      I thought you'd mention that Paul says the Baron will die like an animal. This is clearly a reference to the Gom Jabar which is used to kill people who fail the Bene Gesserit test for humans, and is what Alia uses to kill him in the book

      I think the author was trying to tell us something. The religious manipulative sect that tries to control politics and everyone from behind uses Hebrew words to describe their Messiah, kwizat Hadarach. While the poor desert people that have their resources stolen and are fighting against oppressors use Arabic words like Muadib an Mahdi

    One thing I noticed was how Paul becomes even paler with dark circles around his eyes after taking the Water. It's a visual reminder that drives home how physically devastating the experience was to him, that no male in history before him survived and makes his newly-discovered Harkonnen ancestry visually apparent. He becomes even more ruthless and starts wearing black to show he's not much different from them at that point.

      another visual cue is the black cape he uses after drinking the water of life. until that point his clotes are all equal to the fremen, then after the water he uses s black cape.

    The reason that Paul and Feyd are roughly equal in their evolution under the Bene Gesserit eugenics program is that they were meant to be the parents of the Kwisatz Haderach. Jessica was ordered to bear a daughter to Leto, so that she could be wed to the Harkonnen heir (who turned out to be Feyd). Jessica screwed up their plans by having a son, rather than a daughter.

    • @BrianOrangehouse
      @BrianOrangehouse 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      I thought it was strange that in the movie Jessica is portrayed as choosing to have a son so that he might be the Kwisatz Haderach, but in the books she chooses to have a son as an expression of her love for the duke. In the books, she didn't even know about the breeding plan until after Paul was born. At least that's how I remember it - is that right?

    I didn't read the books but what I noticed in movie was how Chani is afraid of prophecy of her name. When Paul asked her what her name was, she said Sihaya and she didn't like it because it was name from some prophecy. And when Paul drank the Life Water and his mother forced her to help him, you can hear the prophecy ,,when the desert spring..." (I don't remmeber rest of it) but when she saved him prophecy fullfiled. And I think that's another reason why Chani was so pissed. Not just Paul completely changed and seems only she can see it, but she was fighting whole life for freedom and didn't believe in prophecies, just in herself and power of her people and even if she try so hard she ended up stuck and fuffiled prophecy like all the effort was for no use of it... (and sorry english is not my first language).

      From what I remember in the book, Chani was a ride or die gal, and was 100% with Paul and his decisions. In the movie, they transferred some of the fremen's distrust of Paul being the messiah to her character, so that the audience could better see it with the limited screen time the movie has. I think that for the purposes of the movie, it worked well to convey this.

    • @spidavenom4
      @spidavenom4 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

      @@netanmaldoran4816Denis said the point of Chani’s change from the book was to give the audience a better look at how manipulative the prophecy is because Frank Herbert accidentally wrote it so well, a lot of people loved Paul as a relatable, reluctant messiah who just wanted to be among the people. Frank was pissed that’s how many ppl took the portrayal. It’s the main reason Herbert ended up writing the rest of the books.

      @jonsaboe2019 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +38

      Sandworms are ridden until they are exhausted. Once at a stop, riders disembark, and the worm swiftly tunnels down into the sand to rest. That is why long trip distances are measured in "thumpers". A 20 thumper trip means that 20 worms were summoned and then ridden to exhaustion.

    • @AG-el6vt

If I remember right, even the Fremen were sending bribes of pure unrefined spice to the guild in exchange for the removal of spy satellites over Fremen territory.
      Lynch hammered this home with how the navigators were getting sick from lack of spice and even threatened to put the Emperor in a pain amplifier if he didn't get spice production back up.

    His behavior change after taking the water of life is motivated also by vengance and fear. In the begining, Jessica warns him that his father “didn’t belive in revenge”, signaling to the duke’s more compassionate nature, diferent from Paul, who in the books is said to resemble more his grandfather, the Old Duke. After unlocking his powers, not only he accepts his “terrible purpose”, but also utilizes this to revenge his father. The fear comes from the visions in wich he sees Chani dying if the Harkonens and the Emperor keep Arrakis. Since he forsees that, in most futures, she stays with him, he takes on the role anyway, waging war, also for his fear of loosing his beloved Chani. Anyway, deep down, he’s still human and is motivated by human feelings, his persona is intact. Diferent from pre-borns (nod to his son, Leto) who are not so held back and, thus, can take on harder choices… but that’s another story 😄

      Yeah. I get the feeling that 'modernity' contaminated the movie. Chani switched from being loyal, loving, and supportive to becoming a defiant strong independent wahman who don't need no Paul, as well as being an ardent anti-theist. The religious Fremen, which in the book were all of them but in the movie only consisted of the 'Southerners', became totally braindead morons who mutter "As it is written" a lot and suddenly became incapable of independent or rational thought about midway through. They also cut out her having Paul's baby, because reasons.

      @druidriley3163 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, because in the books, the Fremen were more patriarchal. Chani in the movie says Fremen men and women are equal, but in the book, they weren't. Fremen men were in charge, they could have multiple wives, wives were traded off if a man fought for her, so book Chani was OK with Paul taking Irulan as a wife because she knew she was Paul's real love, they'd been together for years, had had a child together and other relationships were allowed to Fremen men. Movie Chani was not raised like this, nor was she with Paul long, so she was less accepting.

    I'll be rereading the first book because of how they portrayed chani. She never chalenged paul in the books and the two of them were deeply in love. She never went to the deep desert. All of her scenes in this movie made me cringe. Her complaining of manipulation were actually the lines of lyet kynes before he died. So they butchered a cool character in the first book only to make mary jane's character seem more important in the second.

      L take chani is more like one dimension in book just a battle machine she even has lesser importance In second
      Here she was not forced but well developed woman

    • @carlosdias854
      @carlosdias854 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@prakhyatsingh263 well developed woman? One dimensional character? Of course not, chani had her part to play in the books as a plot device and paul's weakness exploited by his enemies. There was no need to make her into a main character when we had characters like jessica and alia in the first books and the bene gesserit like lucilla and odrade later on who by the way had a much more interesting arc other than being a developed woman, wtf? As it stands, the story can't progress and all that because they wanted to shove zendaya somewhere in this movie. That's what happens when script is done by those who don't understand the books.

      @@marlonmoncrieffe0728 yes, of course he was butchered. Lyet kynes had a lot more depth in the books and was the de facto leader of the fremen. He was the one worried the his people would be controlled through faith and foretold paul becoming a dictator right before his death in the middle of the desert. Paul could only become the lisan al'gaib because lyet died.

      @@carlosdias854 Books have a lot more leeway to write about minor characters. Movies don't have that kind of time or money. Did Liet Kynes' existence really affect the storyline of Dune other than start the Fremen on the path to terraforming the planet and show how fatalistic they were? No. So why spend the time and money on the character in the movie?

    What purpose did it serve to create a girlfriend for Chani? Nothing. Way too many story holes made for.... reasons?
