Ive been running the Osprey for days now, lost many of them. Running high tier gear doesn't make you invincible. It increases your chances of survival, not eliminates risk all together. Point is, only run gear you can afford to lose. Sometimes it makes sense to sell the level 6 plates to help fund a few lower tier kits.
This works I'm just not sure if the cost is worth it when the carriers are like 140k without plates... Maybe so but I find myself using the small thor a lot
@@DarKcS2 yup. looted a pmc I killed. He had the tv110 with class 5 plates… then I died 100m from the extract by the damn scav. Ironically I wouldntve died if I had my old class 4 armor with aramids inside that covered my entire chest. Scavs are way deadlier now.
I feel like that is less about the armor and more about Scavs having weird aim. Feels like they only aim for non-protected areas which gets you killed with pratically every piece of armor
not like it matters now anyway, armor is practically useless this wipe, got 1 tapped by Pscav with altyn and the 6b13 lmao. neck shot. not sure why ppl are nerding out over neck/arm protection because its all level 2-3 anyway, most bullets will still pen through it
@@Newmancrew For what little I played, due to having to use eastern armors I legit started to drop the back plate out of them entirely. They are like 5kg, and my logic is especially with this new coverage is "If I'm getting shot in the back I'm already dead"... which has proven right, as most times I die to the front anyways by getting shot around my garbage eastern plates.
oh man this new armor is so crazy. A few days ago i killed tagilla with one magnum buck double barrel shot. Took me a long minute to figure out that somehow he died
The problem with F tier armor is that you take full body torso damage even though you get hit on a non critical part of the body. If there was a way to make those hits do 60-70% damage they would be less useless... but having even more hitboxes in a game plagued by desync is probably asking for disaster.
6B-23 had been my go-to hard budget armor. When you did the Lighthouse task where you need to go on the roofs, you can barter the tier 5 front plate for 40k and the armor itself is 20k after you sold the plate thats in it. So you got a nice armor for 60k. Add back plate for cheap if you want
Having this many armors in the bottom of the barrel is a problem. I wonder how they'll balance it. I think having the "plate" area be a more vital hitbox, with non plate torso areas being more akin to arms in term of damage recieved
They oculd make the plate hitbox bit bigger or make the armpit/neck area smaller so that all these armours aren't useless. As for now I'm only using osprey5 and uley flora, at lvl 47 lol.
Realistic TTK (nerf human tanks and medicine) and realistic penetration (most top armor piercing ammo must not penetrate the IV NIJ or Br5 armor plate) will fix it. But BSG won't do that.
@@dan1dan225 theyre trying too hard to balance realism or arcade shooter mmo. too many other aspects of the game that are lackluster on the realism to want to have plate hitboxes that are as small and "realistic" as the new ones are, especially when it fundamentally changed how armor worked completely after years.
I think now that we have a more nuanced armor system it’s time they make large protection area armor more punishing in ergo so the minimalist plate carriers don’t become completely irrelevant. Weight of soft armor can also be more realistically reflected. Heck, some design like the CPC can even add ergo in combo with plates since IRL its designed to handle heavy loads super well.
