One thing Marvel didnt handle well with many other things is Thor's Trauma!
For God sake, he endured trauma after trauma! Mother, father, brother deaths, unknown sister being evil, loosing his identity (as he feels)= hammer, his kingdom, repeated humiliation for thousand years old god of not being powerful avenger which is used as joke(understandable), failing to save humanity too from thanos's hand....what marvel did? Drunk jokes, fat jokes, make him more dummer...
They had freaking chance to dive into Trauma handling! Making gods relatable to humans! Showing that even gods are battling for their dead spirited life to have a spark and reason to live! His meditative journey could have dived deeper into! How he battled with his internal cries and weak moments, some psychological aid from his mates, some deep talks, Guardians of galaxy goofed around him, not a single hero took him and his trauma/failure seriously!..i mean for crying out loud sake, Gorr lost his one daughter in his hand and he went out on rampage of killing all the gods! Thats the trauma, rage, miscalculation, twisted sense of living one goes into after a huge traumatic personal loss... where's Thor's redemption arc?
Oh and if the implication is that after reviving the half dead humanity, he probably felt fine, victorious, redeemed...well thats not how it works given the scale of number of losses he endured...soldiers go on battles, wars. Even when they are victorious they come home with trauma, anxiety of post war effects! Victory do not compensate for the traumatic experiences

My question was how the heck was storm breaker part of the lore when it was only created for Thor to use to fight Thanos with. Was it inspired by previous axe with the same name. Details like these are important to prevent confusion.

Having gorr attack olympia would have been great. They could also have used that scene to tell him about Eternity. Maybe he tortures one god after retreating to tell him. It felt akward when they said he won't reach eternity because we weren't told before that that is his plan.
I was also pissed by thor making the same mistake with the bifrost as in ragnarok.
And are you telling me that only asguardians can reach eternity because of the bifrost?
He also gives stormbreaker to a kid. What if it is taken by someone else again? He should put a charm on it like Odin

I'm down for a fun '"Who really cares? Just have fun" romp of a film but maybe the place for it isn't 29 movies into a shared universe where numerous tragedies have occurred and now establishing things that could have absolutely prevented all those tragedies. Like sure I'm willing to believe the humans and even Thor etc didn't know about the 'realm of eternity' but you're telling me Thanos who basically ripped apart the universe finding the infinity stones didn't happen upon the 'come make a wish and get what you want' realm.

    • @plstmb6000

Yeah made sense, but also it's kinda impossible after Hela, because the bifrost is unaccessible, no rainbow bridge and stormbreaker didn't exist yet to open the portal.
But before Hela, yeah it's possible if Thanos had the initiative to attack asgard first. Especially if he knows that Odin is not actually there.

They literally took the Gorr storyline from the books that was deadly serious in it's tone, won countless awards for it's storytelling and art, described as one of the best books ever and brought it to the movie screen not even resembling a percentage of what's in the book. Dumbed it down with countless jokes that fell flat. I understand changing a few things but they took a story and ripped it to shreds. And B4 someone says it's just comic book nerds crying about them changing their favorite characters,a lot of times the story can still be amazing if you left it alone. Imagine lord of the rings,Harry Potter and other books that were made into movies if they just changed majority of it. Hela killed more gods onscreen than Gorr. Thor had to get his teenage self, present and future self to team up to fight him and even that wasn't enough.i thought marvel would get past the bring in badass villains then kill them off after one movie tropes but I was wrong.

    • @mowgli6345
      @mowgli6345 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

They should have never touched the storyline at all to be honest. Everyone is mad about the comedic tone of the film, but look at Waititi's catalogue of work, and Love and Thunder is consistent with it. I'm fairly certain it was widely accepted that Ragnarok was a much needed refresh of Thor's character after the first two films, and it was a bold new direction that you can't just switch back to serious from, esp if you're keeping Waititi at the helm.
Instead of chasing hype, they really just should have left this storyline in the books. There's nowhere they could have gone with it.

