This worked PERFECTLY today with my Sony ZV-E10 and my Galaxy S23+ using an Elgato Cam Link USB stick to display the video out right on to my phone. The app that you show in the video doesn't seem to exist any more, but I just grabbed another USB video display app from the Play Store. We did a video shoot last week and I was so frustrated I couldn't tell what was in focus and what wasn't. This will solve that so fast! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Really great to see this! Also i'm glad that it has so many views. It seems like more creative content like this could get featured on YT rather than the all the paid /sponsored content that doesn't look for simple/ creative solutions first. Congrats!
grrr.cant fine this EXACT APP> I had that when someone point a VIDEO....says look for a spafic APP and google PLAY changes the NAME or DESIGN OF THE APP.
I do satellite TV installations and have long thought it would be handy to be able to use my phone a monitor for a satellite TV receiver. This for situations when a customer does not yet have a tv in the room where they want a receiver which actually is quite common with movers. Sounds like this might be just the ticket.
I have that video capture card. It may do well for this purpose, but with raw YUV, it really gets bottlenecked by the USB 2.0 connection. The MJPEG option used most commonly also has stuttering problems when there's so much motion - it saturated my USB bandwidth trying to record a high-action video game. If you need something less...laggy, look for a USB3.0 capture card.
could you recommend something? I'm wanting to use this for playing games at work in the car? (I like to play ark on my lunch break, and I hate having to move my seat every time to accommodate the laptop, lol)
yo, i cant believe the ammount of subs you got compared to the quality video you produce - i cant recall when anyone ever had such a great idea like that, i think this video will skyrocket aswell as your channel - cheers man!!!! +1 sub ;]
Just picked up one of the cables and capture cards and for the 15 USD including next day shipping i'm definitely happy with the results. Just need to pick up a few more of these capture cards now and see what else I can use them for!
Ahh I found this again. Trying to search mostly just comes up with videos about obvious wifi connection. I have the adaptor so just need to try it out now
Great tutorial! I found this HDMi device and a couple of useful cables lying around. I tried connecting it to my camera Panasonic Lumix G7 and it actually works! Now i just need to find a phone holder. Thanks alot. But i think endoscope HD only saves video without audio. Or maybe i didnt set it up properly.
I bought everything in the video except one detail - I noticed the Capture card i purchased is a USB 3.0. I am using a Note 20 Ultra and I am having issues with the phone recognizing the Video Camera. Not sure where I'm going wrong.
Thank You SOOOO Much Sir!! This will hopefully help me to obtain a sharper focus. I'm tired of missing the mark due to bad eyes. My SL1, I can not rely on the lcd display, nor the viewfinder, for sharp, crisp images due to my issues. This just may be the solution. I have found everything you listed. How about the 30 minutes time laps recording period? Their is possible that it prolong the time of dslr camera using android phone?need your help please🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
4:32 please someone guide me how to connect your mobile with pc and use it as a preview monitor for premiere pro with the help of video capture card. Please explain the steps a little bit.
Plug PC hdmi output into capture card into otg adapter into phone. Set it up as a second monitor in Windows like you would with any monitor. In Premiere edit> preferences >playback and choose the second monitor
That's one of the thing I was thinking about. There's millions of great quality display screens out there just waiting to be recycled and if you can open that converter and mount it on the board, you'd have something for cheap.
Incredible. Thanks for sharing. I find the setup perfect and applaud you for creating this detailed video. I am very interested in recording this incoming signal and wanted to ask - do you still recommend this Endoscope app? Any other solutions?
I tried this, i have a Sony CX405 handycam, when i conect the camera with the HDMI video capture to my pc it works fine, but when i conect it to the usb a to usb c adapter and then to my phone, the app i use on phone doesnt show the capture the right way, it appears all grey and like you can see that is trying to get the capture but it never makes it. the cable that i use to connect the hdmi capture card to my phone is new so i dont think that could be a problem.
I tried this setup and it works nicely but my issue is, it is not plug and play. I have to insert a flash drive first on the OTG cable then plug to the capture card before it can recognise the output from the HD Video card. Is there a way to automatically recognise the output from the capture card. My smartphone is a Samsung Galaxy S9
If I use a video recording card with typ-c connection it will work the same way (no OTG adapter)? I mean typc recording card plugged to the phone and hdmi cable from the recording card to my sony
I'm a still shooter and I needed a front facing monitor. I was just going to use the native app to see captures on my phone but this might be a better solution for me. Thanks!