my IRL heavy kevlar with 3a polymer/ceramic plates is 26 ibs and near impossible to ADS with a rifle stock due to shoulder and neck armor Something thats not reflected in game. would tank "ergo" more than running speed. the reason why there is "shooters" cut to plates now
liking the vid for the format alone, having the tierlist already sorted on the bottom so you can just throw the armor into the tier you want and explain why to save time is an amazing idea
One aspect of the new armor system that I'm interest in experimenting with is the option to really min/max for weight, and I think that's where a lot of the "E" tier armors come in. by no means would it be meta but it may still be a niche that these armors can fill. Say I'm sniping for instance, for one thing I don't really *need* that level of protection because ideally I'm not getting into too many direct engagements. But on top of that, I'm also probably carrying around a relatively heavy rifle AND a secondary weapon for closer ranges, my weapons are already weighing me down a lot and I don't want a fully plated-up osprey weighing me down too. Normally I've been running the RBAV tho. perfect balance of protection, weight, and drip.
BSG adding the ability to wear soft body only armor (paca, 3m, etc..) underneath those armor plate rigs in E tier could solve their uselessness. Or soft body armor under hard plate rigs. Besides stripping them for their t6 plates, they aren't worth it.
Huge W content Giga, I hope this cuts down on all the disinformation and noise around hitbox zones and whatnot. Only thing is I wish you had taken a little more into account practical availability of plates themselves; for example the Korund is a mediocre carrier as you pointed out but it’s a cheap way to get class V plates and they don’t go in anything better as a carrier, which makes it a little more valuable in my eyes. Another thing is I think something like the Eclipse has a lot of practical value - available at early vendors, for rubles, and is a rig for Red Rebel and has all the weird magazine sizes covered too. That bumps it up for me.
@@Gigabeef It would also make a heap of sense. In reality literally none of the armors with "Plate carrier" in the name (and some others besides those, too) come with any integrated soft armor. Very, very commonly soldiers will wear a soft armor similar to the PACA for protection from shrapnel and such, and then a plate carrier on top of that for protection of vital organs against actual bullets (and larger, faster shrapnel). In fact, if anything, systems like the Osprey and IOTV where you have soft armor, plates and webbing all in one are actually uncommon, especially outside of military forces - and even actual military forces aren't necessarily going to use that if they can. For instance, I can tell you from personal experience that Estonia went from that three-in-one deal to having a plate carrier with webbing and then a separate soft armor under that. So yeah, absolutely, we should be able to get a PACA, and then put an MBSS on top of that for plates and loot space. Thankfully none of this is particularly relevant to me since I just use the 6B23-2. Eastern plates may have less coverage, but they're also way cheaper, and honestly I hardly ever have to repair my armor after a raid anyway, which indicates that I'd probably be better off not even bothering with class 4 armor lol.
Yeah this would be an interesting system, would hopefully give some options for players (because right now its only a select few armors that are gonna be used tbh), but BSG would need to split up the armor slot into 2 - "Soft armors" & "Plate carriers".
They need to add multipliers to non-vital torso areas. One HP round to the shoulder shouldn't insta-kill you. Make it like 60% of original damage until they can figure out a better solution and the problem is solved.

