Tbh while I hate Micah alot, I would've liked him getting TB to be a wakeup call and have him change his ways in a positive manner like Arthur. I know it probably wouldn't fit his character but that would be a really good twist in my opinion.

this is exactly what I'm doing, Micah isn't leaving prison until I've hunted all 16 legendary animals, explored every inch of the map, had every random encounter, found all the gold bars, broke all the horse breeds, petted every dog.. and whatever else I decide to do 🤣

I've always done that anyway but once I finally found out the ending I drag it out even more now lol and the mission we're you bust Micah out of jail I don't do until i absolutely have to and the mission with Thomas Downs. And what gets me is they still could have had a redemption arc for Arthur without him dying. Or give him a sickness that they did have a cure for but a rare cure that he had to track down on top of all the other crap the gang went through and maybe have it to where it seemed like he wasn't going to get it and he started his making amends and making things right and then he finds the cure and can live happily with John on the ranch. Or something they could have done anything except kill him lol

@Mad Hatter true, it is, but the lore behind this video is that it's supposed to be Arthur's own son. They had to use a model from the game itself to play as the son of Arthur so they used another child model from the game that would've fit the look of Arthur without being too obvious it wasn't actually Arthur's son but just a place holder from another character in the game.

Nah. Micah made an effort of trying to get along with the gang even past that point. He even tried to get along with Arthur. Arthur saw him as common scum though since he fancied the gang as being more noble than common bandits like Micah. Now mind you, Micah was a creep. He was violent, vindictive, willing to kill anyone and anything, harassed the women, and didn't get along well with most of the gang due to his creepy nature. He did try though. By the time the Pinkertons picked him up after Guarma, he'd probably gotten completely sick of the rest of the gang and figured he could get the ones he didn't like killed and escape and manipulate Dutch who was already showing signs of mental illness. Arthur dying of TB and being too weak to really oppose him was a bonus that led him to push Dutch harder.

@@Cainus44 Have to disagree with you on that one. It's clear that Micha never cared for any of the gang members, being antagonistic towards everyone(except for Dutch) from the start. He's reckless, malicious, greedy, ruthless and only cares about his own gain, with complete disregard for the others. Qualities that don't fit in with their gang life at all. Arthur has good reason to dislike and distrust him from the start.

@kyju7093 yep. Full immersion. I did try getting the same horse and naming it, Sir Lancelot, again, but it didn't feel the same. I also started saying "sorry" to npcs after that game and feel so dumb after.

Thats what we forget playing arthur, he was a typical strongman for a gang at the start. He loved the gang and dutch but he knew it wasn’t clean. After his girl and kid died he didn’t care about being good or bad as long as it got the job done. He wasn’t as sociopathic as Micah but he wasn’t above roughing up a dying man or beating someone into brain damage, Arthur has the body language of an outlaw because he was an outlaw and accepted it. Meanwhile Dutch and Hosea try to act more “civilized” to pretend they aren’t
I've played the main game 15 times, epilogue 8. Why? Because I can't stand Sadie Adler and Arthur even when he's bad, in my opinion he's too good for Mary.

I just noticed that Micah’s common outfit colours completely contrast Arthur’s. His shirt is red while Arthur’s is blue, his hat is white while arthur’s is black. It’s not 1:1 for each clothing piece, but it really shows how Micah is truly the polar opposite of Arthur
Exactly. And Arthur's canon gun, the Cattleman revolver, can be modified with max honour white pearl and gold grip, while Micah's, the double actions, can be modified with black steel and red wood grip. There are many other hints too like default horses

@@acluftwaffe3107 Yeah ... This is one thing that really bugged me about this alternate ending. To some degree, Arthur was a criminal by choice. He held the gang above all else, even if that meant he had to be an outlaw to fit in. The gang was his surrogate family and he never felt inclined to leave it. If it wasn't for his infection with TB, he would have never tried to change his ways. Even at the end of chapter 6, when there was basically no more hope, he tried to save the gang by returning to Beaver Hollow and confronting Micah. It would have made no sense for Arthur's character to leave the gang and become a rancher. Especially not without the TB. And Arthur was never particularly interested in running a ranch anyways. Considering how much effort he puts into the drawings in his journal, I could imagine him becoming a professional painter instead. You know: turning his hobby into his profession. John, on the other hand had already left the gang for a year once before. Contrary to Arthur, not the whole gang was his family but only Jack and Abigail. During the epilogue and his time on the Pronghorn Ranch, John started to like the ranch work. I don't know if you have played RDR1, but in that game, many people frequently remark how skilled John is at handling cattle and horses.

