For instance, I bought a Riese & Mueller Bike for my wife and the only reasonable source for good information was you. Thanks for another great video, Chris. I live in Devon in the UK and have just bought a Riese and Muller Multicharger with the Enviolo hub and Gates Carbon Drive. Where I live is really hilly - lots of short 300 to 600 ft climbs, many of them at a sustained 1 in 5 gradient (20%) and some as steep as 1 in 3 (33%). Having been unable to test the bike on such steep hills before purchase, I was a little nervous about how it deal with them. I'm pleased to say it does manage the 1 in 5 gradients without excess effort, although the really steep bits do require quite a strong rider and I suspect I might want to avoid those bits when I'm carrying a full load. I love the transmission on this bike. Very easy to use and intuitive. Great that you can adjust the ratio regardless of whether you are under load, freewheeling or stationary. It's really useful at the point when a hill just starts to ease off - the point where, with derailleur gears, you have to temporarily take the strain off to change up and then struggle to regain momentum. Just thought this comment might help anyone living in a hillier region who isn't sure whether the Enviolo would be suitable for them.

I'm curious, can you speak to the CVT transmissions, how are they on hills? One reason I'm considering an e-assist bike is I can't ride anywhere from my home without traveling up 6-9% grades. Will the CVT and electric power handle that adequately? In general, I'm probably riding less than 20 mile long trips usually, but it could be a longer ride easily. Thanks for your comment!

Hi Propel-team! I'm wondering what your opinion is about the brand new Ca Go FS200. Probably the most expensive long john, but is it as good as they say?
It’s a nice bike. I have little experience with it since it’s brand new. I did get to check it out at Eurobike last year and the concept seems great. It’s a new company though so it’s tough to say how the final execution will go. I’m betting the new Riese & Müller Packster 70 is going to be a strong competitor though. Being that R&M has been this thing a lot longer I would prefer to put my money there.
Nice video to have a look on cargo bile for 2020 and its very clear and info are complete. You have answer lots of question i was asking myself about choosing a cargo bike ! Thanks a lot for the video !!! 👍🌞
What r ur thoughts on Bogbi cargo bike designed in Norway and made in Columbia. It's not available in the US yet but they seem awesome, especially the aesthetics.
You should check out the Chike e-kids or e-cargo version (and in 2023, also e-dog version). It's the best trike on the European market (don't know, if it's sold in North America) : compact, light, dynamic and with a clever suspension/leaning system much more agile and safe than the Butcher.
Are there any ebikes that have a scooter type seat. I am a very big guy and have never found a comfortable sadle that could hold my close to 500lb weight. I will be lower soon it was 520 just 2 weeks ago. a bike will help me get it off faster, but most are not strong enough. I have a worksman trike, but it has just 3 gears and it is very hilly where i live and does not have electric.
Innovation(touring e-bikes for heavier riders): Similar to the Benno (but with 700c rims) A double rear bicycle cargo rack for e-bikes; to hold a battery in the rear AND alloted for cargo pannier bags. Load capacity? 60+lbs and for those long distance bike touring to also have a down tube battery in the bike frame for extra mileage and there would still be room for a water bottle cage on top of internalized/frame encased battery for e-bike and of course with at least a 750 watt e-bike MID DRIVE motor.
I'm gathering info in hopes of building a cargo bike. This video was great to see the variety of designs and inspire lots of good takeaways, so thank you once again, Chris. That slack seat tube allowing feet(or foot) down while in the seat seems like a kind of critical differentiator. Will it require out of seat stomping on the pedals of my homebuilt e-cargo to climb category 3 hills with a load, or at least an extreme granny gear??? I like the idea of a cargo bike that when unloaded could actually still be used on transit (bus rack, train), and there are weight, size, and design limits for transit use.
The belt system is a much better system last longer and more efficient and cheaper than changing a series of cassette, metal chains, and crank sets that are all very expensive and time consuming...