So I'm trying my best to understand this. At the end of the video it says you don't have to worry about the shape of the armor because of it says if it covers an area it covers an area. Do the plates do the same thing or are the plates actually only protecting their shape? If the armor has a giant hole in the side compared to another one but still has side armor does that mean it protects the whole side or just where the side armor is physically located visually?
Plates are similar but there is a difference between western and Eastern plates. Western is more thorax/less stomach, eastern is less thorax/more stomach. But yes plates basically protect their shape. Side is confusing now because no armor covers the thorax side, only stomach side. This is what is referred to on the soft armor, and yes all armor with side is the same area protected. Side plates specifically can be a bit different but at their highest go right up to the thorax hitbox but never cover it. This is for ones like the osprey. The zabralo is really low on the side plates for example.
Min/Maxing idea... Downside of the Osprey is the weight/penalty. You can barter for lighter/half penalty/higher durability plates after peacekeeping misson called Cult Locust. Swap those in and either sell back the plates to mechanic to reduce the cost OR swap those into the Thor concealable carrier and have a solid PVP focused Thor armor.
if i am not mistaken with elite lvl str it stops counting weight of gun so thats 4-6kg down that can go towards armour :D now we just need to grind elite strenght lol

Hey, thanks for all those guides! They're super informative and helpful, especially for relatively new players like me. Are you by chance planning on doing a guide on armor plates as well? There's tons of different ones, and tbh I have trouble picking wich ones are good and where or how to get my hands on them. Good work Giga. Took me awhile to figure this out but totally agree on the osprey/kirasa and t3 thor. Level 5 plates in the fronts and sides save lives.
They need to adjust non vital areas with different hitboxes and multipliers. Armor was made to protect all the important bits but getting shot in the collar bone or grazed in the armpit area is a kill. This made most of the armor useless and it’s antithetical to the progression of the video game.
TV-110, AA-CPC, etc. do still have one big use! Stash space multipliers early in the wipe. Getting 20+ effective slots in the space of 12 is great in early wipe if you need extra space (esp. for non-EOD folks). Past that, pull the plates and throw them in the trash.
They need to implement vital organ hitboxes for this armor system to be balanced. Like 2x damage on the heart, 1.5x on the windpipe, 1x on the lungs, and 0.5x if no vital organ is hit. Shots that graze the sides of your chest or your shoulders should not be so critical (And the top of the shoulders should really belong to the arm hitbox)
They just need to add one interior hitbox representing the lethal core and make that the new lethal zone (plus head) and just treat the current chest like they do other areas.
Ospray level 4 has been my go to since I unlocked it. Now I use the level 5 now that I have that. Finding level 6 plates in raid and swapping then out for the level 5's makes the armour so strong
BSG could go to vital hit boxes with lesser damage to areas outside the hit boxes (to make thorax armour more viable), but then where does high damage/low pen ammo fall into the game?
I'm more curious about how many of the E-tier armors are decent to scavenge just for their plates to be used in other armors/armored rigs. Or do the shape of the plates itself dictate the zone coverage hence why they're that bad?
Been having a lot of luck with the banshee. I don't know if it's just me that feels this way but it seems like a great budget option that keeps you light and nimble. Killed lots of juicers on interchange just because of the speed difference and tanked their center mass shots with level 5 front plates. For 30-40k for the rig and maybe 10k-15k for level 4 front back and side plates to hold you over until you find better plates, it can't be beat imo.
Great timing on this video. Is there any consideration that perhaps with late-wipe labs when everyone's slinging M995 and the soft armor will make no difference at all anyway, something like a Slick or Hexgrid might become better than it currently is at this stage of the wipe? Or would you still think it will be superior to just put the top tier plates into something with extra soft armor protection anyway?
The Osprey and Thor heavy were some of my favorite armors, I'm happy to see they are just as good, if not better after the update. If I'm going heavy, I'll take either a kitted out Caiman or a heavy trooper for full protection. If I'm ratting, I'll just take a Bagerly with whatever helmet I have available.
6B13 is the most OP sleeper armor this patch. You get this from scavs frequently, for free, it is class 4, it repairs insanely well (that's the most OP thing in my opinion), cheaply, and it is common, heavy and bulky, so noone takes it from your body. Also you can easily buy class 5 plates for it, and they are heavy and bulky as well, so even taking them out of your armor is usually a nuisance for person looting you. Most of my insured 6B13s return to me, even with class 5 plates, and I have to spend 10k max to repair it, and I'm ready to go. And it covers you pretty good, has neck and groin protection, it is ultimate versus scavs, and ok versus players. In meta where you usually get sprayed into face anyway there is no point in taking more expensive and rare armor, especially spending like 200k on them
Imo the Strandhogg and Banshee should have wrap around soft armor protection. Both are fitted with cummerbunds that have built in pockets to take soft armor panels and plates
How did the USEC vest get raided so high? Absolutely no armpit protection and no neck protection? I’m not the most experienced player so I’m sure I’m missing something here
6B13 with tier 4 front and back plates with tier 2 soft everywhere else should maybe be around or higher where the 6b5-Uley is, no? That’s tier 4 soft everywhere. - which seems more beneficial in pve scav situations but stacking tier 4 plates + soft armor seems like B tier at worst? Am I missing something?
I think with armored tactical rigs that dont have any soft armor you should be able to put a soft armor below it like a paca for example would make them less useless :)
all those on the E tier are no good because they have NO soft armor, but they still protect you level 6 to the center of your chest right? what good is soft armor later wipe when every ammo on the field is high pen that would go right through soft armor anyway? wouldnt it be better to have level 6 protection on your small art of your chest, vs level 4 protection on your chest plus a little soft armor surrounding your torso; if the bullets pen all of the above?
But this is the point - nowadays you never have to make that choice. The 6 plates can just go into the kirasa or whatever making the carriers pointless, so it's not a decision of 6 vs 4+2, it's 6 vs 6+2
When plate gets penned it lowers the pen rating of the bullet before it hits the soft armour thats why you can have plate penned but have the soft defeat the round so late game having class 6 with soft 3 may save you.