The Korg Mother part could be explained as the "mother" is the parent who gives birth, regardless of the fact both parents seem "male". An example I've seen before is used in Mass Effect. Asari are an "All Female" race, in that they all use female pronouns, and appear feminine or as females, but when two Asari get together to produce a daughter, they still call the parent who didn't give birth "Father". So it could be an example like that... or just a plot mistake.

I was already enjoying the film, but once I started thinking of it that way I enjoyed it even more. Plus, it makes the oddly placed jokes and humor make sense. That's exactly the kind of thing I could see Korg do when he is telling the part of a story that he finds sad or uncomfortable.

Actually a lot of people seemed to miss out that Zeus tells Thor that omnipotence city is hidden out somewhere between realms so unless someone's a god or has been there before or know where it is, no one can find this city of the gods, that's why Zeus and all gods wanted to stay there for safety.

Still would have been interesting if Gorr was finding gods and torturing them for information to omnipotence city so he could find the information to eternity. Instead of having a meeting with a bunch of gods and making up some arbitrary justification for why the god-butcher couldn’t be there, they could have made a cool fight scene out of it.

Marvel movies have been around for more than a decade now, they know that the vast majority of the people watching them are not familiar with their comics, so if they had to dumb down their content they would have done it a long time ago.

    • @plstmb6000
      @plstmb6000 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Not dumb down, but simplify. Comics is too weird and too long for live action adaptation.

If they can't do that? Well, people will be tired anyway, there are already many alternatives to marvel movies.

6:15 "Gorr steals StormBreaker" -> This film introduces two contradictions. Stormbreaker is a living being with a mind of its own and *jealous* of Thor's relationship with Mjolnir. But - Gorr just steals it, and it does nothing, does his bidding with no problem. And now Thor can't summon it, even though the whole point is that the thing can reach from here to Eternity - literally. Taika, Taika, Taika, you must take us all for fools. Don't write garbage and serve it to us, again.

  • @Wryvan

I think Thanos doesn't know about Eternity's wish at the center of the universe and Stormbreaker being the key to it. Gorr only knew of it because the Necrosword whispered it to him. The sword's existence predates the infinity stones as far as I can recall.

  • @thejmeister

I was discussing this with a friend. Stormbreaker shouldn't have been the "key" to opening the door to Eternity. It was only forged a few years ago, and I doubt most people don't know much about the weapon and what it can do. There certainly won't be ancient texts about it.
What they should have said is that the power used to seal the door would require something comparable to the Infinity Stones to unseal it, like leaving the Bifrost open too long. Thor can be like, "Well, the Rainbow Bridge was destroyed and there is no way for him to open the Bifrost ... except ... Stormbreaker ..."
It would have given Russell Crowe an opportunity to really shine. Go from playing Zeus all jokey and bombastic, to deadly serious as he realises there is one threat to the gods, and that's if Thor tries to save the Asgardian children and Gorr gets his hands on Stormbreaker. So he tries to force Thor to stay, they fight, Thor leaves, and Zeus is proven right. Atleast until Thor uses compassion and empathy to reach Gorr and change his mind.
I think the failing of this movie is that it sees perfect opportunities to have great acting, great drama, great conflicts, both physical and psychological, and instead it scoffs at them and makes a joke instead. Many jokes. Far too many jokes.
I've noticed that Jaby started off really loving this movie and has gradually become more and more critical of it. Which is right, you should be critical of it. If Marvel think this is what people want to watch, they'll put out more and more of it and the MCU will quickly turn into a bad parody of itself.

It was never Stormbreaker. They said "Bifrost is the key" many times. Stormbreaker has the ability to access the bifrost, which is mentioned when it is forged and how Thor now travels around. With Asgard destroyed Stormbreaker is the only way to access the bifrost. Now if you have problems with them saying the bifrost is the key, thats fine. you are entitled to your opinions and ideas, but it was never Stormbreaker.

