It's 2018, and I am 31. As an immigrant from China, I grew up listening to her songs as a way to study English. After living in the US for 12 years, I still find Karen as one of my all-time favorite singers. She has such ease in her powerful and beautiful voice that penetrates the soft spots of your soul and heals all your sorrow. She might be way before my time, but great music can touch people through time and across continents. R.I.P. Karen
My wife Susan of 48 years and myself use to sing this song together because she loved Rainbows She passed away a few years ago and every time I see a Rainbow I think of her ❤
My Dad loved Karen Carpenter and when we lost him earlier this month, this was the song that came on in his final moments of life. He couldn’t speak those last couple weeks and I think that this was his way of telling us that he was going to be okay. People always say things happen for a reason and I know that there’s a reason this song came on. It gives me so much comfort. Rest in peace, Daddy. I know that you found it.
Fun Fact: I worked with a young child who we’ll call “E.” He was diagnosed with autism. I was an ABA Technician and was trained to help him express himself in ways “we” would understand. He loved to play in the sand. He LOVED the water and so did I. He NEVER listened to me unless we were doing something of the sort. I discovered he LOVED The Carpenters. Explicitly “the rainbows song 🌈.” We listened to it RELENTLESSLY mostly because he loved it, but mainly because I loved to sing it to him (I can sing WELL). We connected tremendously and I believe it was due to this song. I’ll never forget “E.” 🌈💜

such a lovely voice such a lonely lady. Hope she gets the answers that she was looking for and the opportunity to sing as loud if she wants to.. if I should be lucky enough to meet her I give her a hug and ask her what she didn't get on Earth that she needed.
I really wish that the two had worked together for an episode of The Muppet Show or a special that starred both The Carpenters and Muppets similar to the one with John Denver. Karen and Kermit singing Rainbow Connection would have been pure gold.
The winter before my favorite cat died I used to rock him, whenever he was restless, and sing this song to him. The notes of the Rainbow Connection are now filled with memories of his purring and clinging to me and looking up at me with his big green eyes, as though I was making something better. Maybe it's sappy. Unless we find the Rainbow connection in our love for each other. Be it for a pet or a human being.
Rachel.... there is no doubt in my mind that you made something better with your cat... you have great compassion and caring.. change for no one and keep this song alive in your heart..because I know in mine that your cat really appreciated your kindness and compassion!!
How sad to know that Karen did not like this song, everything she sang, was, well, still is out of this world. A beautiful song, the most amazing voice, just another wonderful legacy left for us. Thank you Richard Carpenter for allowing this to happen.

