      The Rozadan units used to have a turban helmet (shaped like the upper half of an onion). It gave them an exotic touch, denoting the faction's starting point in the very south. The Rozadan halberdiers usually formed the backbone of my armies and during my conquests I grew to like them.
      The current roster has an overarching design theme, featuring majestic burgundy colours and intricate ornaments. But overall, although it sounds strange, it looks a little too European to my eye.

      @@lymeregis4354 Plus the new armors dont carry that same dread the way the old Elite armor sets brought to the field. The elite units like the Faithful and Armsmen were fun to finally let loose on the battlefield, coupled with their voice lines, the intimidation factor was on another level.

    I'm on the fence about the aesthetic changes....For on the one hand I really appreciate how units armor look etc Mid tier units is a huge improvement- However I strongly dislike that the look of the troops is very uniform between units to the point of being nonniticeable from early to mid tier, there is no sense of progression to the visual of your units (on map and in unit card) from early to late tier because early tier units already 'look' very late tier(with low tier stat)-I don't like that, and secondly we lost the iconic Golden Boys which is really sad as they really were noticeable and unique in that way as an uber tier unit, yes there are 'traces' of gold on the armor for those units but it's not the same feel to me they still look very similar to other units in the roster....if it were me I would have made mid to late tier all look Golden to represent remnants of old Numenorean units----Am I the only one that feels that way?

    • @kekero540
      @kekero540 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I don’t think any of their roster is really early tier besides Corsairs tbh. Their early tier units are meant to be the conscript troops from either Harad or Gondor.

    • @KazzoKiller3890
      @KazzoKiller3890 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Nope, you're not the only one.
      While I do appreciate the new look and the amount of work it took to make, I miss the old designs. The Armsmen and Faithful were really intimidating looking units with fantastic unique armor sets that to me fit the dread like presence the Ar Adunaim bring to the field.
      The old armor sets for the elite units really shined when I played as them conquering Enedwaith, like a glimpse into the past when the first Numenoreans landed in the 2nd age and scattered the free people who already lived there. The new look, eh, they look to fragile to me.

Also I’m finding myself wanting to start a new campaign for the most recent faction that’s had an overview 😂

  • @ulfgard4734
    @ulfgard4734 ปีที่แล้ว +42

    I feel terrible saying this, but I have to say I honestly preferred the v4.6 look for AA.
    I mean, the new look is of very good quality, and I'm sure it took a hell of a lot of work; thematically all of the units are super cohesive, as well, which is not always true and I certainly respect that. My hang-up is that they almost look TOO sleek now, and I have to admit I'm really not too keen on the bird theme.
    I feel like kind of an absolute bell-end knowing how much work clearly went into the redesign.

    • @lymeregis4354
      @lymeregis4354 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am curious: What did you like about the previous design? The high tier units used to look very roman and greek, which, though I like classical antiquity, I found overdone and uninspired.

    • @ulfgard4734
      @ulfgard4734 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Honestly, I absolutely see your point. What I think the 4.6 design did well was to clearly communicate a level of very obvious, yet clearly refined, threat in its visual bulk. Incidentally, this is something that I feel the new shields in many of the AA models reinforce, but from which the core armor design seems to have deviated substantially.
      I do see the shift in design in v5 to a more thematic stylization as the black-and-gold bird of prey in contrast to the Faithful factions' ubiquitous sea bird motifs, and I think it's a great move. Where I think it doesn't necessarily land as intended is in how sleek and trim much of the armor for the non-royal troops is; I daresay it reminds me more of modern superhero get ups than even a design with anachronistic roots in much later-period armor.
      I suppose, in simplest terms, the v5 iteration of the armor design it feels like a case study in form-over-function design where the thematic concept was the main principle, rather than the function-before-form design philosophy that seems to have been at the core of most other concepts in visualization of the peoples of Middle-Earth. I say this with the greatest respect intended towards the artist or artists who did the work for v5. It's very impressive work in its own right. I can see the thematic inspiration. Personally, I don't feel like it fits in with the world as it's been presented.
      LATE EDIT: The more I consider my opinion, the more I'm questioning its basis. I need to have another look at the units in their best available armor; it occurs to me that my assessment is so strongly rooted in the early tiers (where the superhero-esque "helmet and pajamas" impression first struck me") that I may well have not given the various designs a fair shake in their fully-realized state.

    AA always my best faction so much flexibility though only two problems i have. I think it needs a campaign to match the flexability. Such as one where you are given the chance to either join sauron and follow through your old grudge agaisnt gondor, stay neutral or potentially reclaim your numenorian heritage and join/help gondor. The other problem was the armor model change that came to Beruthiels watch. They looked so good in third age total war when they looked like crossbow rangers with a black cloak.

    I actually don't like the new AA models. The red is too dark, and the helmets are too narrow and don't really look all that different across the units. Its VERY difficult to tell units apart.
    I understand the argument that 4.6 AA looked like a Greek/Roman faction and therefore felt unoriginal, but V5 AA looks like a combination of grey aliens and Gondor armor knockoffs.

    Why did you do ar pharazons faithful dirty like that. That unit take so long to get and costs soo much. Now they're middle of the pack pikemen? Other than that looks good, but seriously 5 attack? (Especially for a faction of numenorean descendants, that specializes in heavy infantry why sooo weak (and now pointless), just keep training southron pike or other pikes almost as good for 1/4 the cost)

    • @Augimund
      @Augimund  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They do come with a significantly higher defense than the southern pikemen, and a low pike attack is not truly indicative of their actual damage output. Though admittedly I do see where you are coming from, 5 is somewhat low compared to other elite pikes.

    • @craigw6923
      @craigw6923 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Augimund I hear you. The higher armor and defense definitely make them better than most of their conscripted pikemen (and with pike animation attack is more like 15). However, being dark dunedain and focused on heavy infantry, they should probably (imo) be better than or at least equal to Tharbad royal guards. Especially with the fact that due to culture, they won't be as readily available as other units anywhere outside of your first few settlements(at least not for a long time). But that's just my opinion. Units look great, and thanks for doing overview. I can't wait to play v5 (just finishing up a few campaigns in 4.6 first). * Also, my fault, I just looked back and saw that AR pharazons faithful have been at 5 attack (I thought they were 6, at least (in previousversions), but I was wrong). I still think that's too low all things considered (but it's been that way, so again, my bad on that one.
