All of our English translations are great. We are truly blessed, but what keeps the CSB in my daily reading is that they bold the OT references in the NT. Brings everything to life for me. Thanks, Tim!
I really like that they bolded the OT quotes!!! The burgundy is very nice, but I prefer the bluish/silver accents vs gold. But I’d gladly accept either. 😊
Hey Tim, I know you talk about finding a bible that is right for you, and I finally did with the Slate version! I told my wife that I had never been so happy with a bible as I was when I first got it yesterday and was able to do my reading plan. So thank you, Tim, for all the work you do and for helping me find the bible that was right for me.
That slate grey is a very nice color especially with the blue and silver. Also love the bolded OT quotes. I've never had a CSB, but my wife loves it. Nice review, Tim!
I love how you have started reading from the text in your reviews. Praise the Lord!! And I ordered the burgundy. Also, the wide margin version has a 10.5 font while the personal size is a 10 point font.
I've had my Slate edition pre-ordered since September when I saw it on Lifeway's website. Excited to have it in my hands soon. Fun fact. Not only can you get the big boy wide margin, which I also have but you can get this same layout and pagination in the Single Column compact editions in blue or brown leathertouch. Would love to see that in a Handcrafted Edition someday like they are doing with the coming soon Personal Size (aka CSB Pitt Minion lookalike). I also have had that on pre-order in Slate since September. So, all that to say you can get this layout, format in 3 Sizes, Big, Mediumish, and mini me.
My main bible is the single column personal size in the leathertouch. I love it, but I admit the gutter is annoying. I will most certainly be buying an HCC version now, especially that slate. Gorgeous. Thank you for your reviews and God bless.
I am surprised to be more of a fan of the burgundy! For some reason, it just appears more premium with the gold embossed spine hub on that burgundy and the ribbons are sharp! That’s what I would choose.
I have the black LeatherTouch version and I loved it so much I bought my son this version (in slate) to have as an heirloom-quality "lifetime" Bible. When it arrived, I liked it so much that I'm now saving up to buy myself one in burgundy. The nice one will be my "at home" bible and the leathertouch one will be great as a travel or EDC Bible.
My church is NKJV, but I am becoming more and more fond of the CSB. I have the CSM Hand Crafted CSB Study Bible but it is a boat anchor of a book, definitely desk top. Just ordered this one in slate gray for my hand held reading. Great review, Tim
I had been looking for a CSB bible and after one of your recent reviews I ordered the grey one. Then you posted a coupon, so I called Lifeway and cancelled the first and reordered with the coupon and saved another $20! Thanks Tim. Looking forward to this more indepth review.
Been debating getting one of these for a long time. I like to pair my CSB with my KJV New Scofield Reference Bible. Great combo, one for exact wording and study, and the other for readability and getting the message across.
Love your consistently thorough, detailed reviews, Tim. This one, in burgundy, is perfect for my wife. All the bells and whistles, as they say. My goal is outfitting my family (my wife, 2 sons and their wives) each with a premium Bible in their primary version (2-NKJV, 1-ESV, 2-CSB, 1-KJV). It's gonna be a budget challenge for this old retiree, but fun. To that end, I'm very thankful that I have you and the other Pastor Tim (Nickels) to help me get the best fit. God bless you, Sir.
Just got around to watching this video. I love the slate gray one and just ordered it today from Amazon. Will be here day after tomorrow, I can’t wait. Still searching for a black Schuyler PSQ. Someday I hope I will find it! Really enjoy all your videos which is why I became a member and chose to support you! Keep them coming!😊
I pre-ordered Holman’s NASB Single-Column Personal Size Bible in Tan Genuine Leather. Cant wait to receive it in August. Hope you can do a review of that soon!
