so much! 😊I'm a beginner and wanted a pattern that would be easy for me to get to know my machine and not waste my nice material. The potholder seems a perfect match for that but the binding around the edge was keeping me from trying it. This technique makes it such an easy substitute for that. Thanks again. 💖🪡🧵
Welcome stitchgirl! This technique is a great option but dont be afraid to give binding some practice as you develop your sewing skills in the future. Thanks for watching! 😊
What a good idea! You did a great job demonstrating and explaining the instructions! To the point-no dilly-dallying (old expression!) and then boom-done! Gonna subscribe. Thanks!
I got most of this done as a very new beginner, but wish some more of the process was filmed! Can't figure out to sew that last gap up properly. Otherwise it looks fine for one of my first projects! Thank you for the tutorial!
I have a rounded corner template that I made from heavy car stock to use for pressing the rounded corners of the decorative piece. Also, I find inexpensive potholders at Dollar Tree, and add a new decorative panel over the top of the existing panel. A very thin line of Elmer’s school glue holds everything in plaice. I add the glue and then press it with an iron to hold layers together which helps with top stitching.
Thank you soooo much. Binding is hard for me as well and I was struggling with finding potholders for a project and this will help immensely. Thank you.

Nice! I use pinking shears to trim my edges, that helps with the curves
there used to be a metal template for those corners. You just press it over the template and you are ready to sew it. Great video TFS!
Thanks for sharing the tip!

Love your no nonsense video, and the no biding pot holder is just perfect.

Thank you for the support and for watching!!

Thank you, I understand now what the video left out.