You said that Arthur decided to be an outlaw himself, but remember that during his last trip the song "May i stand unshaken" is playing, in which there are such lines "I can't remember just what guided me this way", this means that Arthur did not become a bandit of his own volition. But if Arthur still became good in the end and tried to help people, then John absolutely didn't care about anyone except saving his family (because of which, by the way, he ran away for a whole year), so John has a rather strange value system, then he runs away for himself because of Abigail and Jack, then gives his life for them, which means that he died for nothing (besides, Jack became a criminal, which once again confirms that John has no redemption). It's like Michael De Santa wants to steal a lot of money, kill hundreds of people, and then pretend to be good and live quietly on his mansion (ranch).
@@acluftwaffe3107 That is not what I meant. Neither John or Arthur became criminals voluntarily. They were both picked up by Dutch at a young age and indoctrinated. However, Arthur chooses to be a criminal with every day he stays with the gang. At one point he even had a family outside of gang (Eliza and Isaac), but he never really devoted himself to them. As a result, he wasn't with them and couldn't save them when they were robbed and killed. This is a strong symbolism for Arthur's priorities in life. He favored his gang over his real family. The same happened with Mary Linton. The two never ran away together, because secretly Arthur didn't want to give up his life as an outlaw. Arthur was an outlaw through and through. We can also see his real personality in the things he does when the player is not in control or when we are forced to do something. Arthur would have beaten Tommy to death if it wasn't for Mr.Downes' intervention. It was Arthur's choice to beat Mr.Downes to a point he later dies from his injuries. During chapter 4, in a cutscene in the mission "Country Pursuits" Arthur made the decisive call to take revenge on Bronte. Now let's look at John. Admittedly, yes, he left the gang and his family. He was overwhelmed with the situation and he didn't know if Jack was his son. But what is so remarkable about John is, that he had his change of heart without anyone or anything pushing him. Arthur needed his TB infection for a change like that. I would even argue that Arthur acted selfish because he only did good things to feel better about himself and the life he lived. John's mother died during child birth, his father died when he was 8 years old. That's what brought him to the realization that Jack needed a father (and a mother) to break out of the vicious cycle. He returned because of Jack, not for himself. It was at this point John's values changed. There is nothing strange or inconsistent about that. From that point on, his main priority in life were Jack and Abigail. He stayed with the gang because he had no other opportunities, unlike Arthur who had a family outside of the gang but chose to stay. You can't blame Jack's development on John alone. The boy grew up surrounded by outlaws. His father was killed by the lawmen he worked for. John did the best he could. Also, calling Jack a criminal is not really justified. We barely know anything about his character. There are no story missions with him as the protagonist that would tell us anything about his circumstances.
Interestingly, this wouldn't have had the same emotional impact WITHOUT Rockstar's true ending. The sentiments towards THIS ending are so incredibly powerful because there was a much sadder version before. So, due to that deep sadness we felt back then, on that hill, at sunrise, the feelings we have now, even if for a passing second, are of an overwhelming happiness.
There is definitely a version where we feel the incredible sadness, but then also get a happy ending with Arthur afterwards though. The story would have to change a fair bit, but it's possible. As it stands now, I feel nothing but sadness. Arthur is gone. We know in a couple years John is going to die and then quickly after Abigail dies. It's not even bittersweet. It's just depressing lol.

Micah is the shittiest piece of shiet, but Dutch is the one pushing all is gang to suffer and death by wanting more and more, involving every one in his path to be a legend, even without Micah around it would have ended pretty bad

People like Dutch sooner or later get their friends/family into trouble, because of their constant desire to "be someone powerful"/"be important", to be a leader for everyone else and to have people around them support their "adventures" and vision ideas. But when people around them begin to question their ideas, such dudes can simply go crazy, because they lose their "authority" first of all in front of themselves, as if someone publicly shamed them to the core. I believe that Dutch would still cause problems in any case, because people like him just can’t live without it. My own guess is enough for me, that even if they achieved their Tahiti dream and everything was consistently good, he's unlikely to let his people just go off and live their own lives, because it's only his gang that gives him the authority he so desires, and without which he will become an ordinary man. That's why he began to listen Micah more and more, ‘cause he never questioned Dutche’s ideas like everyone else, and that's why he started to become unstable so easily. *I hope I didn't miss anything. @@CronaIbis Yeah I feel the same about him, he basically likes being a hero figure for marginal people to get loyalty almost like a guru, and in a weird way I think he kinda even prefer having his crew in trouble so they have to still rely on him, u can even more see how a piece of shit he is with natives, using they’re misery and anger for his own good, sacrifice them, and still try to look like the hero here. And in the first RDR it’s even worse, using they’re cause to basically justify the worse crimes. ( don’t apologize my English is even worse haha hope u understand at least )
Dutch was a good man, (or at least had good intentions) the fact that he adopted both John and Arthur proves it, yet he always had dark thoughts, and in general was a psycopath, Micah was practically the impersonation of his dark side, always there to push him to do things he normally wouldnt. Dutch always had Evil Thoughts, that he tried to maintain hidden ever since it started going downhill, Micah was pretty much throwing gasoline into the fire, which eventually lead into the gangs downfall and disbanding. without Micah, that dark side never got bigger, Dutch never got greedy, and they didnt get as sloppy as they got.

I and my daughter constantly talk about how they should have allowed the player/Arthur to veer away from the main story to have a happy life. And apparently this was the best moment.
Im on my second playthrough and always will be cuz im never gonna rescue his ass xD I went treasure hunting, got a LARGE fortune, enough to set Aurthur up for the rest of his life and havent been back to camp since. Mostly sticking to the mountains
@@vannlo355 How much treasure did you find/gather up? So far I got about 13 Gold Nuggets, 22 Gold Bars, and a crapton of other valuables all stashed away in my satchel. Plus a leftover 300$ in money after robbing 2 trains back to back and leaving to upgrade attachments (not customize) onto all my current guns so far in Chapter 2. Edit: I also have a gold ingot as well, and all this loot I gained was done without me even making it to/past the Downes debt collect mission, Sean bounty hunter rescue, Hosea wagon fencing and Swanson finding mission

The fact that this was the ending Arthur truly wanted for himself; to run away from a life of crime and wrongdoing to live in peace and with Mary; ugh damn, it just breaks my heart that that whole dream was unreachable for him.
To be honest, I don't think this is the ending Arthur Morgan dreamed of. His attachment to the gang was far too strong for him to go his own way and become a rancher. Especially not without the tuberculosis, that lead him to reconsider his life. Think about it for a second. Even at the end of chapter 6, when the gang was practically already doomed, Arthur returned to Beaver Hollow to confront Micah. All the women, Jack, Pearson and Reverend Swanson had already left. John was assumed dead. At that point, there was no one or nothing left to save. I am convinced that, if he was given the choice, Arthur would have wanted to continue his life as an outlaw in the Van der Linde gang. I beg you to not reduce John to something that he isn't. John's only function is not to honor Arthur's legacy. He worked and fought to realize *his* dreams, not Arthur's.
Arthur was a wild man. He'd never have settled down. John wouldn't have either if Abigail wasn't constantly there to whip him into it and use Jack as emotional blackmail. Arthur didn't have Mary around much to do the same to him, they had no real connection beyond a failed engagement, and it's clear Mary had no interest in staying with him unless she needed someone to turn to for help with an issue she couldn't solve. She wasn't a good or loyal woman.