Even with all the time since the update I still cannot believe there's this difference between the protection area between western and eastern plates. It does sound like something so minute that BSG wouldn't do, or wouldn't do properly. I have almost the same feeling towards the difference between the front plate area and the thorax area, say with the slick.
western plates (classified as FR. Plate) cover more of the thorax and less of the stomach, while eastern plates (classified as F. Plate) cover more of the stomach and less of the thorax. Overall, the thorax is more important to cover, so western plates are better.
Been spamming the Defender-2 with the lvl 5 plates from the HPC since I unlocked Ragman 4, this is very strong, 7.45 Kg only, and if you find a Hexgrid or Tagilla armor then you can get a super nice lvl 6 armor which is 9 Kg by just putting the lvl 6 plate in the front
honestly a few changes to damage should be made to how damage is taken in non-critical hitboxes why would getting shot in the shoulder / armpit deal damage to my thorax? it should deal damage to the arm instead neck shots could have -50% damage but give a +50% chance for a Heavy Bleed on the head
They should split the stomach into upper and lower, alot of these armors look like they protect at least the upper stomach but instead it doesnt cover it at all
I know before today's patch plates were significantly stronger than the inbuilt armor of the same class. I wonder if this is still true with today's changes.
Based on the testing so far most of the time they are much closer, as plates are eating alot less random high pen shots But I need to do a bit more work on it
@@Gigabeef Yep I tested with my friend just now. Plate class 3 they seem identical to soft class 3, except that they lose less resistance with damage. I wonder if ricochets are possible still... I'm fairly certain that was happening when people were looking up during testing.
There are 2 types of plates which cover different area. "Western" type plates are square-like shape and can be visually seen in a hexgrid/slick. "Eastern" have a diamond shape, like you can see in a 6b13. All frontal/back plates in the game are divided into these 2 categories in terms of actual protection areas
What about helmets? I've been using the Bastion + Slap every raid, but find the Exfil + Facemask is the more worthwhile option most of the time. I was wondering about your opinion on best helmets to run either way though!
Could someone explain why armors like Trooper and M2 are higher than E class carriers, if they cover exact same hitboxes and all of them have Class 3 soft armor? Or am I missing something? Great video as usual BTW, always watch your guides video, really helps me with the new systems.
It's been quite a lot of different information from a multitude of great community contributing TH-camrs, but it seems that there is a major divide between the understanding of the new armor system, so I'm asking it here to see if anyone could clarify it with certainty. Does the armor system protect you based on the newly divided hitbox models (throat, neck, armpit, groin and buttocks, etc.) or do they employ the exact visual model of soft armor? On Pestily's video he suggested it to be a complete visual model, and Leviticus mentioned some armor having bigger side gaps therefore easier to be hit in the side thorax hit-box, which suggests that some people understand the system as a complete visual model, and in your video you mentioned it as a hit-box protection instead. Please if anyone knows the actual answer, I've been trying to find out for a while.
Super nice video and tier list - it's exactly what I tell my rookies about armor. One question: In this tier list, the 'Arm Pit' is not fully discussed. My mates and I often died from random shots by SCAVs through the arm pit, so I see some differences between your tier list and my gameplay. Could you share your experience regarding the arm pit?
Arm pit is not coverable by anything unfortunately, it's basically the "thorax-side" hitbox. Best you can do is wear shoulder and hope the bullet goes through the upper arm first
I just run kirasa with T4-5 plates in front exclusively. Only looking to protect unlucky one shot in the neck by trash ammo or shotgun pellets. T3 neck protection is basically nothing against any reasonably geared pmc anyway at this point of wipe
Some vests, like the green Uley, do not have collarbone protection and anything can one-shot you there and it will be considered as a thorax. Naturally, the scavs are constantly shooting there, the developers are great...
A lot of these armors are treated too harshly. Mainly Strandhog and any of the armoured vests with soft armour behind plates, as the shoulder straps somehow count as armour for some reason
I've been making my Kirasa's super with class 4 5 even 6 plates its been fun tanking rounds and people being like how and then getting them back on insurance if I do die cause no-one checks plates
Going by the price of plates and how easily you can obtain them, i don't think this make too much sense. Maybe in a world where you have infinite money. The more efficient the resource usage, the better in almost all cases.