My favorite song ever ❤. This is my first song that I sang way back 2006 when I was in the Bahay Tuluyan ng mga Bata located in Dasmariñas Cavite. I still remembered those people who love me singing that song to them. They said that even I slept I am singing that song 😅. So sweet and happy memories of my childhood days.❤
I love the Carpenter's version of this song. I first heard it on their Carpenters Gold album. Karen's voice is perfect in this song. I knew it was originally unreleased and was finally released by Richard years after Karen died, but didn't know it was a first cut vocal track and not a final recording. Her voice sounds perfect just the way it is. Sorry to hear that Karen didn't like this song, but the song makes this Carpenters fan very happy. The Carpenters also had another hit with a song first sung by the Muppets. The song "Sing" was written for Sesame Street and was originally sung by the Muppets on that show in 1971. The Carpenters recorded and had a hit with it 2 years later.
She was my favorite singer when I was growing up. I could hardly wait for a new Carpenter album to come out. I thought she was beautiful. This song just reminds me of how much I miss her. The first concert I went to was a Carpenter one. Sigh.
This song brings me to tears almost every time I listen to it; it is a beautiful rendition and what Richard did to finish the song is absolutely flawless.
I have heard many versions of this song, and have heard some very wonderful renditions. But this version by far is my absolute fave.Karen Carpenter sung this song with out effort..it just flows..its truely an amazing and wonderful voice she has.. THERE will be no other like her..we were blessed to have her for 33 very short years..i know i have listened to this version at least 100 times..and i never get tired of it..its just so BEAUTIFUL..May god hold you in his arms Karen.you are very missed :(
This was recorded at a time when I knew The Carpenters who were customers of mine at Paramount Camera, in Downey. I was there when Rainbow Connection and Those Good Old Dreams were recorded - for Made in America. (Karen invited me to the studio.) I remember that she HATED Rainbow Connection as it was "Another Sesame Street" song and she wanted to be known for more sophisticated music. However "Sing" was a huge hit for The Carpenters and it also came from Sesame Street. It wasn't until years later that I heard Rainbow Connection on a compilation CD and thought, "Karen is going to have God strike Richard dead!" Even though Rainbow Connection is a childish song, her professionalism stands out - as it does with everything she recorded! We all miss Karen!
But that's what made Karen such a spectacular talent. She hated Rainbow Connection and Solitaire. AND YET she sang those songs as if they were coming straight from her heart!
Mark Halburn come on, are you really willing to spout off what she would say all these years later. shes awesome and really only she can say what she thinks. please let her memry rest in happy joyful robes
No dont wish you were not .... there is a purpose for you... you wont know it until it shows itself some day unexpectedly ... watch and remember this I s aid
I was early in my teens when I first saw and heard Karen sing, I fell in love with her right away, and after listening to this song it brings it all back!!!!!!!! WOW!!!!!!!! I still love you Karen!!!!!!!!!! With that beautiful voice I know you have found your rainbow!!!!!!!
I can’t stop thinking about her and her voice is really amazing 😻 I’m so amazed where’s it’s coming from heaven she’s so blessed to have an Angelic voice… it was so saddest of my life when I’ve heard that she suddenly gone forever…
Incredible after all these years I had always thought that The Rainbow Connection was made specifically for the Muppets Movie. Hearing and looking it up found the Carpenters sang it first. Love Karen's rendition of it so beautiful. Still miss ya.
It was written by Paul Williams for The Muppet Movie, and originally sang by Jim Henson as Kermit The Frog in 1979. The Carpenters covered the song in 1980 the following year, as did Judy Collins.
Anything that KC touches, it becomes her anthem, may it be a children song or adult music it turns out to be a gold and never forgotten. That is the artistry and caliber of this beautiful lady.

Why are there so many songs about rainbows and what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions, and rainbows have nothing to hide
So we've been told and some choose to believe it
I know they're wrong wait and see
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection
The lovers, the dreamers and me
Who said that wishes would be heard and answered when wished on the morningstar?
Someone thought of that and someone believed it
Look what it's done so far
What's so amazing that keeps us stargazing and what do we think we might see?
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection
The lovers, the dreamers and me
All of us under its spell
We know that it's probably magic
Have you been half asleep and have you heard voices?
I've heard them calling my name
Is this the sweet sound that calls the young sailors
The voice might be one and the same
I've heard it too many times to ignore it
It's something that I'm supposed to be
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection, the lovers, the dreamers and me

Believe it
I know they're wrong wait and see
Someday we'll find it
The rainbow connection
The lovers, the dreamers and me
Who said that wishes
Would be heard and answered
When wished on the morning star
Someone thought of that
And someone believed it
And look what it's done so far
What's so amazing
That keeps us star gazing
And what do we think we might see
Someday we'll find it
The rainbow connection
The lovers the dreamers and me
All of us under its spell
We know that it's probably magic
Have you been sleeping
And have you heard voices
I've heard them calling my name
Is this the sweet sound that calls
The young sailors
The voice might be one and the same
I've heard it too many times to ignore it
It's something that I'm supposed to be
Someday we'll find it
The rainbow connection
The lovers, the dreamers and me
Someday we'll find it
The rainbow connection
The lovers, the dreamers and me (someday, someway, I know we'll find it)
The lovers, the dreamers and me.
Few songs can make my spine tingle and bring tears to my eyes like this one.
What's so amazing is, this was her first take, "practice session" on this song. Nothing needed to be improved 😎
“One Take Karen” they called her.... such a beautiful voice
The Carpenters recorded and had a hit with it 2 years later.

