I do satellite TV installations and have long thought it would be handy to be able to use my phone a monitor for a satellite TV receiver. This for situations when a customer does not yet have a tv in the room where they want a receiver which actually is quite common with movers. Sounds like this might be just the ticket.

I have that video capture card. It may do well for this purpose, but with raw YUV, it really gets bottlenecked by the USB 2.0 connection. The MJPEG option used most commonly also has stuttering problems when there's so much motion - it saturated my USB bandwidth trying to record a high-action video game. If you need something less...laggy, look for a USB3.0 capture card.

As long as the phone supports OTG, it should work. Micro USB, type c, USB 2.0 or 3.0, all don't matter. Again, as long as the phone supports OTG, software and hardware-wise. Android version should be at least Android 5 for better compatiility.

I can plug my Nikon z6ii to my Android Phone with usb-c to usb-c and use Camera Connect+Control App. The live view on the App works perfect, no latency at all. The only "small" problem is, that when you plug a usb into the camera, it won't record. The record icon is crossed out and the camear is probobly in datatransfer mode. That's total sh**t. With Wi-Fi it is a huge latency, though the autofocus works. Thank you for the solution, though it is overkill with adapter count.

Interesting. I'm doing a lot of fiddling around, and have lots of alternative equipment, one good-enough Android with a reasonable screen and reasonable memory, one getting-on-a-bit-now Android with an amazing screen and lots of memory, a Linux box, an HMDI signal source, that HDMI/USB converter, and a dodgy-looking OTG cable which might just be a normal USB lead. So the lead could be a weak link, and it won't work with the new phone. It does work with Cheese on Linux, used for testing webcam feeds, which are much the same thing. So maybe I can test my phone software (and cable) with the webcam.

    • @robinhodson9890
      @robinhodson9890 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Update: USB webcams can indeed provide a ready test feed, although all feeds are not created equal, and results will likely vary with varying feeds. I tried an OTG Hub instead of the recommended cable at first, and although it detects and identifies the webcam feed, it surprisingly doesn't have the bandwidth for the actual feed data. The recommended cable fixes that issue.

      Why "bad" ?
For old smartphone's batteries, you'll need external power provided to them with an adapter allowing to split the USB port between signal & power delivery (there are videos about it as well), &/or to replace the battery if it's not usable at all.

Just picked up one of the cables and capture cards and for the 15 USD including next day shipping i'm definitely happy with the results. Just need to pick up a few more of these capture cards now and see what else I can use them for!

Can this method works on a hard drive? Like instead of using a phone, the video capture card will be plugged directly to a hard drive or a storage where it has GB memory to it like sd card or something. In that way the video or files that you’ve recorded will be saved to the device like hard drive or sd card that i mentioned. Please respond thanks!

Great tutorial! I found this HDMi device and a couple of useful cables lying around. I tried connecting it to my camera Panasonic Lumix G7 and it actually works! Now i just need to find a phone holder. Thanks alot.
But i think endoscope HD only saves video without audio. Or maybe i didnt set it up properly.

    Thank You SOOOO Much Sir!!
This will hopefully help me to obtain a sharper focus. I'm tired of missing the mark due to bad eyes. My SL1, I can not rely on the lcd display, nor the viewfinder, for sharp, crisp images due to my issues. This just may be the solution.
I have found everything you listed. (3.0) and about to purchase them!!
    Thank You Sir :)

I tried this setup and it works nicely but my issue is, it is not plug and play. I have to insert a flash drive first on the OTG cable then plug to the capture card before it can recognise the output from the HD Video card. Is there a way to automatically recognise the output from the capture card.
My smartphone is a Samsung Galaxy S9

Perhaps Filmic Pro can use an OTG connected camera - would be perfect if they did.
EDIT: the OTG app asks permissions to record,....
