A wonderful overview once again Augimund, we're very lucky to have you picking up this mantle in the wake of Galu's departure :). Keep up the great work!
I kind of wish Paladin was a bit more unique. The Tooks and Brandybucks were the only hobbits that had a kind of military. When Saruman conquered the Shire, Paladin had a bunch of spearmen and archers to keep Saruman (Sharky)'s ruffians out of Took-borough in Michel Delving. The Thain was a military leader, even if it was only ceremonial.
Thanks for continuing this series! You got big shoes to fill, so don’t worry about all the negative comments. Youre doing great man, and remember you just started. You haven’t been making these videos for 4+ years like galu, so don’t compare yourself. Most of us are just glad this series continues! 🫡🫡🫡
I think it would be pretty cool if there was a hobbit siege unit called Gandalf's fireworks and its a group of hobbits with a cart and poneys an inaccurate grape shot
the way to use troops like these is to have a front line made up of those that can hold a line a second line of heavy shock troops to charge through your front line when its having issues holding and a 3rd line of ranged units to deal with enemies that are still moving to your frontline and always have at least a few fast cav units on the flanks behind your mainline as they can be used to rush out and keep enemy mounted troops or archers that have longer range than your troops busy while your dealing with the main enemy force
I need to learn how to mod in order to modify this faction. All settlements upgradable, building reflecting longbottom leaf or other agricultural bonus, sheriffs using slings rather than throwing stones, hobbits, farmland pikemen being hobbits, generals having the possibility of being hobbits and a hobbit bodyguard other than bandobrass archers, something like hobbit adventurers, merry and pippin were very skilled swordsmen... also maybe an elite hobbit unit, or upgrading the existing ones if you join the dunedain. BECAUSE WHAT IF THE HOBBITS WERE ACTUALLY IMPORTANT?? Also sells words as units if bree is alone. I would even pay to know how to change this, I only want to conquer mordor with freaking hobbits ffs help me pleaaaaaasee :)
agree 100% it was Galu who was against any hobbit unit. I tried to argue that this is already a "what if" situation, and that the bartender was not in fact leading an empire with elite crossbowmen. Great suggestions.
It's nice to see someone that kept doing this after the original guy quit TH-cam and left the DaC team, keep up the good work, even though I just found ur channel making an review on the most hated and probably the worst faction in the mod, your doing great with the reviews for v5 and hopefully for future patches if there will be more from DaC, do you plan on making for all factions?
most hated faction? but they are so wholesome and cute! they just die in droves but can overwhelm with trash haha. currently ive taken most of eregion and pumping out armies with ease, taking on angmar :D
Any thoughts about our lords and saviours Farmhand Pikemen? They got regular pike instead of whatever they were using but their unit size was reduced by (I believe) 51 models.
In practice... they do their job. Keep their flanks secure and they will hold back early game units for you to flank. Just don't expect miracles out of them. Before they were more like a halberd unit without the AP. So a really, really bad one.
Does Arnor get any of the watchmen units with the upgraded armor? I always thought the buy-in for Arnor should be unique roster units. Eventually, I would like to see a similar fiefdom recruitment scheme that we see with Gondor, where we'd see Cardolan, Arthedain, and (non-barbaric) Rhudaur units, as well as the formal military Dunedin units we already get, breeland and the shire being one of those fiefdoms.
1:22 It's pronounced "Mickle Delving," meaning "Great Delving." Like "Mickleburg," the Mannish name for "Belegost" (both meaning "Great Fortress" - I believe Mickleburg was also a name for Constantinople, but I could be wrong).
I plan to return to my playthroughs in the future, but it will be a couple months due to how tight my schedule is during this quarter of the year. Weekly overview videos have been much more manageable for me currently. In the mean time I hope you enjoy the overviews.
If you want to fix the sellsword problem, remove the general_unit from its traits in export_descr_unit Then you can add it to the recruitment slot no problem. Juat if anyone wanted to know Alao there are rebels that will cause devastation in bree region to thw north and to the east of bree hidden in the woods
