The fact that the suit was a sponsorship deal make peter's half hearted "it's good" funnier.
I pray that Yuri Lowenthal tried to sneak diss without them noticing it'd be the funniest shit
I love how the second Pat says "I'm not black" it cuts to a commercial. Those five seconds of suspense, waiting on Woolie's comment, felt like forever lol.
There's a could of these that are really good I feel like woolie sets it up ya know but idk about uploading vids so maybe he does.
Edit : Minh rather
I guess black people can't happen to wear Adidas.
This happened to you, too?!! I almost died laughing. I didn't know these commercials were timed the same for everyone.
Bruh it cut from pat going I’m not black to the airheads commercial with the white lady screaming then skipping with a chainsaw killer for me I literaly just heard a woman scream after pat said he’s not black. Ima be real when TH-cam memes advertisements it works I want airheads now because they made me laugh lmao
Same happened to me, and as well the exact ad I got was for: "The American Society for Magical Negros" which made me have to chomp down on my lips to avoid absolutely bursting out laughing at work.
Pat: “I’m not black.”
[ad starts playing]
Fucking timing lmao
Same, that was perfect lmao
If you recall Blizzard's race tier list, Pat is not Black but gets more diversity points then Woolie anyways.
i wish, i would have laughed my ass off
Peter: “Eeyikes I have to get these photos to ol’ Triple J! But it looks like Scorpions up to no good again, looks like I’ll have pay a call to my old pal Spidey!”
Harry: “Why doesn’t my father love me Peter?”
Making the temporarily un-removable endgame suit an Adidas sponsorship deal definitely feels incredibly gross. Does Peter's endgame suit have the Kitkat logo instead of a spider?
I guess Across The Spiderverse is just a Jordan Brand advertisement then too huh, gross.
@@YetiCoolBrother those are, at least, part of his casual attire. He changes out of them and into the superhero onesie when he wants to go superheroing. So it makes narrative sense within the context of the setting. Still a little grating but it's the kind of advert that makes enough sense that it kind of serves the make the setting more grounded.
Changing out of the superhero suit and INTO the brand deal suit for the most important scenes of the game and then taking away the customization functionality that the player has previously enjoyed is a different level of slime. Are we expected to believe that Miles obtained a sponsorship and his own custom kicks from Adidas in-universe? Despite being an anonymous vigilante?
@@Highstar25 Except they didn't make you wear the suit for a brand deal. They did the exact same shit for Peter, at 2 different points in the story you're forced back into the new Advanced suit because that's the look they wanted for those scenes. In fact it only happens the 1 time for Miles whereas they do it with Peter twice.
But I mean if you're determined to stick with the narrative that it was all just a brand deal mandated by Adidas do you I guess lol
@@YetiCoolBrother I see, so you're saying that Adidas is an insidious gooey entity that infects Miles' body and integrates with his skin not unlike the venom symbiote, preventing him from removing the corporate clownsuit. What an unexpected plot point.
Also Adidas are selling the whole outfit. This isn't some wacky fan theory, they are quite literally boasting about this to anyone who will listen.
@YetiCoolBrother this is a poor point. For one Mile's Jordans are pretty naturalistically worked into the plot. They're just his normal shoes. So when he's putting together his shitty homemade spiderman costume he just uses the shoes he has.
They are not a part of the final costume and the final costume is not designed to look like a pair of Jordan's.
That's clearly very different from practically shouting "this is Miles iconic look! He made it himself because he loves Adidas so much!"
It's crazy to imagine Spiderman on PS1 portrayed Peter and MJs relationship like a normal couple, no drama, no awkwardness, no problems.
That game wasn't going for semi-realism though. Most relationships have ups and downs. Doesn't need to be romantic either, anyone who's ever had a friend could tell you this.
MJ was in the PS1 game? I didn't know. Neat.
MJ who was in that game for like 5 minutes?
@@HellfireCommsIf this is your understanding of "realistic" relationships do you think the issue might be you? This is a more generalized "you" it isn't a specific attack against you.
It's like people thinking it is "realistic" for old man Luke Skywalker to be a failure who abandoned his youthful ideals. Like, no, some people don't grow into old miserable failures. Especially not people's childhood heroes.
MJ was pissed at Peter at the end of the Venom fight. I think the PS1 games ended with Spidey not speaking to her as well as losing credit for stopping Electro to Thor. Granted, Thor is strong but PS1 Spider-Man is man that suffers Parker Luck to a T@@leithaziz2716
Feels like the most 'Miles' thing insomniac Miles could do would be to make a youtuber apology for signinging a deal with Adidas
He made a mistake
Adidas did design the whole suit, you can legit buy the hoodie n' stuff. Miles is just a walking advertisement at the end of that game, that's his big story moment.
