I bought a Bergamont Bakery Elite a few months back. Excellent bike. Lies on the road like a tank. Bosch cargo motor, belt drive, kiox display with navigation… love it
Hello....I was on a search about two years ago, for almost a year, for an ebike. You're channel popped up as a suggestion. A 1yr old video no less. So I thought I'd drop a comment... Buying an ebike is kinda like buying a car. It would have to fit my needs and not my wants. This sh*t's expensive! I needed something reliable in the rain, wind, humidity, cold snow, uphill, downhill, road, sidewalk, and dirt paths. For work, groceries, errands, bulky heavy items. I spend a year looking, researching online, reading reviews, test riding at local shops...I ended up with the RadRunner 1, 750w motor, 48v 14ah, 300lbs capacity, built like a tank! Simply easy and cheap to maintain. At the time, Nov. 2020, it was the most bang for the buck! And it still is today. And I just bought an ebike for the wife. The KBO Ranger. It's a beast. 750w motor, 48v 17.5ah, 400lbs capacity! It's roughly the same length as my ebike. Simply easy and cheap to maintain. It was a toss up between the Himiway Big Dog and Radwaggon 4. And the price for the KBO Ranger was the selling point! We haven't had a car for about a year. And it obvious in many ways we don't need one. And I can't get her off her bike to even test ride it. LOL
Yet another well balanced and very informative video, plus the new studio, which is a great addition to the show. Your videos really are top quality. Much kudos to the camera lady and yourself, Chris, for all the hard work you put in, it is reaping huge dividends. If people are to be persuaded to get out of their cars and onto two/three wheels, then the cargo bike is essential. In the urban environment it's necessary to provide transport which possesses the capacity to carry kids, dogs, shopping, wet weather clothing etc, etc. Furthermore, whilst the "standard" bike is fine, even as a solitary commuter, just look at all the junk you carry in your car. If you're going to replace the car, you'd better find a place to store all these "essentials" of life. Personally, I prefer the cargo area to be in front of me. That way I can keep an eye on the kids/dogs and see what carnage the little angels are creating. Also, you can watch for the redistributors of wealth, and ensure one don't take part in their social experiment. As always, Chris, I'm looking forward to your next production.
@@Propelbikes Apparently, Chris, I've been pinned by Propel. I am, quite simply, delighted by this honour. Thank you. It also brings to mind my old pal's doggerel on the sensation of being pinned. The first time I rode a Butchers and Bicycles it gave me a panic inducing moment of somehow counter-intuitively trying to direct me into the path of a bus! And I have plenty of cycling experience.. certainly for the first minute or so its probably best to practice in an empty space!
Great review as always. Interesting to see that more manufacturers are offering belt drives and transmissions. Keep up the good work and best wishes for 2021
Cargo bikes (and e-bikes in general) have come such a long way in these past few years. Quite fancy a long-tail to carry the two boys but my old bike with a trailer will have to do unless prices come down (or I win the lottery). Great video.
my wife likes to ride around with her two - now three chihuahuas in a large basket up front. i think she needs a suspended front end and definitely automatic shift because she never changes gears and she stalls out on hills. i think she would enjoy the speed and extra range an e-bike would provide. these front-loaders look really great for lower center of gravity. i hate the high CG she has to deal with getting on and off and loading the pups etc. if anyone sees this comment, I would appreciate your input.
since you sell in NYC, do any of your bikes have security measures in place for theft prevention? i've already had one stolen, and its painful losing $3,000 for nothing. ebikes are huge targets in NYC, and i'm wondering if it's really worth purchasing another one.
Can you share more about changes to the Urban Arrow Family for 2021? Which motors will be included on the Performance Line and the Cargo Line models? Will these motors still have the 2.5:1 gearing or move to the 1:1 pedal/chain ring ratio? How about battery sizes? Thanks for these great videos, keep up the good work!
Thanks Tim! Much appreciated! We will do a review of the new Urban Arrow family very soon. The 2021 models with have either the Gen 3 Performance Line or the Gen 4 Cargo Line. Both will age the 1 to 1 pedal ratio and I believe the Performance Line version will come with the 400Wh and 500Wh on the Cargo Line.

