Well said Dainsy, I just wanted to say that you were one of the first youtubers I watched making palletwood projects that got me into doing the same! Over the last 18 months I have managed to earn myself a Thicknesser, jointer, table saw, mitre saw and all the small stuff I have needed, all with profit from making palletwood projects when I started with 0 experience woodworking. Thanks for the great videos and inspiration for everyone out there!
This is really cool to hear, thank you for sharing. I am going to pin this so other can see, You just have to get started!
You just described my experience exactly. Except that I had a fire and it all burned up. But with the help of my community I have managed to repeat the process and am back doing what I enjoy again.
@@Hat6000 Sorry to hear about the fire mate that is rough, but it is great that your community has helped you rebuild! I hope round 2 you got some tool upgrades that you didn't think you'd get for a couple years!
@@Randompikachuisblue1 actually true. I was able to upgrade some of my tools and machines with what I had learned using cheaper ones.
Mark, you are one of the MANY people we don't have of in this world.....if that makes sense....Just a joy to follow you in the side hustle. One month in to my retirement, and can't wait to get back to the pallet hobby once the post retirement jobs are sorted. So good to watch a 'Real' person doing their thing. Thanks for taking us along with you 👍
Cheers
Pete' New Zealand.
Too easy Pete, very happy to be part of your retirement viewing. glad you have the wood work to enjoy your free time too
Seems like you really hit the nail on the head with those mallets!
lol, or the chisel on the head
Nothing says "quality" more than things made by people who are doing what they love. Thanks for all the inspiration and for being an example of the possible Mark.
Cheers mate, very nice to hear
I'll just say I don't hate wood turning, watched a bunch of your mate Dales videos because he is excellent at what he does! Found him because of you, found you because of Jesper!
I think you guy are all quality human beings, and sometimes it seems like a rarity!
Thanks very much mate. I hope it rubs off on many people 🫡
“If you do what you love, you will never work another day in your life”. Some wise guy 👍. I’m hearing you dainsy. The worst thing you can say is “what else can go wrong” because whoever is in charge up there takes that as a personal challenge. All the best mate. I really like the odd shaped mallets too. Cheers from the Isa. 👍
I used to believe that. Now I believe that the things you love should be kept separate from work, or you risk ruining that passion for it.
Yeah I avoid saying that.. because I agree lol Stay cool out there
it is a fine line hey
@@dainermade yeah I was supposed to fly to Townsville to see mum in law for Easter but have too much on so missus went by herself to see her. I’m thinking I’ll get heaps done while she’s gone but the dishwasher drain cracked and the old chipboard cupboard soaked up the water and has stuffed the lot. Guess what I’m now doing 😂😂🤦♂️🤦♂️
Hello Mark,
I still continue to watch you with pleasure. Your inspiring projects are really beautiful. I love woodturning. Enjoyable job. Thanks for sharing the details. Take care of yourself. Your friend Mehmet
Watched for the first time about six weeks ago, subscribed and watched every vlog since, love the banter with the other pallet youtubers . Very likeable fellas . Keep them vlogs coming dianer , in time i shall purchase a mallet😊
will do mate! thank you
Hell Yeah! Dainer, it's been a while since I caught up to the channel. But you're the first person I watched when I was starting my journey and your attitude made me commit to it! Thanks and let's gooo!
Dainsey luv the channel don’t ever change a thing you and your methods appeal to every Joe Public that watches the channel that works in his shed down the garden with limited funds ,many people can relate to you thanks from the Uk.
To easy mate. This is the plan for the channel for a long while yet
Whinging pom here....love your content...love your creations...love your attitude...fair dinkum ya mad gala!!✌️
Here here, love this channel❤
I like the story aspect to this video. Many of us hustlers can relate!
So much of this resonated with me right now. I turned leatherwork into a side hustle. I got the thousands spent in tools and materials back and covered over about 18 months and that was exciting. Having a creative hobby that payed was a dream come true (im living in a flat so limited to when i can make wood working noise so that option was too limited). but I soon found turning out a couple of the same items over n over was killing my love for the work and taking my time away from my other hobbies. I wasn't innovating new stuff which is a huge
Part of my joy. I've toned down my self promotion and stopped putting things on social media and now only take on custom work. Less $$ coming in but I have more time for the rest of my life and I'm genuinely excited to get into my leather workspace and make again.