No they didn't, you and everyone on the subreddit pulled that entirely out of your ass lol.
Just because they did a deal with Adidas to have Miles wearing actual Adidas in the game doesn't mean they literally designed the suit smh. Also, I bet you didn't have this energy for Across The Spiderverse Miles wearing Jordan 1's. What's the difference???
Oddly fitting for such an empty character.
A bright, young man having a moment of disillusionment and then promptly selling out is so on brand that it's hilarious.
Please help did they use the Puertorriqueña flag!?!? As a basis for the suit is that why it has light blue on it? I am panicking cause if that’s true then that’s horrible and great at the same time and my brain is panicking I don’t know if I should be proud or angry
@@DanteEyeoftheTower The new suit has blue in it because Miles new ability is blue electricity instead of orange. Also because Spider-Man
The Spider-Verse easter egg should've concluded by somehow running in to PS1 or PS2 Spidey, which unlocked a costume afterward.
I love how this podcast really does record right before certain things get confirmed now that we know Adidas basically did design the suit so everyone hating it is 100% appropriate because Miles wearing Jordan 1s in Spiderverse is so much more Iconic.
No we don't know that, the subreddit made that shit up. Adidas is selling the pieces, yes, but they didn't literally design it. Jordan Brand also sold the ATS Jordan 1's and no one said shit.
@@YetiCoolBrother Yes, they didn't mind because the outfit looked good. I don't get it.
@@YetiCoolBrother the Jordans miles wore were just standard red Jordans they did release a special edition spider verse Jordan but they weren't the ones miles wore at all that's a key difference.
And the design being the exact same as the suit while also having the adidas logo they absolutely had to get it okayed with Adidas themselves so they had a hand in the idea of the suit no matter how you look at it
@@leithaziz2716 I don't care if people like the fit or not, that's subjective, but to try and paint it as if Adidas designed a suit and gave it to Insomniac purely to be an advertisement as if Insomniac doesn't actually give a fuck about Spider-Man is just straight up headcanon. If you don't like the suit just say that.
hood shoes, a cut out up top for nappy hair to stick up, and his Suit looks like watermelon....we were here before in the seventies, I don't how no one else has noticed it yet
After the shitflinging people gave insomniac for not including the Raimi suit, I 100% understand why they chose to go with all of the movie suits over comic suits.
the weird part is that many of the suits that were in the first game do not return.
@Highstar25 It's not really that weird. Content gets cut between sequels. Not gonna have every single bit of stuff from the first game, thing that matters most is movie suits in terms of what people expect from playing as Peter.
huh??? it WAS in the first one though
@@simmsyboyminecraft It was added in retrospect after people kept harassing and sending threats to Insomniac to include the Raimi suit. They originally had no intent of having it in the game.
@@NeutralGuyDoubleZerothey practically gave miles all of his, they should have just done the same for peter
The hate for Mary Jane really makes me think of her position in the 90s comics: once she and Peter get married, no one on the writing team has a gatdam clue about what to do with her besides have her worry about Peter. To the point where the vibe that 90s Peter was a miserable sadsack was blamed on the marriage instead of the constant stream of B-S that was the Clone Saga.
It really feels like no one understands how to write MJ and the ones who write her are Gwen Stacy fans who can't fathom seeing Peter being happy with someone who isn't dead and is a more complex character.
Then the clown editor who also made Miles simply as fanservice for his own son had Peter reveal his secret identity, regret it, so he then makes a deal with Satan (as all heroes do), trading his marriage for his secret identity back. Joe Quesada was a weird guy.
@lexofexcel886 people think she looks ugly (that does apply to all the other characters) in this game and I’ve seen comments saying this whole ugly female character stuff is only common in games made in the west, which I think is just crazy talk.
@@HumanoidCableDreads Joe Quesada is NOT Brian Michael Bendis
@@HumanoidCableDreads Quesada didn't create Miles, Brian Michael Bendis is the guy you're thinking about
As someone who's been a Spider-Man fan for 40 years let me sum up my relationship with the writers:
Me: "Can Pete just be happy?"