I think many people missing 1 thing about E-tier platecarriers - the actual plate/platecarrier hitbox and how it fits on your pmc. You can compare vests like Slick, hexgrid and A18 on player model and see, that some carriers sits weirdly than others exposing bigger areas On opposite side, you have vests (e.g ArsArma CPC) that fits right on center of mass and you have plate+soft armour (and sometimes side plates) Yep, you re more fragile when we talk about scav lucky shots but does 2/3 lvl armour really matters in pvp?
100% yep shotguns will struggle vs lvl 3 and its important kneck plus when plate is penned it weakens the bullets pen so even with lvl 3 plate or lvl 4 plate it makes the lvl 2/3 soft stronger
@@Gigabeef I don't understand, how is the thorax plate for Korund inferior, besides the fact that you cannot easily find replacements? The area it protects seems greater than the western plates, no? As long as you buy the already plated versions from Prapor, it seems like it should belong at least among the top of B tier to me

its hilarious. armors that were considered god-tier like the slick and hexgrid are now considered the worst armors in the game, and armors that were considered low-tier are now considered viable
We're gonna see SOOOO many Osprey armors amongs the chads and SOOO many Thor armors amongs the rats! Osprey in combination with SIG Spear supremacy is probably what we will be seing for 90% of endgame tbh, the smallest variety in armor/weapon loadouts we've potentially ever seen. The problem im seeing rn is that OBVIOUSLY you want arm protection, atleast if ur kitting for pvp. That means anyone going for pvp will most probably bring an Osprey, or maaybe a Gen4 Assault. Thats it. Thats the full scope of the end-game variety. a little dull, if you ask me. I almost want BSG to remove armors/rigs with arm coverage completely from traders/flea/crafts, let people only find them out in raid. Because rn, why even use a non-arm armor when you could have arm coverage? Its a straight upgrade. its the BEST.

You can buy ospreys off the flea and put in class 4/5 plates. Side plates make you dummy heavy and class 3 soft protects you either way.

found out the hard way to not use armor like the TV110, even with class 5 plates. Was one shotted by a scav with 7.62x39 hollow point.
I got one shot by 5.45PS wearing my first T5 armoured rig! Might have been the 'two shot as one' bug but yeah. instadeath.

liking the vid for the format alone, having the tierlist already sorted on the bottom so you can just throw the armor into the tier you want and explain why to save time is an amazing idea

One aspect of the new armor system that I'm interest in experimenting with is the option to really min/max for weight, and I think that's where a lot of the "E" tier armors come in. by no means would it be meta but it may still be a niche that these armors can fill.
Say I'm sniping for instance, for one thing I don't really *need* that level of protection because ideally I'm not getting into too many direct engagements. But on top of that, I'm also probably carrying around a relatively heavy rifle AND a secondary weapon for closer ranges, my weapons are already weighing me down a lot and I don't want a fully plated-up osprey weighing me down too.
Normally I've been running the RBAV tho. perfect balance of protection, weight, and drip.
We all know that there is truly only one thing that matters when it comes to armor and that is DRIP and you can't convince me otherwise.

BSG adding the ability to wear soft body only armor (paca, 3m, etc..) underneath those armor plate rigs in E tier could solve their uselessness. Or soft body armor under hard plate rigs. Besides stripping them for their t6 plates, they aren't worth it.
Huge W content Giga, I hope this cuts down on all the disinformation and noise around hitbox zones and whatnot. Only thing is I wish you had taken a little more into account practical availability of plates themselves; for example the Korund is a mediocre carrier as you pointed out but it’s a cheap way to get class V plates and they don’t go in anything better as a carrier, which makes it a little more valuable in my eyes. Another thing is I think something like the Eclipse has a lot of practical value - available at early vendors, for rubles, and is a rig for Red Rebel and has all the weird magazine sizes covered too. That bumps it up for me.
Is there any WAY to improve/ fix the E Tier armor to be viable?
Maybe if we could wear the armor with paca like we could back in the days?

In reality literally none of the armors with "Plate carrier" in the name (and some others besides those, too) come with any integrated soft armor. Very, very commonly soldiers will wear a soft armor similar to the PACA for protection from shrapnel and such, and then a plate carrier on top of that for protection of vital organs against actual bullets (and larger, faster shrapnel). In fact, if anything, systems like the Osprey and IOTV where you have soft armor, plates and webbing all in one are actually uncommon, especially outside of military forces - and even actual military forces aren't necessarily going to use that if they can. For instance, I can tell you from personal experience that Estonia went from that three-in-one deal to having a plate carrier with webbing and then a separate soft armor under that.
So yeah, absolutely, we should be able to get a PACA, and then put an MBSS on top of that for plates and loot space.
Thankfully none of this is particularly relevant to me since I just use the 6B23-2. Eastern plates may have less coverage, but they're also way cheaper, and honestly I hardly ever have to repair my armor after a raid anyway, which indicates that I'd probably be better off not even bothering with class 4 armor lol.