Do you know why i cant download the android 10 version ?im install the app and click for download for androind 10 but nothing happened ... Or do you have apk that support android 10 ?
Jittery movement/Latency": Your video is just what I was looking for as I try to setup my Galaxy Note 8 Android phone to monitor my Panasonic GH3 on the new Weebill-S gimbal. I already had cables, a new 4K Cam Link capture unit and Samsung's own OTG adapter that came with the camera, so I thought I would be all set. The problem is that when I monitor the camera on the phone the view is very jittery with bad latency and would be unusable. I am testing with the Endoscope app that you suggested with the intention of buying a paid version if it worked well. Do you have any thoughts on why this latency would be happening? Could it be the app itself or some settings that I might be missing on either the phone or the camera? Any tips would be greatly appreciated as this seemed like a great solution for use with my new gimbal that is arriving tomorrow. Thanks for sharing these great tips with the TH-cam community!
whats the difference between connecting the camera to the phone directly via OTG cable (micro usb to UBC) and connecting via hdmi cable using capture card?
Hey!! Soo many doubts sir!!! I've got a hdmi elgato but it works only on 3.0 and sadly otg that I own its an 2.0. Was thinking to buy an otg 3.0 but i didnt found it with the normal android female charguer hole, just found it with usb C so.... Wich way could i go, should I buy your capture with 2.0 using my 2.0 otg cable? Wich should be the proper way to use my ElGato camlink. Congrats for the video, very very usefull!!!!! And thnks a lot.
Is it possible to do this wirelessly? I'm thinking of how useful this would be for camera pole shots for real estate photography. Camera goes up 10-20 feet or so on a pole to get a more flattering shot of the front exterior of the house. Shutter controlled wirelessly. It would be great to be able to mount the Android tablet on a tripod and view the monitor while taking that shot.
I tried something similar with hdmi to hdmi cable + video capture + lightning to usb 3 camera adapter, i tried to connect my Canon r7 with iphone 12 pro, but it showed error that accessory such a usb 3 adapter need more power, so i plugged in charger and it doesnt show error anymore, but still doesnt show view from camera, i used blackmagic camera and CamX app, aby ideas ? Hello. Thank you for this video ! Is the latency due to the phone or the capture card? The latency is too much for use, so I would like to know if a higher end card or phone would reduce the latency to near zero. Thankyou.
@@NEONAIRSHIP Thankyou for replying. It's such handy idea, because the video monitors are so heavy and require large batteries. This way makes it possible to keep very light and work in a more ad-hoc way.
Wonderfull, it actually works! I can now very comfortably take videos with my Huawei P40 Pro in all sorts of awkward positions with the help of a selfie stick while seeing what I'm recording on my Pixel 3a. Thanks for this great advice.

Great sollution and video👍 The preview Monitor idea is great, too. In my case i have only one HDMI out on my laptop. Any idea, how to connect it? Thanks again from germany✌️
Not sure what you have planned but if you need an additional output from your laptop there are some usb adapters and hubs that will add an extra Hdmi out
Fabulous, thank you Sir! I was poking around with the assumption SOMEONE would have come out with a simple cable to go from camera to phone/tablet. But nope. At least not that all of us could find. I am wondering though, as you say even this solution has some latency, how much more it is than the wifi solution already available with Lumix cameras? You do mention this comparison quickly. But as the larger monitor is of most value when setting up a shot, framing, and for checking focus, the latency may not be as big a deal as I can look at the small screen while shooting. All good options, though, thanks!
great hack. damn i only have an iphone, but thinking now it's time to get out the cage. didn't get. can you also record/broadcast the HDMI signal with the phone?
I have used this method on many jobs and it works beautifully. To your question though, some cameras don’t seem to allow video signals via their usb port. Other cameras that can, would require their proprietary app which may be outdated, discontinued, requires purchasing, etc. whereas every camera has an hdmi port and third party apps (at least for Android ecosystems) are numerous.
does it accept other audio input like the audio jack in the phone or is it just the HDMI source? I really want to know if we can use the phone as an easy mixer for the cameras that don't have an audio in jack

If I have to I will upgrade phones but I was hoping to use the one I have. I also have an IPhone S6 but I know you mentioned you haven't tried on Apple devices. Thank you so much for sharing this.
fyi my use case for your hack is for an Ordo Head Cam which I want to stream from. The phone broadcasts wifi which you can connect to with a phone, but then I lose my internet connection and can't stream. It has a micro HDMI output so I am hoping to feed the video to my phone and stream from it. Thanks a lot. I hope it works on my Samsung Galaxy 6. I just order an HDMI Capture Card HDMI to USB 2.0, Micro USB 2.0 OTG Adapter, and a Micro HDMI to HDMI chord. Am I missing anything? Thanks again.