Finding the balance in life, regular job and passion hobby side hustle is so important. And hard 😂
If I win the lotto, set up a large workspace where I can make noise, I'll go full time and get stuck into the woodworking again.
Im so chocked full of ideas to combine wood, leather and metals so fingers crossed for the lotto win 😂😂
Luv ya work Dainsy! 👍
Excellent advice, side hustle hobbies that bring joy and coins, we may be small “tubers” with tiny sheds, but we make the best of it and enjoy every minute of it 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Couldn’t afford a sign or mallet on the site this week, but I did buy a couple of the plans for $5. Might be an idea to have a few more of those things to buy? Rock on.
I liked the video and commented to help the side hustle of the side hustle
Much appreciated. Thanks again
Went to look and they are all sold out, good job
Retired. Hobbyist sawdust maker. No side hustle due to housing rules. Love yer stuff Dainzie. Take care & stay safe.
thanks mate, bummer about those rules
That mallet's a beauty.
Great video thank you. Fantastic mallets, & sometimes I can feel I’m not getting anywhere with the full business human journey, thanks for sharing too yours 😊😊
Some people still don’t know that you are a legend!
can you please let them know haha... cheers mate that's very nice
Just started watching the video, and now all I want to see is a video with that gorgeous pooch!
haha, he is over due for a cameo
Thanks
Wow! Thank you mate! You Just paid for more dowel 🤣
Your advice is always great mate! Don’t forget to love what you’re doing cuz it’s good for the noggin!
I am a woodworker from south africa ...this video has been so inspirational to me ...myself and my little shop can relate so well to this scenario thank u very much !!!
Thanks for the inspiration to keep chugging along
65th birthday next Weds … marking it with kicking off my woodworking side hustle 😊 … your confidence is infectious Mark. Wish me luck mate. Thanks again for all the inspiring content.
Good luck! you'll be fine though, its fun so you will stick at it and get fully addicted
Love this video, I've been making a full time living making beer mugs, wine goblets, coffee cups and custom scroll saw art at a huge amount of shows in the western new york region for 9 years now. I put in a crazy amount of hard work to make it happen but I owe everything to my now fiance who, without her, none of this probably would have been possible. Never try to do anything on your own. It is incredibly important to make connections and to help one another out. You never know when that kindness will randomly be repaid. It has happen to me many times over the years and i'm always thankful. I sincerely hope one day this can be a full time gig for you and for anyone watching who wants to go down that route as well. It is alot of hard work but it is extremely satisfying and freeing.
I saw the title and decided to watch short video. (under 15 minutes is quite short)
Subscribed !
I'm not a woodworker (retired motorcycle mechanic), but, you tell everyone what's what in a relatable way.
Maybe it's more of an Australian/Antipodean trait?
I'm from South Wales (old south Wales?) living in USA, just about everyone I've met here in last 25 years lies about how they are really doing.
Anyway, I found it kinda funny as I've had same kind of problems, fridge broke, $2,400, cat 'playing' with a snake, got bit, $2,000 at vet, (he won't do that again )
I play with vintage bikes, 1970's Honda and Yamaha, not great as a side hustle but I have fun. (10~15 years ago there was the 'Cafe Racer' fad so things picked up but as with all fads, market went to something new)
Enough BS from me, I'll watch some more vids 👍😁
That’s cool to hear mate, pretty cool that the non woodworker chose to watch. I guess unless you know me, it’s not entirely obvious. Glad the cat is ok 😄
Cheers mate, hope you enjoy a few vids
@@dainermade
I'm finding your video's quite funny, I've done 18~22 hr days when I was younger (35~42) so can relate.
Don't know if you ever watched Ave from 'Canukistan'?
In one of his vids a few years ago he was talking about butchering dead tree carcass .
In the 80's I worked in Suzuki/Yamaha dealers where we had to build the workbenches (brickwork was done so we put 6x10 boards on as tops, at least they bought some bike lifts)
Service Manager was a title but didn't mean much (or anything actually)
Good on ya, mate. I've been wanting to get started for a long time now, I'm a welder/fabricator by trade and have been building up my arsenal - I've got a mitre saw, thicknesser, table saw, track saw and a bunch of other tools. The one thing (and huge thing) I lack is a workshop. I'm trying to score a trailer so I can haul my gear into work and do a lot of it there.