Yeah this would be an interesting system, would hopefully give some options for players (because right now its only a select few armors that are gonna be used tbh), but BSG would need to split up the armor slot into 2 - "Soft armors" & "Plate carriers".
They need to add multipliers to non-vital torso areas. One HP round to the shoulder shouldn't insta-kill you. Make it like 60% of original damage until they can figure out a better solution and the problem is solved.

So I'm trying my best to understand this. At the end of the video it says you don't have to worry about the shape of the armor because of it says if it covers an area it covers an area. Do the plates do the same thing or are the plates actually only protecting their shape? If the armor has a giant hole in the side compared to another one but still has side armor does that mean it protects the whole side or just where the side armor is physically located visually?
Plates are similar but there is a difference between western and Eastern plates. Western is more thorax/less stomach, eastern is less thorax/more stomach.
But yes plates basically protect their shape.
Side is confusing now because no armor covers the thorax side, only stomach side. This is what is referred to on the soft armor, and yes all armor with side is the same area protected. Side plates specifically can be a bit different but at their highest go right up to the thorax hitbox but never cover it. This is for ones like the osprey. The zabralo is really low on the side plates for example.
Min/Maxing idea...
Downside of the Osprey is the weight/penalty. You can barter for lighter/half penalty/higher durability plates after peacekeeping misson called Cult Locust.
Swap those in and either sell back the plates to mechanic to reduce the cost OR swap those into the Thor concealable carrier and have a solid PVP focused Thor armor.
if i am not mistaken with elite lvl str it stops counting weight of gun so thats 4-6kg down that can go towards armour :D now we just need to grind elite strenght lol

They need to adjust non vital areas with different hitboxes and multipliers. Armor was made to protect all the important bits but getting shot in the collar bone or grazed in the armpit area is a kill. This made most of the armor useless and it’s antithetical to the progression of the video game.
TV-110, AA-CPC, etc. do still have one big use!
Stash space multipliers early in the wipe. Getting 20+ effective slots in the space of 12 is great in early wipe if you need extra space (esp. for non-EOD folks).
Past that, pull the plates and throw them in the trash.
osprey assault is the most efficient
You mention there is no way to get the The Granit 4 ballistic plate(class5) but it can be found in raid I've got one from A stash on lighthouse.
They need to implement vital organ hitboxes for this armor system to be balanced. Like 2x damage on the heart, 1.5x on the windpipe, 1x on the lungs, and 0.5x if no vital organ is hit. Shots that graze the sides of your chest or your shoulders should not be so critical (And the top of the shoulders should really belong to the arm hitbox)
They just need to add one interior hitbox representing the lethal core and make that the new lethal zone (plus head) and just treat the current chest like they do other areas.

Ospray level 4 has been my go to since I unlocked it. Now I use the level 5 now that I have that. Finding level 6 plates in raid and swapping then out for the level 5's makes the armour so strong
BSG could go to vital hit boxes with lesser damage to areas outside the hit boxes (to make thorax armour more viable), but then where does high damage/low pen ammo fall into the game?
6:37 6b23-1, the green one, front plates aren't interchangeable with Korund and other armor. It's limited to tier 3 specific plate.
I'm more curious about how many of the E-tier armors are decent to scavenge just for their plates to be used in other armors/armored rigs. Or do the shape of the plates itself dictate the zone coverage hence why they're that bad?
Been having a lot of luck with the banshee. I don't know if it's just me that feels this way but it seems like a great budget option that keeps you light and nimble. Killed lots of juicers on interchange just because of the speed difference and tanked their center mass shots with level 5 front plates. For 30-40k for the rig and maybe 10k-15k for level 4 front back and side plates to hold you over until you find better plates, it can't be beat imo.
Something missing from these lists is which plates materials are best to use? Anyone know where I can find this info?