Perhaps you know how to use an android smartphone as a 10 bit external video recorder for the modern slr cameras? I assume it would be necessary to use a wired connection you detail here? Since you are knowledgable, do you know if the phone can be used as a 10-bit external recorder and how to achieve that?
Just tried it out and it works well. Only issue I'm seeing is that my video does not fill the whole screen. Shows up like a 4x3 and has zoom function on the phone. Any suggestions are welcomed please. Thank you.
I couldnt get this to work for my Fuji X-t2. Could you help? i tried several different apps but it wouldnt allow me to preview my camera feed. I tried on 2 different phones, they recognized the camera connection, but wouldnt allow me to preview. Thanks for the great video, and any help you can give!
The capture card basically emulates being a tv or monitor, the USB port on your phone by itself can only do HDMI out to a monitor or use usb inputs like a mouse, keyboard, gamepad, or a capture card.
Thanks for this amazing video, I was about to purchase a monitor for my Blackmagic Pocket 4K. I already ordered the two recommended accessories, I just have a problem with the Endoscope APP. The link to the Play Store no longer exists and the search for 'Endoscope HD Camera' does not give a consistent result, even searching for the developer that I saw in the video. If you can give information about the updated link, or any other alternative that you have in the meantime, I would be grateful. Thanks again and have a nice weekend.

@@myavkat5954 grrr. cant find this EXACT APP....I tried to make up the little ICON in your video. but the ICON for andoscoop HD cam looked totally different
Do zebras or focus peaking appear? I'm assuming yes as it's just what's displayed on camera?
Yeah on Gh5 you can choose a clean feed or mirroring the camera screen
for bmpcc 4k work?
Perhaps you know how to use an android smartphone as a 10 bit external video recorder for the modern slr cameras? I assume it would be necessary to use a wired connection you detail here? Since you are knowledgable, do you know if the phone can be used as a 10-bit external recorder and how to achieve that?
Hey Neil, I'm not sure that's possible at the moment sorry
Does it work only with HDMI? can it
connect with OTG adapter on phone and Micro usb port from camera?
I tried using a micro hdmi for the setup on Panasonic G7 and Huawei Nova 2i and it works!
Can I connect Canon xa50 video camera to smartphone in this prosses
Awesome video and idea. I'm on android and this app isn't available any longer. any other suggestions?
Camerafi works really well!
Thank you so much 😁❤️❤️❤️❤️
Did you measure the current consumption?
Just tried it out and it works well. Only issue I'm seeing is that my video does not fill the whole screen. Shows up like a 4x3 and has zoom function on the phone. Any suggestions are welcomed please. Thank you.
Is that in the endoscope app? I only get 4:3 in the fpv one
@@NEONAIRSHIP Yes, in the Endoscope app. I downloaded straight from the play store.
Your the second guy that i’ve seen make a video only for android. Still looking for an iOS tutorial
Does this work if you're shooting in 4k?
Specifically using Sony cameras (a7sii and a6400).
Does the phone monitor screen go black when you press record on the camera?
Nice! Thanks for sharing this! Now I wish my phone could record the 4k 10bit 422 output lol
Hi justin, Sorry not too sure. Someone else in the comments had it working with the XT3 so I'm sure it's possible. Maybe a bad HDMI cable?
My cameras micro hdmi port is broken . Do you think this will work with the cameras micro usb port? I have a canon m50
hi, does this app also capture audio? i want to use my phone (tablet) as screen for PS4
Is the an app you recommend for iPhone/iPad? I don't see the Endoscope HD in the app store.
I have no idea of its possible on iOS sorry
What if we use a HDMI to Type C cable? Will it work?
nah it requires the capture device
The capture card basically emulates being a tv or monitor, the USB port on your phone by itself can only do HDMI out to a monitor or use usb inputs like a mouse, keyboard, gamepad, or a capture card.
My camera lcd doesn't turn on, can I use this as an external monitor to replace my inbuilt LCD.
Thanks again and have a nice weekend.
camerafi works pretty well straight from the play store on android 11 onwards
@@NEONAIRSHIP Thank you!
The only problem is the monthly subscription :-(
Hello. The Capture Card is NOT available right now. Do you have an another link for buying or maybe another option? Thanks.
Just updated the links in description, thanks for highlighting!
