    Of course, this can be done easier, from plywood or other cheap materials or scrap.
    But:
    1) I need it for work out side of my shop.
    2) Only build like a tank can work for me in many-many years.
    3) Rain, snow or humidity... FORGET IT !!! - my rail always straight, flat and smooth.
    4) Never worry about damage when I transporting it in my van.

      Fix it All
      Is going 1/8" instead of 1/4" will make it less strong or durable? Giving new depth of 1 11/16".

    • @jovosedlar
      @jovosedlar 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cesarrodriguez9597 can I answer your question?
      the thinner rail of course is weaker
      I imagine the likeliest place to get damaged is in the van or truck loaded with the rest of the tools. especially if you hire help.
      if it worps kinks and hence useless buy then you have to have to have money spared for a new one (or about any other tool) so you can keep working
      if you are a hobbyst you may find out during following years you "never really need it" or "I loaned it to a nephew two years ago and I don't really want it back..." so go with a cheaper one and the money you save will be little but with that money buy your loved one something in that price range you see fit as a sign of affection.

    Great video of how you made your guide rail.
    If you could just include a splinter-guard strip on the underside of the rail as well as some friction strips to prevent any movement as well as a t-track for clamps if necessary and maybe some some track stops would be good, as well as a method for joining rails together, then had a splinter-guard on the saw this would be a bit like the Festool if it could make really accurate perfectly splinter free cuts that don't even need sanding.

    How does something like this get so many negative points? This is home-made and will give professionally made track-saw guides a good run for the money. What I get from this video: 1) There's always someone coming up with something that rivals expensive items sold in the store. 2) The initial ad-lib methods (blocks of wood) he used to rip the aluminium tube. Thank you for sharing the idea!

    There seems to be a small gap between the edge of the rail and the edge of the blade. If you glue a strip of rubber mat or similar on the underside and then make a cut the edge of the rubber strip will be perfectly aligned with the edge of the blade and will make alignment of the rail to the markings on the workpiece very easy. It will also prevent the slipping around of the rail during alignment

    • @FixitAll
      @FixitAll  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes gap 1/16, and I step back 1/16 when cut materials.

    • @nilton61
      @nilton61 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      My point was, if you glue the rubber strip you do not havre to step back. Just aling the edge of the rubber to the cut you want make. That way you get absolute precision since the edge of the rubber is formed by the blade so you no longer rely on a measurement of the gap between the blade and the rail.

    Good job on this. Here is my ideas. If you want to build this you don't need the expensive diablo metal cutting blade, any sharp carbide blade will work. Use WD40 as a cut lube while cutting the aluminum. Now for the other thing I would do different, Use a plastic block for the slide and don't ad the part on the outside of the blade, it is not needed. Buy a cheap cutting board and cut that to fit inside the aluminum guide. Much better, it slides more easy. Still screw it on in 4 places though, just not on the outside of the blade like fix it all did.

    Excellent! Thinking about the same thing, how to make long, straight cuts without a table saw.

    No skill needed to use the guide rail, but you do need the skill to make it.

      There are a few components to building a table saw. One resource I found that successfully combines these is the Wilfs Wood Blueprint (check it out on google) definately the most helpful plan i've heard of. Check out the interesting information .

    I mean, you didn't make a guide rail for a circular saw. You made a circular saw into a track saw. Great concept and I gave it a thumbs up but I'm looking to keep my saw intact.