I absolutely love this text block! I have the wide-margin version in black leather touch and its my favorite for daily reading. I am curious if they have fixed two of the printing errors I've found: Numbers 16:2 is printed "two hundred fifty..." while in other CSB text blocks it is correctly "two hundred and fifty" Judges 20:15 the verse number 15 is bolded black not red as it should be. I am only in 1 Samuel as of now so I'm not sure if similar issues occur again but it would be cool to know if they had been fixed. This updated personal size would be so much more portable! Although it doesn't look like it would lay as flat and I'm spoilt with no text in the gutter due to the margin. Thank you for everything you do Tim and greetings from South Africa! Edit: Just saw the lined note paper! That is amazing. Could you test the paper with Pigma Micron pens? I find that my copy of the non-handcrafted version can still bleed a bit much, curious if this is more premium paper
Thanks for the review Tim. Here in the next couple weeks you may also review the CSB Personal Size (not single-column) from the Handcrafted collection that's slated to release on May 1st. If you do, I assume you'd compare it with this bible here, but would you also consider comparing it with the Schuyler PSQ? I'm currently really torn between those two!
i also noticed that in the Calfskin edition, the E in Ezra is bigger than the rest of the word whereas in the Genuine Leather edition, each letter in the word Ezra is the same size
Definitely a beautiful Bible. I do understand the margin change, though for me that bumps the old edition up a bit in the rankings. The margin in the older edition was enough to get some small notes, but in the newer edition I don't think that's the case.
Love the slate grey one, just my style with the blue under silver gilding and the silver stamping. The layout and typesetting look really readable. Thanks Tim!
I’ve become a single column user. I really like this one for a comfortable read. I like the gray but ❤ the burgundy! I think I need to add this one to my Bible library.
thanks, i recently just got the Schuyler Quentel in NIV in that Tuscany Italian Aniline Calfskin and, it's like you said, a very thick piece of leather. Also, i can see a lot of skin pores on mine. it's pretty cool. it's a very, very smooth but very thick leather. And, the words of Christ are red letter which is pretty cool, even though i know that's just a publisher's choice. i'm similar to you in that, i'll take a bible with or without red letter text in the Gospels. for me, if i pick out a bible and it automatically comes with Red Letter text, then great. if it doesn't, that's fine too.
Bought the two column version of this and the 7.5 font size was too small for me, I could read it but it was not comfortable. Unfortunately had to return it. Single column might be the way to go.
Interesting. My only exposure to CSB is its usage in the Lifeway Sunday School materials and with that limited use I still prefer my LSB/NASB95/ESV trio. But we just got a new pastor and I've noticed he uses CSB so I might have to add one to my collection.
I only found center column in giant print. To big. I grew up with this format with KJV. I wish this was available in a less price. Old lady on ssi can’t afford one. Thank you for sharing.
Those red accents are so lovely. I think there are some non-premium Holman Bibles that offer that, right? Like a verse-by-verse maybe? That is something I would be interested in. I'm learning more and more that I really appreciate a little colour accent on the pages. I don't have a CSB Single Column Personal size yet but it's been on my radar for nearly a year. Thanks for the review!
I bought one and it is supposed to ship on March 15 and I can’t wait! How does this particular Bible compare with Schuyler Bibles in reference to craftsmanship? Let’s assume that the Schuyler is a 10 out of 10, what does this Bible rate in quality and craftsmanship and layout?
Isn’t this pretty close to a full size quentel? This seems way bigger than what I’m looking for. I wish they would do the compact single column in the handcrafted edition. That would be exactly what I’m looking for.
Great review Tim. You sold me on the slate personal size. Looks lovely. It'll be the first csb that I own. I came across a deal for 37% off online so how could I resist? so I've pre-ordered 😁
I've been looking forward to this review. Do you know if any other publisher is planning on printing the CSB in this format (single column, paragraphs)?
Nice work as always bro. Thank you for not using the burgundy as much since I already preordered the slate and I’m easily swayed into getting both 🤭 Blessings ✝️
I comparing this Bible with the The CSB Reader's Bible, Five-Volume Collection just for reading. I have the verse by verse but want a reader. Hard to make up my mind on which.