Writers: "Fucking *NO!!!* "
I think having a less than optimal personal life is a key component of the character. Peter shouldn’t be perfectly balancing superhero life with everything else. But the Insomniac games are desensitizing me to how much deep personal tragedy he needs to endure, making me increasingly value Aunt May’s death in No Way Home being the only character to get a scene like that in the entire trilogy. I wasn’t used to that version of Peter Parker going through something that emotional so it was a proper escalation
@@TheJadedJamesProblem is that too many adaptations and the comics themselves think literally every possible tragedy that could ever happen to a person should happen to Peter.
Not compelling things happen to him, just loved ones dying and getting cucked over and over.
Pat completely ignoring the Superiors Spider-Man skin which is the best suit in all of spider imo
As someone who loves Superior, it’s not going to grab the hype of casuals
"I'm not black"
*Straight into an ad
Beautiful
One takeaway I get looking Mile's **big new suit** feels like he got dragged across the street scalp first then never bothered to repair the torn hole
19:17 I kind of figured that the whole point of having two Spider-Men was that they don’t have to be in the same place. Like say if Scorpion is going crazy in the Financial District but Rhino is doing the same in Astoria they can split up. The entire point was that Peter is one person and can’t cover the entire city. Which of course makes the ending stupid as it just puts Miles in the same position that Peter was originally in while also making Peter look like a massive POS for pawning this job onto a seventeen year old.
Isn't that a major theme of many Batman stories? I think back to this line Alfred gives Bruce in Arkham Origins: "but it's high time you realise that you're a man, not an island."
He literally says he can call him for anything though?
Peter isn't retiring, he's just focusing on being Peter for a while, Miles even says so.
@@typhontwister
Yeah i took it as taking a vacation essentially to get his shit together. Kinda deserved after all the shit hes put up with over the last like 9 years. Idk why so many people see it as a permanent retirement.
I thought that, but then remember most of the rogue gallery is fucking dead, retired, or rehabilitated so to be fair he is dealing with less
how old was Peter when he started?
The funniest part is that Adidas is like, actually just selling a whole set of clothes that look just like Miles own shitty evolved suit, including the shoes. Really makes you wonder.
The suit in the game looks really bad, but it's not unsalvageable, it's got good ideas.... The IRL pants and shirt they're selling I wouldn't be caught dead wearing
I’m surprised people are seeing the Venom and Spidey interactions being a bit flamboyant I guess. It’s been that way for decades if you decide to view it that way lol
No just people who live in echo chambers who haven't had real male friendship think this way.
@@Envy_Antonio there's no reason to be that keyed up. relax friend, we need you at maybe 20% less intensity.
@miguelnewmexico8641 I didn't say anything extreme? Just seems like anytime two people of the same gender have a close relationship it has to be romantical instead of just friends id even say the same with characters being opposite gender can't be too friendly without people shipping. Just saying sucks people can't be close anymore in any fiction and just be really close friends.
@@miguelnewmexico8641Whoa buddy calm down no need to froth at the mouth, the guy was just giving his opinion.
I’ve been raised by Spectacular into viewing the symbiote as being nearly infatuated with Peter
I haven’t played Spider-Man 2 yet, but the original PS1 game really demonstrates a key issue with MJ across all of Spider-Man media. MJ is a completely normal person with no function other than to be a component of Peter’s non-superhero life. Peter wants to have a normal life with a girlfriend and stuff but that comes into conflict with his superhero life. That is the purpose of Mary-Jane Watson. When Spider-Man stories try to make her relevant to the actual superhero stuff they becoming fucking contrived because MJ is supposed to be a normal person. All you can do is have her get kidnapped for fundamentally change her into something she’s not, which is how you get the ridiculous Insomniac interpretation of MJ where they attempt to make her Lois Lane/Sam Fisher. I think the Amazing Spider-Man movies got closer to the right idea when they made Gwen Stacy a scientist. That profession made her relevant to the plot & gave her agency to take part in superhero stuff in ways that didn’t require her to get kidnapped without getting too crazy (even though they still kill her, which in 2014 was not groundbreaking storytelling for female romantic leads.)
I think she could have some involvement without it getting contrived- but the level of involvement I'm thinking of would still not warrant her being playable. Like Ganke is around and helpful but you dont need to play as the dude...
@@punishedfist That again brushes up my main point, once you write MJ in such a way that she’s relevant to the superhero stuff, you are no longer writing MJ. She’s supposed to be as relevant to the superhero plots as Aunt May. Actually, MCU MJ oddly strikes the least contrived balance here. She has a normal non-melodramatic romance with Peter the story realizes she is a normal person but also doesn’t fall back on making her a damsel to keep her in the action either.