@@jedensamochodmniej Thanks, I know that Harley Davidson went to belt drive for their motorcycles but I haven't seen too many belt drive bicycles at my local local bike shops. Is that because it's harder to change gears with belt drive vs chain drive?
@@stuarthirsch Changing gears is very smooth, since belt drive requires planetary hub. That makes the drive more expensive. But there is no grease, no chain cleaning and no problem in winter (especilally with salt and mud on the streets). Belt stretches, but after a very long time. More investment at the begining, less during use.
I’m another Canadian wondering about shipping. I’m not sure if there is a difference in what is allowed or not between us and the US. I believe we can’t have throttle (at least where I live) though I am just starting to learn about this product category.
love your videos... what would recommend the 60 of 75 to drive an Adult around in.. and would you recommend a set? they look really small for an adult. all the best from Copenhagen Denmark
Hi. Im in the UK. Wife wants a bike for her and to carry out 4 y old daughter at the back ideally. Needs to be electrically assisted and not heavy. What options do I have ? I wanted something small and foldable ideally since we live in a 2nd floor flat. Thanks !
How would I upload pics here? Bought it for my GP practice to use it for patients visits at their homes. Works a treat and since I was able to get SQ Lab as my sponsor I upgraded saddle, handlebar and grab handles. Since January I pedaled ~1500 km or nearly 1000 miles with it.
I love the Urban Arrow shorty! I could easily see myself riding it in Chicago. I'm going with the Tern GSD but the Urban Arrow Shorty is lovely. Do you carry the Shorty?
The Shorty is definitely cool! The GSD is awesome as well. We do carry the Shorty and it’s quite an awesome bike! Great for those who want lots of capacity with less length.
@@Propelbikes hey, thank you for the response. And I get it now knowing that you do not carry that bike yet. The Bullitt is an amazing bike. well balanced, fast, lightweight, and really good carrying load capacity. I choose not to buy the E version, and instead installed a Bafang 750 watt mid drive motor. I have tried the E version and its awesome. I have the mid drive motor along with the Fallbrook continuously variable rear hub. That combination works really well, especially with the hills of Oakland and San Francisco. My kid love it also. holla back if you want some pics or if you have any other questions. Blue Heron Bikes here in Berkeley sells it, along with both R&M cargo bike, the Urban Arrow, and Yuba. The top front loading cargo bikes they sell are the R&M cargo bikes and the Bullitt.
Good overview, great to see cargo bikes gaining traction across the pond. Greetings from a 30k km Urban Arrow rider from the Netherlands, my only gripe with it is that this machine is not very comfortable for more then an hour driving trips imo.
Since many Riese & Muller bikes has the front rack as an option or it comes as standard, could you Chris do a video about how take advantage of it? For example what bags would be good for it? I have ordered a Multicharger which does have the front rack as standard but i'm strugling to find any good tips how to use it or what cargo bags would fit it.
Chris another wonderfully done video. I was wondering your opinion of Yuba cargo bikes? I saw a past review on EBR and you were in it. Any issues with them? Thanks and Ride Safe!
Hi, quick one from France. I ‘m riding a yuba spicy curry since a year and it’s just a great long tail. Surprised not seeing it in your video. Yuba is based in california. Cheers
excellent video ! very professional observation of the different morphology of cargo bikes ! Here in France, we are very late for this discipline... thermal engine cars are always the law, bikers always stigmatized as ecological persons...
Really good review and explanation of why these are your stocked cargo bikes. Interested to hear more which bikes you consider worth supporting long term and what your criteria is for this. Also be interested in learning more about different drive trains, use cases, etc.
I ride a Bike Friday Haul A Day and its my favorite cargo bike out of the three I have owned. I just put an e-assist system on it, but even before that its the best. I had an Xtracycle with Bionix kit (5,000 miles on it) and Surely Big Dummy with same (put 5,000 on that too). The Xtracycle was great for really loading it up, but the length and overall size were drawbacks. Really firm frame, but wouldn't fit in the elevator at work. The Big Dummy was a nice riding bike with no load, but once loaded, say with a 120 pound passenger, it was difficult to keep straight. The frame was too flexible. The BF is light and easy to maneuver. With a heavy load it is not wippy or flexible and feels very stable. Will fit on a standard bus bike rack too by turning the front wheel backwards.Without a load it rides very nice too and doesn't feel bulky at all.
