What's interesting is that olimar also likely caused the radical change in how Onions behaved in pikmin 3. We saw at the ending of Pikmin 2 dozens of various colored onions all flying into the sky at night like the ones that Follow Olimar. Now in pikmin 3 Onions combine when pikmin are brought together. While not perfect the Pikmin are learning that combining numbers and types seems to be a working strategy.
Also, the onions evolved themselves. In fact, when before the onions were dormant and faded out when you find them, here they are just a bit of trouble. Which leads me to think the onions reproduced as well. However, Flying and Blue Pikmin appear to be extinct in that area, as the onions had to produce more.

Olimar might just be the greatest leader in all of Video games, being able to coordinate a hundred soldiers with ease and in sync. other characters like samus and link can manage their inventories, olimar has a counter for virtually every thing they can throw at him, he truly is a god among men, a god among.....pikmen. :D

Random theory: I think Onions were before Pikmin, and that they evolved to produce seeds that can walk around and give the plant extra food. Eventually those seeds evolved into Pikmin, and that plant evolved into an onion. It evolved into the Onion shape and got the hard exoskeleton so predators can't attack the Pikmin nesting inside. The Pikmin are supposed to be shot out, grow for a while and pluck themselves when needed. Then, after there are enough Pikmin, a few will become Candypop Buds. Then some Pikmin are thrown inside, and the flower absorbs it's current attributes and makes it the same color it is. Those Candypop Buds will grow into Onions (which at some time started flying), which make more Pikmin, which make more onions, etc. Rock Pikmin probably got their tough exoskeleton as camouflage at first, an flying Pikmin are Pikmin that evolved to fly. White Pikmin are probably Flying Pikmin that got trapped underground (and became poisonous due to the poison there), and don't have Onions because they were isolated and when they grew into Candypop Buds there weren't any Pikmin to throw inside.

Thats an interesting theory. What concerns me is when the solid color candypop take one pikmin and multiply. Like does it eat the pikmin and make more from nutrients, or does it clone the pikmin? I really wonder if the pikmin who come out are the same one who went in. Like are they eaten to make another type or just changed (and maybe cloned as well)?

A CGI like the short movies could work, but they need voice acting for a 2 hours movie. They could still make him have unique sounds like the captains had in Pikmin 3 and have something translating them. And also a TV series could work. Just make more 'short movies'.

At this point, I'm going to assume that these videos are for people who have never played the games. These videos typically never contain anything unknown by people who have even remotely heard of the games by hearsay or some simple research on google. As a side note though, this technically didn't have a whole lot to do with Olimar so much as it did the Pikmin. But to be fair, there's not much to know about Olimar.

When my friends told me about pikmin, that it was a sad depressing story of them loss all their pikmin in under 3 minutes. At first I could not stop laughing because how it happened, then I played the game and nearly cried when I lose most of my pikmin in a minute. Now I feel like an ass for laughing. :(

Another game series I will be getting into. Looks very good and very fun. Nice video. However, it seems like you did a video overviewing the plot instead of some super cool fact video of stuff nobody knows. Then again, I had no idea about Olimar's or the Pikmin's stories before this, so no complaining from me. :) Can't wait to see the Bioshock episode!

The Doomsday Apparatus, worth 3000 Pokos, requires 100 purple pikmin to carry, and requires 1/4 of the day to take it back to the ship. I spent hours grinding to get enough pikmin to move that thing, but it was worth it. Not to mention, having over 100 pikmin for the Wistful wild makes taking out the wandering enemies much easier. After a year of playing Pikmin 2 on Dolphin, all that's left to do is get the mushroom in Wistful wild, and Finish the final 2 caves

Fellow pikmin fans... do not panic for pikmin 4, I may not know when it will get released or if it will do something the other pikmin games don't, but I will say this. I am not just an ordinary fan myself, but in a few years, I will work for Nintendo and help with graphic design for their games, and not only that, but I have ideas for a new pikmin game and if Nintendo does take them for the next pikmin game... the franchise will never be the same again, things will change including: a new actual story, more pikmin colors, a new style of gameplay aside from treasure collecting, origins of the pikmin discovered, new areas, a rebellion hero who stands down against his leader and will save us all, and most importantly a new character unlike any other pikmin and will "save" the pikmin race
(Spoilers ahead) Also, in pikmin 3, when you're in the S.S. Drake, if you keep listening to the conversations between Alph and Brittany, Brittany says that if they took off their suits, they'd turn into giants. This means they'd possibly become humans if they were to breathe oxygen.
They can breathe oxygen, just that Earth has too much and oxygen poisoning is a real thing
And because they are so small, it would take less to poison them.

