  • @markmawson1
    @markmawson1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice old drill press you got yourself there Martin especially with it having a No2 Morse Tapered shaft drill chuck spindle, That slot through the spindle is to stick a wedge through it and knock the chuck off it rather than hitting the chuck its self, Keep the excellent content coming

    • @RetroHax
      @RetroHax  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I know Mark but it didn't come with the tapered wedge so I'll have to get one.

    • @markmawson1
      @markmawson1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RetroHax make one out of a piece of thin flat bar and temper it that's all i did mate

    • @m.s.l.7746
      @m.s.l.7746 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@markmawson1 "temper" is when you partially normalize the substrate after hardening...probably meant "quench gardening"...which does nothing to mild steel, now you could carburize it & then heat treat & temper... The easiest option, besides than leaving it soft to not damage any precision ground surfaces, would be to just case harden it & be done though.

    @christurnblom4825 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Damn! Considering all the work you did, you should have considered making it into a mini-mill.
    I'm just about done restoring a Smithy mill/lathe combo that spent a few years on sombody's junk pile that my friend picked up for $200 ...wich was probably too much. Fortunately it didn't need grinding or scraping and the paint job was so good that I just left it. I might fill in some minor dings in it later but I didn't think anybody still did great paint jobs like that.

    Dang int! You've started off well but haven't finished this. Only thing I can do now is to subscribe. Very much looking forward to the next part(s)!
    This drill does make me wonder just how much green paint was left over after WW2...even as a kid here in the US, in the late 60s early 70s, there was still new machinery being made in that color. I suppose it makes sense to use it up and if something needs to be painted but not fashionable it's as good a color as any. Or, was the green the primer?

    • @RetroHax
      @RetroHax  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think it was primer as the power switch is green as well.

    how about restoring old machines and tools that they dont make anymore,something worth bringing back,drill presses are still identical to this so its not worth the effort, and its not interesting enough that id listen to you grunting and breathing in the microphone the whole video