@@TheJadedJames I'm thinking along the lines of her being a reporter and just having information of some kind as the upper limit. But I agree fundamentally that it's really not necessary for her role to be present in the crime fighting at all and she could just have her role be alongside peter rather than spiderman
@@punishedfist A model for what the game was trying to exists, the problem is that’s an entirely different character called Lois Lane. And nobody would want to play Lois Lane stealth sections in a Superman game. But I will say in a tangent that I think exactly one of the Miles sections in the original game was dramatic effective (but not fun to play) because it put into perspective how terrifying it would be for a normal person to go up against any of Spider-Man’s villains. You spend the whole game going toe-to-toe with these guys as Peter, but as Miles, you’re screwed. Exactly one level made use of not being Spider-Man.
I like what they did with her here, but I agree with you somewhat. She isn’t “Mary Jane” to me. She’s another love interest for Spider-man that wants to be a Lois Lane.
Is this the new "Kanji from Persona 4 is gay" talk section?
Is this the new "Bayonetta from Bayonetta is gay" talk section?
The kanji one will never not be wild, considering Pat and Woolie saying Kanji must be gay is the antithesis of his whole inner strife, since he felt judged by girls saying his hobbies MUST mean he’s gay.
Man, i always feel bad for woolie having to have the games kinda spoiled because of the order or time the games come out. I hope you can talk about it again once both of you have played it.
He’ll play it like in a year or 2 as usual then blame the algorithm for less views or something.
@ghostspartan81 Tbf I don't think Woolie has ever complained about low views, he knows what he's signed up for
@Diinify yeah I've only ever really seen pat drop a game because low views, which I don't fault him for if you're not getting enough viewers you're screwed
This plus imo Pat is hyper exaggerating. He talks like MJ is out here “Nathan Draking”. She has a stun gun, not a literal handgun. It’s more active stealth, and later turns into survival horror. Like, anything but a “mediocre third person shooter”, as if it’s Spec Ops.
Honestly Pat does a great job of avoiding any real spoilers and Woolie would love to be a hermit in the woods who knows nothing about media but is very aware that he consumes and discusses media for a living.
Miles' new costume is Bold and Brash, and Belongs in the Trash.
What suckd about miles suit is that the other variants look way better like the all white suit is the best one imo
I honestly thing the 3rd color fits way better as a default than the actual default, it retains the black and red way better
@Limit02 I agree that's why I hate the first one
The white Mysterio suit is far and away Miles' best suit
Do not ask me who my favorite power ranger is
One More Day will set off any old-school Spider-Man fan who grew up with Parker.
Ever since .... what 1996? the quality of Parker's solo stories have fundamentally misunderstood and assassinated his character and story.
They create a legacy inheritor (even if they botched the intro) in Miles Morales, who eventually takes off and is accepted by the fans as a worthy successor, and they keep dragging Parker through the dumbest shit because Marvel's Execs hate the idea that he could have a character arc where he could be happy and content and do his thing on a smaller scale. Maybe even mentor new Spider-Man and retire... and yet.... he seems like he's practically a parody of his main run until the mid-90s, maybe early 00s.
I don't know why Woolie says that Miles wearing Adidas is "wrong.' Like, does he think there's a race or city wide ban on the Three Stripes like this shit is Cristal? I get that he likes the Jordans and can recognize Timbs, but Afro/Latino people in New York DO in fact wear Adidas. It's not like he was wea Skechers or anything.
I unironically love Miles' 1920's jazz musician suit.
That quest line is fun tbh
I really like it. Very dapper.
He looks like he puts forgis on the Jeep.
He needs to shoot webs out of a trumpet
re: does Miles have a contract with Adidas
There is a fully modelled Adidas store you can find the game.
I feel like I have many nitpicks with the game that bug me about it, but I think the major one is pacing. Things escalate quickly by the 3rd act and don't get much time to flesh things out. It feels like a race to the finish line.
Beyond that, I feel we could have spent more time with Peter in the black suit, seeing him do things that would have lasting consequences even after he takes off the suit and defeats Venom.
That would take valuable time away from the female side character that needs to be pushed as a protagonist, because the female writers are apparently incapable of not self-inserting into a story about magic spider boys.
I agree with the pacing issue, but at the same time I also didn't mind? I was too busy having fun fighting symbiotes. Plus, SM1's pacing was better but the actual story wasn't as interesting beyond Peter and Otto's relationship IMO.
In the end it's a trade-off that hopefully the next game can balance better.