If you could list/show the price for each bike please? Some of us (most really) consider price to be a major factor in purchasing. If I want to figure out what I want/need I have to look up everything in the video and tab back and forth... Just tell us how much they cost PLEASE! In the links in the description of the video, just add an MSRP after each bike.
What do you think about the new Yuba mundo electric with the steps motor. Did you had the chance to test it already? I'm from Germany and we only have a Yuba dealer here. But I really like the Xtracycle Stoker and Swoop. Which bike would you choose for carry up 3 kids (6yrs, 3yrs, 3yrs)? Looking forward for your reccomend. By the way, very nice channel. Best regards Patrick
I’m a bit partial to Bosch over Shimano. Do you have any Benno dealers? Maybe you can consider that? The Yuba isn’t a bad bike by any means, I’m just a bit more partial to the other bikes because the fit and finish is a bit better.
@@Propelbikes - True , 'if it aint broke dont fix it". This tech may never reach into the road bike design any time soon. But I think / hope the Ebike tech world will embrace this CVT belt drive.
I rode one two years ago so perhaps the recent model is better. At the time, I felt the motor engaged a half second after I started pedaling and disengaged a half second after I stopped pedaling. So if I try to stop, I have to anticipate the delay and ease off earlier or apply brake. It didn’t’ take feel natural. I think the new models now poll the torque and cadence sensors more often to result in better response to your pedal input. Overall, my impression is that it is not a refined product, but it will make 90% of the people quite happy.
TC 13:47 -- Several thoughts came to mind - Amsterdam being arguably the promised land of biking and E-biking tech. Down with you. The 2nd thought that came to mind that is that your are geographically blessed for product sales. 3rd- Where you are geographically, it used to be called New Amsterdam way way back in the day. Karma ? Keep up the good work.
Thanks Michael! I recently visited Amsterdam and I hope our New Amsterdam can get better at adopting many of those principles. I’m living in California at the moment but I try to get back to NY often when we aren’t in the middle of a pandemic. Stay safe and enjoy!
Yes, but I have to take care of my team and my customers still. I’m just grateful I still have a business and customers to take care of. Many are not so fortunate.
My friends has one of these he takes his fishing rods and tackle and his two daughter's it looks awesome i had a ride on it and I like it, I want one with the electric motor, thanks for sharing the video
Michelle, most of the bikes on this list will actually accommodate both rider heights. I think some of them with fixed stem/handlebar combos won’t fit as well, but usually the seatpost will adjust for both heights. If you want to shoot us an email on our site propelbikes.com with your inseam measurements I can get you more precise details.
I don’t have too much experience with that bike unfortunately. I’ve seen other Blix bikes though and they seem to be pretty good options. Lots of proprietary parts with a small network of support though so be careful about that.
@@Propelbikes Dare I ask why? It is the only front loader that I've ever seen to features a structurally integrated rear platform. Why does a cargo bike have to be exclusively a front OR rear loader? Why can't it be both to balance the load capacity along its wheel base. Why don't cargo bikes of either configuration feature a structurally integrated front rack that extends to or a little past the front wheel. When a cyclist is riding at night through a blind intersection and a car is approaching, perpendicularly, having the bike light with amber side-lighting this far forward could alert the driver in the car, a split second sooner, to hit the brakes, before the entire bike comes into view and by then, possibly, too late. A fixed front platform would allow easy forward placement for such a light, defensively speaking.
This is good feedback and insights. I have often though similar things. I do think that both setups have their advantages. It would be nice to see more variation in this space. I’d love to see more full suspension as well.
Sure would be sweet seeing how well cargo bikes handle getting on the Blue Line. Sure they say no, but it can still be handled at times. Pal of mine used to take a bike and trailer on it at times.
