- Hello! I'm Scruffy, and today I'm going to show you some interesting trivia about the amazingly detailed models in Pikmin 3! This game really pushed the envelope for the Pikmin series with its modeling and texturing detail, and its experimentation! I hope you enjoy it!

The Drake alone having more polygons than the entire Perplexing Pool is a clear sign that the series skipped a console generation.

Fun Fact about the Plasm Wraith: The wraith's cubic core is based upon natural formations of pyrite that can occur in certain parts of the world. The cube of pyrite, or "fools gold" adds irony to Olimar's various video logs, where he claims that the wraith (or the material it is made of) is made of gold, and would likely be worth a fortune.

I don't think it has the carrots though... at least not in the demo.
I played the demo and they added a piklopedia. I am so happy.
No pikpik carrots to throw, but the entries for each captain are on par with 2. I love how alph has an engineer mind and tends to forget he's looking at natural organic creatures.

So that's what metaballs do! I've always seen them in Blender's add menu, but never tried them out. They do exactly what I need Blender to do for my school project!
Right? I've got a ding dang degree in 3D art and I've never had the opportunity to use metaballs either! Of course, I was more interested in the lighting, texture and post production side then the particle effects and algorithms side.

The idea of a Scruffy video on Pikmin 1 and 2's models and texturing gave me a boner. Actually, that was from something else, but I'm really excited thinking about the cool secrets of the first two games.

Wow, you seem very capable at what you do. Your videos are always gems. You've done sound analysis and model analysis, how about an animation analysis? We've gotten a taste of it with this video. There are many games with amazing animation, Inside, The Last Guardian, Super Smash Bros (for Wii U). It would be intriguing to learn about the techniques used. Anyway, fantastic upload, hope to see more!
There's an idea! I'd need to study animation a little more before tackling an analysis of it, but that would be a neat project. Once I get the time, I would also like to start uploading more original animations here.
I love how you presented everything! Unlike other people, you actually added some humor to your explanations. I also like how the 3D models would kind of react to what you say, like the bulborb.

oh my god, after getting more into modeling and game dev, this video is a gold mine on this platform. and HALF a decade ago no less. I remember watching this going "hm hm" at all this stuff i didn't understand,
which in hindsight i could have used as a jumping off point... (stupid me)
but coming back to it now I actually...! kinda know this stuff. like I've USED them before.
this was found in my recommended, i though it would be annoying and stupid, but this was anything but. I love how much work you put into your video's and your script's. I can hope for nothing but good things to go your ways!

I've only just found this channel, and I've got to say- I've never been terribly interested in the Pikmin franchise (due to my poor time management skills haha)

As someone who's fascinated with the details in every game he plays - discovering your channel and talks of sound and model design was an amazing thing to happen to me! (Even if this one is 3 years old, now). You use familiar musical cues (like the creepy strings and hums of the Formidable Oak when talking about the Plasm Wraith's polygons, or the harp noises from the Scornet Maestro as you show off how every string is individual) and a familiar tone of voice to make these videos fun for people who have played the games... and make the videos have this really friendly and playful atmosphere! Seriously, they're super approachable, and as someone who gets weirdly tense when discovering new sources of information - I had none of that here. Well done! You'd make a great teacher. :D

I find it so cool that even years ago Scruffy’s video quality was still this good.
So they brought back the Piklopedia in the Switch version, but not the ability to throw pikpik carrots. Now they just play pre-recorded videos of each enemy. Which would be nice, if it wasn't a replacement for the more dynamic and interactive version.
I just came here because I know someone who also goes by Scruffy online (and you ain't the same person I immediately realized) and was immediately surprised by how good this is. Pleasant voice and editing and some great humor sprinkled in for these kinds of videos.

My theory on Candypop Buds is that they form when a group of pikmin die in a moderately slow way, maybe old age, as a failsafe so that the species of pikmin might not go extinct.

What if the cadypop buds are actually the final stage in life for a pikmin, their flower grows massive and they plant themselves in the ground, allowing pikmin that fall into it to become that candypop buds colour, and queen candypop buds are a further level of growth to that, maybe even growing into the onions later on

I guess some compromises had to be made to allow 100 Pikmin on the field at once, but it’s still a weird contrast.
