    I have owned my GV80 3.5 Prestige for 10 months and I really don't have any dislikes about it. The exterior chrome trims add to the beauty of the vehicle and increase the curb appeal. The lower interior trims are not cheap down grades but act as a more durable and practical surfaces where the feet might hit and the bottles and garbage people put in the lower section. I don't think a fine leather surface would hold up down there. When you learn how to use the control wheel on the console things become easy and accessible from a driving position and if you are reaching for the screen then you have not mastered the console controls. As for the screen itself, 14.5" is very nice unlike a lot of luxury SUV's that glue a tablet to the lower dashboard. The GV80 is ahead of all others like Audi, BMW, Lexus, that have been regurgitating the same old designs for 10 years and make little changes. People don't stop and stare or ask questions about Audi, Lexus and so forth because they are stale and nothing is outstanding about them. The GV80 and GV70 vehicles are innovative, beautifully designed and stunning to look at. Drive a GV80 for a month then go back to a BMW or Lexus and then you will appreciate what a Genesis is all about.

      I don't disagree. If you notice, I mentioned that I was nitpicking. All those cons aren't bothersome to me...but I didn't want to seem that I was being biased. I do admit, that most likely I still have to master the console controls to avoid reaching the screen. Aside from that though, all else is great! And definitely agree with your comment regarding the design - very different to those other more established brands. I do get a lot of people complimenting on the SUV....I'm glad you're enjoying yours and thanks for watching!

    Drives me nuts that ALL reviewers complain about 'cheap' low level plastics. They are specifically hard wearing low level plastics which are more likely to be contacted by feet getting in and out or dirt from feet and hence need to be able to stand up to it and be cleaned easy. Literally all reviewers bang the same drum without actually thinking why it is that way

    • @RichWithCars
      @RichWithCars  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed - only reason why I said that is because (like I mentioned in the review) I was nitpicking....but it truly wasn't something that bothered me. Frankly, you don't notice it unless you're specifically looking for it. In many reviewers' defense, that's what they do - looking for the smallest things - whether good or bad...

    I’ll comment on your dislikes, I LOVE the chrome, grew up in 50’s/60’s, sooo much chrome, took me a while to like the black plastic. I went and sat in a Gen gv80 today to get a feel and see what others had complained about. I can reach the far side of touch screen when I stretch a bit, but also like the dial control as it clicks lightly which makes for more precise selection. You mentioned back doors only open in front, try growing up with no power steering, no air conditioning, only opens with a key, Manuel roll windows, no seat belts except when mom throws her arm across your chest so you don’t smash your face in the dashboard, manually adjusting side view mirrors, for starters 🤪 if the bottom part of door isn’t as plush, oh well. I know I’m CRAZY for the ambient lighting and you get to change it to boot! I wish they would’ve made it more extreme like in their sedan g90- the whole cabin is lit! Soft close doors are awesome, and I find the door opening is nice and I don’t hit my head, but I do in my Malibu if I don’t duck every time. Blessings!

    Sorry; I absolutely love the exterior chrome accents and think it adds a luxury look to the vehicle -- go figure. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." And, shouldn't be included in a critique of a car; this is a subjective issue.
    The real issues that bug me are: 1. The rear door lock/unlock thing. 2. Lousy map view compared with Google maps or Apple. 3. Noisy engine on acceleration. 4. Small door pockets compared with most other cars I looked at. 5.
    Things I really like:
    1. In Eco mode, this car can coast forever; great gas saver.
    2. Blind spot camera view with activation of the turn signals; initially, I didn't trust this feature, but now that I do it helps keep my eyes on the road rather than having to turn my head. And yes it's better than the side view mirrors.
    3. Brake Hold mode: Turn it on, and it works with every subsequent stop -- unlike in my previous car (Mercedes), one had to activate it at every stop with a double brake pump.
    4. Storage space for the luggage compartment privacy cover; this gets stored under the storage space floor, with the perk of additional storage space for hiding my expensive camera gear.

    • @RichWithCars
      @RichWithCars  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RichWithCars i don’t think it’s much different actually on the 2022 from what I’ve seen. I bought my 2021 GV80 in July an love it so far. My dislikes are small:
      1) Sometimes the door handle isn’t as sensitive as i wish when i attempt to lock the door. Of course i know that also depends on the connection to your key fob but occasionally i have to hit the button a 2nd time to lock.
      2) When i get off a highway ramp with my blinker still on and then for whatever reason I need to switch the blinker the opposite direction, the camera on the dash has a slight delay in switching cameras from one side to the other. I just wish i was a little quicker. May not matter as much in your area or traffic conditions.
      3) The seatbelt alert can be annoying. I always wear my seatbelt but I’ll give you an example. The other day while pulling up to my mailbox i took my seatbelt off before the car came to a complete stop. As excepted the alert started beeping. I put the car in park an exited the vehicle while it was still running. When i got back in the car the seat belt alert was still beep literally until i put my seatbelt in the buckle. Even though the car was in park an i got out of the chair. This has also happened when my passenger has taken their seatbelt off before I’ve stopped to let them out, they get out an it just keeps beeping. More of a software issue i believe they should be able to update hopefully.
      That’s really all i can think of that i dislike in the last 6 months. I have a 2.5 prestige, just hit 8k miles

    No comment about the self leveling headlights? Wish the vehicle had turning headlights. However, maybe I have reversed what it does have as both would be perfect. Hardly anyone comments on these features. I do wish that the rear window wiper was hidden like with the Lincoln Aviator. Looking forward to seeing if the GV 80 will become an EV. While door releases on the rear ones would be nice I am used to not having it with my 2011 MKX. I like the chrome also as some have mentioned but being an old geezer I grew up with lots of chrome on cars.