Is there any consideration that perhaps with late-wipe labs when everyone's slinging M995 and the soft armor will make no difference at all anyway, something like a Slick or Hexgrid might become better than it currently is at this stage of the wipe? Or would you still think it will be superior to just put the top tier plates into something with extra soft armor protection anyway?

The Osprey and Thor heavy were some of my favorite armors, I'm happy to see they are just as good, if not better after the update. If I'm going heavy, I'll take either a kitted out Caiman or a heavy trooper for full protection. If I'm ratting, I'll just take a Bagerly with whatever helmet I have available.

6B13 is the most OP sleeper armor this patch. You get this from scavs frequently, for free, it is class 4, it repairs insanely well (that's the most OP thing in my opinion), cheaply, and it is common, heavy and bulky, so noone takes it from your body. Also you can easily buy class 5 plates for it, and they are heavy and bulky as well, so even taking them out of your armor is usually a nuisance for person looting you. Most of my insured 6B13s return to me, even with class 5 plates, and I have to spend 10k max to repair it, and I'm ready to go. And it covers you pretty good, has neck and groin protection, it is ultimate versus scavs, and ok versus players. In meta where you usually get sprayed into face anyway there is no point in taking more expensive and rare armor, especially spending like 200k on them
Imo the Strandhogg and Banshee should have wrap around soft armor protection. Both are fitted with cummerbunds that have built in pockets to take soft armor panels and plates
How did the USEC vest get raided so high? Absolutely no armpit protection and no neck protection? I’m not the most experienced player so I’m sure I’m missing something here

No armor in the game has side thorax (armpit) protection. Every time you see side armor it is for the sides of the stomach.
6B13 with tier 4 front and back plates with tier 2 soft everywhere else should maybe be around or higher where the 6b5-Uley is, no? That’s tier 4 soft everywhere. - which seems more beneficial in pve scav situations but stacking tier 4 plates + soft armor seems like B tier at worst? Am I missing something?
I think with armored tactical rigs that dont have any soft armor you should be able to put a soft armor below it like a paca for example would make them less useless :)

all those on the E tier are no good because they have NO soft armor, but they still protect you level 6 to the center of your chest right? what good is soft armor later wipe when every ammo on the field is high pen that would go right through soft armor anyway? wouldnt it be better to have level 6 protection on your small art of your chest, vs level 4 protection on your chest plus a little soft armor surrounding your torso; if the bullets pen all of the above?
But this is the point - nowadays you never have to make that choice. The 6 plates can just go into the kirasa or whatever making the carriers pointless, so it's not a decision of 6 vs 4+2, it's 6 vs 6+2
When plate gets penned it lowers the pen rating of the bullet before it hits the soft armour thats why you can have plate penned but have the soft defeat the round so late game having class 6 with soft 3 may save you.

Even with all the time since the update I still cannot believe there's this difference between the protection area between western and eastern plates. It does sound like something so minute that BSG wouldn't do, or wouldn't do properly.
I have almost the same feeling towards the difference between the front plate area and the thorax area, say with the slick.
I'm a little unclear on the western vs eastern plates. Can you clarify this?
western plates (classified as FR. Plate) cover more of the thorax and less of the stomach, while eastern plates (classified as F. Plate) cover more of the stomach and less of the thorax. Overall, the thorax is more important to cover, so western plates are better.
You should do a helmet tier list including boss helmets (tagilla mask) there are currently no other helmet guides for the current patch
nothing has changed, you cant mod the helmet with plates currently.

Been spamming the Defender-2 with the lvl 5 plates from the HPC since I unlocked Ragman 4, this is very strong, 7.45 Kg only, and if you find a Hexgrid or Tagilla armor then you can get a super nice lvl 6 armor which is 9 Kg by just putting the lvl 6 plate in the front
honestly a few changes to damage should be made to how damage is taken in non-critical hitboxes
why would getting shot in the shoulder / armpit deal damage to my thorax? it should deal damage to the arm instead
neck shots could have -50% damage but give a +50% chance for a Heavy Bleed on the head
They should split the stomach into upper and lower, alot of these armors look like they protect at least the upper stomach but instead it doesnt cover it at all
any one running without any backplate? I remember the scene from Blackhawk down where they argue about using a backplate or not.
I know before today's patch plates were significantly stronger than the inbuilt armor of the same class.
I wonder if this is still true with today's changes.
Based on the testing so far most of the time they are much closer, as plates are eating alot less random high pen shots