Watching your side, side hustle is one of the main channels that really inspired me to get amongst the recycled wood side hustle, so Cheers mate!
Too easy mate! Sounds like your well under way 🫡
Sorry your lovely dog wasn’t well - hope he’s ok now, my brother’s black coat staffie suffers in the heat too (and that’s Wales not Australia). My dog is white with black patches and when she’s in the heat of the sun you can feel the temperature difference between the black bits and white bits (useless info but I felt the need to share). Went on your website to buy a skateboard mallet but all sold out which is good for you but I’ll have to keep trying… 🙂 My favourite channel, keep up the good work. 👍🙂
Really cool work, I love the style with the different colors
When I get a chunk of money and it immediatly goes to fix something that broke, I try to look at it as "I'm sure glad I have the $$ to fix that!" (Coming after paying three times as much to fix the tractor as I had budgeted....ouch.) Your mallets are beautiful!!
So true! That is the best way to look at it. without out the hustle it would be a crazy battle
It is a fantastic video giving others an insight into the business side of things. Well done. 👏
Keep up the good work Mark. I only WISH I had such restraint to ONLY buy woodworking stuff from projects sold, however, as a person with a few character floors (being neurodivergent), I have an OCD 'dysfunction' to go all in, in whatever I happen to be interested in at the time!
When I 'get going' I HATE to be impeded by anything...which includes tools, supplies etc. I would rather have stuff sitting around for years, than have to wait to get it, when I actually need it! It's not impatience, but simply the fact that sometimes it is so hard to get myself 'ramped up', that it does not always take much to 'strip a cog' and stop again! 😕
I feel another run of 3D printed check square's are long over due. Those things were hotter then Pokémon cards! 😮
mate if your looking for beuatiful grain in timber.....look for the crates that indian sandstone slabs are delivered in. its made from eucalyptus . it solid and rough cut for the crates. run it through the thicknesser and the grain is stunning!! you can charge more with this timber as its a hardwood. and of course stunning
It never ceases to amaze me, that the mistake I made a few days ago, becomes inspiration for a project I'd thought of before.
Man your videos always motivate me! Hopefully I can get where you are one day on my channel. Working on it.
As always thank you! My wife's side hustle as an artist buys way more household appliances than my woodworking, but I'm hoping to contribute some day. I'm ready to grab all the crap from the depths of my garage, uh shop, and make some interesting stuff.
it all adds up in the family budget. Love your user name haha (business name?)
@@dainermade I'm out to save every piece of wood that I can from the burn pile 🙂
I just so love the way this guy produces his content wether making or videography, I learn a lot, as a woman I never feel intimidated for that fact and being a hobbiest woodworker he reaches out to everyone
Thx dainsy, greetings from a Pom in Germany, happy Easter 🐣
That is very nice to hear, and I’m glad it comes across that way. Thanks so much for watching all these years
Hey Stumbled across that Woodworking store in Townsville when l was up there after the Cyclone. What a gem. The lady at the counter was so nice. Wish we had similar on the Gold Coast. 😩
It is magic, I have to take a class there. Out back is even more impressive
I’m jealous!😢
Good job, entertaining videos and newly subscribed. Happy days from scotland 🎉
Love your work, attitude and crafting style. So glad I found your channel. Keep up the awesome work!
Hi down-under, another good video :-) Best from Denmark
Keep cranking Dainsey! You got this, I am pulling for you mate!
If you ever figure out how to do international shipping to the states, you'd have a purchase from me. I love your channel and you always make me feel better after watching your videos. Hoping for your success!
Thanks mate, there has to be a way, maybe I just call them epoxy on the declaration lol
Sorry to hear about your doggo. Glad to see you back.
It's probably been there in other videos, but I noticed at 11:36 the warning sign in the background, that is upside down. I love it!!!!
