  • This week, Marques and Andrew cover all the big stories of the tech world: the phenomenon of Apple never showing 69 degrees, United Airlines buying 100 electric planes, and the Nothing x StockX collab. Then, Andrew dives deep into the current "space tourism" race between Virgin Galactic and Blue Origin, before wrapping everything up with a new segment that is sure to become the most popular part of Waveform ever: Hot Takes.

Or rather a very painful reminder that he hasn't spent time outside of the US.
How more granular does my temperature needs to be. I don't even care if it's 22 or 23 degrees outside. In the car I do have it at 21.5 sometimes instead of 21 or 22. But who am I kidding at that point?
My AC is in full degrees. I don't care.

About the MagSafe battery pack, you can’t use mAh to compare battery sizes cause the voltage is more than double than that of the iPhone. You need to use Wh to get the correct measurement

That's not a hot take, that's just you being factually wrong. Most people can notice a drop of 1 degree Celsius. Hell, I can tell 20, 21, 22 and 23 degrees perfectly just because it's my zone of comfort. I can't tell if it's 8 or 12 degrees exactly outside, but I can tell if it goes from 12 to 11 no problem.

Hey Marques, this is a great channel and glad you created another channel for this purpose. So proud of the way you come and the work youve put into growing, it's truly inspiring. YOU ARE THE REASON I GOT A JOB AT TESLA (2018) in fact- so thank you for that. Mkbhd, I only have one comment to say though. As a brotha(black man in MN but born in Kenya) , who has a similar background to you in the sense of growing up in a very white dominated industry and world, I gotta say it did disappoint me to see the lack of diversity on your team. Like I started of my comment, I have been inspired by you and even made life decisions from you being a role model of mine, so I spent the entire video trying to come up with justifications and ultimately I decided that leaving a comment on it might be enough. I still support you in whatever way I can but thought maybe you'd see the perspective I'd have for you. No malice towards your team, I'm sure they are all phenomenal but it goes without saying, maybe as you expand you can keep that thought in the back of your head. :) Keep up the great work.

Hot Takes - Folding: It could be a fad, this time around (kinda similar to netbooks). Smartphones had to wait 20 years for miniaturization to catch up. It'll be another 20 before that same ratio of miniaturization will help create the next product line that will replace smartphones (similar to how smartphones replaced flip phones). Probably a wallet would be the next convenient form factor. A folding phone is not convenient, glasses is not convenient, a watch is not sufficient.

In response to Adam's hot take and the follow up question of what might be the new form factor for phones that actually catches on. If anything, i think it would be rollables as opposed to foldables. Much like the phone/tablets rollables in Westworld. That i think has the most potential. Does all the same stuff as far as "it's a phone, now it's a tablet" but i think it has better chance of getting better where there's no creases. A roll as opposed to a fold is inherently less pressure on the plastic screen, and it'd be easier to hold the screen taught when it's fully extended, and there's potential to use it at varying levels of un-rolled. Whereas folding phones have a hard time getting the crease out, can only fold and unfold to two screen sizes, and what you can do with the phone while it's half open is fairly limited. That or phone form factor will stay metal/glass slabs until we jump right to AR wearables like Apple/Google Glass when those are finally "ready" that will either be tied to a phone still or eventually be standalone devices.

For the Hot takes: Kelvin is also as granular as Fahrenheit but we don't use it casually. Celsius is better in my opinion and the difference between 22 and 23 Celsius is definitely noticeable but if you want to fine tune it on the thermostat at home, you should easily have access to decimals. So in my opinion, Fahrenheit is in no way better than Celsius.

To me F° is like Kelvin, 298.5 K° is 77F° which is around 22C° which is an ideal temperature to play golf. All this to say that I'm not sure a lot of people use decimals in Celsius. I don't know the difference between 21 and 22C. Also, I'm not sure you got Bezos' Blue Origin "space" skipping thing down. The rocket takes them up, then the capsule goes into space for several minutes. Meanwhile the rocket goes back down to earth à la Space X reusable ones and the capsule comes down separately, it deploys the 3 chutes and doesn't use rockets to slow it down it just thuds down to earth, however this is made a little more comfortable for the customers because their seats have this scissor shock absorbing thingy that is built in beneath them and it deadens the thud.

I think that Virgin Galactic is the affordable option. Because it's the simplest one, you fly up there with an airplane, and then the most expensive thing really is the rocket fuel. But as we've seen in the video, it's not much. So I really agree that the 250k is novelty prizing right now. They can do it for a lot less in the future.

Hot take, Marques needs to spend some time abroad.
It will be good for a lot of his takes on things.
Spend a half year in Europe

I equally grew up with both metric and imperial.
I like foot/inches better cause it's easy to get an idea of 1,2,3 feet.
plus, you can easily divide 12 in more ways than 10. (2,3,4,6) where 10 is (2,5) as whole numbers.
I think this is why people hate math cause the base-10 system makes it super hard for people to get while base-12 can be done in many form and can be done with 4-finger on 1-hand. three joints per finger. which takes way less effort than erecting all ten-fingers to count to 10.
If you look at clocks you get the same idea.

As an American (who uses metric) everything you said made no sense. In base-10 you just shift over the decimal point but you ended up explaining in several sentences why dividing by 12 is somehow better by showing examples of why its inconvenient.

While I agree that the Fahrenheit scale has more granularity, but I don't see such necessity of that for weather values. As you said at 06:39, you don't really feel the difference in 1 degree Fahrenheit. Like, it's 68F (20°С) or 69F (20.56°С) outside. Maybe all this is just inner nerd talking in you, with love for precision and numbers.
However, I have to admit that I love my home thermostat's precise temperature readings up to 0.1°С (0.18F).
I know it doesn't make any sense, but I love numbers.
Also I have a pyrometer and know what temperature I prefer for cold/hot drinks 👀 That why I argue that general public don't need the precision of Fahrenheit scale

Celsius is not metric kelvin is so US can change to metric and keep fahrenheit for weather

My take on weather, we should change how we talk about it entirely and create a weather comfortability index that takes temperature, humidity, cloud cover, etc into account. Temp alone just isn’t useful
