Fun fact: The game was called Final Fantasy because it was the company's last game and it was in a fantasy setting. They had plans to go bankrupt if this one didnt sell well. Obviously, it exploded in popularity.
In other words, this game saved an otherwise doomed company.

Apparently that's a myth, the actual reason they call it that is because they want the acronym FF, so any F word would work. Originally they going to name it "Fighting Fantasy" but that's copyrighted, so they name it "Final Fantasy". Although the "dying company" part of the story is supposedly true.
@@iwannaseehowlongyoucanmakethis final fantasy creator stated that if this game didnt succeed it would have been his "final" game. The continuation and game mechanisms = fantasy.
Another fun fact; this turned out to be the setting of the final episode of the Captain N series. I wonder if that was the intention?

Same. I bought Tactics for PSX blindly, having no idea what it would be about. It was sooo boring. Since then I've become biased towards thinking it won't be a good experience.

@@vinicius401 Tactics is cool, it's just different. For you, I'd say go with 10, 12, or 15.
To think that this almost was the last game Squaresoft made back in the day. They where shortly before bankrupcy and they thought " Lets go out with a bang and create this Final Fantasy. Luckily that game was so succesful that it saved the company and spawned many more sequels and sidestories.
I actually really like the info dump episodes. I've never played a final fantasy game so it's very helpful. I hope you have some more useless knowledge sections in this series.

If your waiting for someone who makes actually "Good" Final Fantasy LPs, watch "HCBailly" he has LP's of practically all of the Final Fantasy games. He goes into depth of each game and is pretty entertaining to boot, he's also Scykoh's inspiration. He IS a completely different TH-cam personality though, but I can attest that he is a grate YTer and my all time favorite
The original Final Fantasy on the NES; hoo boi. Be ready for a whole lot of "is bugged", "does nothing", and "doesn't work in this version".
Honestly, if you don't have a sweet spot for this particular version of the game, it's probably better to go with *any* of the other versions of FF1 though the PS1 version is probably the best to get the full bug free experience as, for instance, the GBA version replaces the spell system with an MP points one.
This version has the most charming way to open/close menus though!
The NES version of FF1 is basically like the first generation of Pokemon: it's a miracle everything even works.
@@jfolmar2004 It's not about which Final Fantasy, but on which platform. That said, I'm not stopping anyone from playing it on the NES, just know many features are bugged or straight up not implemented.

FF1 on the GBA was the best imo. In terms of style and bug fixes. Plus you get bonus dungeons too.
@@armornick Yeah when the developers made this game, they were about as skilled at programming as Game Freak in the first 2 generations of Pokémon.

This was the first ever video game that was mine(ish) - Mum got me a second hand NES for my 4th birthday and my uncle got me FF1 (he was like 12 when I was born and would pick me up from kindergarten while in highschool and is basically like the older sibling) I never/always had) - anyway it was a trap and I got yelled at for "ruining" the game when I would play his file on "my" game that he would play all the time. The music, the sprites, the play, the "why is my party dead and where the hell is my airship" yelling... all core memories. In my own playing a few years later, I developed a neurotic tendency to REQUIRE everyone level up simultaneously - so the icecave would get a few dice rolls because of the sodding cocatrices ... but this real, nostalgic, and wholesome series is the comfort meal that hugs me during random chores and multi-hour cooking (my other therapy) - and I had to get over "crud" grudgingly the same way I had to get over "frack" in Battlestar... and no I notice neither. ^^ Seeing red dress turn up in Lucifer HOLY CRUD she always is set to 11. @_@
I started getting into final fantasy recently and idk why but in every game series im interested in I always have to start from the beginning! Thank you for this amazing gameplay and the explanations of everything!

I've been playing a lot of FFXIV lately and I love how you basically have a light party right there, with a WAR, WHM, RDM, MNK comp. Pretty solid
I fell in love with this game back in the 1st grade. I had to keep borrowing it from a friend but never finished it as a kid. Glad to say I just completed it 100% a few days ago. It's a great game. 🥳

Man it's been a while since I've watched you're new stuff, but I put on a lot of your older playthroughs when I go to sleep (Paper Mario, Banjo, etc) and watching this now I can feel myself getting sleepy just from the sound of your voice lol. Funny how the mind works.

Nice video dude, I'm currently playing through the Pixel Remaster and it was really cool to see where it came from, and man is the Remaster different. The info dump is helpful.

Thiefs are really good actually, they have high evasion and accuracy. Plus it's worth it to have them because the turn into ninjas which, in this game, are basically knights that can cast black magic instead of white.

Interesting team choice! I typically go Fighter, Red Mage, White Mage, Black Mage. Yes, it's an expensive team to manage due to having to buy tons of equipment and magic, but it works better for my style of play and makes it much easier to capitalize on the Pinnacle of Power mid-game! ;)

I love Fist of the North star such a great anime, people sleep on it, but I finished playing Final Fantasy Origin, and it made me want to watch someone play through FF1 glad I stumbled across you the video is great
I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of this series! Though I wonder, will that flickering at the top and bottom of the screen when you move vertically be in every video? It makes it kind of hard to look at. Otherwise, I loved this video and can't wait for more!
Final fantasy has always been that series that was just...there. but I may try to collect some of the games that are like SUPER expensive lol
