  • What motorcycle handlebars are best? Traditional bars are more common but the fastest bikes have clip-ons. So here are the differences, pros & cons and which handlebars are better.

I like traditional handlebars for two main reasons:
I can rotate the bars away from me (towards headlight) in order to increase leg clearance (had to do that for the Shadow 1100).
And also, simply because you have more room for mounting stuff. Quadlock for phone, quadlock for a bridge pass, maybe one or two RAM Mount (or Kemi Moto) cup holders, can change mirrors out easily that clamp around a bar in case the screw mount for mirror has been broken.
    Traditional bars are great imo.

Awesome video, mate. Just one thing: you're not supposed to place your weight on your wrists when riding bikes with clip-ons. Instead, you're supposed to grip the tank with your legs and support your torso with your core. The goal is to avoid having any weight on your hands and wrists except when countersteering. The point of alleviating weight from your hands and wrists, aside from saving yourself from wrist pain, is to prevent unnecessary input to the bike.

    • @nirboom
      @nirboom 16 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

The point kind of still stands though
You would possibly get more tired because you use your core more, compared to the upright sitting position of most bikes with standard handlebars

True but it’s hard to do particularly when riding for longer than an hr. Everyone and I mean everyone I know complains about wrist and back pain from riding super sports. Of course there is always that one guy that could ride from NYC TO Cali and not have issues.

@@spartanx169x Not all supersports are the same. Many older bikes and some new ones are not that bad. I have a 2003 FireBlade 954 and just 2 weeks ago I rode from Belgium to Spain, a 1800+ km with the longest day being over 1100km. And I'm not fit by any means and I'm over 50yo. No issues with back and wrists on a sportbike if you ride correctly. I won't say it's comfortable like a GS, but if that's your only bike and you love sportbikes it's not an issue.
I also used to own a 2011 S1000RR. Also good for long distance. For me the only issue is the legs bend. I have an older injury on one knee and I need to stretch it from time to time. That's where the relatively short range helps. I need to refuel about every 200km. :)
I love sportbikes and I'll keep riding them until I can't do it anymore.

When I was a young one I got a bike.....By the time I got into motorcycling, the normal handlebar was engrained into my psyche as the only way to go.....
I love fast sillyness and sbk, but that works only on a circuit...... Having better handling from clip-ons is kinda silly to say (try clip-ons in heavy trafic or dirt, or anything else than going fast, and it's going to get harder faster)....
I kinda love them both, but I'm more of an endurance guy than a fast "all the time" guy, so I want to enjoy my 250 kph for 500 km and still have wrists at the end....

Almost all my naked bikes have clip ons. The problem is that it is quite impossible to find a good quality clip ons for it 😂. I prefer an aggressive riding position but with the looks of naked bikes. That's the main reason 😊.

I used to ride a bike with the clip-on handlebars. It had a little sportier position, but it was purely a street bike, Yamaha YBR copy of copy of copy.
The one I use now has the traditional ones and as some say in the comments, I prefer it because of the space to mount stuff.
I mounted road lights, windshield, phone mount and handguards

One thing missing is that at high speed much of the weight on clipons is cancelled by wind. With "normal" bars you is dragged rearwards. So it depends on what type of riding you mostly do. When we had no speed limits it was comfortable to ride 400 miles averaging 90+ with clipons.

  • @_MisterFish

Clip-ons for me but I also prefer sport bikes over every other type of bike. The look, the feel, and the riding position. So far have no discomfort on multi-hour rides, but maybe my tune will change when that time comes.

Okay this might be an unpopular opinion but bikes with clip-ons shouldn't be on the streets. When someone suddenly pulls out in front of you while you're riding, you'd be better off with a handlebar which gives you more leverage to swerve instead of a clip-on that will make you almost go straight in comparison.
Btw I've owned bikes both with clip-ons and handlebars so I do have experience with both.

I was only riding bikes with clip ons, then I didn't ride at all for quite some time. A few years back I bought a bike again, still sporty, but with a traditional handle bar. I gotta say it took some time for me to adapt. I'm sure it was just in my head, but I felt disconnected from the front wheel, and pushing it a bit harder through the corners felt somehow funny because I wasn't use to bend my arms that much. Now I actually like it, especially the handling at lower speed, and after an hour it's only my knees that make me wanna take a break.