I had the slate grey and it had a strong chemical like smell when it came. Not sure if it was from the color process of the leather. It has faded over time.
Burgundy is my favourite, but I'll probably get the verse by verse for study. I feel like the text has slightly too many words per sentence on this one.
It’s the main thing that keeps me away from single columns. Almost none of them have cross references. Can’t for the life of me understand why. Especially when a bible like the Cambridge Clarion exists - single column and side references. So It’s very possible. But most publishers don’t do it. It’s maddening.
The previous versions of the Single Column Personal size was not quite the same pagination. They got off near the end of the OT and I *think* stayed a page or two off the rest of the way. Do these new versions stay with the same pagination all the way through?
Just got mine today in slate. Love everything about the text block. But the smell! It has a really bad chemical smell. I've had it out of the box all day trying to air it out but i think it will take a while to disappear. Hope so. I've got the same issue as another commentator too in that when you open the cover the leather seems to wrinkle. I wish it would have been a goatskin
Great video! Any plans to upgrade your camera(s) to 4k? The 1080p videos are okay, though they look a bit blurry on my 4k screen, but it would be nice to start appreciating these bibles in full 4k glory!
I realize i could pose this question to Hohman, but i just received my order of the premium marbled burgandy calf skin in the mail today. First thing out of the box is the smell (like an old moldy box of books stored for a few decades! I'm not sure why, but could anyone comment on if it's worth trying to let it air out or return? Nothing visible appears wrong, but the smell is quite strong even lingering in my small home office(in the air). Any advice or wisdom shared is appreciated!
Is the font in the new HHC PSSC a bit thicker than the saddle leather version or is that just my imagination? But either way, neither are as a thick of a font as the large/wide-margin edition, correct?
All of our English translations are great. We are truly blessed, but what keeps the CSB in my daily reading is that they bold the OT references in the NT. Brings everything to life for me. Thanks, Tim!
This is the one thing I wish the ESV did better.
That's one thing I love about the NASB as well, they use small caps for OT in the NT
Incidentally, the NET Bible also uses bold letters for OT references. I like the distinction.
Perhaps too bold? I prefer italics or a different font to indicate OT references. I would love a blue letter text edition for the CSB!
I like that too. Plus I like that they print their maps on non-glossy Bible paper.
I really like that they bolded the OT quotes!!!
The burgundy is very nice, but I prefer the bluish/silver accents vs gold. But I’d gladly accept either. 😊
This is the Bible I'm most excited about this year!
That slate grey is stunning
Agree... so nice.
Ordered my wife a burgundy, so excited for her to receive it! Thank you Tim!
They’re both stunning. I have never read the CSB though. Premium bibles are out of my price range but love seeing them on your channel and dreaming!
The CSB is a wonderful translation. I use the ESV, CSB, and NASB in my studies and personal time.
Lots of giveaways this year... maybe we can get you one!!
Lee, I’m in the same boat. I keep watching these videos for the info & then try not to get Bible-envy!
That slate grey is a very nice color especially with the blue and silver. Also love the bolded OT quotes. I've never had a CSB, but my wife loves it. Nice review, Tim!
Thanks for watching!
Keep them coming, love from Malawi 🇲🇼
I love the burgundy, it's beautiful!
It really is!
I'm a slate grey guy myself. Absolutely beautiful. Stunning. I also love the CSB.
You and me both!
Thanks for this review. I just ordered the burgundy! It actually drops on my 10th wedding anniversary.
Love it! I got this one in the Burgundy and it has quickly become my daily reader!
I love how you have started reading from the text in your reviews. Praise the Lord!! And I ordered the burgundy. Also, the wide margin version has a 10.5 font while the personal size is a 10 point font.
Love the slate! Hopefully the VBV wide margin will be available in that color, too.

I LOVE that Slate gray! I did see on their website that they are also coming out with a green...