such a beautiful voice....I cried for several days when she died....I miss her music to this day
She was my favorite singer when I was growing up. I could hardly wait for a new Carpenter album to come out. I thought she was beautiful. This song just reminds me of how much I miss her. The first concert I went to was a Carpenter one. Sigh.
There has never been anyone else like Karen Carpenter since 1983. To this day, she reigns supreme as probably the loveliest voice ever recorded.
Along with Maureen McGovern..
This song brings me to tears almost every time I listen to it; it is a beautiful rendition and what Richard did to finish the song is absolutely flawless.
I absolutely love this version. Peace to ALL
I have heard many versions of this song, and have heard some very wonderful renditions.
We all miss Karen!
she mostly hated Solitaire
Lucky man to know The Carpenters...personnaly!
What a chance!!!
But that's what made Karen such a spectacular talent. She hated Rainbow Connection and Solitaire. AND YET she sang those songs as if they were coming straight from her heart!
wonder how'd they approach the disco era? and the hip-hop era?
Mark Halburn come on, are you really willing to spout off what she would say all these years later. shes awesome and really only she can say what she thinks. please let her memry rest in happy joyful robes
She was such a sweetheart, she always let her brother tag along......
Richard did the arrangements, using his sister's voice as an instrument. She actually resented the fact that he didn't get more recognition.
Need, thank you for loving Karen so much and for keeping her alive for the rest of us!
Just the best singer of all time. The Rainbow Connection isn’t the greatest song, but Karen transports it to something special.
God bless you Karen, we lost you 32 years ago today, but we will love you forever.
To bad she didn't get to sing this with Kermit,
( Jim Henson ) it would have been awesome ! God Bless both of you !
Holding back tears, and not ashamed
karen sings this so sweetly and lovingly. i love it, toy piano, angel voices, and all.
No words can describe this song and the voice behind it. . .the angels certainly have a gifted one among them
Simply wonderful. Richard's arrangement, coupled with Karen's perfect voice yield yet another Carpenters success.
She was a gift from God. Thanks for posting it. You made many people very happy.
Her reading of the song makes it wistful and melancholy. Sweet, sweet, melancholy.
Her voice had a rich, beautiful tone. Magic!
Our personal lives were very similar, wish she was still here and I were not, love you Karen.😪💔🌹🌹🌹
No dont wish you were not .... there is a purpose for you... you wont know it until it shows itself some day unexpectedly ... watch and remember this I s aid
Simply magical... Pure GOLD!
大好きなドラマの.主題歌。登場人物も,レインボーコネクション・傘を使った,オープニングもすてきで大好きです☆
I agree and I'm 32.
The only voice that can actually make me cry. Her voice tells me the world can be what I believed in as a kid. Sadly it never will be
Jim Henson was a legend and I’m happy that there are people carrying on his legacy
I can’t stop thinking about her and her voice is really amazing 😻 I’m so amazed where’s it’s coming from heaven she’s so blessed to have an Angelic voice… it was so saddest of my life when I’ve heard that she suddenly gone forever…
What a beautiful, clear voice.
Incredible after all these years I had always thought that The Rainbow Connection was made specifically for the Muppets Movie. Hearing and looking it up found the Carpenters sang it first. Love Karen's rendition of it so beautiful. Still miss ya.
Erm .... because it was especially written for the Muppets Movie? I would love to know how you came to the conclusion the Carpenters sang it first.
It was written by Paul Williams for The Muppet Movie, and originally sang by Jim Henson as Kermit The Frog in 1979. The Carpenters covered the song in 1980 the following year, as did Judy Collins.
Hearing this beautiful voice can still bring a tear to my eyes.
Anything that KC touches, it becomes her anthem, may it be a children song or adult music it turns out to be a gold and never forgotten. That is the artistry and caliber of this beautiful lady.