Nice to see this video right now... I'm in a similar position to you.... ish I'm a firefighter in the uk, I can retire after 30 years service in 11 months and I'm trying to get my side hustle to the point where it will keep my pension topped up. I sell on Etsy, mostly custom signs and other bits that are laser cut and engraved, 2 weeks ago my laser shit the bed and I've spent the last fortnight getting replacement laser tube after replacement laser tube, the last 3 replacements have all been faulty. I finally got it sorted yesterday, started catching up on orders and the water pump shit the bed too 🥵, The replacement literally just arrived while I'm watching this vid, so now it's off to work my fly off catching up!.... The point is that it's ups and downs, savor the good times and hopefully it'll get you through the bad, You're not alone 👍
A very familiar story, well all the best mate. You've earnt an enjoyable retirement... nice to hear wood work is apart of it
Chamfer man down under, I really appreciate your video's. I can tell you are not trying to be funny, you just are! Can't wait for another.
cheers mate, plenty more to come. hopefully sooner, been a bit busy
I hope the new washer lasts longer than the old one! Enjoyed the video despite the cannibalization of the signs.
I don't think any appliances are made to last anymore. Pretty sad really, I sold one sign, Gotta fix the carnage haha
Awesome words of wisdom 👍👌
Dust! Holy bloody shit balls. So dust extraction is the next big $$$$ item. Can't use the joint account anymore because the Mrs is putting pressure on me to make some legendary stuff.
You do a great job and you are so inspiring
Thank you so much! Glad you like it
Well said brother. Seeing the reality and struggles we all go through in different ways definitely makes it that much easier to pull the trigger on picking something up when I have a few extra bucks knowing it’s helping out and getting a cool momento in return. Keep crushing it! - from across the pond in Japan 🇯🇵 -Paul.
tHanks for a fun video and talk.
I won't drag out the comment as I see you have taxes to fill out.
Happy Easter Everyone!
A carpenter in biblical times was someone who could make something with stone metal and wood. I enjoy welding bicycle trailers, cargo bikes and working with pallet wood when ever the need or desire arises.
Dainsy videos make me feel good...on the inside. Seriously though, a bit of inspiration was sorely needed this morning and I just got that - thanks.
Awesome and what I like to hear. cheers
Do like the look of the mallets mate
cheers Rob
Are you from Townsville, mate? So am I. Love your videos. 😊😊😊😊
I am Cathy... beautiful weather has just arrived for us
The Struggle is real, your Mallets look great! Well done and thanks for the video
thank you, and you're welcome
Love seeing you keep up the great spirit and happy mood, even though life throws you aome curve balls.
Keep at up the great spirit.
thanks mate, only way to go. Can't complain when people buy things I make
Absolutely great video Dainer always love watching your videos so inspiring thanks for always sharing. Keep up the amazing work
Thank you and I will do
Ah man, glad it hasn't just been me. Was hoping I would sell more of my stuff in the last few weeks so I'd have some spending money for a big blacksmithing conference so I can buy some tools. Instead I haven't sold a thing, and I'm rolling up coins instead.
Of course, I have enough money to pay all my bills so I can't complain too much. Hopeful that one day my side hustle will be more consistent though..
Love your mallets mate, a pleasure to use and display , hoping your side hustle turns into your main hustle 😃
me too mate, step one pay off mortgage. step 2 hope I am not 65 lol
Those are awesome mallots... much like your videos. Keep up the good work.

thanks very much mate
You can tell it’s a Dainsy video when there is very little woodworking yet I come out if it desperate to get out into the shop and make something.
Awesome video again Mark. 👍
thanks mate, I do promise the next one will have way more woodworking
@@dainermade it’s by no way a criticism. It just shows how engaging your video was. Have a great Easter weekend.
@@fathogwoodworkingcheers mate! Still, I’m itching for more woodworking. Haha
Good stuff and inspirational. Its down to you and me seeing some of earlier vids is why im now balls deep into the world of pissing about with pallets and knocking out some interesting stuff in my shed. Have got a couple of cutting boards and a hall table to do do for some cashiolla. So i can buy a brad nailer now.😊
that's the go mate! and then onto the next upgrade
As someone who does some woodworking and also loves your work, I would be just as happy with just a brand of your logo on your work instead of the coin! You could buy a custom brass brand once and then reuse it. Most of the joy I would feel from using your work would be in just knowing your hands made it, not in seeing the coin.
thanks mate, I think I'll start branding some products and save the coins for the fancy mallets only. But you are right
Love your work :)
Love your videos. Love your work. Thank you 🙏
you are just awsome dainer !! love your videos. ! keep up the good work !