My main bible is the single column personal size in the leathertouch. I love it, but I admit the gutter is annoying. I will most certainly be buying an HCC version now, especially that slate. Gorgeous. Thank you for your reviews and God bless.
Good call!
I have the navy leather soft and at first the gutter was annoying, but as I read it, it keeps opening up. Now it doesn't bother me at all.
I am surprised to be more of a fan of the burgundy! For some reason, it just appears more premium with the gold embossed spine hub on that burgundy and the ribbons are sharp! That’s what I would choose.
They look great. I pre-ordered the slate.

I really like the red for chapter and verse numbers. 😊

I absolutely love this text block! I have the wide-margin version in black leather touch and its my favorite for daily reading. I am curious if they have fixed two of the printing errors I've found:

I had never seen a Bible bolding the OT quotes. An interesting characteristic. Thanks for the review!
Yep... that's a feature in all CSB Bibles!
Love the slate because of the blue/silver.
Just picked up the Slate and I absolutely love it so far!!!
This is it. This is the Bible right for me. The Slate is such a good color-way, too!
Awesome!
Thanks for the review Tim. Here in the next couple weeks you may also review the CSB Personal Size (not single-column) from the Handcrafted collection that's slated to release on May 1st. Now they need to come out with the nasb 2020 exactly the same everything! Love these Bibles. I'd probably take the burgundy but a hard choice!
Love the slate grey one, just my style with the blue under silver gilding and the silver stamping. The layout and typesetting look really readable. Thanks Tim!
It’s great!
I think they are both beautiful Bibles...but if I had to choose I would go with the burgundy.
Big fan of the slate! might have to add a csb to the collection.
I have come to really enjoy reading the single columns & have yet to read the csb translation. Thank you Tim.
My pleasure!
I’ve become a single column user. I really like this one for a comfortable read. I like the gray but ❤ the burgundy! I think I need to add this one to my Bible library.
Thanks for sharing!!
It’d be nice to see a Holman KJV in this binding.
I have a rebound “big boy”😂. The one I take to church is a CSB thinline.
Well can’t wait to see it. 1 more min! 😊
Thanks Tim you helped to sell me on this one 👍
Love the slate and the ribbon colors with it.
me too!
I love burgundy but I would prefer the slate.
Burgundy all the way!!
It looks good, doesn't it?!
Love these. Getting my wife the grey.
Do you have a guess of the GSM of the paper? Thanks!
36 GSM... same paper used in other HHC editions.
They are beautiful, but I think you sold me on the wide margin version at the end, lol. Love the CSB translation.
Good choice!
Another Great Bible Video, Tim! Burgundy better, both good! ❤ 🐂 🌲 🌲
Thanks 👍
I wish that they would release a handcrafted version of the 13-point font Bible that they have. I would be on that like a Baptist on a barbecue man!
Thank you for this presentation Tim!
I only wish you would compare it to the Nelson's Premier Collection of the NKJV Single-Column Reference Bible...
I would love their VBV wide margin turned into a HHC in the Slate! Thank you for a silver version!!

Hey Tim, quick question regarding the text itself, I do not think you mentioned where this edition was printed. Is it also 2K Denmark Bible Sarif?
It’s Bible Serif, yes. Printed in China.
Ive seen a handfull of reviews on this bible. Not one has fully reviewed the burgundy one. 😢
I showed the burgundy one in this video... the inside is identical to the slate one.
Could you do a review of the Water Buffalo from Church Bible Publisher really interested on what you think
Do you think this calfskin version is worth 2x the price of the saddle leather version?
Is it the same pagination as the single-column compact also? I love that there’s multiple sizes of the same lauoit
I've never seen that one in person... but it might be!
What is the liner made from in the slate grey?
Is the font in the new HHC PSSC a bit thicker than the saddle leather version or is that just my imagination? But either way, neither are as a thick of a font as the large/wide-margin edition, correct?
It looks slightly thicker to me.