He promised her he’d gather money and they’d be on their way WAY before he got TB. He was loyal to the gang yes, but he started having thoughts since before the blackwater incident which can be read through his journal and small dialog throughout camp. This is the exact life he wanted. It wasn’t until it got extreme that he really pushed to figure out what’s happening, he wanted the ppl he cared about safe before he made his exit. When that happened he was more than likely going to live his life in peace. Start a new family and settle down again. Please this is such a good game, he was longing for change since the start of the game! Play it again and pay extra close attention to details don’t just rush through it like so many do

The gang was everything for Arthur because he live in gang his whole life. In the end it changes, but he still has the loyalty to the gang. He could kill Dutch in so many occasions, so he could end the problems, but even in the end he tried to convince him, because still he treat him like his father. Btw. Having photo of someone, doesn't mean that you still love him. It's clear to see that he remembers the good times.
Now we know what Arthur saw when he said John won on the side of that mountain, because Arthur in the last moments of his life, saw what could have been, and knowing since he didnt get away but John did, he knew that it would become Johns destiny, all he had to do was keep talking, keep Dutch and Micha busy, just long enough for John, Abigail, and Jack to get a nice head start from them and the Pinkerton's and get as far away as possible. And all through the story Arthur knew he wasn't supposed to make it. After catching Tuberculosis he knew his time would be cut short. The moment he decided to help John and Abigail he already knew what he had to do he just didnt fully realize it yet. And having seen what might have been, to give John and Abigail the life he knew impossible for himself. Seeing this vision would have given him solace knowing what he was doing was the right thing. In that moment he knew he had to do and to take his place among history's tragic heros, with his dying breath's tell Dutch and Micha that John won. Giving Arthur....Redemption
Would've loved to see Arthur alive at the end of the game, living alongside with John and his family. Imagine if you could switch between the two of them similar to a GTA V character swap.

They should have done a DLC Where arthur lesves the gang, gets everyone the money they need, john goes off with his family and arthur finally settles down with Mary.
The best part is it doesn’t have to interfere with rdr1. Arthur could go either north or back out west and settle and John could go down to beechers hope. Arthur is out of the picture and lives out the rest of his life and John would go on to take out Javier and Dutch
if rockstar let us play an actual good guy character for a change even la noire's character was corrupt philanderer, maybe we could get a bittersweet ending like this more often
I'm still upset about it also. My hubby is still doing side missions first before he's going to complete the story. I'm waiting for him to finish it and see and feel how it is like.
Worst feeling ever 😭😭 started a new after a short break because i missed arthur so much. Never felt this way about a game character til December 5th of last year when i first bought and played this game for myself beat it within a week and now im slowly taking my time enjoying the scenery and completing all the challenges i can do as arthur because i know some things you needa get are in new austin which sucks 😭 I don't wanna see him die again
While this is awesome and a happy alternate story for Arthur, I believe the whole reason this touches so many people is because of how well of a story Rockstar wove for Arthur. The wild west was brutal and unforgiving, ending in tragedy for many and they gave us exactly that.
Very true! It's also called Red Dead REDEMPTION for a reason lol. We have to remember that these were bad men, no matter how much we love them. There probably wasn't going to be any real redemption for them and all of the horrible, horrible things they did without death. But, both Arthur and John died protecting those they loved and they redeemed themselves!
You forgot to add the part where with Micah dead the Van Der Linde’s were able to pull off the Saint Denis heist without Pinkertons intercepting the plan, and the rest of the gang live a happy life as Mango farmers in Tahiti while Hosea is alive to keep Dutch sane
Pinkerton's didn't pick up Micah till after Guarma, With all the chaos the gang was causing in Saint Denis, the Pinkerton's knew they would show up sooner or later.
@@buttix9429 I actually have another theory. John was captured alive. What if ABIGAIL told Milton about the bank job on the promise that John wouldn't be killed? She's really the only one that had a motive. I genuinely don't think Micah WAS a rat. I think he was a reprehensible jerk, but I don't think he was a rat.
Micah snitched after they came back from gaurma I get so mad when people think he caused the robbery massacre in saint denis like Milton specifically says "AFTER YOU CAME BACK FROM THE CARRIBEAN" or something along that either way it was after guarma
Charles moved to Canada found a woman and started a family and lived happy life up until he died in 1941 and Sadie married a revolutionary in the south and lived on a ranch until she died in 1936 in bed surrounded by loved ones (they also both kept in touch with Beecher's hope ranch up until they passed)
It did say Sadie went to Mexico, it'd be interesting if she ever met Javier Escuella again. I think his explots prior and post rdr2 would be interesting to explore. And who knows, maybe he escaped the hanging in RDR1...