The issue is that the sellswords are used as the generic rebel faction bodyguards, so another unit slot would have to be used in that case to allow a recruitable version with Bree.
Going with the Dunedain route just seems like a worse version of the Arnor choice from the Northern Dunedain faction. Yeah you get those nice high elf units, but only from Michel Delving and the rest of your roster is just worst than that of Arnor, and of course you don't have access to the full building tree of the Numenorian factions(level 5 armor, 3rd level roads everywhere, etc). The Mercenary route on the other hand is not only unique but makes you the only non Dwarven faction with recruitable Dwarven artillery(yes, Blue Wizard Khand does get 2 Dwarven Catapults, 1 with each Blue Wizard, but you can't recruit any more) which along the tier 2 Dwarven units you get access to makes for a very solid and very well rounded roster. Think about it, the biggest drawback of all the Dwarven factions is their complete lack of cavalry, being forced to rely on weak cavalry mercenaries like the Dale or Rhovanion Cavalries. Brie can readily recruit decent(albeit not amazing by any stretch) cavalry to go along with their Dwarven infantry and artillery units, and the rest of the roster too of course. This is actually huge for Bree, and more than makes up for losing the Dunedain settlements and 1 general Imho. Btw, why does the Dunedain faction also gives you a new general? I thought the mercenary general you get is supposed to replace the Dunedain one that leaves, so the Dunedain route doesn't really need a new general Imho. I dare say that the Bree Mercenary route is actually a very formidable and very powerful faction, whereas the Bree Dunedain route is extremely mediocre.
A quick question, perhaps I’ve missed it somewhere but I’ve heard that DaC is balanced towards VH/VH. If that’s true, what changes if I lower the difficulty to Medium or Hard?
The only changes I know for certain are that the starting funds and kings purse increase as the difficulty is lowered. The AI has been updated in version 5 but I do not know what exactly changes with them at different scales. I exclusively use VH/VH by habit.
@@egoalter1276 Im quite sure its just a morale bonus in battles. This was the last TW where melee is viable in higher difficulties as the AI doesnt get "cheats" to boost its attack/defence.
Suggestion: Get rid of Bilbo's unique bg or let the Green Dragon train dwarven travellers. It just feels like a downgrade if you dont move him out of the shire early and not much of an upgrade if you do.
Sorry late comment, if you choose arnor path, then you can in bree and the southern hobbit village. But if it doesn't upgrade you'll be limited to wardens and archers. I cant really see where else we can build the encampment other than imladris which isnt the best.
this is the one faction I wish was removed so we could have more units or a separate Imladris faction. To me it never made sense that Bree and the Northern Rangers were different faction

Gotta say I think you're doing a very good job with these overviews. 🙂 Looking forward to the next.
Thank you so much for keeping up these videos they help me out so much seeing the changes between patches
I really like your overview videos! this one was very good, keep up the amazing work!
Converting the coziest and most peaceful region in all fiction into Middle-Earth's greatest empire is pretty fascinating...
I love to play a good Bree campaign, very good video!
Thank you for your work!
Btw Will might be Will Witfoot who was Mayor of the entire Shire before Sam ran for Election.
Ah he is most likely Will Witfoot as you have stated. Thank you for this!
Great stuff. I hope the Dale visuals don't change too much in v6, I love their current style so much!

the norse called Constantinople Miklagard city of the gods

Will you be doing a DAC playthrough in the future? I think a Khand (Blue Wizards) playthrough would be enjoyable to watch.

Bree melee troops exist to hold off the enemy, so your range can decimate the enemy.
The mention of forts reminds me. Is there still the building to build fort units?
The fort units were removed long ago, and I want to say their last implementation was version 2.2, though they may have been present in version 3.
can we have more hobbit units instead of 3 versions of axe mercenaries
Hobbits are not aggressive, they are peaceful and smoke grass and eat cakes
