Hi Zac, I'm still here. LOL. This video has just sorted an issue out for me. I have a Shredded Dollar Pen Blank I bought from Casey over a year ago and it is see through so have not used it. I damaged my back in January and am still not recovered so fairly limited in what I can do on my lathe and have done a few pens lately. I really wanted to do the Shredded Dollar Blank and now I can. Thanks to you as I had not thought of spraying the inside and the tube. I have had issues when just spraying the tube. Thanks again Zac and take care. Cheers, Huw
I usually use a sharpie to color the brass tube, but I never thought about painting the inside of the blank. What a brilliant idea brother! Thanks for the tip. - Ed
Boy, I've struggled dealing with how to keep the tube from showing through. Evidently my problem was patience. I used the spray paint, but I didn't wait a full 2 days for it to cure. I tried CA medium and 5 minute epoxy to glue in the tubes. The tubes wound up coming loose during my turning. So frustrating! Now I know that I have to wait a good 2 days for the paint to cure. Thanks for the video and Happy Easter!
Maybe also try cleaning the tube off before painting just to ensure there are no oils or other things that may cause a bond issue. If you're having issues glueing tubes in, maybe check out my video on that subject. Might have some thoughts or ideas you can try out: th-cam.com/video/85YuDF2_n9Q/w-d-xo.html
I've had trouble in the past when I used acrylic paints on the tubes and CA glue. Paint globbed up and made inserting the tube difficult. Switched to 5 minute epoxy and the problem went away. Have you or others had similar issues with acrylic and CA? Nice tip about painting the inside of the blank.
After 2 years of turning pens, I still learn from you. Great tips Zac 😄

If you use 5-minute epoxy, you can use a drop of paint to tint the epoxy. Then just glue up the tubes like normal.
That's a good one, I'll have to try that out
Yes, however you still need to be cautious about any air bubbles.

I don't remember having any issues as long as I let the paint fully cure for a few days, but it works fine with spray paint and CA
I agree, spraying in the tube provides much better results to than brushing.
Thanks. I've been using Testors paint but will switch to spray paints.
Give it a try and let me know how it goes for you =D
@@ZacHiggins Will do. Thanks.
Great advice Zac! Really appreciate this tip and can’t wait to give it a shot!
Thanks for sharing!

Hope you like this method. I try to find the easiest/quickest way to get things like this done, and so far this has been the best I've found
Thanks for the tip. Happy Easter.

Very cool. Have you seen the Glitter Spray paints?
No, I'll have to check that out. Thanks Connie =D
Great tip Zac 👍
Thanks brother!!
GREAT INFO MY FRIEND .THANK YOU .THANK YOU .FROM DOUG
Thanks Doug!
That is exactly what I do. Mixing dye with epoxy still leaves blotchy areas.
Ah yeah, it would tend to be blotchy. Glad I didn't try doing the dyed epoxy idea