The way I interpreted this, seeing as a lot of these characters are also dead, is that this is Arthur's afterlife. He corrects his mistake of freeing Micah, he marries the woman he loves, he can finally be a real father, and he's at peace.
Maybe they mande a cenario where the Saint Denis heist was scucessfull because Micah didnt snitch on the gang. They get a lot of money and the gant splits up
After Arthur Abandoned Micah and left him to hang in Strawberry despite Dutch's wishes, Micah eventually broke out of the cell by his own wits and chance. After Returning empty handed, Dutch was evidently furious, but somewhat understanding of Arthur's standpoint, and decided to think of an alternative plan to rescue Micah from the law. At this time, Micah somehow escaped through sheer wits and chance, eventually returning back to the camp. Although relieved that Micah had made it back, Dutch wasn't too happy about him stirring so much trouble, and decided to excuse Arthur, and asked Micah to make up for his mistakes by assisting Mr.Strauss in his loan sharking business. Micah eventually caught Tuberculosis after confronting Mr.Downes, and his health began to decline. His lack of use made him feel even more rejected in the camp as he isn't able to do tasks as independently as he used to be able to, and eventually fell out with the gang. He died a few months later due to TB. The Van Der Linde gang continue their business as usual, stirring up trouble and accumulating wealth in an effort to live a life free from law and government. A few months after, The Van Der Linde gang continued as usual, albeit still hunted by the Pinkerton Detective Agency. Abigail Robert begins to grow frustrated at the Outlaw life as she considers the well being of her only son, and decided to discuss with her husband about it for some time. Eventually, John expressed his thoughts to Arthur about Abigail's wishes to break off from the gang, and Arthur, understanding John's perspective, decided to at least let him have a normal life, and brought him to Dutch. Although Dutch was reluctant about the idea, he eventually decided that he can grant John and Arthur's request to break-off from the gang so that John's family can have a normal life. Arthur agreed to go with John, much to Dutch's reluctance, but with all Arthut had given, he figured that he can atleast liberate Arthur from his dreams of being an Outlaw. He provided them with some funds from the Chest, and wishes them good luck. During this time, Arthur reconciled with Mary, and after some persuasion, Mary decided that she'd like to run away from her Family and be with Arthur. Years passed by; John's Family, Arthur and Mary eventually led a somewhat nomadic life. Constantly moving around places in an effort to not be recognized by the law. At some point, Abigail read about a land in Beecher's Hope, and thought that it may be a good place to settle down. At some point around this time, they met Uncle, who is seen drunk around Blackwater. After catching up about the gang's well being, Uncle heard about their plans to settle down in Beecher's Hope, and decided that he wants to help them as he had experience and knowledge on such a field. Through Uncle's guidance, John and Arthur eventually built the Marston Ranch, where John, Abigail, Jack, Arthur, Mary and Uncle will be living in. Arthur eventually mustered the courage to properly propose to Mary, and she accepted his offer. Word got down to the Van Der Linde Gang through Uncle, and Dutch, along with what's left of his gang, decided to attend Arthur's wedding. Shortly after that, Arthur and Mary were blessed with a son, who he holds dearly, and promises to do right by him this time around as part of redeeming himself from his past. At some point, Arthur met Rains Fall, who is still recovering from the death of his son. After some catching up, Rain Falls mentioned that they are moving towards Canada, and suggested that Arthur may be able to bring his Family there for a better life. After some discussion with his wife, they eventually decided that they would like to broaden their horizons, and migrate to Canada, where they'll properly start over again with a life free of the constrains of Arthur's status as a former outlaw. Due to the Pinkerton Detective Agency's utter failure in bringing down the Van Der Linde gang, their funding were cut by Leviticus Cornwall, and they are forced to continue their operations in a significantly smaller capacity than before. Their efforts in uncovering the Van Der Linde gang's location were futile, and does not come close to having enough manpower to arrest John Marston forcefully. They had switched their focus to lesser gangs and outlaws since then. Life continued as normal, with a new century proceeding to uncover itself, and so does a new horizon begins to break.
One of the things that are just as sad as Arthur's death is how Dutch was absolutely ruined mentally by Micah. Micah is the reason everything went wrong with the gang, and why every plan Dutch ever made failed. He was such a good character at the start of the game and almost like a supportive father figure to Arthur and John.
In a way, maybe Arthur's TB made him realize how much of a bad man he was and then when he knew that he didnt have much long in the world he decided to spend his last days doing good helping others he hurt like m.s downs and attempting to save whats left of Dutch and the gang, the tuberculosis gave him a chance at redemption a chance that he no doubt took. Charles said it the best "he is where he wanted to be, on a hill facing the pretty sun."
Arthur in my mind at least was a shitty and pretty horrible person ( still far better than Micha for example but not nearly kind hearted as charles , if you remember no matter how good of a Arthur you play if Charles wasn't there during the camp move to Lemoyne he would've abandoned that woman and her kids and left their husband to die) whos only redeemable quality was his sense of guilt over what hes done and his loyalty until the TB , To me he did acts of kindness in a vain attempt to make up for all the acts of evil he did and is a incredibly hot tempered man quick to anger and violence and only helps if directly asked or put on the spot and guilted into feeling bad. Once diagnosed with tb i play him as someone who realizes all hes done and where its gotten him and who wants to truly do good just for the sake of doing good as a way to say sorry to the world and himself.
Arthur deserved the world. Imagining him as a dad made me wanna cry, he looked so happy. If he had a daughter I know how much he would have spoiled and protected her, God I’m so sad he really did deserve better

I think what he means is that each Character has such a distinct way of moving and behaving themselves, that seeing Micah with Arthurs animations feels odd
Emotionally, I would've loved this ending in the game. But to folk saying there should be a an option to live at the end - part of the reason people got so emotionally invested in Arthrur was for the descisions he made when he knew he was going to die. Facing your own mortality changes him and I don't think we would've got that same connection without the TB story line. Amazing video though, hit me hard seeing Arthur and John putting the house together.
That's what most people fail to understand. It's the tragic moments in stories that have a bigger impact and make us appreciate the character even more.
I suppose but even without the TB he was definitely seeing how crazy Dutch became and the rest of the gang blindly following and wanting to distance himself and get out, especially before he was diagnosed and he went to the show with Mary you could see he was tired of it and wanted some normalcy. He was also more level headed compared to some in the gang like Bill or Javier
I think what makes Arthur’s story so compelling is that even though his sacrifices for John were in vain, he still made the decision to be a good, honorable man. At the end of the day, Arthur chose his own fate, and believed that love exists.

Yeah. I don't think the ranch life suits Arthur's character (or Mary Linton for that matter). The life in the gang was all he ever wanted. They were is real family, not Eliza and Isaac or Mary Linton. That was one of the main points of the game: The arrival of civilization marked the end for the American Wild West and Arthur's way of living. John was not so attached to the gang and his former way of life. His family was not the gang but just Jack and Abigail. He only stayed with the gang because he lacked the opportunity to leave together with his son and wife.

