    When I think of what is my brand as an actor, I always see it as what is my type. And it took me a couple of years ago to figure it out. A brand/type reveals who I am and what characters I can portray. I would say my special skills, acting headshots, reels, previous character roles, fashion style, artistic choices, and other aspects speak for themselves.

    I do amateur theatre and my type has been the "neutral looking", professional guy. I've realized this, and I work with it. Loved this video. My thing now is comedy. I'm playing a politician in a farce (Rumors). So much fun!

      If it fits the role, let them show. If the tattoos don't fit the role, cover them up. You don't want anything fighting against the work.

    but as an actor we can be a British suit snob one day like from the tv series the Saint 1962 and another period we can work as an actor on the Mayans like a biker... actors work throughout their life as very different characters, so why are you wanting to limit our expressions? is not limited to one "brand".. look at Denzel Washington in the Hurricane and then look at Denzel in the The Preacher's Wife where he play an angel....
    If we go to one type of casting all the time as a police man for example they end up thinking is all you wanna do and all you try to become.. If you show up in both different style and behaviour for many different roles the casting people calls you back eventually and say, - hey, we got something interesting for you here but as a young dad instead of a police man, would you wanna come in an try out for this role, due to them having seen how hard you work, and how flexible you are as a person, and that you been creative and brave enough to try things differently when only coming in with one audition style every time that clearly did not work for you at first... is better to be in the now and sense what They are looking for than being rigid as a person trying to connive casting people that they must cast you into. narrow field you want them to see. they might see more things in you than you see in yourself so pay attention to small cues of what they like in what you do, all quirks you do by an accident happens and that is often when they notice your authentic way of acting.
    branding I feel is more how I present my person before the audition! how polite I am, how well I am always on time, how well I know the whole script end not only my lines but can equally well support the other actor if she forgets some words, and help her pick up the pace, such things I seen them notice a lot, that you got good work ethics should be your branding, ... do not end up in situations where you are calling them 20 min late and say, hey I cannot find your damn place, where are you??? and come in all sweaty with a half eaten cold sluggish vegan hamburger in your hand and being all greasy and sweaty walking right into their personal space when about to say hello and instead asking them how they are doing start complaining over traffic and taking over the energy of the room and make everyone uncomfortable to have to please your ego...
    those contrasts are branding you for life!
    but to limit yourself to only apply to one typ of roles is not branding!
    that is making the casting people feel you are dead borring and seem selfish to not open up and try something different outside your box and that they instead have to sit and see you again and again as the looser actor that just does not fit the show as a police man but could have made a great young dad in the tv series House Full for example.
    - be brave, and be on time!
    I am not sure I understand you branding concept or agree with it, but I love your channel and think you are doing a great job bad
    I will keep rolling your channel! - have a good day!

    The brand and type are two different thing, this video seems to focus on TYPE, brand on the other hand is what you offer that separates you from all the others that are also the same type as you. It’s your take/personality that makes YOU marketable, TYPE on the other hand is the headshot and characters you would play even including economic level etc. this video is great but it isn’t really BRANDING

  • @diabloakland

  • @jonjonhyper8324
    @jonjonhyper8324 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just wanted to ask! Then is brand something you create for yourself or something that is purely what you "look" on the outside be it physical appearance or what audience think "you look" like?
    Because I have many that say i should do comedy cos i have a goofy face but majoritiy of the roles im getting casted for are villainous roles as i can grow a full goatee beard and i have thick eyebrows!
    Or is brand something that you mould yourself into?
    Secondly, is brand a typecast? For instance im abit scrawny looking now, so what if i train up to become buff! So is brand something that changes along the way? Is it something we can decide purely for ourselves or do you feel is a mixture of generally what you are seen as and HOW u wanna be seen!

    • @Studio24inc
      @Studio24inc  ปีที่แล้ว

      A brand is something you create but should be based off of your look. Actors that have a very distinct look might only have a single brand look. Actors that have more of a neutral look should still choose a brand so they don't get lost in the general. Yes, brand can change, it changes with age and it also can change because you decide to take your brand in a different direction, as you said, train to become buff.

    • @ActBold
      @ActBold ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey JonJon, your brand consists of both your outer (how you look and comport yourself in the world) and your inner (your essence and energy) traits. You should be aware of not only how you are perceived by others but how you'd like to be perceived. Picture of circle that contains all of your inner and outer traits from your point of view and then another circle that contains all of your inner and our traits from the industries point of view. Now push these two circle together until they overlap in the middle. This overlapping section will contain the types of roles that fall into your ideal characters because they will consist of how you are realistically seen as well as how you'd like to be seen. The things in your control generally have only to do with your outer traits but technically if you're out of shape (for example) you could buff up and totally change your type. Think of matthew mcconaughey and how he went from of hollywood heartthrob to a dying addict in Dallas Buyers Club.

    Sounds good and clear! But is it really necessary to decide this for a beginner actor?

    • @Studio24inc
      @Studio24inc  ปีที่แล้ว

      You'll want to have your brand figured out by the time you are seeking agent representation. Otherwise you can take a year to figure it out and see how the market is responding to your headshots and reels.