Really, there wasn't anything stopping the very first Pikmin from murdering Olimar and turning him into more Pikmin, I think the only reason they don't immediately attack any of the captains is because their spacesuits kinda look like Pikmin and see them as their own kind.
Although all three games are great, Pikmin 3 is my personal favorite. In my opinion, it has the best Pikmin variation, level design, bosses, and characters!
And controls, don't forget controls.

I'd actually point out that when Olimar revisits the Forest of Hope, then known as Awakening Wood in Pikmin 2, plant pots had appeared with decorative flowers planted in them, suggesting that Olimar and co. are simply exploring the edges of someone's yard, rather than the remains of humanity.
I find it amazing that Olimar, and the Pikmin games aren't more popular. The games are super fun and in smash Olimar is possibly the most unused character, yet he's an absolutely devastating fighter if you're good.

I remember watching this around the time it came out so I was around 7 or 8. I was super innocent and i remember watching the video on the og ipad and the scene right before the intro where olimar (if thats his name) eats the pikman than smiles scared me so badly. I had nightmares about it for a year after that.

how many of you played all 3 games entirely and as such have developed sort of a bond with them just me well anyway i love the little shits and am always brought to tears when i just cant find some at the end of the day and they get eaten. God nintendo and whoever else helped design these games deserve a goddamn award for making me care so much about these things.

What I've always understood is that humanity is very much thriving on Earth during Olimars visit. The little trinkets you find are just a little aged. But the Pikmin just haven't encountered a human yet, most likely because they're so small and they live in remote areas. I've always imagined them in a persons front yard much like little ants going unnoticed to the occupants of the house.
I kinda like that idea, but the Geiger counter (I think it's called?) you can find in the first game is ticking.
Geiger Counter is in the second game.
Geiger counters typically always read a background level of radiation and tick as a result(usually around 50-150 disintegrations per second(dps)), it's only when they emit a high pitched beep that there's a high level of nuclear contamination present(upwards of 1000 dps ) Contamination doesn't directly convert to radiological dose but is a good indicator of the presence of contaminated materials such as those produced in a nuclear blast or in the meltdown of a nuclear reactor.
Olimars Geiger counter is likely calibrated for space travel, the typical dose per day is 2.6 rem which is 8.6 times the natural yearly dose of radiation humans take. One day in space a human is exposed to about 2600x the daily amount we naturally receive.
So I suppose the question is:
If the geiger counter is calibrated for space travel and it's usually reading at space levels, that indicates the earths magnetic field has dissipated and as a result background radiation levels are much much higher, though something like that would no doubt eliminate all life on earth and there's clearly plant life and other animals.
However it is possible the creators had in mind that that life adapted to the higher radiation doses, but still, no magnetic field or a far weakened magnetic field on earth makes adaptation like that extremely unlikely,(seeing as any gamma ray burst from the sun would instantly destroy the entire planet.) and it's probably a more plausible idea that it's just calibrated for Olimars planet's natural background radiation, which could be much higher or lower or similar to earths natural background. Or possibly that the creators of the series didn't take this into account and just created a "generic geiger counter", which would mean it's calibrated to earths natural background and human life exists on that planet.
Like I said I prefer to think the latter seeing as the trinkets you find are hardly aged, which eliminates the possibility that it's far in the future and humans have migrated off of Earth.
EDIT:
Realizing all of this and having completely typed this all out there may be a flaw in the calibration theory I just offered because:
Geiger counters indicate contamination, not pure radiation, and is likely there on his spaceship to help him avoid encountering gamma ray bursts in space. The reason they tick on earth is because of the presence of Radon Gas in the atmosphere which makes them tick at about 50-150dps.
just throwing that in there as food for thought, I might need to do some further research, it may or may not have a bearing on what I previously typed about the calibration.

Even though its been a year, I think its safe to say that humans are extinct. All of the treasures are very obviously aged and rusted, and many areas in the game show remnants of a human structure (the two water areas from both pikmin 1 and 2 show what seem to be ruins of a bathroom) Not to mention you never see any new unaged structures, or ever find anything larger than a foot or so.

random trivia factoid: the gamecubes development codename was Project Dolphin. the name S.S. Dolphin from Pikmin and Super mario Sunshine's Delphino island and race were named such as a reference.

I just realized... there's a theory that the combined onions in pikmin 3 are evolved/more developed versions of the onions in pikmin 1 and 2, which are theorized or be evolved/developed candypop buds which are theorized to be evolved/developed pikmin... olimar helped the pikmin stay alive long enough to be able to develop into these things. This is why the special onions are seen in pikmin 3 and not pikmin 2 or 1. Olimar helped develop pikmin civilization, which then ties into this theory as well. Gee wiz