So what brings you two here?” John looks at him. “Abigail’s pregnant again. Sadie found a new husband. We’re both moving out here. Thought we’d deliver the good news.” Arthur smiles and says, “good to know we’re all doing well in life.” Arthur opens his eyes. He’s in the camp near Valentine. He sees John and Dutch arguing, Sadie sat on a rock crying. Arthur thinks to himself, “it was a nice idea.”
I actually read fanfic where Arthur kills Michah sometime after freeing him from the jail at Strawberry. It's not completed fanfic, but the premise was interesting. It's also set up as an Arthur/Sadie pairing fanfic.
Plot Twist: Within this alternate ending, John would have to inevitably hunt down Arthur to finish off the last of Van der Linde gang, creating an even more tear jerking ending for Arthur
In my new official head canon after seeing this video, the ranch that Mary and Arthur make for themselves is up in Canada. So when the detectives come to John later to hunt everyone down, John tells them he died a while back. And since they haven't seen him in a while (cause Canada), the detectives believe him. So John protects Arthur, just as Arthur had done for him so many times growing up and boom, he still gets his happy ending.
Lol I tried to give it a second try but I couldn't bring myself to see Arthur die again so I stopped at the swamp camp and decided to explore and get into shenanigans.
Tbh it wrecks the story for me, ruins the story rockstar was trying to tell, it wouldn’t have hit harder if he didn’t die, they’re not telling a happy story, more of a depressing story about a group of outlaws in a world that doesn’t want them anymore, Arthur was never gonna change, he’ll always be an outlaw, I think he wants to change, he wants to be a good person, but he’s not and he knows this, but with the time he has left, he helps his friend change his life and escape with his family, that’s why that scene when Johns leaving to go kill micah gets me a lot too, because he doesn’t expect Abigail to understand, he knows he shouldn’t but he can’t let Micah go, games a 10/10 story is some of the best I’ve ever played

Nah that wasn't his son. Arthur actually took on a job as a private tutor, because even though he wouldn't have admitted in the past his penmanship and drawing skill is certainly remarkable for the time. That boy I believe is the son of a man who once worked in the mines of Annesburg but quit after a kind stranger gave him a treasure map with which the man found a chest full of gold bars worth thousands of dollars. He and his family moved to Blackwater afterwards and decided to let the boy get tutored by locally known artist and teacher Arthur Morgan, who offers to teach people how to learn to read and write as well as riding horses. Truly a great man.
Seeing Micah die alone and in pain was the most satisfying part of this.

Nah. Micah made an effort of trying to get along with the gang even past that point. He even tried to get along with Arthur. Arthur saw him as common scum though since he fancied the gang as being more noble than common bandits like Micah. Now mind you, Micah was a creep. He was violent, vindictive, willing to kill anyone and anything, harassed the women, and didn't get along well with most of the gang due to his creepy nature. He did try though. By the time the Pinkertons picked him up after Guarma, he'd probably gotten completely sick of the rest of the gang and figured he could get the ones he didn't like killed and escape and manipulate Dutch who was already showing signs of mental illness. Arthur dying of TB and being too weak to really oppose him was a bonus that led him to push Dutch harder.

Thats what we forget playing arthur, he was a typical strongman for a gang at the start. He loved the gang and dutch but he knew it wasn’t clean. After his girl and kid died he didn’t care about being good or bad as long as it got the job done. He wasn’t as sociopathic as Micah but he wasn’t above roughing up a dying man or beating someone into brain damage, Arthur has the body language of an outlaw because he was an outlaw and accepted it. Meanwhile Dutch and Hosea try to act more “civilized” to pretend they aren’t

I just noticed that Micah’s common outfit colours completely contrast Arthur’s. His shirt is red while Arthur’s is blue, his hat is white while arthur’s is black. It’s not 1:1 for each clothing piece, but it really shows how Micah is truly the polar opposite of Arthur

This is one thing that really bugged me about this alternate ending.
To some degree, Arthur was a criminal by choice.
He held the gang above all else, even if that meant he had to be an outlaw to fit in.
The gang was his surrogate family and he never felt inclined to leave it.
If it wasn't for his infection with TB, he would have never tried to change his ways.
Even at the end of chapter 6, when there was basically no more hope, he tried to save the gang by returning to Beaver Hollow and confronting Micah.
It would have made no sense for Arthur's character to leave the gang and become a rancher.
Especially not without the TB.
And Arthur was never particularly interested in running a ranch anyways.
Considering how much effort he puts into the drawings in his journal, I could imagine him becoming a professional painter instead.
You know: turning his hobby into his profession.
John, on the other hand had already left the gang for a year once before. Contrary to Arthur, not the whole gang was his family but only Jack and Abigail.
During the epilogue and his time on the Pronghorn Ranch, John started to like the ranch work.
I don't know if you have played RDR1, but in that game, many people frequently remark how skilled John is at handling cattle and horses.

You said that Arthur decided to be an outlaw himself, but remember that during his last trip the song "May i stand unshaken" is playing, in which there are such lines "I can't remember just what guided me this way", this means that Arthur did not become a bandit of his own volition. But if Arthur still became good in the end and tried to help people, then John absolutely didn't care about anyone except saving his family (because of which, by the way, he ran away for a whole year), so John has a rather strange value system, then he runs away for himself because of Abigail and Jack, then gives his life for them, which means that he died for nothing (besides, Jack became a criminal, which once again confirms that John has no redemption). It's like Michael De Santa wants to steal a lot of money, kill hundreds of people, and then pretend to be good and live quietly on his mansion (ranch).

