  • Let’s just say not everyone is going to be inclined to tell you everything about the XPedition. Here’s what I’ve found that I wish I knew earlier.
    None of this makes me regret any decision I’ve made with the purchase of the XPedition but it would’ve been nice to have had a heads up about these few items.
    1:47 Fitment of the Giant seat with the Barrow Bar accessory

    I loved this video, especially the content related to the Plus 1 Chair.
    My husband installed the Chair as you have it, all the way back with a pad in front. For context, I’m 5’2”, small build. I took it for a test ride with my 6 year old, and boy was it squirrelly. The back-end fishtailed and overall, the bike was not easy to control. My husband tested it, and although he had better control, he agreed it was a bit squirrelly, even with an adult passenger. He moved the seat to option 2 and I re-tested. What a difference. The bike was no longer squirrelly and I had much better control and the ride felt so much safer. I do see why Lectric doesn’t promote that option. For a newer and maybe smaller rider, that option could be dangerous.
    One thing I do recommend. The bike mirrors. I like being able to see behind me, without having to turn back, especially when I have a small passenger.
    Overall, love this bike!

    A little nitpicky, friend. I go up steep hills every day with no problem at all! I have almost 400 miles on my XExpedition Cargo, and it runs smoothly (gear shifting needs adjusting), but other than that, I have an excellent experience. I have ridden my grandchildren on the back, and it handles them nicely. I am 5'8", and my seat is set for 31 inches and is very comfortable. To rate the bike, I give it a 9.5 out of 10 because I wish it came with a turn signal rear light. Note: I should have gotten the extra battery.

      @@Funcentric I'm grateful for your input, and didn't find it nit-picky at all. I want a cargo ebike, but NEED the hill climbing to be STRONG. Fact is, Rear Hub bikes aren't great climbers, especially with loads, compared to mid-drives. Lots of videos on YT showing the contrast, and it's not close. The nm of torque are important, not just watts of power. I have a Priority Current, and it's great on hills, but I want even more torque and power, so I'm looking at a Dost. Tern HSD would be great, but value over a dost doesn't seem to be there.

    • @Funcentric
      @Funcentric  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jdavies Thanks. It’s there for sure. I’ve ridden a handful of Terns and the quality is superb. Worth the price if you’re willing/able to spend it. I’m not. Power is underwhelming at best. But mid drive allows the same performance of a hub motor with higher torque specs.
      But yes, Terns are mid drives so prices are going to be higher. Most mid drives don’t have throttles. Something to think about. Riding a throttled bike is very different from one that’s limited strictly to PAS.
      The best you can do with gearing is going to be an 11-34T 7 or 8 speed. And or shrink the chain ring. I have a video tutorial on swapping out the 11-28T freewheel on the XPedition to an 11-34T. Much more capable now.

    I watched that live video they did as well. It was clear that some of it was false after getting some of the accessories and seeing all the issues with the Xpedition. The bike and parts after years of in the making should just work. Xtracycle use to be king in the day for all the stuff they sold, worked well, and this was a kit to extend your bike to a cargo bike. I'll say after getting all the rattles and stuff worked out, minus the kick stand, the Xpedition has been working well lately on errands. The frame is very stiff and not wobbly like my Xtracycle and a fat ebike that I tried to mount two batteries on a few years ago, they are noodly feeling and the Xpedition, surprisingly with the low step seems sturdy even with two huge cat litter boxes in one bag, one of the huge packs of waters in the other. And soda, other groceries. Huge step up from my other bike frames. Lectric needs a V2 of this bike however, torque sensor at the very least.

      @Funcentric  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I have only taken my wife who is about 115lbs and we’ve only done it a few times. For an adult on the back or any person, I really don’t recommend speed as being the priority especially in an urban environment. With load I’m usually under 20mph. I think class 3 is over rated for a cargo bike.
      I have another video that highlights why not to get a cargo bike. It will be very fidgety with people on the back. Won’t handle the same on a long tail cargo bike.

    let me tell you my story with the lectric 3.0 bike. i got this bike after I saw the range of 25 miles on pas 3 with pedal assist. all i was getting was 13 mile instead of 24 mostly i drive this bike on a straight road i live in california we have no hills here. i called lectric about this issue they said the range always changes due to conditions. after i haggled it for a few weeks they gave long range battery for only $100. their ranges are not correct on their websites and i think its very wrong.

