Wanted to share a little bit of the break in process of my new 2020 S1000RR M. BMW wants you to put 400 to 600 miles on the bike before you have the first service performed at which point the rev limiter at 8,000 rpm's can finally be removed and we can officially start our build series! You can sign up to support the build and be entered to win this bike here! www.patreon.com/campisicustoms
Jaret Campisi I’m curious to hear what you think of the vibrations above 9k once you get the limiter removed. I was a bit disappointed with the vibration in the bars after the break in service.

My 2020 Yamaha R1 with a 4.5gal tank wont get more than 95mi before the fuel light comes on with "mixed riding". Typically I get 28mpg average and that includes plenty of speed limit riding.
Man awesome experience dude !!! Thank you for sharing your passion man... I love to 2020 s1000rr omg Love your eye for customizing these beautiful machines
haha yeah I'll have to see what it says once I fill it up and empty it out a few more times...maybe it will improve a little over time but yes how you ride definitely changes the gas mileage for sure.
I felt like you were babysitting my kids and sending me a video update telling me the kids are doing good and just playing outside hahahaha. Love it man! Great video!
fuel economy is low during the break in period because of high friction between various parts. Also as the engine functions for a period of time a tiny layer of carbon deposit sits on the piston head and increases he compression ratio a tiny bit. that helps with the efficiency and gives you a bit more mileage as well.....take good care of her. ride safe
My Ducati 1199 gets horrible gas mileage. Maybe 100miles for one tank. But I will admit I'm in the throttle all the time lol.... I absolutely love it tho
A couple of recalls is an understatement!! I cancelled my RR order in Nov becuase of build quality issues. Settled with the Aprilia TV4 Factory instead
It's an awesome bike for sure. It's not as easy to live with on a day to day basis as this bike or some of the other 1000cc bikes BUT its definitely the best looking and has the most character.
must be awesome to ride all year round .. sitting here half way through winter .. missing my bike XD about fuel .. my bike is not a liter bike but damn close (948 cc) and I get around 17 km pr litre so all in all around 290 km in one tank ..
Doing hard break in's can in theory lower the life expectancy of your motor, clutch, gear box etc and risk even breaking something since everything is still settling in, seating together etc.
Sooooooooooo, now Jaret has a BMW S1000RR, the Ducati Xdiavel 1260S, and the corvette Z06, and he's living in Santa Barbara, California, in his own house with his girlfriend.....damn you became a millionaire bro.
BMW should unlock the bike after 600 miles for free . They are the ones who locked it for a warranty purpose and break in . But they charge buyers 400 -600 for the unlock, not fair.
Yes, that is definitely some poor fuel economy. I know riding my 03 R1 which is spirited riding i can get right around 50 MPG on 93. Don't forget, you only have 91 octane out there in California
My favorite 1000cc right here. I'd take this over any italian bike. Kawasaki and bmw are all I want =D I have a 2019 636 right now. It's got great power for a 600 class
Modern tires do not require break in. A couple casual corners with progressive lean angles and some heat and they are 100% ready to rock. It's not like the old days when there was slippery mold release agents to scrub off.
@@JaretCampisi Definitely. I dont play all that nonsense of driving/riding with no insurance and/or no tags. I drive trucks for a living. If I get pulled over I might as well say goodbye to my job as well. LOL.
There’s a lot of controversy about engine break in. There’s been a study done over years that proved an engine being healthier and lasting longer and building more power when broken in a littler harder at the track and on a Dyno. Not voicing any opinion here. I’m just pointing out that there’s a huge controversy about engine break in.
DarkHorse 100% I babied my 5th Camaro And I had the worst fuel economy and power. Took so much care of that car. Still have it today. Got Mustang GT afterwards and did a hard break in, which is when you load the engine and do this repeatedly with heat cycles to get the pistons rings to seat perfectly and honestly, my mustang GT had amazing power and fuel economy. Did the same on my R8 and and had the same results. Not my 1098 was preowned but it was flawless and low milage so I’m assuming it was a Starbucks bike prior to my ownership lol that bike had great power and terrible fuel milage but I can’t really assess it at all. I’ll be grabbing my 20 S1K in May and even with this limiter, I’ll be doing a hard break in by loading the motor and heat cycling it. Looking forward to the break in
For the most part, the break in the manufacturers want is written by legal, not the manufacturers technical teams. Every bike built comes off the line and goes into a testing chamber where the guy runs it through all of the gears, redlining multiple times. It has gone through at least one heat cycle prior to you getting it. The main reason you're told to go easy is for the morons that leave the lot and immediately lowside or highside then blame the bike and try to sue. Technology has improved tremendously. Riders have not. I think there's a lot of information on break in periods from mechanics and there was a page that showed pistons, rings and rods from bikes and cars that were hard break ins and easy break ins. The proof is them saying come in within 60% of the recommended time frame. If it HAD to be done for mechanical reasons, they'd never offer that. I was redlining mine from the dealer, in straightlines of course. Got home and changed the shift light to come on at 500 before redline instead of the 4000 before as it was from the dealership. I rode it like I stole it for 20 minutes, then stopped for a coffer for about 40 minutes, and repeated that until I got home. Bike has been stellar, no issues at all. That being said, the next owner of that bike may not subscribe to the reality of break in and think an easy one is best, so I get the caution part. It's just such a sweet bike it seems such a waste to not wring the neck off of it.
Yeah I think you are dead on here for sure. It's always going to be safer to do a soft break in BUT I don't think a hard break in will really hurt your bike at the end of the day.