Love the overview. Do you know if it's possible to easily upgrade the kickstand and the lighting system of the Tern HSD S8i? Because I really like the kickstand of the GSD S00 and the boosted lighting system with the brake light functionality, but the GSD is just a bit too heavy and long for what I'm looking for
Put a Supernova or Lupine light on your bike and you’ll have floodlights. Both german engineering. A brake light needs special break grips. Upgradable, but expensive. Or get a Riese Müller, where it’s included.
@@Propelbikes -- I would agree with your expert opinion and add that with an Ebike, that loss of power vs input is a non issue given the maintenance relief.
What really makes them so useful is that you can shift gear under power AND while standing still, with a heavy cargo bike this becomes even more important as you really don't want to be stuck in a heavy gear at a traffic light and it makes pulling up with a more or less constant cadence a breeze.
Douze makes a great bike, but they aren’t readily available here. I’m not familiar with Anywhere, but the CD1 is definitely cool. I hope we can get more options going on the US soon. We’re working on that.

Hi Chris, it'd be awesome if you could feature some exotic bikes like foldable tandem e-bikes, and electric tandem bikes for families. I'd love to see these bikes, including cargo bikes, with longer range, faster charging, love the ones that still offer regen braking. Or it'd be awesome if you could hook up something like a powerfilm Lightsaver Max (solar panel) strapped to a backpack what would that extend the range like.
Great feedback! Let me see what I can come up with. We don’t have many of these here in the states, but I’ll keep my eye out. I’d love to see a practical solar solution for ebikes, most of them aren’t efficient enough to charge your battery though.
Dear Chris, I’m from Germany and I really enjoy all of your videos and it‘s fun to watch them. The next bike will be a Load 60 or 75 an a question occured, when I saw a scene where Tara enters a Load 75 with 3 child seats in it. In Germany there is no possibility to order the high sidewalls with 3 kids seats. Is that different in the US or did you order the high side walls separately an changed the low ones for them? Thanks for your answer. Go on with your fabulous work! With best wishes, Ben
Ben, thanks for reaching out. The Load 75 with Tara in the front actually didn’t have any seats inside. I think you can include the rear seats with the high sidewalls but I don’t believe the 3rd seat is compatible with the high sidewalls.
Thanks for your answer Chris! At Minute 5:55 it seems that there is a front seat and the box with the high side walls. What configuration is that? Thanks in advance and stay safe!
You have a great point. That was a bike we borrowed from Juizz while in Amsterdam. Maybe they customized it. I guess it all works together. Maybe not the rain cover though.
Hi Chris, today I talked to Riese & Müller and they told me the high sidewalls will fit with the three seats configuration, but cant be ordered in this combination. The high sidewalls must be ordered separately and changed with the low ones. Best Ben
Issues that I have: 1. Some are too wide. They are nearly as wide as a small car. Somewhat defeats the purpose of bike. 2. Practically all are too expensive. I could get a decent used care for less than $5000. 3. I am not sure a two wheeler would be stable enough on icy roads. 4. Bikes tend to be easy to steal. Two guys could pick one up and put it in the back of a pickup truck. See # 2 above. 5. If the battery on one of the ebikes ran down, it would difficult to peddle.
I watch your videos , I bought an lectric XP fat tire !! Cant afford most of your reviews But I can watch !@ I thank LECTRIC (Arizona mom n pop) for breaking the 1k price barrier. !! Love the pizza /cargo Reminds me of the paper boy bikes from childhood in queens Sunday papers had the bike overloaded, man if that was electric in the 70s !! Many cold sundays delivering those huge NYTIMES , An EBIKE would make it easier!!
Thank you for watching and your comments! Enjoy the Lectric! They seem to be popular. I hope we will have more affordable options available in the future, but we have standards we have very high standards for quality, safety and support; most of the cheaper guys can’t meet them unfortunately.