@@Gigabeef Yep I tested with my friend just now. Plate class 3 they seem identical to soft class 3, except that they lose less resistance with damage.
I wonder if ricochets are possible still... I'm fairly certain that was happening when people were looking up during testing.
Main thing tho is soft does stop damage or bleeds but plate will

What does giga mean exactly with western and eastern plates?
There are 2 types of plates which cover different area. "Western" type plates are square-like shape and can be visually seen in a hexgrid/slick. "Eastern" have a diamond shape, like you can see in a 6b13. All frontal/back plates in the game are divided into these 2 categories in terms of actual protection areas

It's been quite a lot of different information from a multitude of great community contributing TH-camrs, but it seems that there is a major divide between the understanding of the new armor system, so I'm asking it here to see if anyone could clarify it with certainty.
Does the armor system protect you based on the newly divided hitbox models (throat, neck, armpit, groin and buttocks, etc.) or do they employ the exact visual model of soft armor? On Pestily's video he suggested it to be a complete visual model, and Leviticus mentioned some armor having bigger side gaps therefore easier to be hit in the side thorax hit-box, which suggests that some people understand the system as a complete visual model, and in your video you mentioned it as a hit-box protection instead.
Please if anyone knows the actual answer, I've been trying to find out for a while.

Super nice video and tier list - it's exactly what I tell my rookies about armor. One question: In this tier list, the 'Arm Pit' is not fully discussed. My mates and I often died from random shots by SCAVs through the arm pit, so I see some differences between your tier list and my gameplay. Could you share your experience regarding the arm pit?
Arm pit is not coverable by anything unfortunately, it's basically the "thorax-side" hitbox. Best you can do is wear shoulder and hope the bullet goes through the upper arm first

I just run kirasa with T4-5 plates in front exclusively. Only looking to protect unlucky one shot in the neck by trash ammo or shotgun pellets. T3 neck protection is basically nothing against any reasonably geared pmc anyway at this point of wipe

Some vests, like the green Uley, do not have collarbone protection and anything can one-shot you there and it will be considered as a thorax. Naturally, the scavs are constantly shooting there, the developers are great...
A lot of these armors are treated too harshly. Mainly Strandhog and any of the armoured vests with soft armour behind plates, as the shoulder straps somehow count as armour for some reason
I looted a front korund armor, I put it in a 6b3 and it has come back in insurance 3 times: people don't check plates.
I've been making my Kirasa's super with class 4 5 even 6 plates its been fun tanking rounds and people being like how and then getting them back on insurance if I do die cause no-one checks plates

Going by the price of plates and how easily you can obtain them, i don't think this make too much sense. Maybe in a world where you have infinite money. The more efficient the resource usage, the better in almost all cases.

The press has been keeping me alive pretty often, just been swapping the rear plate for one from something else to bump it up

I think many people missing 1 thing about E-tier platecarriers - the actual plate/platecarrier hitbox and how it fits on your pmc.
You can compare vests like Slick, hexgrid and A18 on player model and see, that some carriers sits weirdly than others exposing bigger areas
On opposite side, you have vests (e.g ArsArma CPC) that fits right on center of mass and you have plate+soft armour (and sometimes side plates)

100% yep shotguns will struggle vs lvl 3 and its important kneck plus when plate is penned it weakens the bullets pen so even with lvl 3 plate or lvl 4 plate it makes the lvl 2/3 soft stronger

Sapi plate thorax. Class 2 neck/groin isn't going to help most of the time - I'd rather protect more of the chest

Western plate sits higher - you can be shot through the class 2 in a larger area with the eastern ones

Osprey in combination with SIG Spear supremacy is probably what we will be seing for 90% of endgame tbh, the smallest variety in armor/weapon loadouts we've potentially ever seen.
The problem im seeing rn is that OBVIOUSLY you want arm protection, atleast if ur kitting for pvp.
That means anyone going for pvp will most probably bring an Osprey, or maaybe a Gen4 Assault. Thats it. Thats the full scope of the end-game variety.