    • @Funcentric
      @Funcentric  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      The ranges are all short by at least 30% on all brands. But what I found frustrating is that Lectric specifically says, "real world range" on their site and boasts about it. Even "reviewers" (salespeople) on TH-cam don't call them out on it which is way annoying. We need more real people reviews.

Rip Racer then went back in so impressed with the packaging and the owners manual and simplicity of quality and PRICE! When I called they as in Juiced answered my call and I placed an order for the Dual batt. HS 2 Scrambler. The usual cadence is downright DANGEROUS if w/o the Torque sensor. I digress more later if provoked. Question or "one more thang" dual battery is a blender or mix of batts?? Sipping vs. Guzzling of power? Thanks in advance and excellent content!

    • @Funcentric
      @Funcentric  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The dual battery runs both at the same time which is the way to go. Otherwise, you’d just be hauling more weight that you may never use. The benefit of running both batteries at the same time is the reduction in voltage sag. You don’t get that benefit running one battery at a time. Electric bikes are like cars that get lower in horse power as it burns fuel. Running both batteries spreads the reduction in horsepower over a longer period of time making it much so terrible.

      If range and load capacity is not a huge deal, I would recommend the Aventon Abound as I always have. It caps off at level two meaning it does not go faster than 28 miles an hour which I feel is more than adequate for most people. That is also the legal limit. Most people like the torque sensor that it has, but I do prefer the cadence sensor of the XPedition.
      When doing research, you will always find people saying that torque sensor is superior to cadence sensor, but it is really a matter of preference. They operate very differently.

    I can see why Lectric doesn’t give instructions for how to install the chair that far back. That moves the passenger’s center of gravity behind the contact patch of the rear tire, and a larger person can fit that seat whereas only smaller passengers could fit into the Orbitor, which makes lifting the front tire more likely. I wouldn’t encourage people to do that either.

    • @Funcentric
      @Funcentric  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The plus one seat is designed for adults though. Lectric markets it like that. It would only make sense that a pad be put in front because it would otherwise just be the bare frame.

      @jamesclawson9243 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@Funcentric I think he's saying if you are using the plus one as opposed to the orbitor you are probably carrying an adult passenger, and if you have an adult you probably only have room/weight capacity for one person. And assuming it's an adult, you don't want that much (100+ lbs person) weight that far back on the rack as the adult passengers weight is behind the rear wheel possibly lifting the front of the bike up and causing instability. The seat being mounted more forward the center of gravity is more towards the center of the bike which increases stability.
      But I see your point, it looks odd without a continuous cushion and would probably be nice as opposed to just the railing on your legs.

    • @Funcentric
      @Funcentric  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@jamesclawson9243 yeah I get that. The physics of it makes sense. I have a child back there in my particular application. I feel like kids will outgrow the Orbiter quite quickly. There’s a huge gap in age between being too big for the orbiter and an adult.

    FWIW it looks like Lectric isn't building these in the US. AIPAS came out with a similar bike that moves one of the batteries into the frame (shortening it in the process), but also adds better lights (brake light and directionals) and front suspension. Similar price, too, it just leaves out the massive glut of holiday bonus stuff (the pads, running boards, mirrors, pannier bags, Orbitor basket).

    How does this bike fit into your state laws? If 750W is the maximum permissible electric assist, how does this 1350W motor meet requirements to be ridden on other than private land? If you’re riding it on the road then it isn’t a bicycle and it must be registered and be street legal with working brake lights, etc. (at least in my state). I am seeing more and more folks riding these type of throttle only on the multi-use pathway I walk on and while I think it’s a wonderful and inexpensive way to commute, it is pushing into a very gray area of where and how it may be ridden.

    • @Funcentric
      @Funcentric  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Motor is 750w, not 1350w.
      Bicycles are not regulated by the city. Most cities don’t regulate bicycles but they do mopeds. It’s mopeds that are generally defined as 30mph. Those do require registration, insurance, turn signals, and a license.

      @@Funcentric thank you for clarifying that. I thought I’d read/heard that this bike had a motor exceeding 1300W.