It’s not a bad low cost option, but it seems they cut many corners which many inexperienced people don’t notice. We end up seeing a lot of people upgrading from Rad to one of our bikes. But if you don’t have the budget I think Rad isn’t a bad way to go to get started. I think you’ll just end up with more repair and maintenance costs, so you need to be aware of that.

Fantastic overview! Thanks for making these great videos 🙏🙏
Thanks Jeff!!! I really appreciate you comment and support
The belt system is a much better system last longer and more efficient and cheaper than changing a series of cassette, metal chains, and crank sets that are all very expensive and time consuming...
If you use the bike a lot this is certainly the case although there is a slight bit of efficiency lost in the belt compared to the chain.
What is your take on the Yuba Spicy Curry?
After watching....im sold on the Reece and muller load. I have 2 kids that could use that setup.
This is my favorite bike! It’s so awesome!
What is the advantage of belt vs chain drive?
No drive maintenance.
I couldn’t have said it better myself! Thanks for the assist. Belts are awesome!
I have a TERN GSD and recently also bought a R & M Charger. I would recommend both.
Great bikes for sure!
Hi Propel team, do you guys deliver to Ontario, Canada? Thanks for the great video
I'd say get the 75 and 3 seats, which gives you the backwards facing seat that's way bigger
Hi. Im in the UK. Wife wants a bike for her and to carry out 4 y old daughter at the back ideally. Needs to be electrically assisted and not heavy. What options do I have ? I wanted something small and foldable ideally since we live in a 2nd floor flat. Thanks !
R+M Packster 40 it will be. I'm already excited about it! Only days from getting it.
Super cool! Enjoy it!

@@Propelbikes I do :)
Is the compartment the kids are in tested for crash worthiness Are they in any kind of child seat?
great vid. But why did you not include the Bullitt Cargo bike from Larry vs Harry?
Great question! I’m a big fan of that bike. I haven’t ridden the electric one yet, but I do plan to add it to our lineup. Do you have one?
I want to convert one of my old mountain bikes into an extra cycle cargo bike by simply adding an extension attachment?
Check out the Xtracycle Leap. It’s pretty awesome!
Good overview, great to see cargo bikes gaining traction across the pond. Greetings from a 30k km Urban Arrow rider from the Netherlands, my only gripe with it is that this machine is not very comfortable for more then an hour driving trips imo.
30k is a lot, how much do you have to spend in maintenance?
Since many Riese & Muller bikes has the front rack as an option or it comes as standard, could you Chris do a video about how take advantage of it? For example what bags would be good for it? I have ordered a Multicharger which does have the front rack as standard but i'm strugling to find any good tips how to use it or what cargo bags would fit it.
Chris another wonderfully done video. I was wondering your opinion of Yuba cargo bikes? I saw a past review on EBR and you were in it. Any issues with them? Thanks and Ride Safe!
Enjoyed your presentation, thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi, quick one from France. I ‘m riding a yuba spicy curry since a year and it’s just a great long tail. Surprised not seeing it in your video. Yuba is based in california. Cheers
Between the Benno boost e and the riese muller multicharger what model would you recommand ?
excellent video ! very professional observation of the different morphology of cargo bikes !
Great feedback Robin! I appreciate it. I’ll definitely add these ideas to our future video list.
This is a great video..(compliments to the editor too). We sent you a lead from the Hamptons. Have a super wonderful Autumn
What about the tags 2.0 family-cargo bike duo seater with electric kit are you familiar with them
If you could list/show the price for each bike please? Some of us (most really) consider price to be a major factor in purchasing. If I want to figure out what I want/need I have to look up everything in the video and tab back and forth... Just tell us how much they cost PLEASE! In the links in the description of the video, just add an MSRP after each bike.
Do you carry the folding tern cargo node? What is your thoughts on the bike, thanks
It’s a great bike, but we only do electric cargo bikes. I think there are plenty of applications for non-electric, but I want to remain focused.
Hi, what do you think of the Sortimo Pro Cargo CT1? I am interested in transporting Tools and Materials not children.