@@NDenizen Get out dude. Not that kinda talk here.
@@HellfireComms Pete and Otto's thing was my favorite thing in that game, but that alone was also really intriguing to me that I still prefer it personally. Miles' development, finding out about Li, Aunt May's scenes. I liked all of that, and I kinda wanted more stuff like that here.
@@HellfireComms Yeah I do think they could have added some extra missions near the end to let things breathe more but honestly what's there is still pretty good. I even think this game makes the first one retroactively more interesting because of what they do with Martin Li. I thought he was sorta lacking in the first game but they flesh him out some more here and its nice to see.
One of my favorite ways Peter defeats Venom is him being like:
"Hey symbi, you want some again?"
"For real?"
"Fr fr"
I don't like that you're absolutely correct.
I like how that victory was so well done in the comics, they keep repeating it in other mediums.
And it was just as subtext filled both times they did it in the comics. It almost became straight text the second time. AKA the time Eddie was yelling about pounding Peter and a fisherman called them out on it.
@jinxfire That's comics for you. Ideas get thrown around, recycled, remixed, rejumbled into something kinda new. For better or for worse

Whitelight has an excellent video on Spider-Man 2, he nailed it when he said everyone in this game talks like their employer is watching.
Really sucks to see two men be vulnerable and care about each other and go "they gotta be gay.' Not saying im against it but it sucks to default to that.

current-year-media pattern recognition
The final miles costume was an absolute tragedy :(
Pat some friendships are just literally that close between heterosexual men. Labeling it as gay is probably part of why some men are afraid of opening up and being that close of friends with another man.
He's never had a close platonic male friendship and it shows. If anything the push for male friends being close as some kind of ship kind of prevents males from getting close because of the "gay", which is not the case.
Yeah honestly it's pretty bad. Have more gay characters, have more close male friendships.
People have had their brains ruined by crappy media and porn or something I swear. I get the gay community is gagging for representation but screaming GAY when two guys have genuinely platonic love for one another leads to toxicly masculine behaviours, emotional isolation and suicide. Yes, its that serious.
@@Canadish Considering the fanfiction redditors will chomp a the bit of anything in media that isn't overtly stated as "just friends" - it doesn't even have to have any subtext for the community to force their own theories into it. Pat's views on male friendships seem to be as mature as a 13 year old circa 2005. I swear.
Pat needs Harry and Peter to sit five feet apart in the hot tub before he gets the message.

@@RedStar_N7 Exactly. The Electra stuff wasn’t bad but the Punisher plotline was just so much more interesting that I found myself impatiently waiting to cut back to punisher stuff during Daredevil scenes.

Don't forget that stealth is like streamlined to just standard take downs. You just need to put up a web line to clear a room, you have no gadgets to help you.

imagine if miles wore New Balance
One of my issues with the world in that game is that everything feels like it's going so hard at being "inclusive and wholesome" that it feels completely artificial. Them putting the wrong flag in Miles' apartment was just the icing on the cake.
I felt the same thing. This is like a utopia New York where everything is so wholesome and inclusive, that it feels like it takes away some of the Thunder of other wholesome moments. It’s too positive, something I was surprised by, as someone who hates when superhero media tries to hard to be dark. It feels sterile and disingenuous
The "writing consultation" firm that worked on this game has an *interesting* track record.
Just play the Middle East version, where Insomniac cut all of that stuff out to appeal to that part of the world.
I like the fact that Insomniac's New York is "diverse" in the sense that it represents a Californian ideal of diversity, but there's no part of the game where a stereotypical Italian man is blaming Spiderman for the increased price of glizzies, or you have to help an ultra traditional Hasidic Jew get to the Bat Mitzvah.
Lots of Pride and BLM flags, though! Definitely the defining staple of New York culture.
Lol and for some reason everyone is missing the fact that they ripped all the gendered language out of the spanish VO so every spanish speaker who plays it feels like they're having a stroke.
Gun is one of my most favorite super powers
Spider-Man: Makes quippy lil' anti-gun points while taking down thugs stealing weapons.

I takes a lot for something offensive to actually bother me or make me upset, but the Mary Jane stuff conclusion pat is talking about made me actually say wtf loud enough and with enough vitriol in my voice that my roommate came out of their room concerned. That has not happened before nor since.
Possible Controversial opinion: I like the new miles suit, just needs different colors and an option to wear the hood
The funny thing about that suit is the alt colors you can unlock for it aren't that bad they just picked the worst color scheme for the default canon version.