Thank you so much! appreciate you watching
Nice one mate. I need to find a maker tool that I can make and monetise now!
What's something that every shop needs... let me know haha... but also customise it
Great vid mate!
thank you!!!
"out of control hobby" I know how that feels
and you've gone full business human because of it.. I am so jealous lol
Truely enjoyed this video, educational and entertaining
cheers mate, thank you
This made me feel the goodest, warmest, inside fuzzy stuff, from start to finish. 🧡 I'm here to see you kick goals brother dude. I want to see you win more than I want to win 🫶🏼 Also, definitely here for the David "Ned" Kelly love 🧡 PS - stop blowing part of your budget on dowel !!! Put a hole in a plate of steel (or get your paws on a bracket that already has holes for bolts in it) then square a piece of timber the same size as the hole diameter, whittle a bit of point in it like a spear & then send her through the hole with some pats on the bum from the mallet!
hey hey... appreciate you mate, especially when you're in my videos lol. I am sure making dowel should be easy. Best I watch a little how to hey
@dainermade search: diy dowel plate. You can't lose. It's idiot proof, trust me, I've started zero fires doing it. 😏🫶🏼
Good on ya Dainsey. I had never considered turning my woodwork into a side hustle until I happened upon your channel. At this stage I still haven't done anything about it. Self doubt is my biggest stumbling block. That said I have done a few commissions. Keep up the good work. All the best.
I just had a look at your channel real quick and your quality of work is far superior to mine, and I managed to make a few grand last year starting from 0 experience woodworking, I think if you were to have a go at selling some of your projects youd be able to make it into a side hustle no worries! Don't doubt yourself until you've tried and tried again!
hey Brian! just put it out there mate. Plenty of people will love your stuff, it is handmade and that is already a big seller

never say never mate, just keep at it. There is 8 billion sets of eyeballs and an audience can be built by anyone. cheers
You should use the laser engraving machine to make your own coins. Buy the blanks online and laser engrave them that way everything you do is dainer made.

@@dainermade it’s just around the corner mate…it’ll happen have patience.
I went to buy one of your Mallets but no shipping to the USA 😞. Love your videos though!
Yep, the struggle is real. I built planter boxes this year and I usually don't have any problems selling them even in a saturated market. But, I got started late because I was in Brazil for 2 weeks so they are sitting. Was feeling a little down about it and out of the blue got a commission for an outdoor coffee table last night. Just...keep...going...
Good news mate, You can not sell the one you don't make
...and I know the Forstner bit in the drill press feeling from making bottle openers this week for the family holibib
I hear you
Hope you tested the moisture content of the logs first don’t want mold growth

Dammit dainsey you did it again. Spoke to me. 😮😂 Great video again as always m8 though must say i am fully at tbe same point as you are with the whole side hustle thing although mine is more like 1 step forward a million steps back. Oh and the order book is empty which sucks and no one seems be wanting to change that. 😢 Hope your ok and hopefully Freddie is ok. 👍🏴
Plenty to be learnt in the million steps back. See, wood turning video was not needed...just a kick up the freckle, keep at it mate. You gave nice work, just gotta find the right people
@@dainermade appreciate it M8👍🏴
I’m going the other way, from full business human to side business human due to a few goings on, and I wish I’d done it the other way. Definitely jumped in without knowing enough.
Well hopefully you can swing it back the other in good time and when you're ready to go.
I've been in the red on mine for almost 3 years, was so close to clearing and then dipped into the credit card to restock on some stock to import, they still havn't sold so until they do I'm still in the hurt locker. Ill clear it soon enough, just have to find the right customer which is hard in todays market.
Just like the self serve at woolies, the Bunnings self serve can offer some fantastic discounts too ;)
Mate, hopefully you have a win real soon. Hope those discounts don't get you I strife mate lol
Unfortunately in the uk we aren't allowed side hustles anymore coz now we get taxed to the hilt for it
What the? You're not allowed a side hustle?
@dainermade well yes we are but if you make over a certain amount of money you have to declare it and get taxed on it.
Chamfering + Forstnering = Workshop Joy²
trust the math... and the science
I know the struggle, hope this helps in a small way.