    • @RichWithCars
      @RichWithCars  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know of any self leveling headlights on this GV80. The hardware on this SUV, is supposed to have a matrix LED array that can light up different parts of the road depending on the conditions and other vehicles surrounding the car. Unfortunately though, it seems that Genesis didn't apply it to the North American market. This is very similar to what they did with AR (augmented reality) GPS....it's available, but they didn't apply it. I'd assume it's a software based adjustment...

    • @phlotographer

      @@RichWithCars TY for the info. Even when I spoke to sale staff at Genesis I got one answer -- "Yes the car has self leveling headlights" but sometimes reviewers will agree and others either don't know or say NO! I think no one seems to have the info or does not know to test the car at night. I get the same answer related to headlights that turn when the car corners on the highway. The interesting thing is that my '69 Citroen DS 19 Palas had both and Citroen introduced that feature on their vehicles in 1955 so no manufacturer can blame it on "there is no technology for that" excuse.
      Same thing I feel about no method to advise the driver of a single or more than one brake light/tail light gone out which the driver has no way of knowing yet one gets beeped at for not having a seatbelt on and we can tell folks to put the hands back on the steering wheel and Hyundai has vehicles that can show the blind spot area on the instrument cluster. Interestingly again is the fact that my '88 Cadillac had little lights inside at the rear windshield area that would notify the user if a light was out so the tech is available.
      Often today it is impossible to get people's attention due to paranoia about being attacked or hijacked when a driver tries to advise them of an issue with their lights.
      Maybe is YT creators of vehicle reviews would communicate with the dealerships that changes required might actually ever get made.

    My top 5 dislikes on my 2021 GV80 Prestige after a year of ownership;
    1) glitchy nav system
    2) hvac controls that stopped working on the passenger side
    3) glitchy tech throughout the car
    4) the rough ride from the 22” wheels
    5) the headlights are not that great at night
    6) the shitty service and fact I have to stand in a lineup behind 10 other Hyundai customers to get my Genesis serviced (bonus dislike)
    My top 5 likes;
    1) the style of the 22” rims and the entire car
    2) the amount of tech for the price
    3) the sound system
    4) the interior style and comfort
    5) cannot think of a 5th
    I sold it back to Genesis after a year and bought a boring but reliable Lexus RX350. No regrets whatsoever!

      Also for the record this wasn't them being cheap. It is in my opinion a better design if u put leather or suede around the bottom of the doors and seats it's going to look awful after a short time of use. Those materials are not easy clean and wiped off. So I don't believe they were cutting corners to be cheap it just makes more sense

    Genesis is the most powerful car in the world

    • @RichWithCars
      @RichWithCars  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most powerful in what sense? If it's in regards to engine power - not so sure about that. But if it's regarding as a car company, then I could agree, as they're starting to release really impressive vehicles.

    I've had my GV80 2.5T Prestige for about six months. My top dislikes:
    1) No spare tire in a 70K car that's designed to be a highway cruiser.
    2) Idle start/stop only engages when crossing dangerous intersections. At the drive-through it disables itself. Some people are jamming bread clips in the button just to make it go away.
    3) Butt massager feels like sitting on two baseballs. Want it to go away too.
    4) 2.5T Prestige isn't as prestigious as 3.5T Prestige which get more cool stuff.
    5) Stealerships are charging too much for them... I paid 7K over MSRP and got suckered into Auto Butler for $1200 more. 🤬

    • @RichWithCars
      @RichWithCars  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ya I'd agree with some of your dislikes. But the main one I didn't mention (not having to do with the car itself though, is the ATROCIOUS SERVICE - both from corporate and from the dealership) AWFUL! DISGRACEFUL...

    • @godblesshamas

      @@RichWithCars I think that why some people call them overpriced Hyundais. It's a whole other experience walking into a Mercedes dealership. Those guys tried to charge me full new car MSRP for a used GLA so to be fair everyone is getting in on the price gouging these days. That's why I've pretty much decided on a Model Y actually. I'd rather buy direct and cut out the middleman. Car is nice too but might have gone with an EV6 GT instead if thing had worked out differently with the GV80. Anywho... 'nuff said.

      @RichWithCars  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@godblesshamas yes I see your point. That EV6 GT is pretty nice though. Unfortunately, not sure if I could ever recommend any of the Hyundai/Kia brands to anyone based on my experience on their luxury side with Genesis. I definitely respect your choice with the Model Y - only downside there (based on what I've seen) is quality control and poor fit and finish. I'm very curious to know your experience with it! Congrats on the Model Y nevertheless! 👏