I think the third choice should’ve been the default, it retains Miles’ black and red color pallete better I think

Miles' final costume looks alright (although I have trouble imagining it being the canon suit in the sequel. It just needs to get rid of the sneakers. It looks like the designers slapped bulky white sneakers on a suit that was supposed to be mostly black and form-fitting. The suit's white alternate color looks a little better, but the Adidas-style of the shoes still sticks out. It clashes too hard.
It's a long shot, but if they changed the Peter Parker model in the first game, they can definitely remove those sneakers.

And also wear the hood over his exposed hair
And maybe dilute the blue so that it's more white with a hint of blue

Pat seeing two friends act friendly and care about each other and thinking it's
gay or homobait shows he's most likely never had a close friend and that's really sad.

To be fair once pat opens up his mouth, bro is insufferable. I ain't surprised if woolie was his only close friend.
Reminds me of how Woolie and he at some point said that kanji from p4 had to be gay. I love this podcast, but I sometimes wish someone they knew would call them out when they make dumb lgbt headcanons.
No but is that the actual vibe of how he's describing his issue with Spider-Man and Venom's relationship in this game? He thinks its being so melodramatically gay and thinks it makes no sense for Peter to be this emotionally invested in Venom-Harry because its not his best friend anymore or something like that?
Because having played the game myself, I do not get how this is even an issue??? It really feels like Pat thinks they're friendship is so gay it makes it unrealistic when its literally fucking close best friends who are both guys, like wtf. Am I misinterpreting this?
@@tyomega9939 Easy. Pat is just averse to honesty and vulnerability. While simultaneously having his ability for media literacy dictated by what feels like a fucking toin coss every time he open his mouth.
Haven't played the game yet, but if Im understanding this correctly, Miles has been promoted from sidekick to third wheel?
It's a plot point.
Honestly, MJ felt like a third wheel in the relationship between Peter/Harry. Miles spends most of the main storyline doing stuff unrelated to the main storyline until the final act reinstates him into the actual story.
If you dont vote for me energy 😂
I really don't understand what about MJ in this game offended Pat so much I though she was fine? Her gameplay sections in the first game weren't great but they were a lot better in this one and there's only like three of them. Thinking back to the end of the game I have no idea what about her ending would have made Pat gasp in disgust nothing about her in the game was that offensive.
If you want the context, he's talking about SPOILERS:
when she became a podcaster and Pat talked about the timing of something being inappropriate due to the C-vid epidemic that happened recently. I didn't really understand the 2nd thing to be honest, but I think I just lack context.
I had issue with how forced it felt with making her part of fights where by rights she died a hundred times over but instead her little phaser gets her through any situation while shrugging off crossbow bolts to her shoulder.
Her gameplay sections suck and no one wants them
As a black man I can confirm that black people do indeed rep Adidas more specifically the classic samba since the time of run DMC they have an entire song
Peter has soem good non-movie suits in the game but yeah the majority of his cooler suits either aren't in the game or are relegated to DLC
also i used to be in different towards Miels's Adidas suit but knowing that they designed hte suit and hte game calls it a "Miles Original" has slowly made me turn on it
Venom is kinda lame in this but I'll always be excited by Tony Todd
Venom suffers from a problem I think plagues most of Insomniacs villains. They want him to be sympathetic but they also need him to function like a super villain, so you get a scenario that is more contrived than if you just write him as a straight up menace. Venom should be a terrifying but he’s made dramatically inert by the fact that Harry ‘s lovers quarrel with Peter is playing out through him. Ultimate Spider-Man was the last time we got a good video game adaptation of Venom wherein they just let Venom be a monster & the guy inside the suit wasn’t our friend who needed a hug
Ah the old "these two male friends are close so they're gay" shit. Straight men still not allowed to have close friends, show affection, or be vulnerable with each other i guess. I know Pat doesn't really mean to, but that mentality is what produces toxic masculinity. Stop accusing men of being gay over stuff like this.
It's like Bayonetta all over again.
He's an old man now let's give him a break
@@LilAnonomus You say that, but I just hear, "Insult the old man for being a wrong idiot."
If that’s causing toxic masculinity maybe think about why you think being called gay is a bad thing
@@oceandragoon3099 because it's bad to assume people are something they may not be? Do you ask trans people why them being called the wrong gender is a bad thing?
you gotta wonder, at which point did insomniac get a deadline? because this game feels like it's missing and entire act, or maybe a little bit of each act. also sidequests that have no payoff but instead are set up for future dlc maybe? but there's no dlc announced so those sidequests may as well not exist.