That is not what I meant. Neither John or Arthur became criminals voluntarily. They were both picked up by Dutch at a young age and indoctrinated.
However, Arthur chooses to be a criminal with every day he stays with the gang.
At one point he even had a family outside of gang (Eliza and Isaac), but he never really devoted himself to them. As a result, he wasn't with them and couldn't save them when they were robbed and killed.
This is a strong symbolism for Arthur's priorities in life. He favored his gang over his real family.
The same happened with Mary Linton. The two never ran away together, because secretly Arthur didn't want to give up his life as an outlaw.
Arthur was an outlaw through and through. We can also see his real personality in the things he does when the player is not in control or when we are forced to do something.
Arthur would have beaten Tommy to death if it wasn't for Mr.Downes' intervention. It was Arthur's choice to beat Mr.Downes to a point he later dies from his injuries.
During chapter 4, in a cutscene in the mission "Country Pursuits" Arthur made the decisive call to take revenge on Bronte.
Now let's look at John.
Admittedly, yes, he left the gang and his family. He was overwhelmed with the situation and he didn't know if Jack was his son.
But what is so remarkable about John is, that he had his change of heart without anyone or anything pushing him.
Arthur needed his TB infection for a change like that.
I would even argue that Arthur acted selfish because he only did good things to feel better about himself and the life he lived.
John's mother died during child birth, his father died when he was 8 years old. That's what brought him to the realization that Jack needed a father (and a mother) to break out of the vicious cycle. He returned because of Jack, not for himself.
It was at this point John's values changed. There is nothing strange or inconsistent about that.
From that point on, his main priority in life were Jack and Abigail.
He stayed with the gang because he had no other opportunities, unlike Arthur who had a family outside of the gang but chose to stay.
You can't blame Jack's development on John alone. The boy grew up surrounded by outlaws. His father was killed by the lawmen he worked for. John did the best he could.
Also, calling Jack a criminal is not really justified. We barely know anything about his character. There are no story missions with him as the protagonist that would tell us anything about his circumstances.

Interestingly, this wouldn't have had the same emotional impact WITHOUT Rockstar's true ending.
The sentiments towards THIS ending are so incredibly powerful because there was a much sadder version before.
So, due to that deep sadness we felt back then, on that hill, at sunrise, the feelings we have now, even if for a passing second, are of an overwhelming happiness.
There is definitely a version where we feel the incredible sadness, but then also get a happy ending with Arthur afterwards though. The story would have to change a fair bit, but it's possible.
As it stands now, I feel nothing but sadness. Arthur is gone. We know in a couple years John is going to die and then quickly after Abigail dies. It's not even bittersweet. It's just depressing lol.

People like Dutch sooner or later get their friends/family into trouble, because of their constant desire to "be someone powerful"/"be important", to be a leader for everyone else and to have people around them support their "adventures" and vision ideas. But when people around them begin to question their ideas, such dudes can simply go crazy, because they lose their "authority" first of all in front of themselves, as if someone publicly shamed them to the core. I believe that Dutch would still cause problems in any case, because people like him just can’t live without it.
My own guess is enough for me, that even if they achieved their Tahiti dream and everything was consistently good, he's unlikely to let his people just go off and live their own lives, because it's only his gang that gives him the authority he so desires, and without which he will become an ordinary man. That's why he began to listen Micah more and more, ‘cause he never questioned Dutche’s ideas like everyone else, and that's why he started to become unstable so easily.

And in the first RDR it’s even worse, using they’re cause to basically justify the worse crimes.

Dutch was a good man, (or at least had good intentions) the fact that he adopted both John and Arthur proves it, yet he always had dark thoughts, and in general was a psycopath, Micah was practically the impersonation of his dark side, always there to push him to do things he normally wouldnt.
Dutch always had Evil Thoughts, that he tried to maintain hidden ever since it started going downhill, Micah was pretty much throwing gasoline into the fire, which eventually lead into the gangs downfall and disbanding.
without Micah, that dark side never got bigger, Dutch never got greedy, and they didnt get as sloppy as they got.

Plus a leftover 300$ in money after robbing 2 trains back to back and leaving to upgrade attachments (not customize) onto all my current guns so far in Chapter 2.
Edit: I also have a gold ingot as well, and all this loot I gained was done without me even making it to/past the Downes debt collect mission, Sean bounty hunter rescue, Hosea wagon fencing and Swanson finding mission

The fact that this was the ending Arthur truly wanted for himself; to run away from a life of crime and wrongdoing to live in peace and with Mary; ugh damn, it just breaks my heart that that whole dream was unreachable for him.
To be honest, I don't think this is the ending Arthur Morgan dreamed of.
His attachment to the gang was far too strong for him to go his own way and become a rancher.
Especially not without the tuberculosis, that lead him to reconsider his life.
Think about it for a second.
Even at the end of chapter 6, when the gang was practically already doomed, Arthur returned to Beaver Hollow to confront Micah.
All the women, Jack, Pearson and Reverend Swanson had already left. John was assumed dead. At that point, there was no one or nothing left to save.
I am convinced that, if he was given the choice, Arthur would have wanted to continue his life as an outlaw in the Van der Linde gang.
I beg you to not reduce John to something that he isn't.
John's only function is not to honor Arthur's legacy.
He worked and fought to realize *his* dreams, not Arthur's.

Arthur was a wild man. He'd never have settled down. John wouldn't have either if Abigail wasn't constantly there to whip him into it and use Jack as emotional blackmail. Arthur didn't have Mary around much to do the same to him, they had no real connection beyond a failed engagement, and it's clear Mary had no interest in staying with him unless she needed someone to turn to for help with an issue she couldn't solve. She wasn't a good or loyal woman.