Bike Friday does make some really great bikes. I did focus this video on what I feel are the best electric cargo bikes, I respect their choice in motor systems, but I wouldn't consider it to be the best. I also wouldn't say it's a bad option either. I really like what they do with the bikes though.

what's the best bike to carry three kids - 2, 4, and 6 - in hills and flats?? inherently prefer long tail to box bike, but fear that three kids on a long tail is tough and potentially unsafe...? Have you ever considered Madsen bike? what would you choose if you were me? totally overwhelmed by options.
Thanks for the video! I have a question about Enviolo hubs. I've heard that with a pedal motor it's important to stop pedalling and wait for the motor to stop before shifting gears, otherwise the hub and cables get damaged. Is this true? Or would it act like a derailleur while pedalling (with the additional benefit of shifting when stopped)? Thanks! Hesitating between the S10 and S00.
You do have to let off your pedaling a little bit. You can sometimes get away with not, but it’s a good practice to do so as it puts significantly less stress on the hub shifting parts. I would recommend trying a bike with that hub system if you have an opportunity.
The Enviolo hub locks you out from shifting if there is a great amount of power going through it, and the less power the easier it is to shift (the shifter feels less sticky). Not pedaling or pedaling without force allows the shifter to turn easily. My experience with a heavy front cargo bike + Enviolo + 450 pounds of payload requires a lot of deliberation of both the power setting and the Enviolo, and that it's often best to set the Enviolo somewhat low and then not change it until you're at a fairly high speed. You also cannot just set the power level to max and hope the torque sensor smooths out your pedaling; often you have to spin really fast while having a lower power setting. Spinning slow with a high power setting with a heavy payload can often result in stalling out if you misjudge an incline with no way to shift down (at least not with an Enviolo).
Enviolo: although it supposed to be continuous, I found I could only do about 6 gears in practice. And when at a stop, I was not able to fully change to the easiest gear, I needed to roll a bit to be able to switch to the very easiest. Am I doing something wrong, or is it how it works?
They seem to be a popular choice for an budget friendly bike. I don't have much personal experience, but perhaps checking out some forum posts can be helpful to learn from others experience electricbikereview.com/forums/search/2636850/?q=radwagon&o=relevance

I have tried the Rohloff so many times on an e-bike, and I didn't like it. I had to switch too often, and several shifts at once. And the electric shifting option was also so slow to shift to the correct position. I find ebikes need bigger gaps between gears, and faster gear change. Is there anybody here who uses the Rohloff on an ebike and is happy with it?
long delay on response, but I put a Rohloff on an extracycle stoker and am happy with it. I live in a very snowy place, so the internal hub was key. Ours is not electric shifting. It's fairly easy to shift gears, but the extra boost from the motor means you can upshift and roll through snow or some hills in a higher gear without sacrificing pedal comfort. I don't find myself "searching" for the right gear continually, but perhaps thats because I commuted on a single speed bike for 20 years. Note: I also have the enviolo hub on an urban arrow. It has been amazingly durable and user friendly. I guess it's not as efficient, but I don't notice it at all. I would only give the Rohloff an advantage for the gear range. It's my opinion that an ebike with a 20mph top speed, you don't need the 525% range on the Rohloff unless you are managing 20% grades with 100lbs of cargo or kids. Put on a bigger rear cog in the back, and you can spin up hills and still pedal up to 20mph.

I haven't so far driven other cargo bikes in non urban environments other than the R&M Load. I remember in the first weeks (I opted for one battery, thinking it enough) driving home with a fully loaded bike and the battery getting lower by the minute. Up here it's always downhill, with the wind when empty but uphill with head wind when full. So it was kindy scary to see the range drop and drop with each climb and still more mileage to go..... I need a cargo bike that does serious hill climbs, all your videos are for flat landers. can cargo bikes really replace cars and motorcycles in the real world. I live in the northwest mountains so serious power is need. Why don't you address this need. Or can't this be achieved.
You’d be surprised how well these handle hills. I recommend you try one out. The mechanical advantage of gears paired with a very efficient motor is pretty amazing.
If by "real world" you mean the places where the vast majority of people live, those are places that are not extraordinarily hilly. Or by "real world" do you mean "everywhere in the world"? It's kinda like the electric car question: 99.95% of all car trips are shorter than the limits of e-cars, but people focus all their attention on the 0.05%. Will cargo bikes replace cars and trucks 100%? I don't think anyone would say that. Can they replace hundreds of thousands of miles of urban vehicle trips? Sure!
