For me the clip ons above the tree is good for not only my shoulders but my neck too, i'm sporting a few old injuries , so long rides are a bit of a pain in more than one place.

I agree I think keeping the two visual masses closer together could look cleaner. Looking forward to the wiring, just jumping into that on my GS550 build
Yeah. Sometimes a guy needs to look at a thing for while to hear his inner voice better. My shoulder is yelling, "leave them up!" My artist's voice is saying, "shut up, this is art!"
And I totally agree with the regional dialect statement. I think the same thing when I talk to enthusiasts across the water. It’s quite interesting listening to them and I’m sure it’s the same other way around.

Wheel bearings, steering stem bearings, brake light wire, one the way. Prepping everything for paint. Another month til tax return and then I place the order for the the other 156 parts in my partzilla cart lol.

They make longer hex sockets. Same as your short ones there but should give you the clearance your looking for. Keep up with the build! Can’t wait for the first fireuo

Here is a thought: Raising the fork tubes and mount the clipon on the top, will lower the stance of the front of the bike, but still give a bit of height to the handlebar location, which may be a good thing, if you like the look. Also a café race generally has that lower look to the front.
Thanks. I have settled on lowering the front end by raising the fork tubes in the triple tree, however I have put the bars below the the top triple for aesthetics.
Who makes those bars? I really like that these are fully adjustable where all I can find so far are the ones that only go over the tubes and tighten down. I would like to dial in my comfort a lil more with these bars here! Thank you for your time sir, and for posting...huge help!
That's the same reason I chose these bars - flexibility in adjustment. Just be sure to check they're tight once in while. Could be unnerving to have one drop on you while riding. Link in comments below under Mike Mitchum.

I prefer having the clip on bars above the triple tree because it lowers the front end and allows for a more comfortable ride. The bike is looking awesome, keep up the good work!
Thank you for your kind words. I hear you. It's a struggle between my shoulder and my inner artist. I could still lower the fork tubes in the triple clamp with the clip ons mounted below.

any tips on how to avoid possible slipping of clip ons?
Mine slipped once on one side shortly after first ride. I was parked in sand during filming of my short film and I was jerking up on the bars to pull Mr. Kortan backward. I tightened more and it hasn't happened again. I've torqued them really good. I thought about putting blue locktite on the also to avoid slipping, but haven't done that yet. Hope that helps!

I'm falling so far behind in my gs1100. It's been between -20 and -30 Celsius for about two weeks here now.
Sorry man. I've lived many years in weather like that and I know how the cabin fever gets to a guy. Hang in there. The sun is up a little longer each day in the northern hemisphere. Relief is coming.

How much does lowering/raising the forks affect handling? Does the rear need to be adjusted to maintain balance?
Thanks for watching. Lowering forks increase head angle ever so slightly and will decrease trail a tiny bit, which will make the bike slightly more apt to turn. Can be a good thing, depending on your perspective. If a bike turns in too easily, it can be "twitchy." Some will put on a steering damper to stabilize it some. One should be careful with changes to steering geometry though. They affect stability of the motorcycle.
Can you tighten the part of the clip on that goes onto the fork first, then put the other part on and tighten it second?
Yes. That is what is necessary if you position the bars in a manner that causes an interference with the fork tube brackets. Thanks for watching! :)

I haven't had them on the road yet, so can't attest for their safety. Also can't speak for the manufacturer. Only advice I'd give is make sure they are very tight.

Man, I love your videos but, it just takes you so long to get to the point. Lol....I'm doing a 81' gs650 and I have found my clip-on are Much more comfortable with forks lower and above. Just lower the rear so the geometry matches. Love the work

you need a tripod so you can film when you are actually doing the work. we miss the action when you cut the camera and then come back and its done

Interesting that you're rechecking the valves on your 'Strom. I've got my 2005 DL1000 all torn apart awaiting a shipment of shims myself. tighten the clamp before you put the bar on then there is no interference

Looks great. Good luck with your dime city gauges. I rubber mounted mine and my tach ometer broke at 34 miles. The speedo still works at 130 miles. The front suspension on the gs isn't the best which had something to do with it breaking I'm sure. Roads are a little bumpy here in Chicago land area. You can check out my GS on Instagram @ dw_moto1.
Oh man! If I experience a failure that quickly with my DCC gauges, I'll be doing a review video for sure. I know of others who have used them on their GSs and they've not said anything. Thanks for your insights!