This is the exact life he wanted. It wasn’t until it got extreme that he really pushed to figure out what’s happening, he wanted the ppl he cared about safe before he made his exit. When that happened he was more than likely going to live his life in peace. Start a new family and settle down again. Please this is such a good game, he was longing for change since the start of the game! Play it again and pay extra close attention to details don’t just rush through it like so many do

Now we know what Arthur saw when he said John won on the side of that mountain, because Arthur in the last moments of his life, saw what could have been, and knowing since he didnt get away but John did, he knew that it would become Johns destiny, all he had to do was keep talking, keep Dutch and Micha busy, just long enough for John, Abigail, and Jack to get a nice head start from them and the Pinkerton's and get as far away as possible. And all through the story Arthur knew he wasn't supposed to make it. After catching Tuberculosis he knew his time would be cut short. The moment he decided to help John and Abigail he already knew what he had to do he just didnt fully realize it yet. And having seen what might have been, to give John and Abigail the life he knew impossible for himself. Seeing this vision would have given him solace knowing what he was doing was the right thing. In that moment he knew he had to do and to take his place among history's tragic heros, with his dying breath's tell Dutch and Micha that John won. Giving Arthur....Redemption

While this is awesome and a happy alternate story for Arthur, I believe the whole reason this touches so many people is because of how well of a story Rockstar wove for Arthur. The wild west was brutal and unforgiving, ending in tragedy for many and they gave us exactly that.
Very true! It's also called Red Dead REDEMPTION for a reason lol. We have to remember that these were bad men, no matter how much we love them. There probably wasn't going to be any real redemption for them and all of the horrible, horrible things they did without death.
But, both Arthur and John died protecting those they loved and they redeemed themselves!

Charles moved to Canada found a woman and started a family and lived happy life up until he died in 1941 and Sadie married a revolutionary in the south and lived on a ranch until she died in 1936 in bed surrounded by loved ones (they also both kept in touch with Beecher's hope ranch up until they passed)

The way I interpreted this, seeing as a lot of these characters are also dead, is that this is Arthur's afterlife. He corrects his mistake of freeing Micah, he marries the woman he loves, he can finally be a real father, and he's at peace.
Maybe they mande a cenario where the Saint Denis heist was scucessfull because Micah didnt snitch on the gang. They get a lot of money and the gant splits up

After Arthur Abandoned Micah and left him to hang in Strawberry despite Dutch's wishes, Micah eventually broke out of the cell by his own wits and chance.
After Returning empty handed, Dutch was evidently furious, but somewhat understanding of Arthur's standpoint, and decided to think of an alternative plan to rescue Micah from the law. At this time, Micah somehow escaped through sheer wits and chance, eventually returning back to the camp.
Although relieved that Micah had made it back, Dutch wasn't too happy about him stirring so much trouble, and decided to excuse Arthur, and asked Micah to make up for his mistakes by assisting Mr.Strauss in his loan sharking business.
Micah eventually caught Tuberculosis after confronting Mr.Downes, and his health began to decline. His lack of use made him feel even more rejected in the camp as he isn't able to do tasks as independently as he used to be able to, and eventually fell out with the gang. He died a few months later due to TB.
The Van Der Linde gang continue their business as usual, stirring up trouble and accumulating wealth in an effort to live a life free from law and government. A few months after, The Van Der Linde gang continued as usual, albeit still hunted by the Pinkerton Detective Agency. Abigail Robert begins to grow frustrated at the Outlaw life as she considers the well being of her only son, and decided to discuss with her husband about it for some time.
Eventually, John expressed his thoughts to Arthur about Abigail's wishes to break off from the gang, and Arthur, understanding John's perspective, decided to at least let him have a normal life, and brought him to Dutch.
Although Dutch was reluctant about the idea, he eventually decided that he can grant John and Arthur's request to break-off from the gang so that John's family can have a normal life. Arthur agreed to go with John, much to Dutch's reluctance, but with all Arthut had given, he figured that he can atleast liberate Arthur from his dreams of being an Outlaw. He provided them with some funds from the Chest, and wishes them good luck.
During this time, Arthur reconciled with Mary, and after some persuasion, Mary decided that she'd like to run away from her Family and be with Arthur.
Years passed by; John's Family, Arthur and Mary eventually led a somewhat nomadic life. Constantly moving around places in an effort to not be recognized by the law. At some point, Abigail read about a land in Beecher's Hope, and thought that it may be a good place to settle down. At some point around this time, they met Uncle, who is seen drunk around Blackwater. After catching up about the gang's well being, Uncle heard about their plans to settle down in Beecher's Hope, and decided that he wants to help them as he had experience and knowledge on such a field.
Through Uncle's guidance, John and Arthur eventually built the Marston Ranch, where John, Abigail, Jack, Arthur, Mary and Uncle will be living in.
Arthur eventually mustered the courage to properly propose to Mary, and she accepted his offer. Word got down to the Van Der Linde Gang through Uncle, and Dutch, along with what's left of his gang, decided to attend Arthur's wedding.
Shortly after that, Arthur and Mary were blessed with a son, who he holds dearly, and promises to do right by him this time around as part of redeeming himself from his past. At some point, Arthur met Rains Fall, who is still recovering from the death of his son. After some catching up, Rain Falls mentioned that they are moving towards Canada, and suggested that Arthur may be able to bring his Family there for a better life.
After some discussion with his wife, they eventually decided that they would like to broaden their horizons, and migrate to Canada, where they'll properly start over again with a life free of the constrains of Arthur's status as a former outlaw.
Due to the Pinkerton Detective Agency's utter failure in bringing down the Van Der Linde gang, their funding were cut by Leviticus Cornwall, and they are forced to continue their operations in a significantly smaller capacity than before. Their efforts in uncovering the Van Der Linde gang's location were futile, and does not come close to having enough manpower to arrest John Marston forcefully. They had switched their focus to lesser gangs and outlaws since then.
Life continued as normal, with a new century proceeding to uncover itself, and so does a new horizon begins to break.

One of the things that are just as sad as Arthur's death is how Dutch was absolutely ruined mentally by Micah. Micah is the reason everything went wrong with the gang, and why every plan Dutch ever made failed. He was such a good character at the start of the game and almost like a supportive father figure to Arthur and John.
In a way, maybe Arthur's TB made him realize how much of a bad man he was and then when he knew that he didnt have much long in the world he decided to spend his last days doing good helping others he hurt like m.s downs and attempting to save whats left of Dutch and the gang, the tuberculosis gave him a chance at redemption a chance that he no doubt took. Charles said it the best "he is where he wanted to be, on a hill facing the pretty sun."