Looks pretty cool! I hope we see more similar options here in the US.
thanks for this video! this is awesome!
Thank you very much!
Best regards
Patrick
I’m a bit partial to Bosch over Shimano. Do you have any Benno dealers? Maybe you can consider that? The Yuba isn’t a bad bike by any means, I’m just a bit more partial to the other bikes because the fit and finish is a bit better.
-- How long until belt drive is standard ?
Good question. I guess only time will tell. I don’t think you can ever fully replace a chain in all applications though.
@@Propelbikes - True , 'if it aint broke dont fix it".
This tech may never reach into the road bike design any time soon. But I think / hope the Ebike tech world will embrace this CVT belt drive.
Thanks! I totally agree!

Trollz don't ride 🚲 bikes 👀😎
How about the RadWagon?
Also wondering about that
I am curious as well.
Ditto

It be nice if u can combine a fat bike style for off road cargo for hunting, camping and survival with a fast and long range motor with solar charger
Sounds cool! We seem to have a way to go with the solar charging at the moment though. Maybe we will get there soon though.
Do any of the cargo ebikes that you carry have a torque sensor? (Instead of a cadence sensor)
All of the bikes on this list do actually :)
My friends has one of these he takes his fishing rods and tackle and his two daughter's it looks awesome i had a ride on it and I like it, I want one with the electric motor, thanks for sharing the video
Do you think that any of these bikes could work for a couple that would like to share a cargo bike where one rider is 5’0” and the other 6’0”?
Michelle, most of the bikes on this list will actually accommodate both rider heights. I think some of them with fixed stem/handlebar combos won’t fit as well, but usually the seatpost will adjust for both heights. If you want to shoot us an email on our site propelbikes.com with your inseam measurements I can get you more precise details.
Can you send the link to the shop
Sure! propelbikes.com
I'd like to mention the Chike e-Kids. Like the B&B Mk1-e, but more compact, yet more space for kids, and with super useful lockable frame boxes!
Definitely a cool bike as well!
@@Propelbikes any chance you would carry the chike
Pino from hasebikes available in the US?
That's an expensive list. What do you think about the Blix Packa?
I don’t have too much experience with that bike unfortunately. I’ve seen other Blix bikes though and they seem to be pretty good options. Lots of proprietary parts with a small network of support though so be careful about that.
Can you guys come up with a gadget that you can safely attach a wheelchair to an existing elects bike. Just like the doggie stroller attachments
No Yuba Supermarche?
Cool bike for sure, but not on my list.
Maybe we will do this eventually. I don't think you would be bothered, especially if the bike is cool 😎
And how exactly do we get these pricey things to where we are going. Do I rent a tow truck or does it come with one?
Strange question. Why don't you just bike?
--- Is CVT gearing worth it performance-wise ?
Many people including myself feel the ease of use and low maintenance make it worth it over the small hit on performance.
@@Propelbikes -- I would agree with your expert opinion and add that with an Ebike, that loss of power vs input is a non issue given the maintenance relief.
My sentiments exactly
What really makes them so useful is that you can shift gear under power AND while standing still, with a heavy cargo bike this becomes even more important as you really don't want to be stuck in a heavy gear at a traffic light and it makes pulling up with a more or less constant cadence a breeze.
@@malloott -- The lack of this is one of the main reasons I went rear drive. This gear tech is totally a thing coming.
Douze. Anywhere. CT1 or CD1. Those are three other very good 'Long John' bikes / 'trikes.' Can you sell them?

I really want the Urban Arrow Family, but the cost is hard to swing.
Best Ben
Issues that I have:

Hi, great video! What do you thing of the Omnium Cargo for messanger services?
What do you think about the Rad Cargo bike?
It’s not a bad low cost option, but it seems they cut many corners which many inexperienced people don’t notice. We end up seeing a lot of people upgrading from Rad to one of our bikes. But if you don’t have the budget I think Rad isn’t a bad way to go to get started. I think you’ll just end up with more repair and maintenance costs, so you need to be aware of that.