The thing about Thanos not using Eternity makes sense lore-wise but wasn't well explained in the film. Eternity is a sentient being prone to subjectivity. 'Erase half of all life.' could be interpreted many ways - as Ryan notes in his Infinity War/Endgame pitch meetings himself. The infinity gauntlet (specifically the Mind Stone) operate from the pure will of the user, essentially auto-correcting all such loopholes and ironing out the kinks to guarantee an outcome as fully aligned to user intent as possible. Thanos meant for his outcome to be exact. Gor was fine if his was messy -- and even the wish he did ask for wound up messy: His daughter revived...But was now a cosmically powered being.

Love and Thunder seriously over did it, but the main issue was "childish" story, the world felt very small.... Ragnarok storyline felt still grand, on physical levels as well as character development levels.....
I think this whole year content of MCU on Disney+ and Movies is burning out the writers and the team...You can now spot cheap VFX shots more frequently....
Although for some reason Disney+ series are clearly much better than movies of phase 4....

My take in why this movie was goofy was because it was a story told by korg to a bunch of children so he's obviously going to make it goofy and embellished a lot of the main moments like all the kids getting powers because that's what you do in children stories. At least thats how I looked at the entire movie but Valkyrie not wanting to die in battle was extremely uncharacteristic of her since that's exactly how she's always wanted to die so she could go to Valhalla.

I had this idea where they could've just shown Omnipotence City in ruins by the time Thor and company arrive there with Zeus being the only survivor who tells them how Gorr butchered all gods in a small flashback montage. Would've given us a Gorr butchering scene as well as a solid reason why Zeus isn't so keen on helping (other than the fact that he's always been a selfish paranoid even in the mythos). The rest could've been the same but at least that part would've made the movie much more interesting imo

@@1am22 That's sad. Because that would've saved them all that fancy VFX budget (since VFX not being finished is one reason we didn't get more butchering scenes) and a bit that in my opinion felt completely unnecessary.

Nah, no need for complete destruction, it makes the eternity plot useless, i prefer only some big gods get killed to incite fear, Thor is the one who responsible cause Gorr followed his ship, he feels bad and banned from there, steal Zeus' weapon, and the rest of the movie happens like what we get.

@@plstmb6000 to be fair, not EVERY god was in Omnipotence City, so it wouldn't matter to the Eternity plot anyways since even after the destruction, there would be a LOT to butcher.

I’m surprised there was no mention of how they contradict what is sort of a Ragnarok subplot by having Thor learn that Mjolnir isn’t the source of his powers yet have it give Jane… his powers.

i guess they literally said that gorr cannot reach omnipotence city

So he messed up with his assessment that if all gods are selfish, why would Thor come to rescue the kids, because Gorr didn't kidnap the kids until after he watched Thor and Mighty Thor fight his shadow demons unselfishly in battle to save New Asgard. After Gorr observed that the two Thors were actually not selfish that's when he got the idea to kidnap the kids (I just said the same thing twice). Thor also did attempt to summon Stormbreaker when he was right next to it. In fact, he tried to grab Stormbreaker but it wouldn't budge. Remember that Taika had the running gag that Stormbreaker was jealous of Mjolnir. That's what made it difficult for Thor to summon Stormbreaker.

      1) Valid point with the kids, also the movie did cut out a lot of scenes that had to do with Gorr as well that probably would have added more context, just my opinion tho.
      2) The point is that Thor could have easily summoned Stormbreaker back to him BEFORE Gorr ever got the chance to even use it or plant it into the ground very easily as distance isn't an issue. There was quite a good timeframe he could have easily done it yet chose to wait til he was within a few feet away. Hell he didn't even seem to care after he came out of the bifrost on earth and just went about his business for awhile. There was no difficulty, just dumb gags and plot devices.

@@demontaco4116 yeah, I agree with you about Stormbreaker. I think Thor should have never summoned Stormbreaker when Gorr was threatening him. In fact, I'm not sure Thor did summon Stormbreaker. Gorr seemed to force Thor's hand open and Stormbreaker just came to him. I could be wrong about that.