Arthur in my mind at least was a shitty and pretty horrible person ( still far better than Micha for example but not nearly kind hearted as charles , if you remember no matter how good of a Arthur you play if Charles wasn't there during the camp move to Lemoyne he would've abandoned that woman and her kids and left their husband to die) whos only redeemable quality was his sense of guilt over what hes done and his loyalty until the TB , To me he did acts of kindness in a vain attempt to make up for all the acts of evil he did and is a incredibly hot tempered man quick to anger and violence and only helps if directly asked or put on the spot and guilted into feeling bad. Once diagnosed with tb i play him as someone who realizes all hes done and where its gotten him and who wants to truly do good just for the sake of doing good as a way to say sorry to the world and himself.

I think what he means is that each Character has such a distinct way of moving and behaving themselves, that seeing Micah with Arthurs animations feels odd
Emotionally, I would've loved this ending in the game. But to folk saying there should be a an option to live at the end - part of the reason people got so emotionally invested in Arthrur was for the descisions he made when he knew he was going to die. Facing your own mortality changes him and I don't think we would've got that same connection without the TB story line. Amazing video though, hit me hard seeing Arthur and John putting the house together.

That's what most people fail to understand. It's the tragic moments in stories that have a bigger impact and make us appreciate the character even more.
I suppose but even without the TB he was definitely seeing how crazy Dutch became and the rest of the gang blindly following and wanting to distance himself and get out, especially before he was diagnosed and he went to the show with Mary you could see he was tired of it and wanted some normalcy. He was also more level headed compared to some in the gang like Bill or Javier

I think what makes Arthur’s story so compelling is that even though his sacrifices for John were in vain, he still made the decision to be a good, honorable man. At the end of the day, Arthur chose his own fate, and believed that love exists.

That was one of the main points of the game: The arrival of civilization marked the end for the American Wild West and Arthur's way of living.
John was not so attached to the gang and his former way of life.
His family was not the gang but just Jack and Abigail.
He only stayed with the gang because he lacked the opportunity to leave together with his son and wife.
That was unexpectedly satisfying and emotional.
My only disappointment, however, was NOT seeing Micah run over by a trolley when he keeled over.

I actually read fanfic where Arthur kills Michah sometime after freeing him from the jail at Strawberry. It's not completed fanfic, but the premise was interesting. It's also set up as an Arthur/Sadie pairing fanfic.

Plot Twist: Within this alternate ending, John would have to inevitably hunt down Arthur to finish off the last of Van der Linde gang, creating an even more tear jerking ending for Arthur
In my new official head canon after seeing this video, the ranch that Mary and Arthur make for themselves is up in Canada. So when the detectives come to John later to hunt everyone down, John tells them he died a while back. And since they haven't seen him in a while (cause Canada), the detectives believe him. So John protects Arthur, just as Arthur had done for him so many times growing up and boom, he still gets his happy ending.

Strange. I disliked the story quite a bit for the foolishness, blindness and stupidity of the characters.
Lol I tried to give it a second try but I couldn't bring myself to see Arthur die again so I stopped at the swamp camp and decided to explore and get into shenanigans.
This is perfect enough for me to accept that this is the actual ending of rdr2 : )
Tbh it wrecks the story for me, ruins the story rockstar was trying to tell, it wouldn’t have hit harder if he didn’t die, they’re not telling a happy story, more of a depressing story about a group of outlaws in a world that doesn’t want them anymore, Arthur was never gonna change, he’ll always be an outlaw, I think he wants to change, he wants to be a good person, but he’s not and he knows this, but with the time he has left, he helps his friend change his life and escape with his family, that’s why that scene when Johns leaving to go kill micah gets me a lot too, because he doesn’t expect Abigail to understand, he knows he shouldn’t but he can’t let Micah go, games a 10/10 story is some of the best I’ve ever played
@@bigguy2548 It does not, from a perspective of story telling the team at rockstar did it perfectly, but the fact that people are so invested in a different ending tells lots of how well arthur character did, is a flesh out charactr TB or not, people want him to live becuse they had the connction even prior to hi TB, the game on its name is about redemption failed redemption indeed but here is the thing, is also about how people percieve themselves in different situations, take dutch and his ream or any peron from the gang, I get that the story Rockstar told was one that couldnt change arthur, but having other vrions other stories and wishing to make them true is a proof that the concept is ell done, I doubt RDR2 would be ruined by any fleshed out altrnate ending, we now from playing and seeing this that if Micah took that job this could have happened, Arthur would still be with the gang some wouldnt have died and he himself woul still be an outlaw but also some other things were changing in arthur so sooner or later maybe a good thing would have happened, thing is it didnt, just like life, there is only one outcome once it happens that s the point of the game, but the game is good enough for us to know there were other possibilities and that is also important in a game.
Well i really imagine if we can choose Micah to collect the debts !!!!

@@EstebanBrenesV i disagree. His looming mortality changes things in the game. With his time ending arthur knows that what he does in these last few months will be the legacy he leaves behind. He can either decide to continue on his dark path or turn over a new leaf. Tb makes him what he is.

Nah that wasn't his son. Arthur actually took on a job as a private tutor, because even though he wouldn't have admitted in the past his penmanship and drawing skill is certainly remarkable for the time. That boy I believe is the son of a man who once worked in the mines of Annesburg but quit after a kind stranger gave him a treasure map with which the man found a chest full of gold bars worth thousands of dollars. He and his family moved to Blackwater afterwards and decided to let the boy get tutored by locally known artist and teacher Arthur Morgan, who offers to teach people how to learn to read and write as well as riding horses. Truly a great man.