Ah, like a comic event
There should have been, at minimum, three Kraven fights. Once with the regular suit, where he gets his ass kicked and almost gets killed, then once with the black suit, where he gains the upper hand until Kraven discovers its weakness to sound, and finally, the fight that actually takes place in the game.
I'd say it's a bit short-sighted to say those quests exist for no reason, they're to set up future antagonists. That said, I might agree with the idea that there was some fluff or other content cut. It doesn't feel rushed as a whole, but the pacing of the story does at least.
I haven’t really dug into the most of the side quests yet, but the “set up for future entries” feeling of the side content was also present in Miles Morales & The City That Never Sleeps. The Wraith/Hunter missions both ended with a twist reveal of a classic Spider-Man villain much like that quest in Miles Morales where you learn the Kingpin was behind it. I doubt those villains were ever intended to be in this game. But we’ll no doubt see then by Spider-Man 3
@@HellfireComms there's no DLC announced as of yet. there could be no payoff for all we know. even in miles morales there were those sidequests where the big reveal is kingpin is doing stuff from prison and sets up his comeback or whatever, but it's never brought up again in 2.
I feel like I’m alone in that I liked the Mary Jane segments in both games. It felt like a refreshing break from the usual fast pace of the gameplay.
Miles wearing an Adidas sponsored suit...
Isn't that like how the Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles and Ghostbusters keep eating crappy Pizza Hut and Papa John's pizza instead of local New York pizza that's literally on every single block? Or the Silver Surfer movie where the Fantastic Four had their jet sponsored by Honda or something?
More like if the turtles had Pizza Hut decals plastered all over their shells
Also no one cares about the fantastic 4 movies, so they can do whatever the hell they want
I promise you. Us black folks hate that fucking suit as well.
This is the third man? Why's it called Spider-Man 2?
the mj post-covid podcast
Turning MJ into Solid Snake really took me out of the story that was happening on screen. I really dislike this trope of comic media adaptation where they make the love interest into a journalist or tech support so they get involved in the action. It feels like they turned MJ into a really bad wannabe Lois Lane and her finale was hilarious. I wish they had an extra scene of Pete and MJ talking and resolving their feelings that were obviously outed by the symbiote but they just go through it and never bring it up again. I wish they kept MJ a model or actress and still show she is badass, independent and spunky. In here she and Pete behave like an overly Christian boomer couple.
I really loved the first game and I had fun with the sequel but the writing for a lot of things never meshes well, the material is there but they don’t land as well as they should.
PS: Pat please I know Venom and Spidey art fringes on vore and can be a bit sexy since it’s inception but the relationship Peter and Harry have here is entirely Platonic not gay or queer bait. Come on man grow up a little. You can tell they literally have no one else and why they are so close to each other, especially Harry.
She was a reporter/blogger in the ultimate run
@@crazygamer4260 yeah I know but this version sucks so much and has no personality whatsoever. The final nail in the coffin for me was her quitting professional journalism and making a podcast called “the new normal” like come on Insomniac, you can do better than that.
@@Plasmacat1 Ehh, I disagree on her having NO personality. Headstrong, but compassionate is still a personality trait even if it kind of pales in comparison to "Parker Luck" (tm).
@@HellfireComms eh I don’t like it. On some runs MJ literally tells super villains to buzz off to their face. She is a strong moral and character on her own right but a lot of modern writers think female characters only work if they’re actively “badass” which is just lame and turns them all into the same template. You already have Yuri and Felicia for the badass factor now show other virtues and strengths in women like MJ, Rio, etc.
Remember in the amazing comics MJ pulled out a gun and fired it at goblin
Imma say it. I liked the suit. I changed the colors but didn't feel the need to change the suit
I honestly don't really get the backlash to the ending costume. Like, yeah, if the rumors are true about Adidas then that's more than a valid reason to hate on it, but just looking at it in the game I don't get why people are so down on it. It's by no means my favourite Miles suit. The shield suit and the jazz attire are probably my top picks, but the ending outfit I'd describe as "fine". At least it's unique, unlike 85% of Peter's outfits.
Okay, I looked up the suit. I don't hate the suit. I hate the hair sticking out of the top, and I hate the Adidas. Get rid of those two things, it's perfectly fine. In fact, get rid of those, it'd be one of my favorite Miles suit.
The 19 inches of Venom are even more understood by the end of the game.
The "writing consultation" firm that worked on this game and others has an *interesting* track record.
