So helpful Laura! My eyes have always just glazed over when looking at charts, but I think they are starting to make sense! Thank you!

I’ve been crocheting for years without the chart patterns. Now I know what all the symbols mean. I can see that the chart would be easier than reading and rereading a written pattern. Thank you so much!

This is great information, thank you so much for making this. Charts make a lil bit more sense in my mind. I am sure with a few more of these type videos it will be much more clearer (hint, hint, wink wink) I would love to see more of these maybe even to follow along with. Thank you for taking the time for this video as I did see how much goes into making video's.

Thank you for demystifying how to read crochet patterns. I had no idea how to make sense of them.Thank you so much for helping me to explore more crochet patterns and techniques. It would be difficult to find time to take a class after work or a weekend. Tutorials yours help you to explore new ideas for a beginner.

Thank you that was really helpful. I am still learning to read patterns especially as a diagram rather than the written pattern. I have a lot of very old patterns that were my nans and have been struggling to understand them. I would love to be able to create my own designs but have no idea where to start. Would love to hear how you do your designs. Love you channel too.

It is funny that when I started to learn how to crochet, I found that reading/looking at crochet charts & diagram was easier to understand rather than reading a written step by step instructions. Maybe I am visual, but I love fact that I can 'see' the end result/shape of the project in diagrams and charts.

Thank you it was very helpful but I still find the charts become extremely difficult to follow when there are over lays in the pattern. I can never figure what stitch comes next. Would love it if you would give a tutorial on working with many running colors in a pattern to create a picture (child’s woodland scene) etc. How we swing the yarn to carry it etc

I have been crocheting since I was 14 and am now 63. I’ve always preferred using charts/patterns over instructions, as they contain standard symbols that can be easily interpreted no matter in what country the pattern was produced.

Thank you for this helpful explanation, but I still dislike the charts. I purchased a book recently of amigurumi patterns and was very disappointed/livid actually, as there were only charts and written patterns with the weird symbols. However, I understand the benefit of the charts as a universal language for those who like them, no matter what written language you understand.

  • @blackberry4778

Hello. Im jpns. yea, jpns crocheters/knittrers need charts first. Crochet and knitting got popular in 1960-1970 in jpn. Jpns don't speak English so that ppl make those symbols and chart. And that's why jpns can't speak English yet. LOL. If you master reading symbols and charts, find lots of crochet pattern for free. Than k you Laura. xx