I'd say the name is more interesting.

@@gameb9oy I'm not so sure, when Woolie started playing XVI and Mass Effect Pat started talking about it all over again instead of waiting til Woolie at least finished the game first. He really can't help it.
I love Mary Jane in comics, the ultimate comics, the 90’s animated series, that one scene in Spider-Man Unlimited where she’s a supportive wife, and in The Spectacular Spider-Man where she’s not immediately in love and meant for Peter, she’s her own character who obviously has some mutual attraction to Peter but isn’t pinning for him she just sees the good qualities in him but still does her own thing. PS4/5 MJ is one of my least favorite takes on MJ. Every aspect of her doesn’t feel like it works. Laura Bailey is a damn great voice actor. She doesn’t feel like Mary Jane in THIS Mary Jane. And I’ll never forgive them for that. LB could’ve been a great MJ if it was a different MJ, but she has to be this one. There’s no Jackpot! You don’t have to make MJ fight to have her be cool!
"never forgive them" come on dude. a bit dramatic don't you think?
tbh this Mary Jane is one of the better ones in recent memory. Also you're comparing a child (yes, a teenager is still a child) to an adult with actual responsibilities. Of course they're going to act different. Not to mention their relationship has been through a ton of ups and downs already that we weren't privvy to.
@@miguelnewmexico8641exaggeration is dramatic, man.
@@HellfireCommswait….what child are you talking about? Only child version of MJ I mentioned is Ultimate and Spectacluar, the rest I mentioned are adults. Being an adult doesn’t mean the character has to feel unengaging or unlikable. The first game didn’t do her any service, and the second didn’t have her be as insufferable as the first but her inclusion for gameplay felt just as inorganic.
Miles Adidas suit looks like its meant to look like those old lightup sketchers.
Shit looks like it was designed in the early 2000s to pander to pre-teens.
Miles really gets the short stick in this game. Nearly every moment he has he has to share with a just-okay side character who narratively robs Miles of his agency constantly. It's so frustrating, the few moments he got to himself were great. The supposed passing of the torch fell so flat because of it.
I think MJ gets way too much hate in these games
I do too, but I do think Insomniac really hasn't done a good enough job with MJ in general in terms of involving her in the story or the direction they took with her. I honestly think she's way better here unlike what Pat says, but I do still believe her character in the first game was honestly a bit insufferable and pace-breaking at times.
She's not particularly interesting in these games at all. They made her the most boring part of a Spiderman game, not surprising people didn't connect to her.
She’s just not fun. And her character isn’t fun. And I don’t buy her learning karate from Silver Sable. The enemies can take miles venom electricity, but god forbid a stun gun touches them. She’s not MJ.
MJ doesn't need to be a protagonist.
It's fine if a Spiderman game isn't about women and women's feelings. It's fine. It's okay. We'll manage.
@@NDenizen Mary Jane is a pretty important character in Peter's life. Fleshing her out is a good thing, I dunno why you're trying to turn it into some kind of conspiracy.
Miles' final costume is one of those ones that look meh at first but it looks great in motion with the particle effects on with the blue.
and nowhere near the worst, though again some of the crappier suits look meh at first but look better depending on the lighting (some light/glow in the dark etc) and particle effects going on with the suits
BUT - the post-story suit you get for Peter for 100% the last side mission freaking sucks because it's a reskin of a suit Miles gets way earlier in the game just by leveling up.

I dont mind it honestly lol. Its definitely a bit much, but i dig the visible hair
For practicality’s sake the hair being out is a terrible fucking idea. It gives enemies something to grab and makes Mile’s 100x more recognizable to anyone who knows him
@logandh2 I mean if you wanna go down that route, most of the costumes are dumb practicality wise. All of the cowled/caped outfits are in the trash by that logic when they're also some of my favourite suits

There's only the two Spiderman games going on right now, and they're basically 1 and 2. So I'm not too sure about the too many Spiderman games.
You're conflating ALL Spider-Man media here. The Spider-verse allusions in MSM2 are pretty minimal and actually completely optional.
What are you talking about by too many? You make it sound like a Spiderverse game was made and the closest thing we had to that was years ago. The game out right now only focuses on two.
What other Spider-Man games are you playing?
Im pretty sure there's literally the same amount of MJ scenes as the first game actually. Doesnt make it better though. I did like the atmosphere of the one in peters neighborhood, but it was god damn silly how I solid snake'd my way through the entire section by making a noise in the same spot and knocking out the dude who investigates it like 15 times in a row.
